முடிவுகள் ஏற்படுத்தும் தெளிவு!

ஐந்து மாநில சட்டப்பேரவைத் தேர்தல் முடிவுகளில் ராஜஸ்தான், மத்தியப் பிரதேசம், சத்தீஸ்கர் ஆகிய மூன்று மாநிலங்களில் காங்கிரஸ் ஆட்சியைப் பிடித்திருப்பது மிகப்பெரிய அரசியல் திருப்பம் என்பதில் ஐயப்பாடில்லை. நடந்து முடிந்த சட்டப்பேரவைத் தேர்தல் முடிவுகள் காங்கிரஸின் முக்கியத்துவத்தை அதிகரித்திருக்கின்றன. 

பஞ்சாப், மிஸோரம் இரண்டு மாநிலங்களில் தனியாகவும் கர்நாடகத்தில் கூட்டணியாகவும் ஆட்சியில் இருந்த காங்கிரஸ் கட்சி மிஸோரத்தில் ஆட்சியை இழந்தாலும்கூட, ராஜஸ்தான், மத்தியப் பிரதேசம், சத்தீஸ்கர் ஆகிய மூன்று பெரிய மாநிலங்களில் பெற்றிருக்கும் வெற்றி, அந்தக் கட்சிக்கு மிகப்பெரிய பலம் சேர்த்திருக்கிறது. இந்த வெற்றி 2019 மக்களவைத் தேர்தலை எதிர்கொள்ள காங்கிரஸுக்கு உற்சாகத்தை மட்டுமல்ல, தேவையான பண பலத்தையும் ஏற்படுத்திக் கொடுக்கும்.
கடந்த மக்களவைத் தேர்தலும் அதற்குப் பின்னால் நடந்த சட்டப்பேரவைத் தேர்தல்களும் ராகுல் காந்தியின் தலைமைப் பண்பை கேள்விக்குறியாக்கி இருந்தன. இப்போது, இந்தியாவின் முக்கியமான மூன்று மாநிலங்களில் நடந்த சட்டப்பேரவைத் தேர்தல்களில் காங்கிரஸுக்கு கிடைத்திருக்கும் வெற்றி, ராகுல் காந்தியைப் பிரதமர் வேட்பாளராக முன்னிறுத்தி 2019 மக்களவைத் தேர்தலைத் துணிவுடன் எதிர்கொள்ள அடித்தளமிட்டுக் கொடுத்திருக்கிறது. 

பஞ்சாப், உத்தரகண்ட், ராஜஸ்தான், மத்தியப் பிரதேசம், ஜார்க்கண்ட், கோவா, குஜராத் ஆகிய ஏழு மாநிலங்களில் மட்டும்தான் காங்கிரஸ் பாஜகவுடன் நேரடியாக மோதுகிறது. கடந்த தேர்தலைப்போல, காங்கிரஸ் உடனான நேரடி மோதலை எதிர்கொள்வது பாஜகவுக்கு சுலபமாக இருக்கப் போவதில்லை என்பதை இந்தத் தேர்தல் முடிவுகள் தெரிவிக்கின்றன.
சத்தீஸ்கரில் காங்கிரஸ் மூன்றில் இரண்டுக்கும் மேற்பட்ட இடங்களில் வெற்றி பெற்றிருப்பது, காங்கிரஸ் தலைமைக்கே வியப்பாக இருந்திருக்கக் கூடும். ராஜஸ்தானில் படுதோல்வி அடையும் என்று கருதப்பட்ட பாஜக, மிகக் குறைந்த வாக்கு வித்தியாசத்தில்தான் பல இடங்களில் தோல்வி அடைந்திருக்கிறது. மத்தியப் பிரதேசத்திலும் இழுபறியுடன்தான் காங்கிரஸால் ஆட்சியமைக்க முடியும் என்கிற நிலைமை.
குஜராத் சட்டப்பேரவைத் தேர்தலின்போது, காங்கிரஸ் கட்சி தனது அணுகுமுறையை மாற்றியது. அதுவரை மதச்சார்பின்மை பேசிக் கொண்டிருந்த காங்கிரஸ் கட்சி மென்மையான இந்துத்வா என்கிற புதிய அணுகுமுறையைக் கையாள முற்பட்டது. 

மத்தியப் பிரதேசத்திலும் ராஜஸ்தானிலும் ஒவ்வொரு கிராமப் பஞ்சாயத்திலும் பசுவைப் பாதுகாப்பதற்காக கோசாலை அமைக்கப்படும் என்று காங்கிரஸ் தனது தேர்தல் வாக்குறுதியில் குறிப்பிட்டிருந்தது.
பாஜகவை ஆதரிக்கும் பிராமணர்களின் வாக்குகளைப் பெறுவதற்காக ராகுல் காந்தி பூணூல் அணிந்து கொண்டு, நேரு குடும்பத்தினர் காஷ்மீர பிராமணர்கள் என்பதை அவர்களுக்கு நினைவுபடுத்த முற்பட்டார். தன்னை ஒரு சிவ பக்தனாக அடையாளம் காட்டிக் கொண்டும், கைலாஸ் மானசரோவர் யாத்திரையை மேற்கொண்டும் ராகுல் காந்தி மென்மையான இந்துத்வாவைக் கடைப்பிடித்ததையும் இங்கே குறிப்பிட வேண்டும்.
தேர்தல் முடிவுகள் சாதகமாக அமைந்திருப்பதால் இந்த அணுகுமுறையை 2019 மக்களவைத் தேர்தலில் காங்கிரஸ் மேலும் தீவிரமாக கடைப்பிடிக்க முற்பட்டால் ஆச்சரியப்படுவதற்கில்லை. அந்த அணுகுமுறை மக்களவைத் தேர்தலிலும் கைகொடுக்கும் என்று சொல்லிவிட முடியாது. 

பாஜகவின் இந்துத்வா கோஷமும், அயோத்தி ராமர் கோயில் பிரச்னையும், நடந்து முடிந்த சட்டப்பேரவைத் தேர்தல்களில் அந்தக் கட்சிக்குக் கைகொடுக்கவில்லை. வாக்குப் பதிவுக்கு சில நாள்களுக்கு முன்பு அயோத்தியில் மீண்டும் ராமர் கோயில் பிரச்னை உயிர்ப்பிக்கப்பட்டதும், ஆர்எஸ்எஸ், விஸ்வ இந்து பரிஷத் போன்ற அமைப்புகள் இது குறித்து மத்திய அரசுக்கு அழுத்தம் கொடுத்ததும் பாஜகவுக்கு எதிராகத் திரும்பியதோ என்று கூடக் கருதத் தோன்றுகிறது. 

கிராமப்புறங்களில் நரேந்திர மோடி அரசின் அதிக மதிப்புச் செலாவணி செல்லாததாக்கப்பட்ட முடிவும், நகர்ப்புறங்களில் ஜிஎஸ்டி வரி விதிப்பும் பாஜகவுக்கு எதிரான மனோநிலையை மக்கள் மத்தியில் உருவாகியிருப்பது தெளிவாகவே தெரிகிறது. வளர்ச்சி என்கிற கோஷத்துக்கு அயோத்தி மாற்றாக அமையாது என்பதைத் தேர்தல் முடிவுகள் தெளிவாக்கி இருக்கின்றன.

மூன்று மாநில சட்டப்பேரவைத் தேர்தல் முடிவுகளின் அடிப்படையில் மக்களவைத் தேர்தல் முடிவுகள் அமைய வேண்டிய அவசியம் இல்லை. சட்டப்பேரவைத் தேர்தல்களில் வெற்றி பெற்ற கட்சி, தொடர்ந்து வந்த மக்களவைத் தேர்தலில் தோல்வி அடைந்த வரலாறு நிறையவே உண்டு. 1998-99 இல் ஒன்றுபட்ட மத்தியப்பிரதேசம், ராஜஸ்தானில் தோல்வி அடைந்த பாஜக, மக்களவைத் தேர்தலில் வெற்றி பெற்றது. 2003-இல் இந்த மாநிலங்களில் வெற்றி பெற்ற பாஜக 2004 மக்களவைத் தேர்தலில் தோல்வியைத் தழுவியது. 2008 சட்டப்பேரவைத் தேர்தலில் பல மாநிலங்களில் தோல்வியடைந்த காங்கிரஸ் கட்சி அடுத்து வந்த 2009 மக்களவைத் தேர்தலில் முன்பைவிட அதிக இடங்களில் வெற்றி பெற்று மத்தியில் ஆட்சியைத் தக்க வைத்துக்கொண்டது.

