Trichy airport to get Wifi facility soon

TRICHY: As railways step up to install Wifi system in all stations, the Trichy International Airport has also come up with a similar plan. Airport authorities have sought help from government operator BSNL, for which tenders have been called.

The city airport is undergoing a complete makeover as there has been a spike in number of passengers coming from abroad, said officials. As part of the plan, authorities are introducing Wifi facility at the airport. "The proposal to introduce Wifi at the city airport is in the final stage, and DGCA has given its approval," a senior official said. The service will be similar to the ones provided at other airports in the country as well as in abroad. Passenger can use internet free of cost for the first half-and-hour and should avail a card from Internet Service Provider for further usage of the service, he added. Tenders have been called to enable the airport authorities to procure equipment required for setting up the Wifi facility, said the official. BSNL staffs have been roped in by other organizations for setting up Wifi spots at important places in the region. Thanjavur Big Temple in the delta region was marked as a hotspot, where BSNL will be jointly sharing revenue with the temple authorities.

However for the city airport, the AAI officials will be procuring equipment and revenue will be added to the airport's kitty, with separate officials recruited for it.

10 students turn up late, miss out pre-med exam TNN | Jul 26, 2015, 01.26 AM IST

CHENNAI: At least 10 students missed the All India Pre-medical/dental re-test in the city when they arrived at Ramkuwar Devi Fomra Vivekananda Vidyalaya in Chromepet late and were not allowed in. The news spread when Chromepet resident P Sam saw the nine girls and a boy waiting outside the campus and sent the pictures via WhatsApp to media organisations.

One of the girls said they were stopped at the gates as they turned up at the school on Mahadevan Street in Nehru Nagar a few minutes after 9.30am. "Since the exam doesn't begin till 10 am, we requested that we be allowed in but they didn't oblige," she said.

When contacted, the school authorities said the instructions from CBSE were clear: students have to be seated in the hall at 9.30am. "We have observers from the CBSE and they cautioned us to be strict with timings," they said. A CBSE notification too was issued which stated that 'no candidate who reports after 9.30am would be allowed into the exam hall.'

Those who appeared for the exam said the paper was relatively easier, with most questions straight from the books and the physics paper not as lengthy as last time.

However, the number of students appearing for the re-test at the various centres was lower.

Coaching experts said many chose to go in for engineering or considered other options in medicine. Results for the re-test are expected around mid-August.

Swaraj Sahu of SBOA School in Anna Nagar, who wrote the test at Asan Memorial School, said there were only four people in his classroom as compared to a full class in May.

Others too spoke of a similar experience. Sahu, like many others, said he had a few back-up options as the re-test results may come out just days before academic sessions start in medical colleges.

The security arrangements were intense in all centres. Students were thoroughly frisked and not allowed to carry any valuables, including clips, watches or stationery. Those wearing shoes were asked to go out and return barefoot or with open slippers.

Over 50 students miss medical entrance due to E-way closure

MUMBAI: Several students were not allowed to enter the exam centres of All India Pre Medical Test (AIPMT) after they reached beyond the 9.30am deadline. Over 50 students, who were coming from places like Raigad, Ratnagiri and Pune, complained that they were delayed en route due to the current repairs and diversion along the Mumbai-Pune Expressway.

The Panvel exam centres included St Joseph High School, DAV, and New Horizon in New Panvel. An AIPMT official told TOI: "We had strict instructions to close the gates at 9.30 am. So all students who reached there even a minute late were not allowed inside."

Meanwhile, at two other exam centres — Kendriya Vidyalaya-1, Colaba, and Arya Gurukul, Kalyan — parents lost their cool and had fights with the authorities for not allowing students inside for being late. Moreover, attendance was poor at several exam centres, said school heads.

In all, 6,32,625 candidates were registered for the examination, out of which only 4,22,859 candidates downloaded admit cards. The examination was conducted at 1,065 centres in 50 cities throughout the country and abroad.

At the Kalyan (east) centre, a trustee of Arya Gurukul said seven students came late. "When we didn't allow them in, parents picked up stones and broke the glass of the security cabin, forcing themselves in. We had to call the police," said trustee Bharat Malik.

The parents filed a police complaint against the school for not permitting their wards in. The school, on their part, filed a case of vandalism against parents.

In Colaba too, close to 20 candidates faced the same problem. "We reached at 9.25 am but our wards were not allowed in. The principal said it was past 9.30 am and refused to listen to our pleas," said a parent.