அதனால் சட்டப்பேரவைத் தேர்தல் வெற்றி காங்கிரஸுக்கு 2019-இல் வெற்றியை அளிக்கும் என்பதோ, இப்போதைய தேர்தல் தோல்வியின் தொடர்ச்சியாக அடுத்து வரும் மக்களவைத் தேர்தலில் பாஜக ஆட்சியை இழக்க நேரிடும் என்றோ அறுதியிட்டுக் கூறிவிட முடியாது.

அன்புதான் மனிதனை வாழ்வதற்குத் தூண்டுகிறது. அன்புதான் வாழ்வை அர்த்தமுள்ளதாக்குகிறது. உறவு என்பது சமூக கட்டமைப்பின் அடித்தளமாக இருந்து சமூக வாழ்வை உயர்த்துகிறது. மனிதன் சமூக விலங்காக கருதப்பட்ட காலம் முதல் உறவுப் பிணைப்பு அவனை வாழ்வதற்கும் மேம்பட்ட வாழ்க்கைச்சூழலை உருவாக்கிக் கொள்வதற்கும் உந்து சக்தியாக இருந்து வழிநடத்துகிறது.இத்தகைய அன்பும், உறவும் காலப்போக்கில் எத்தகைய பரிமாணங்களை அடைந்துள்ளன? வியாபாரமயமாகி விட்ட இந்த நூற்றாண்டில் உறவின் நிலை என்ன?

காலந்தோறும் கூடி வாழ்ந்த குடும்பம் என்ற அமைப்பு மனிதனை உயர்த்தி இருக்கிறது. ஒருங்கிணைந்த உழைப்பால் பெரும் பலன் தந்திருக்கிறது. விவசாயப் பெருங்குடி மக்களாய் வாழ்ந்த காலத்தில் கூடிவாழ்ந்த குடும்பத்தில் அனைவரும் ஒட்டுமொத்தமாகத் தங்கள் உழைப்பை நிலத்தில் சிந்தி வேளாண்மை பெருகி, சீரும்சிறப்புமாய் வாழ்ந்ததை வரலாறு சொல்கிறது. இப்படி வாழ்ந்த சமூகத்தில் பெரியோர் மதிக்கப்பட்டனர். அவர்களின் அனுபவமும் அறிவும் இளையோருக்கு வழிகாட்டக் கிடைத்த பெரும் வரமாக கருதப்பட்டது. 

உழைப்பைத் தந்த குடும்பத்தில் முதியவர்கள் உடல் தளர்ந்து, தங்களால் உழைப்பை நிலத்தில் செலுத்த இயலாத காலத்தில் குடும்பத்திற்குப் பாதுகாவலாக இருந்து குழந்தைகள் பராமரிப்பு மற்றும் அவர்களை நல்வழிப்படுத்தும் ஒழுங்காற்றுப் பணியில் தங்களை ஈடுபடுத்திக் கொண்டனர். இதனால் அடுத்த தலைமுறையும் சீரிய ஒழுக்கத்தோடும் நெறிமுறைகளோடும் வாழத் தலைப்பட்டது. ஆனால், தற்போது அறிவியல் வளர்ந்து கொண்டிருக்கும் காலகட்டத்தில் நிலை என்னவாக இருக்கிறது?
நமக்கு அன்றாடம் ராமாயணத்தையும் பாரதத்தையும் கதையாகச் சொல்லி நம்முடைய பண்பாட்டு விழுமியங்களை இயல்பாக நமக்குள் பதிவுசெய்தவர்களாக நம்முடைய முன்னோர்கள் இருந்தார்கள். அவர்கள் சொல்லித் தந்த கதைகள் வெறும் பொழுது போக்கு அம்சங்களாக இருக்கவில்லை. பின்னாளில் வாழ்வை எதிர்கொள்வதற்கான மனஉறுதியைக் கொண்டிருந்தன. இத்தகைய தாத்தா-பாட்டிகளை நாம் தொலைத்துவிட்டு மன அழுத்தத்திற்கு மனநல மருத்துவர்களை நாடிச் செல்வதும், ஆலோசகர்களை அணுகி ஆலோசனை கேட்பதும் பேதைமை நிறைந்தது.

நம் முன்னோர்கள் விவசாயம் அறிந்திருந்தார்கள். பருவநிலையைப் புரிந்திருந்தார்கள். மனித மனங்களைப் பற்றிய தெளிவு அவர்களுக்கு இருந்தது. வாழ்வின் தேவை என்ன? நிம்மதியாய் வாழ்வதற்கானவழிவகை என்ன என்பதையும்அவர்கள் உணர்ந்திருந்தார்கள்.இவற்றையெல்லாம் நமக்குத் தேவையான பொழுது கற்றுத் தருவதற்கும் காத்திருந்தார்கள். இன்றைக்கு அந்தத் தாத்தாக்கள் தொலைந்து போனார்கள்.
ஒவ்வொரு முதியவரும், தமக்குள் கொண்டிருக்கும் ஆற்றல், அனுபவம், அன்பு இவற்றின் தொகுப்பாக விளங்குகிறார்கள். இந்த மதிப்புமிக்க பெரியோர்கள் நம் தேசத்தின் சொத்து. இதனை உதாசீனப்படுத்துவதும், ஒதுக்கி வைப்பதும் நம்முடைய வளர்ச்சியை பாதிக்கும் செயல். இதனை நாம் உணரத் தலைப்படும்பொழுது இன்னும் மிகுந்த வளர்ச்சியோடு வேகத்தோடு நவீன யுகத்தில் நாம் ஆரோக்கியமான வாழ்க்கையை அமைத்துக் கொள்ள முடியும்.

இன்றைய தகவல் தொழில்நுட்ப யுகத்தில் இளைஞர்கள் புரிந்து கொள்ள வேண்டியது, முதியோர்களின் அறிவாற்றலும் திறமையும் உழைப்பும் கொண்டுதான் நாம் வாழும் இந்த உலகம் இயங்கிக் கொண்டிருக்கிறது என்பதையே. இன்று நாம் அனுபவிப்பவை அனைத்தும் நேற்றைய தலைமுறையினரின் உழைப்பின் பலன்தான். நம்மைக் காட்டிலும் முதியவர்கள் எவ்விதத்திலும் தாழ்ந்தவர்கள் அல்லர். சொல்லப் போனால், வாய்ப்புகள் இத்தனை உலகளாவிய அளவில் வாய்க்கப் பெறாத காலத்திலும் அவர்கள் சமூகத்தை மேம்பட்ட நிலையில் வைத்திருந்தார்கள்.
கலை இலக்கியம் அறிவியல் என்று எந்தத் துறையை எடுத்துக் கொண்டாலும், அந்தத் துறையில் முதியவர்கள் நமது முன்னோடிகள். அப்துல் கலாம் போன்ற அறிவியல் அறிஞர்கள், நம்மாழ்வார் போன்ற வேளாண் வல்லுநர்கள், ஐராவதம் மகாதேவன் போன்ற ஆய்வாளர்கள், 96 வயதிலும் யோகக் கலையில் சிறந்து விளங்கும் நானம்மாள் பாட்டி, அதே வயதில் கல்வி கற்கும் ஆர்வத்தோடு படித்துத் தேர்வுகளில் முன் நிற்கும் கார்த்தியாயினி அம்மாள், 82 வயதில் சற்றும் சளைக்காமல் வெறும் கால்களுடன் ஓடி ஆசிய போட்டிகளில் நான்கு தங்கப்பதக்கங்களை வென்று இன்னமும் முனைப்போடு சர்வதேச போட்டிகளுக்கு தன்னை தயார்படுத்திக் கொண்டிருக்கும் ராஜேந்திரன், 96 வயதிலும் இன்னமும் புதினங்களை சளைக்காமல் புதிது புதிதாக எழுதிக் கொண்டே இருக்கும் எழுத்தாளர் கி. ராஜநாராயணன்- இப்படி எத்தனை எத்தனையோ சாதனைப் பெரியவர்கள் நம் தேசத்தில் உண்டு.

முதியவர்கள் நமக்கு வழிகாட்டிகள் எனும் எண்ணம் உருவாக வேண்டிய கட்டாயம் தற்போது ஏற்பட்டிருக்கிறது. இன்றைய உளவியல் சிக்கல்கள் அனைத்திற்கும் தீர்வாக முதியவர்கள் இருக்க முடியும். உடல் ஆரோக்கியம் காப்பதற்கு நம் பாட்டிமார்களை நாம் மீட்டெடுத்துத் தீர வேண்டும். எத்தகைய இக்கட்டான நிலையிலும் இவர்கள் நம்முடைய நலனைப் பேணுபவர்களாக இருந்தார்கள். நமக்குப் பொருள் ஈட்டித் தந்திருக்கிறார்கள். அவர்கள் ஈட்டித் தந்த பொருளை நாம் ஏற்றுக் கொள்கிறோம். ஆனால் அவர்கள் சம்பாதித்த அனுபவங்களை ஏற்க மறுப்பது, நம் மூதாதையரின் சொத்துகளை நாம் வேண்டாம் என்று மறுப்பதற்கு ஒப்பானது.
ஒவ்வொரு குடும்பத்திலும் தத்தமது பெற்றோர்களைஅல்லது தாத்தா பாட்டிகளை பாதுகாக்க வேண்டிய அடிப்படை பொறுப்பு உள்ளவர்கள் இளைஞர்கள். இளம் சமூகம் தன் துடிப்போடும் வேகத்தோடும் முதியோரின் அனுபவத்தையும் ஏற்றுக்கொண்டு செயல்படும்பொழுது அனுபவம்-ஆற்றல் இந்தக் கூட்டுச் சேர்க்கை வெற்றி பெறுவதற்கு வழிகோலும் என்பதில் ஐயமில்லை.

அடுத்த தலைமுறைக்காக உழைத்து நம்மை வாழவைத்த முதியவர்கள் தங்கள் முதுமையின் காரணமாக சற்றே தளர்ந்து போகும்பொழுது அவர்களுக்குக் கைகொடுக்க வேண்டியது தம்முடைய கடமை என்பதை இன்றைய தலைமுறை மறந்து கொண்டிருக்கிறது. அவர்களை கவனித்துக் கொள்ள வேண்டியதும் நமது பொறுப்பே. உடல்நல தடைகள் காரணமாக இவர்கள் தவிப்புக்கு ஆளாகிறார்கள். இதனைப் புரிந்து கொண்டு அவர்களுக்குத் தேவையான ஆரோக்கியமான நல்ல சூழலை உருவாக்கித் தர வேண்டிய கடமை இன்றைய இளம் தலைமுறைக்கு உண்டு.
முதுமையில் உடல் தளர்வு காரணமாக தன்னைச் சுற்றி உள்ளவர்களை சார்ந்து வாழும் நிலை தோன்றும் பொழுது நாம் அதனை சுமையாகக் கருதும் மனப்பான்மையை தற்போது பெற்றிருக்கிறோம். இந்த மனப்பான்மை முதியோர்களுக்கு மட்டும் பிரச்னை அல்ல, வளரும் தலைமுறைக்கும் நஷ்டமேயாகும்.

அரசு இவர்களின் தேவைகளை, பிரச்னைகளை உணர்ந்து சட்டங்களை இயற்றி இருக்கிறது. பெற்றோர் மற்றும் மூத்த குடிமக்கள் நலன் மற்றும் பராமரிப்புச் சட்டம் 2007-ஆம் ஆண்டு உருவாக்கப்பட்டது. இந்த சட்டத்தின் வாயிலாக கைவிடப்பட்ட, உறவினர்களால் ஒதுக்கப்பட்ட முதியோருக்கு அவர்களது சொத்துகளை மீண்டும் அவர்களிடமே ஒப்படைத்தல், கைவிடப்பட்ட முதியோருக்கு சட்டப்படியானபாதுகாப்பினை வழங்குதல், மூத்த குடிமக்களுக்கான பராமரிப்பு இல்லங்கள் அமைத்தல் என்று பல சட்டங்கள் நடை முறைப்படுத்தப்பட்டுள்ளன. 

உதவித்தொகை வழங்குவதில் அரசு பல சட்டங்களை இயற்றி இருக்கிறது. பிள்ளைகளால் கைவிடப்பட்ட முதியோர், ஆதரவற்ற முதியோர், கைம்பெண்களுக்கான உதவித்தொகை, திருமணம் செய்து கொள்ளாது தனித்து வாழும் பெண்களுக்கான உதவித் தொகை என்று பல விதங்களில் அரசு இவர்களை கவனத்தில் கொண்டு இருக்கிறது. ஒவ்வோர் ஆண்டும் அக்டோபர் முதல் தேதியை உலக முதியோர் தினமாகக் கடைப்பிடிக்க வேண்டும் எனஅறிவித்தது. வயது முதிர்ந்தோர் எதிர்கொள்ளக் கூடிய சவால்கள் மற்றும் பிரச்னைகளை கருத்தில் கொண்டு 2002- ஆம்ஆண்டிலிருந்து முதியோருக்கான செயல்பாட்டுத் திட்டங்களையும் அரசு நடைமுறைப்படுத்தி வருகிறது. 

ரயில்வே முன்பதிவு தொடங்கி, வருமான வரிச்சலுகைவரை, முதியவர்களுக்கு என்று பல சலுகைகளும் மதிப்பும் அரசால் வழங்கப்படுகிறது. முதியோருக்கான சுதந்திரம், உலகில், அவர்களுடைய பங்களிப்பு, வயதானவர்களை மதித்தல் இவற்றை உறுதிப்படுத்தும் வகையில் உலக முதியோர் தினம் கடைப்பிடிக்கப்பட வேண்டும் என்று ஐ.நா. தெரிவித்துள்ளது. ஏனெனில் அவர்களும் இந்த உலகின் பங்குதாரர்களே.
இந்தியாவில் கடந்த 10 ஆண்டுகளில் முதியோர் இல்லங்களின் எண்ணிக்கை வேகமாக அதிகரித்து வருகிறது என்பது சமூகம் ஆரோக்கியமின்மை நோக்கி நகர்வதற்கான அறிகுறி. சமூக மாற்றத்திற்கு, இயந்திரத்தனமான வாழ்க்கை, மேலை நாட்டுக் கலாசாரத்தை பின்பற்றுதல், ஒருவருக்காக மற்றவர் நேரம் செலவிட முடியாமல் ஓடுவது என்று பல காரணங்கள் சொல்லப்படுகின்றன. 

தேசத்தின் புராண வரலாறு, கலாசாரப் பெருமை இவற்றை எல்லாம் கருத்தில் கொண்டு பார்க்கும் பொழுது, இத்தகைய மாறுதல் எவ்வகையிலும் ஏற்புடையதல்ல. 

குடும்பம்-உறவு எனும் இரு பெரும் கோட்பாடுகளை உலகிற்கு வழங்கிய தேசத்தில், முதியோர் உரிய மரியாதையோடு நடத்தப்பட வேண்டும். இளையோர் அதனை உறுதி செய்ய வேண்டும்.

Chennai: Former State Transport Minister V. Senthil Balaji and loyalist of AMMK leader TTV Dhinakaran, is likely to join the DMK in a day or two, even as AMMK's propaganda secretary Thanga Tamiliselvan dismissed it as untrue.