‘Bank cannot freeze account without hearing account holder’

MADURAI: Banks have no authority to freeze the account of an individual who has defaulted in making provident fund (PF) contributions, without giving an opportunity of hearing to him/her, the Madras high court Madurai bench has observed.

The court was hearing a case in connection with PF defaults. It also set aside ans osrdsesrs of the assistant provident fund commissioner (APFC) passed in February, directing the District Central Co-operative Bank Ltd in Thanjavur to pay Rs 5.19 lakh by demand draft from the account of Salaimangalam Primary Agricultural Co-operative Credit Society tos be credited to the account of the regional provident fund commissioner for defaulting in remitting several dues. The APFC also directed the bank not to allow the society to operate its account. Aggrieved by the order, the society had filed the case.

When the matter was heard by Justice S Vaidyanathan, the society said it suffered a loss of Rs 1.5 crore in 2013-14. Due to that reason, the employees could not pay their PF contributions. And it said it did not receive any order from the PFO.

However, the opposite side said the petition was not maintainable since the petitioner could avail the alternative remedy before the authority/tribunal as per the EPF Act.

After hearing, the judge said though the PF side's contention was true, a glance at the impugned order makes it clear that the undated copy of the order had not been forwarded to the petitioner, as the name of the petitioner did not find place in the said order. Thus, the petitioner could not be expected to pursue the appeal remedy.

Besides, without giving an opportunity of hearing to the petitioner, there is no authority for the bank to freeze the account. For the mistake of officer and the bank the petitioner could not be made to run from pillar to post by unnecessarily invoking the alternative remedy of appeal, the judge said.

The judge also said since there is a dispute with regard to the liability, the petitioner should be given an opportunity. Hence, the officer's order is set aside, the judge said.

‘கலங்கரை விளக்கம்’ என்ற இந்த கறுப்பு வெள்ளை திரைப்படம் 1965-ல் வெளிவந்து அமோக வெற்றி பெற்றிருக்கிறது. சரவணா பிலிம்ஸ் ஜி.என். வேலுமணி தயாரிப்பு. இயக்கம் கே. சங்கர். கதை மா. லட்சுமணன். இசை விஸ்வநாதன், ராமமூர்த்தி. பாடல்கள் பஞ்சு அருணாசலம், வாலி, பாரதிதாசன்.

கல்லூரியில் வரலாறு படிக்கும் நீலா (சரோஜா தேவி) சிறு விபத்தில் சித்தம் கலங்குகிறாள். தன்னை ஆடலரசி சிவகாமியாகக் கற்பனை செய்துகொண்டு நரசிம்ம பல்லவ சக்ரவர்த்தியைத் தேடி அடிக்கடி கலங்கரை விளக்கு இருக்குமிடத்துக்கு நள்ளிரவில் செல்கிறார். பெரிய பணக்காரரான அவளுடைய தந்தை, டாக்டர் கோபால் (வி. கோபாலகிருஷ்ணன்) மூலம் சிகிச்சை அளிக்கிறார்.

கோபாலுக்கு உதவியாக அவருடைய சென்னை வழக்கறிஞர் நண்பர் ரவி (எம்.ஜி.ஆர்.) மகாபலிபுரத்துக்குக் காரில் வருகிறார். (நம்பியாரின் உச்சரிப்பில் றெவி) நள்ளிரவில் கலங்கரை விளக்கை நோக்கி ஓடும் நீலாவை, தான்தான் நரசிம்ம பல்லவன் என்று சொல்லி காப்பாற்றி வீட்டுக்கு அழைத்து வருகிறார்.

நீலா இறந்த பிறகு அண்ணனின் சொத்து முழுவதையும் கைப்பற்ற தம்பி நாகராஜன் (நம்பியார்) திட்டமிடுகிறார். அவருக்கு ஒரு காதலி, அந்தக் காதலிக்கு ஒரு தங்கை மல்லிகா (இன்னொரு சரோஜா தேவி). இப்படத்தில் சரோஜா தேவிக்கு இரட்டை வேடமா என்றால் ‘ஆம்’, ‘இல்லை’ என்று சொல்ல முடியவில்லை, கதாசிரியரும் இயக்குநரும் ரொம்பவும் சாமர்த்தியசாலிகள்!