Senthil Balaji is among the 18 disqualified MLAs - all supporters of Dhinakaran, who won from the city's RK Nagar Assembly constituency trouncing the ruling AIADMK and DMK. Presently, he is AMMK's organising secretary.

He could not be reached to confirm if he was joining the opposition DMK, but sources claimed he is likely to join the party soon. Media reports quoting former State Minister and DMK's farmers wing secretary M. Chinnasamy, said that Balaji would join the DMK either on Thursday or Sunday when the statue of late DMK president M. Karunanidhi will be unveiled.

Meanwhile, AMMK propaganda secretary Thanga Thamilselvan dismissed reports about Senthil Balaji shifting loyalties to the DMK as untrue. He said in Madurai on Wednesday "Media alone is speculating about Senthil Balaji's decision to join the DMK. It is wrong. He will not leave us. I am in touch with him on a daily basis. He will not join the DMK."

In a surprise development, some of Senthil Balaji's supporters returned to the AIADMK in Karur in the presence of State Transport Minister M. R. Vijayabaskar on Wednesday.

Senthil Balaji's electoral debut was as union councillor from Manmangalam panchayat in Karur union in 1996. He was elected as an independent with the support of a local Kongu caste outfit. Later, he joined AIADMK in 2000 and again he was given a ticket for Karur union councillor election. He won the same seat for the second term in 2001.

He won from Karur Assembly segment in 2011 and was made the Transport Minister but was dropped from the Cabinet in July, 2015.

Though he won from Arvakkuruchi Assembly constituency as AIADMK candidate in 2016 Assembly election, he was disqualified along with 17 others after they rebelled against Chief Minister Edappadi K.Palaniswami.

Court asks govt whether it can accommodate the 2nd year students.

Chennai: The Madras high court has asked the state government to clarify as to whether it could accommodate the second year students of defunct Ponnaiyah Ramajayam Medical Sciences in Manamai Nallur in Kancheepuram district, in the Junior 2017-18 batch of second year students studying in the government medical colleges.

Posting to December 13, further hearing of a batch of petitions from second year students of Ponnaiyah medical college, Justice T.Raja orally asked AAG, Narmada Sampath, to give the above clarification.

When the petitions came up for hearing on Wednesday, Deans of two government medical colleges and a professor appeared before the judge and explained the difficulties in accommodating the students of Ponnaiyah college in the second year. Then, the judge asked the senior counsels appearing for the students to argue the case on merits.

Senior counsel S. Prabakaran submitted that as per the Essentiality Certificate issued by the state government, if anything happens to the college and it was closed down, the state government should take the responsibility of protecting the interest of the students. Several judgments of the high courts and Supreme Court say the state government should accommodate the students of the defunct college to the government medical colleges. It was not the fault of the students. They were all meritorious students. The court should take into account the interest and life of the students, he added.

Senior counsel Silambannan submitted that the state government was refusing to accommodate these students on the premise that the government colleges were overloaded since the students of another defunct Annai Medical college were already transferred to the government medical colleges. But, the present batch of students wants to join the 2017-18 batch, who have completed their first year and joined the second year in October 2018, he added.

Senior Counsel P.Wilson submitted that the state government says these students will be accommodated in Self Financing Medical Colleges, which cannot be done. The Self Financing Medical colleges do not have sufficient clinical materials (patients) but government medical have them.

The state government wanted to accommodate 36 students in a deemed university. Was it not a burden for that college? When the government was ready to create more seats and accommodate these students in August 2019, why not now. These students want to join with the junior second year students of 2017-18 batch, which has just started. They may lose two or three months but they will make up the attendance. It was not moral responsibility. It was a legal responsibility of the government to accommodate these students in government medical colleges. The state has to bear the burden. Instead of one teacher, it can provide 2 teachers. The government cannot say accommodating 4 students was a burden, Wilson added.

Chennai: Newly married couple ends life after man’s mom dies

Chennai: A newly married couple allegedly committed suicide at their house in Madipakkam on Wednesday morning, as the man could not get over the pain of losing his mother.

The deceased were identified as G.Sarathy and S.Prashanthi, residents of Balaiah Garden in Madipakkam. The 31-year-old Sarathy and his wife Prashanthi got married five months ago, and both were working for a private mobile company in OMR. Prashanthi was four months pregnant.

According to sources, Sarathy’s mother Lalitha died in November 2017. Sarathy who was very attached to his mother could not cope with the loss.

To help Sarathy get over his depression, his brother Manibalan (35) got him married to Prashanthi in July 2018. However, Sarathy could not lead a happy life as there seemed no end to his grief.

According to the police, a month back Manibalan moved out of the house with his wife and a son and rented another house in the locality. Meanwhile, on Wednesday morning Manibalan tried to contact his brother many times, but in vain. On suspicion, Manibalan visited his house and to his shock found Sarathy and Prashanthi hanging in the bedroom.

On being informed Madipakkam polcie rushed to the spot and recovered the bodies of the couple and sent them to Chromepet government hospital for post-mortem. On searching the house, police found a suicide note written by Sarathy which mentioned that he could not bear losing his mother and had decided to end his life. Prashanthi, who was also depressed by her husband’s behaviour, allegedly committed suicide, said sources. Police are now conducting investigations with Manibalan and his wife.

CHENNAI : There is no need now to stand in queue in front of the Sub-Registrar offices to get the encumbrance certificate, a certificate of assurance that the property in question, is free from any legal or monetary liability such as a mortgage or an uncleared loan, signed and sealed before proceeding to your bank to get loans or transfer of property.

Now, the certificate will be digitally signed and provided to applicants online, thus ensuring transparency and achieving the goal set by the State government in 2013 to have all registration department services online, said Inspector General of Registration, J Kumaragurubaran, after the inauguration of the services by Chief Minister Edapaddi K Palaniswami.

The Chief Minister also inaugurated three sub-registrar offices built at a cost of Rs 2.19 crore.


Giving out details about the QR-coded encumbrance certificate, Kumaragurubaran said, “Under this process, we have amended the rules to make the certificate digitally signed instead of electronically signed. Under this, the applicant will choose the property of his choice and then pay the fee after which the application will automatically be directed to the back end of the office,” said Kumaragurubaran.

“After the same, each and every paper will have a QR code and digital signature will appear on the last page. It will be converted to a PDF file and sent it to you. All you have to do is to scan the QR code through your mobile phone and you will access the encumbrance certificate,” he added.Due to the initiative of the Chief Minister, it was also ensured that applicants do not face trouble in having the transaction online, limited to 11 banks only while registering the documents. “Now it is extended to 58 banks, and covers credit, debit and other cards,” said Kumaragurubaran.

The government by now has made several services available online in rural areas such as to get marriage certificates, society registration, chits or chit funds registering, NOCs, besides providing death and birth certificates. “The birth and death certificates will now be available online for rural applicants only,” he said.“Now all the components of the Registration department are online, except urban integration of the services which we expect to be done by January,” said Kumaragurubaran.

CHENNAI : A revenue department staff was convicted and sentenced to two years imprisonment by a court here on Tuesday in a seven-year-old bribery case.According to prosecution, R Sekar, then serving as a junior assistant in Mylapore taluk office, had demanded `4,500 as bribe from one C Sekar to issue a patta in 2011. Initially, the complainant paid `500 and the official had asked him to pay the remaining sum the following day.






The complainant approached Directorate of Vigilance and Anti Corruption.R sekar was caught red-handed when accepting the bribe from the complainant.A Special Court under Prevention of Corruption Act on Tuesday pronounced him guilty. Besides the two-year jail term, the judge S Hermies imposed a fine of `3,000 on him.

The doctors said they believe the child, at 5.2 kg at time of birth, is the heaviest child to be born through normal delivery in this government hospital.

CHENNAI: A 30-year-old woman has given birth to a healthy 5.2 kg baby boy at the Government Kasturba Gandhi Hospital for Women and Children here recently. What has come as a reason for rejoice for the government hospital doctors was that it was a normal delivery, at a time when many of the private hospitals go for caesarean citing even minor complications. The doctors said they believe the child, at 5.2 kg at time of birth, is the heaviest child to be born through normal delivery in this government hospital, which is renowned for maternity care in Chennai.

Speaking to Express, Dr S Vijaya, Director (in-charge) of the hospital said, “This is the first time in the hospital we are having such a heavy baby through normal delivery. The mother had no complications following the delivery. The mother and baby are fine now." She said last time the hospital was handling delivery of a child weighing 5.1 kg, they were forced to go for the c-section.


The delivery was conducted on November 28. “But we have kept the baby on observation to check for any complications due to over-weight. But, now the baby is doing fine and we will discharge him soon," said Dr Vijaya.

For the mother Jayashree, a resident of Saidapet, this was the second child. She had given birth to her first child ten years ago.

"Usually, obese mothers or women with well built body would deliver heavy weight baby (through normal delivery) But, in this case the mother of normal weight,” Dr Vijaya said.

CHENNAI: In a twist to the sensational murder case of a neurosurgeon here in 2013, one of the accused turned an approver saying he was 'pricked by his conscience'.

P Iyappan deposed that on September 14 that year, he and two others, Murugan and Selvaprakash, waited for the doctor S D Subbiah to emerge from a hospital.

When the doctor walked up to his car, Iyappan said Murugan hit the surgeon first on his head and later Selvaprakash hacked him.

Iyappan, in his deposition before an additional sessions court on Tuesday, said he was on a motorcycle just behind the victim's car when the duo attacked the doctor.


Soon after the two assailants committed the crime, he said all three of them fled the scene in the motorcycle.

On why he chose to confess, Iyappan said he was 'pricked by his conscience' that a doctor was murdered for money and jobs abroad.

"I am making this confession voluntarily," he added.

Special Public Prosecutor N Vijayaraj examined him and defence counsel Raghunathan cross-examined the witness.

Also, Iyappan said Murugan apprised him just before the murder that each one of them would be paid Rs 50 lakh for executing the crime and were also assured of jobs abroad.

According to Iyappan, a property dispute at Anjugramam village in Kanyakumari district between the doctor and Ponnusamy (accused-1) led to the crime.

With Iyappan turning approver, the total number of accused in the case has now come down to nine.

DVAC officials raid TNPCB office

Demand a new hostel building and better basic amenities

Demanding a new hostel building and better basic amenities in the college, students of Government Siddha Medical College in Palayamkottai staged sit-in dharna for a while on their college premises on Wednesday.

While the women’s hostels functioning on the college premises is battling acute water crisis for the past several years, the men’s hostel at Vannarpet, a dilapidated structure, is to be razed down shortly. As precursor, the hostel students have been asked to move out. The affected male students staged dharna on the college premises on Wednesday demanding a temporary hostel with mess facility until the new hostel building comes-up. As the students started raising slogans to highlight their demand, police personnel were deployed in the college campus.

The protesting students said they were asked to move out of the hostel to facilitate the demolition of the existing hostel building in deplorable condition with the assurance that temporary hostel with mess would be created within 90 days.

“However, the officials have comfortably forgotten the promise they gave. While no step has been taken to commence the construction of the new hostel, there is no sign of starting the temporary hostel with mess so as to help the students studying from various parts of Tamil Nadu. If not, we’ll continue to agitate against the official apathy,” they said.

The college authorities assured the protesting students that their demand would be forwarded to the government and informed them that they would be temporarily settled down in a hostel built near Reddiyarpatti on Palayamkottai outskirts for the Government Law College students, which is yet to be occupied. However, the protestors refused to accept it and continued their agitation even after 8.15 p.m.

567 normal deliveries and 461 Caesarean section performed in November

The Obstetrics and Gynaecology Department of the Government Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College Hospital (GMKMCH) has achieved a major milestone by crossing 1,000 deliveries this November.

The Department, one among the three Reproductive and Child Health Centres of Excellence in the State, registered as many as 1,028 deliveries last month, thanks to the team of dedicated doctors and modern infrastructure. While 567 were normal deliveries, 461 were Caesarean section.

Set up in 1990, the Department accounted for 500 beds and pregnant women belonging to weaker sections from Salem and surrounding districts of Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, Namakkal, Erode, Villupuram and Karur get admitted here for safe delivery.

According to M. K. Rajendran, the Dean, GMKMCH, the Department accounted for a committed team of obstetricians, neonatologists, anaesthetists functioning 24 x 7. The State government and the National Rural Health Mission have sanctioned liberal funds for the creation of additional facilities and the procurement of sophisticated equipment in the recent past.

Infrastructure

Dr. Rajendran said that the labour room of the Department headed by S.S. Subha was well-equipped with labour cots, continuous foetal monitoring machines, central oxygen supply facility, multipara monitor, and a blood bank.

The Department has an excellent set up of obstetric intensive care unit with ventilator support, and high dependency unit with facilities that were not available even in the corporate hospitals.

The department also has a spacious patient waiting area, and a shed for attenders sponsored by the Salem Corporation. While 597 deliveries took place here in January this year, it was 618 in February, 764 in March, 698 in April, 806 in May, 796 in June, 811 in July, 864 in August, 837 in September and 935 in October. “We had set a target of 1,000 deliveries in November, but exceeded the target and managed 1,028 deliveries”, Dr. Rajendran told The Hindu .

Apart from obstetric case, the Department also excelled in family planning services by performing laparoscopic hysterectomies and lap sterilization. The Department also serves as a training centre for skilled birth attendants-nurses and basic emergency obstetrics and newborn care for fresh doctors.

Courts never considered whether condemned man could reform: SC Bench

The Supreme Court on Wednesday commuted the death penalty of a man who murdered six of a family, including children, in Kerala on the ground that none of the courts that heard the case bothered to examine the probability of his “reform or rehabilitation and social reintegration.”

A three-judge Review Bench, led by Justice Madan B. Lokur, commuted the death penalty of M.A. Antony to life imprisonment, setting aside its own judgment.

The Review Bench said none of the courts, from the trial court to the Supreme Court, gave a thought to the possibility of his reform.

“There is no meaningful discussion on why, if at all, the appellant [Antony] could not be reformed or rehabilitated,” Justice Lokur observed.

Antony, represented by advocate Manoj George, murdered the family in January 2001 after they refused to lend him money to travel to the West Asia for a job.

The Review Bench held that Antony was in dire straits and had gone to the house in the hope of getting some money and after the refusal, he decided to “kill all of them.”

The Bench held that though the socio-economic condition of a convict was not a factor in disproving his guilt, it was a factor that must be taken into consideration for awarding him an appropriate sentence.

However, Justice Lokur, writing the verdict for the Bench comprising Justices S.Abdul Nazeer and Deepak Gupta, did not agree with Mr. Manoj George’s submission that the life of a condemned man should be spared because he had spent years on death row.

“There are a number of cases where convicts have been on death row for more than six years, and if a standard period was to be adopted, perhaps each and every person on death row might have to be given the benefit of commutation of the death sentence to life imprisonment,” Justice Lokur said.

The Review Bench agreed that there was no material to back the State of Kerala’s claim that Antony was a “hardened criminal.”

The Bench also said the courts should consider whether a death row convict from a poor background got adequate legal representation.

“The poor are more often than not at the receiving end in access to justice and access to the remedies available,” Justice Lokur said.

More seats in medical courses likely

The State government expects to add more seats to postgraduate and undergraduate medical courses next academic year.

As many as 60 seats in various specialities across MD/MS and at least two new self-financing colleges, with an intake of 150 students each in MBBS, could be added, said S. Geethalakshmi, vice-chancellor, Tamil Nadu Dr. MGR Medical University.

Speaking on the sidelines of the inauguration of an Ayush Wellness Centre on Wednesday, she said the Kovai Medical Centre and the Panimalar group of institutions had applied for setting up medical colleges.

While the former’s application had gone to the governing body of the Medical Council for approval, the university was in the process of completing formalities for the latter, before sending it for approval to the Council. “We will then give a letter of consent for affiliation. After the Medical Council gives permission, we will send an inspection team,” Ms. Geethalakshmi, said.

The university has also noticed a better performance by first year students. “Usually 93% of students pass in the first year. This year it has gone up to 95%,” she said.

Wellness centre

Earlier, Health Minister C. Vijaya Baskar commissioned a wellness centre. The 5,000 sq.ft centre, set up at an estimated cost of Rs. 1.66 crore, includes dedicated rooms for OPD treatment for yoga, Ayurveda, naturopathy and siddha systems of medicine.

Equipment worth Rs. 20 lakh has been installed. The facility will not only help the public but also medical students of the university, the Minister said.

SC commutes death sentence of rape and murder convict to life

The Supreme Court on Wednesday commuted the death sentence to life in prison for a convict who had raped and murdered a threeyear old girl in Amravati in Maharashtra.

A bench of Justices Madan B Lokur, S Abdul Nazeer and Deepak Gupta said the trial court and Bombay high court had not taken into consideration the probability of reformation, rehabilitation and social re-integration of the convict into society and set aside their orders awarding death sentence. It said even in cases where there is no chance of reformation, the long duration of imprisonment beyond 14 years could be awarded instead of death sentence.

“We should not forget that the criminal, however ruthless he might be, is nevertheless a human being and is entitled to a life of dignity, notwithstanding his crime. Therefore, it is for the prosecution and the courts to determine whether such a person, notwithstanding his crime, can be reformed and rehabilitated. To obtain and analyze this information is certainly not an easy task but must nevertheless be undertaken,” the bench said.

The court was hearing a plea of the convict who was awarded death sentence by a trial court in Amravati in September 2008 for raping and murdering a 3-year-old girl in 2007. The lower court’s verdict was upheld by the high court in 2009.

The court said there is no conclusive study on deterrent impact of death sentence and that it has a chilling effect.

Even in cases where there is no chance of reformation, the long duration of imprisonment beyond 14 years could be awarded instead of death sentence

இஷாவின் திருமணத்துக்காக அடிக்கப்பட்ட அழைப்பிதழின் விலையே ரூ.3 லட்சம். திருமண நிகழ்ச்சியில் கலந்துகொள்ள வரும் அம்பானியின் விருந்தினர்களுக்காக உதய்பூரில் உள்ள மொத்த நட்சத்திர ஹோட்டல்களும் மூன்று நாள்கள் வாடகைக்கு எடுக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. உதய்பூர் விமான நிலையத்தில் பெரிய அளவில் போக்குவரத்து இருக்காது. ஒரு நாளைக்கு 19 லேண்டிங் மற்றும் டேக் ஆஃப்தான் உண்டு. அம்பானி மகள் திருமணத்துக்காக 100 தனியார் விமானங்கள் புக் செய்யப்பட்டிருந்தன. மேலும் ஜாகுவார், பி.எம். டபிள்யூ, மெர்ஸிடெஸ் பென்ஸ், ஆடி கார்கள் மட்டும் 1000 கார்கள் உதய்பூர் நகரங்களில் வலம் வந்தன. மூன்று நாள் கொண்டாட்டத்தில், சுமார் 5,100 விருந்தினர்கள் கலந்துகொண்டுள்ளனர். இவர்களுக்கு, மூன்று நாளும் மூன்று வேளைக்கு பல வகையான உணவுகள் வழங்கப்பட்டுள்ளன. மேலும், விருந்தினர்களைக் கவர 108 விலைமதிப்பு மிக்க பாரம்பர்ய ஓவியங்களும் வைக்கப்பட்டிருந்தன.

கடன் பிரச்னையால், சென்னையில் உள்ள விடுதியில் தொழிலதிபர் ஒருவர் மனைவியுடன் தற்கொலை செய்துகொண்டார். அவர்கள் எழுதிய கடிதத்தை போலீஸார் கைப்பற்றியுள்ளனர்.

தூத்துக்குடி மாவட்டம் பரமன்குறிச்சியைச் சேர்ந்தவர் கிருஷ்ணவேல் (50). சென்னை, ஷெனாய்நகர் வெங்கடாசலபதி தெருவில் குடியிருந்தார். இவரின் மனைவி உமா (36). இவர்களுக்கு ஒரு மகன், ஒரு மகள் உள்ளனர். சென்னையை அடுத்த மணலியில் அலுமினிய நிறுவனம் நடத்திவந்தார். தொழிலை விரிவாக்கம் செய்வதற்காக வங்கியில் ஒரு கோடி ரூபாய் கடன் பெற்றதாகக் கூறப்படுகிறது. தொழிலில் நஷ்டம் ஏற்பட்டதால், கடனைத் திருப்பிச் செலுத்த முடியவில்லை. இதனால், கிருஷ்ணவேல் கடும் மன உளைச்சலில் இருந்துள்ளார். இந்நிலையில், குடும்பத்தினருடன் சென்னை எழும்பூரில் உள்ள லாட்ஜில் தங்கினார். அப்போது, வீட்டில் கட்டடப்பணிகள் நடப்பதால், விடுதியில் தங்குவதாகக் கூறியுள்ளார். அதை நம்பிய விடுதி ஊழியர்கள் அறை கொடுத்துள்ளனர். குடும்பத்தினருடன் 206-ம் நம்பர் அறையில் தங்கியுள்ளார்.



இன்று அதிகாலை, கிருஷ்ணவேலின் மகள் அழுதுகொண்டே தங்கும் விடுதியின் வரவேற்பு அறைக்கு ஓடிவந்தார். அவரிடம் விடுதி ஊழியர்கள் விசாரித்தபோது, அம்மாவும் அப்பாவும் தற்கொலை செய்துகொண்டதாகத் தெரிவித்துள்ளார். இதனால் அதிர்ச்சியடைந்த விடுதி ஊழியர்கள், அறைக்குச் சென்று பார்த்தனர். அப்போது கிருஷ்ணவேல், உமா ஆகியோர் விஷம் அருந்தி இறந்துகிடந்தனர். தகவல் அறிந்ததும் எழும்பூர் போலீஸார் சம்பவ இடத்துக்கு வந்து, இருவரின் சடலத்தையும் கைப்பற்றி பிரேதப் பரிசோதனைக்காக ராஜீவ் காந்தி அரசு ஆஸ்பத்திரிக்கு அனுப்பிவைத்தனர். குழந்தைகள் இருவருக்கும் மயக்க மருந்து கொடுத்து, அவர்கள் தூங்கிய பின்னர் இருவரும் தற்கொலை செய்துகொண்டது தெரியவந்தது. கிருஷ்ணவேல் எழுதிய மூன்று பக்கக் கடிதத்தை போலீஸார் கைப்பற்றியுள்ளனர். அதில், வாங்கிய கடனுக்காக சொந்தமான இடத்தை உறவினர்கள் நம்பிக்கைத் துரோகம் செய்து பறித்துக்கொண்ட தகவல் கடிதத்தில் குறிப்பிடப்பட்டுள்ளது. அதன்அடிப்படையில், சம்பந்தப்பட்டவர்களிடம் விசாரணை நடத்த போலீஸார் முடிவுசெய்துள்ளனர்.

காலையில் மயக்கம் தெளித்த கிருஷ்ணவேலின் மகள், அப்பா, அம்மா இருவரும் வாயில் நுரைதள்ளியபடி கிடந்ததைப் பார்த்து அதிர்ச்சியடைந்துள்ளார். உடனடியாகத் தனது சகோதரனை எழுப்ப முயற்சிசெய்துள்ளார். ஆனால், மயக்கம் காரணமாக அவர் கண்விழிக்கவில்லை. அதனால்தான் விடுதியின் வரவேற்பு அறைக்கு அவர் ஓடியுள்ளார். அங்கு தகவல் தெரிவித்தவுடன், இருவரையும் ஆம்புலன்ஸில் ஏற்றி மருத்துவமனைக்குக் கொண்டுசென்றனர். அங்கு அவர்களைப் பரிசோதித்த டாக்டர்கள், இறந்துவிட்டதாகத் தெரிவித்தனர். படுக்கையில் மயங்கிக்கிடந்த தொழிலதிபர் கிருஷ்ணவேலின் மகனுக்கு மருத்துவமனையில் சிகிச்சைஅளிக்கப்பட்டது. அதன்பிறகே அவருக்கு மயக்கம் தெளிந்துள்ளது. அப்பாவும் அம்மாவும் இப்படி பண்ணிவிட்டார்களே என்று அவர் மருத்துவமனையில் கதறி அழுதார்.

ஒரே நேரத்தில் அம்மாவும் அப்பாவும் இறந்ததால், அவர்களின் மகனும் மகளும் கதறி அழுதச் சம்பவம் பெரும் சோகத்தை ஏற்படுத்தியது. தங்களுடைய அப்பா, அம்மாவின் மரணத்துக்குக் காரணமானவர்கள் மீது கடும் நடவடிக்கை எடுக்க வேண்டும் என்று போலீஸாரிடம் அவர்கள் கூறியுள்ளனர்.

புதுச்சேரி அரியாங்குப்பத்தைச் சேர்ந்தவர் ராஜா. நேற்று முன்தினம் இரவு பணி காரணமாக ராஜா வெளியூருக்குச் சென்றிருந்த நேரம் வீட்டில் அவரின் மனைவி விஜயா, மகன், மகள் ஆகியோர் உறங்கிக்கொண்டிருந்தனர். அப்போது நள்ளிரவு 12.30 மணியளவில் வீட்டுக்குள் இருந்த பாத்திரங்கள் உருளும் சத்தம்கேட்டதால் பயந்துபோன விஜயா விளக்கைப் போட்டுப் பார்த்திருக்கிறார்.

அப்போது 5 அடி நீளமுள்ள நல்ல பாம்பு படமெடுத்து சீறிக்கொண்டிருப்பதைப் பார்த்ததும் அதிர்ந்துபோன அவர் தன் பிள்ளைகளை எழுப்பி விட்டார். அந்த நேரத்தில் அக்கம் பக்கத்து வீட்டினரையும் உதவிக்கு அழைக்க முடியாததால் அவசர போலீஸ் எண் 100-க்கு போன் செய்தார் விஜயா. ஆனால், அங்கு வனத்துறையின் தொலைபேசி எண்ணைக் கொடுத்து பேசச் சொல்லியிருக்கிறார்கள்.



ஆனால் பலமுறை போன் செய்தும் அங்கு யாரும் போனை எடுக்கவில்லை. அதனால், வேறு வழியின்றி அரசு டைரியில் இருந்த முதல்வர் நாராயணசாமியின் செல்போன் எண்ணுக்கு போன் செய்தார். அப்போது தூங்கிக்கொண்டிருந்த முதல்வர் நாராயணசாமி அவசர அழைப்பாக இருக்கும் என்று போனை எடுத்துப் பேசினார். எதிர்முனையில் பேசிய விஜயா போலீஸுக்கும் வனத்துறைக்கும் போன் செய்தும் பயனில்லை. அதனால் உங்களுக்குப் போன் செய்தேன் என்று சொன்னதோடு எங்களைக் காப்பாற்றுங்கள் என்றும் தெரிவித்தார்.



உடனே விஜயாவுக்கு ஆறுதல் தெரிவித்த அவர், விடுமுறையில் இருந்த கோபி, தாமரைச்செல்வன் இரண்டு ஊழியர்களை உடனே அனுப்பி பாம்பைப் பிடிக்கும்படி உத்தரவிட்டார். அதன் பிறகு விஜயா வீட்டிற்குச் சென்ற அவர்கள் அந்த விஷப் பாம்பை அங்கிருந்து பிடித்துச் சென்றனர். முதல்வர் நாராயணசாமியின் இந்த நடவடிக்கையை மக்கள் வெகுவாகப் பாராட்டி வருகின்றனர்.

அம்பானி வீட்டுத் திருமணம்: மும்பை விமான நிலையம் புதிய சாதனை!

மும்பை சத்ரபதி சர்வதேச விமான நிலையத்திலிருந்து முக்கிய விருந்தினர்கள், பாலிவுட் நட்சத்திரங்கள் எனப் பலரும் சிறப்பு விமானங்கள் மூலம் உதய்பூருக்கு அழைத்துச் செல்லப்பட்டனர்.

மும்பை விமான நிலையம், அம்பானி இல்லத் திருமணத்தை முன்னிட்டு, ஒரே நாளில் 1,004 விமான சேவைகளைக் கையாண்டு புதிய சாதனையைப் படைத்துள்ளது. இதற்கு முன்னர், இந்த ஆண்டு ஜூன் மாதம் ஒரே நாளில் 1,003 விமான சேவைகளை (புறப்பாடு மற்றும் வருகை) கையாண்டது சாதனையாக இருந்து வந்தது.



பிரபல தொழிலதிபர் முகேஷ் அம்பானியின் மகள் இஷா அம்பானி மற்றும் மும்பையைச் சேர்ந்த பிரபல ரியல் எஸ்டேட் தொழிலதிபர் அஜே பிரமல் மகன் ஆனந்த் பிரமல் ஆகிய இருவருக்கும் டிசம்பர் 12-ம் தேதி திருமணம் நடைபெறுகிறது. இதையொட்டி, 3 லட்சம் ரூபாய் மதிப்பில் ஒவ்வொரு அழைப்பிதழும் அச்சடிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. 3 லட்சம் ரூபாய் திருமணப் பத்திரிகை ராமேஸ்வரம் ராமநாதசுவாமி கோயில், குருவாயூர் ஸ்ரீ கிருஷ்ணர் கோயில், திருப்பதி வெங்கடாஜலபதி கோயில் ஆகியவற்றில் இந்தத் திருமணப் பத்திரிகைகளை வைத்து முகேஷ் அம்பானி சார்பில் சிறப்பு பூஜைகள் நடத்தப்பட்டன.

இந்த நிலையில், கடந்த வார இறுதியில் ராஜஸ்தான் மாநிலம், உதய்பூரில் திருமணக் கொண்டாட்டங்கள் தொடங்கின. திருமணத்துக்கு முன்பாக 8 மற்றும் 9-ம் தேதிகளில் உதய்பூர் நகரில் பிரமாண்டவகையில், திருமணத்துக்கு முந்தைய சடங்குகள் நடைபெற்றன. இந்த நிகழ்வின் ஒரு பகுதியாக ரிலையன்ஸ் நிறுவனத்தின் சுதேசி பஜாரில் 108 பாரம்பர்ய இந்திய கைவினைப் பொருள்கள் அடங்கிய மிகப்பெரும் கண்காட்சி ஏற்பாடு செய்யப்பட்டுள்ளது. இதில் இந்திய அளவிலுள்ள சிறந்த கைவினைக் கலைஞர்களின் படைப்புகள் இடம் பெற்றிருந்தன. இதற்காக உதய்பூர் நகரில் உள்ள அனைத்து நட்சத்திர ஓட்டல்களும் வாடகைக்கு எடுக்கப்பட்டுள்ளன. உறவினர்களும், நண்பர்களும் உதய்பூர் நகர் செல்வதற்காக சுமார் 50-க்கும் அதிகமான தனியார் விமானங்கள் மொத்தமாகக் குத்தகைக்கு எடுக்கப்பட்டிருந்தன.


இந்த விமானங்கள், வெள்ளிக்கிழமை முதலே இயக்கப்பட்டன. முக்கிய விருந்தினர்கள்,பாலிவுட் நட்சத்திரங்கள் எனப் பலரும், மும்பை சத்ரபதி சர்வதேச விமான நிலையத்திலிருந்து சிறப்பு விமானங்கள் மூலம் உதய்பூருக்கு அழைத்துச் செல்லப்பட்டனர். பின்னர் மீண்டும் அழைத்து வரப்பட்டனர். இதனால், சனிக்கிழமையன்று அதாவது டிசம்பர் 8-ம் தேதியன்று மும்பை சத்ரபதி சர்வதேச விமான நிலையத்தில், விமானங்களின் புறப்பாடு மற்றும் வருகை அதிகரித்தது.

அன்றைய தினம் மட்டும் 1,004 சேவைகளை மும்பை விமான நிலையம் கையாண்டதாக தெரிவிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. இதில் 903 விமான சேவைகள் வழக்கமாக இயக்கப்படும் சேவைகளாகவும், 59 விமான சேவைகள் வழக்கமான அட்டவணையில் இடம்பெறாத சேவைகளாகவும் இருந்தன. மேலும் 8 சார்ட்டர் விமானங்கள், 31 சரக்கு விமானங்கள் மற்றும் 3 ராணுவ விமானங்கள் ஆகியவையும் அன்றைய தினம் இயக்கப்பட்டதாக விமான நிலைய செய்தித் தொடர்பாளர் தெரிவித்தார்.



அம்பானி இல்லத் திருமணத்தில் பங்கேற்பதற்காக இந்தியாவிலிருந்து மட்டுமல்லாது, உலகமெங்கிலுமிருந்து, அமெரிக்காவின் ஹிலாரி கிளிண்டன் உட்பட ஆயிரத்துக்கும் மேற்பட்ட சிறப்பு விருந்தினர்கள் வருகை தருகிறார்கள் என்பது குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது.

மும்பை சர்வதேச விமான நிலையம், இரண்டு ஓடுதளங்களைக் (runways) கொண்டுள்ளது. இதில், பிரதான ஓடுதளத்தில் மணிக்கு 48 சேவைகளையும் ( வருகை மற்றும் புறப்பாடு), இரண்டாவது ஓடுதளத்தில் மணிக்கு 35 சேவைகளையும் கையாள முடியும்.

மார்ச் 31-ம் தேதியுடன் முடிவடைந்த 2017-18-ம் நிதியாண்டில் மும்பை விமான நிலையம் 48.49 மில்லியன் பயணிகள் சேவைகளைக் கையாண்டுள்ளது. 2016-17-ம் நிதியாண்டுடன் ஒப்பிடுகையில் இது 7.4 சதவிகித வளர்ச்சி ஆகும்.

Chennai: Tamil superstar Rajinikanth on Tuesday said the BJP losing elections in the Hindi heartland states of Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan and a close contest with arch rival Congress in Madhya Pradesh showed it has "lost its influence."

Reacting to BJP's loss, Makkal Needhi Maiam Chief Kamal Haasan in a tweet said, "First sign of a new start. This is people's verdict."

Speaking to reporters at the airport in Chennai, Rajinikanth said, "It clearly shows that BJP has lost its influence."

The electoral reverses for the saffron party were also a "setback" for it, he added.

The top actor's comments came in the wake of Congress trumping BJP in clear mandates in Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh to form governments, even as a close race was on the cards in Madhya Pradesh when reports last came in.

Asked about his earlier assertion that Prime Minister Narendra Modi seemed to be a 'strong' man and the BJP still losing despite the former's campaign in these states, the 67-year-old actor said, "it (the losses) is certainly a big setback for the BJP."

"There is no doubt about that," he added.

Rajinikanth, who had announced that he would take the political plunge, had last month virtually thrown his weight behind Modi, saying the PM was 'stronger' than '10 persons' aligning against him.

"When 10 persons go against one person, who is stronger? Those 10, or the persons they are aligning against. If 10 persons declare a war against one man, who is stronger," he had told reporters in Chennai when questioned on the possibility of an alliance by opposition parties against PM Modi and his BJP.

CHENNAI: The Meteorological department on Monday said a depression was forming in the Bay of Bengal and is likely to move towards north Tamil Nadu and coastal Andhra’s coast.The IMD bulletin said the low pressure area over Equatorial Indian Ocean and adjoining central parts of South Bay of Bengal with associated cyclonic circulation, is likely to become more marked during the next 48 hours and is likely to concentrate into a depression during the subsequent 24 hours. It is likely to move northwest towards north Tamil Nadu and south Coastal Andhra Pradesh coast.


Numerical weather models are indicating that conditions are favourable for the system to intensify into a cyclonic storm and impact north TN around December 15-16.Weather blogger Pradeep John said sea surface temperature, tropical cyclone heat potential and wind sheer, are perfectly placed for intensification of the system. “By and large, there is consensus among the weather models on cyclone formation around December 15-16. There will be lot more clarity in next 2-3 days,” he said.

A warning has been issued advising fishermen not to venture into the sea for the next three days. It is valid till December 11 for fishermen operating in central parts of south Bay of Bengal, and those operating in southwest Bay of Bengal are advised not to venture into sea on December 12-13.

Madras Christian College students protest after Mahima's death, demand sports class be made optional

A day after Mahima Jayaraj, a first-year BSc Chemistry student suddenly collapsed and diedafter a mandatory sports class, around 2000 students of the Madras Christian College are staging a protest in the college premises. The protesting students are seeking a probe into Mahima's death and are demanding that the college authorities make the 'Sports for All' sessions optional.

Even though the college authorities have declared a holiday and canceled all classes for the day after students started protesting, they haven't addressed the students' issues or made an attempt to meet the students. Mahima collapsed and died on Monday, at around 5 pm after doing the mandatory jogging required in the college’s ‘Sports For All’ initiative. The first year students have to spend at least 120 hours on the field to receive two credits needed for completing their degree. Even though she was rushed to the Christudas Orthopaedic Speciality Hospital in Tambaram, she was declared dead on arrival.


"All the student bodies gathered around the college's boxing ring, which is right in front of the Principal's quarters at 9 in the morning," says Chandru D, the SFI Chennai District Secretary. An hour after the protest, the Principal issued a notice stating that classes will not be held after 10.20 am in the morning. "If the college grieves Mahima's death, they should have issued this notice yesterday or earlier this morning. Not after the protest," Chandru says.

A few students had previously alleged that the college authorities didn't let Mahima abstain from the sports class, even after she complained of uneasiness. "The students now want the sports subject to be made optional like it was a few years ago. It is a two-credit course and many students are yet to clear their semester because of this," Chandru says.

Mahima's parents haven't filed a complaint and haven't requested a postmortem.

Zomato fires Madurai man for tampering food packs

MADURAI: After a video clip went viral in the social media where a delivery executive of Zomato seen tampering the food packs that were ordered, eating food and replacing it by resealing them, the Zomato found that the delivery person belongs to Madurai and sacked him.

The video that went viral in the social media for the past two days, an executive in Zomato uniform, stops his two-wheeler on the way to delivery from a restaurant and taking out the foods that were meant to deliver to the customer, tasting one by one and resealing them back into the delivery box again.

After several condemns on the issue, Zomato came back with a press release stating that after a thorough enquiry, the video was shot in Madurai and the delivery executive who tampered the food packs was fired from the job. However, Zomato did not reveal the name of the executive.


Zomato also sought an apology to its customers and said that it maintains a zero tolerance policy for tampering of food. "This particular incident, while unfortunate, only makes our commitment to fleet training, scheduling and process even stronger", the release said.

Considering it as a very serious issue, the online food delivery company stated that it will soon introduce tamper-proof tapes, and other precautionary measures, to ensure an extra layer of safeguard against such behaviour.

Professor dies in accident near Perambalur

A Professor of Horticultural College and Research Institute for Women in Tiruchi died in an accident on Tiruchi-Chennai national highway in Perambalur district on Tuesday.

Police identified the deceased as K. Samiyappan (58), Professor and Head, Department of Plant Protection at the Institute.

Police sources said Samiyappan, along with two other faculty members of the institute, was on a field inspection to Perambalur district at the request of the Horticulture departments of Perambalur and Ariyalur districts to find out the cause of a suspected pest attack in onion crop.

After conducting the inspection in different villages, the trio were headed to Tiruchi in a SUV belonging to the department when the tragedy occurred at Naranamangalam in the evening. The driver lost control of the vehicle, which fell into a roadside ditch. While Samiyappan died in the accident, his colleagues and driver Manikandan escaped with minor injuries. Padalur police have registered a case.