உருவ ஒற்றுமை உள்ள மல்லிகாவை நீலாவாக நடிக்க வைத்து, நீலாவைக் கொன்றுவிட்டு சொத்தை அடையச் செயல்படுகிறார் நம்பியார். இரட்டை வேடப் படங்களில் ஒரு கதாபாத்திரத்தை இரக்கமில்லாமல் கொல்லக் கதாசிரியர்கள் தேர்ந்தெடுக்கும் கோணமே இதுதான்!

மல்லிகா சாதாரணத் தங்கை அல்ல. சென்னை, பெங்களூர் என்று நாட்டிய நிகழ்ச்சிகள் நடத்திக் கலைக்காகச் சேவை செய்கிறார். நீலா கொல்லப்பட்ட பிறகு மல்லிகாவைத் திருமணம் செய்துகொள்ளும் எம்.ஜி.ஆர். அவர் மூலம் உண்மையை வரவழைத்து நம்பியாரைச் சிறைக்கு அனுப்புகிறார். தவறுக்கு உடந்தையாக இருந்ததற்காக மூன்று மாதச் சிறைத் தண்டனை பெற்ற மனைவியை சிறைக்கு அனுப்பி வைக்கிறார்.

கதை முடிச்சு சுவாரஸ்யமாக இருந்தாலும் படத்தின் பிற்பகுதி சவ்வாக இழுக்கிறது. உருவ ஒற்றுமையையும் மனப் பிறழ்வையும் வைத்துக்கொண்டு இன்னும் விறுவிறுப்பான திரைக்கதையை உருவாக்கியிருக்க முடியும். ஆனால், 50 ஆண்டுகளுக்குப் பிறகு, ‘இத்திரைக்கதையில் வலு இல்லை’, ‘வசனங்கள் சுமார்’ என்றெல்லாம் எழுதுவது தர்மமில்லை.

ஒரு பெரிய திருப்பம் வரும் என்று கடைசிவரை எதிர்பார்த்தால், ஆர்.கே. நகர் தொகுதி இடைத் தேர்தல் முடிவு மாதிரி தொடக்கத்திலிருந்தே கணித்துவிடும்படியாக இருக்கிறது.

1965-ல் எம்.ஜி.ஆர் நடிப்பில் வெளியான படங்களில் எங்க வீட்டுப் பிள்ளையும், ஆயிரத்தில் ஒருவனும் பிளாக் பஸ்டர்கள் ஆயின. என்றாலும் அதே ஆண்டில் பணம் படைத்தவன், கன்னித்தாய், தாழம்பூ, ஆசை முகம் ஆகிய படங்களோடு இந்தக் கலங்கரை விளக்கம் படத்திலும் நடித்திருந்தார்.

எம்.ஜி.ஆர். படம் என்றாலும் அவரது ஹீரோயிஸத்துக்கு அதிக இடம் தராத படம். என்றாலும் சண்டைக் காட்சிகளும் இருக்கின்றன. தனக்கேற்ற வேடம் என்று பார்க்காமல் பாத்திரத்தை உள்வாங்கி அதற்கேற்ற நடிப்பை எம்.ஜி.ஆர். தந்திருக்கிறார். அவருடைய முத்திரை களும் ஆங்காங்கே படத்தில் உண்டு.

நகைச்சுவைக்கு நாகேஷ், வீரப்பன், மனோரமா. மகாபலிபுர டூரிஸ்ட் கைடுகளாக வரும் நாகேஷும், வீரப்பனும் சிரிக்க வைக்க முயல்கிறார்கள். எம்.ஜி.ஆருடன் இந்தத் திரைப்படத்தில் சரோஜா தேவிக்கு அடுத்தபடியாக அதிக ‘நெருக்கமாக’ நடித்திருப்பது கோபாலகிருஷ்ணன்தான்!

பாடல்களும் இசையும் ஜீவனுள்ளவை. இப்போது கேட்டாலும் இனிமையாகத்தான் இருக்கின்றன.

‘நான் காற்று வாங்கப்போனேன்.. ஒரு கவிதை வாங்கி வந்தேன்..’ பாடல் எளிய கவித்துவம் மிக்க வரிகளாக பாமர ரசிகனை பண்டித ரசிகனையும் ஒருசேர ஈர்த்தது. இந்தப் பாடலை எழுதியவர் அன்று நிஜமாகவே வாலிபராக இருந்த வாலி. பாரதி தாசனின் ‘சங்கே முழங்கு’ பாடலை சீர்காழி கோவிந்த ராஜனின் மணிக்குரலில் இன்று கேட்டாலும் உடல் சிலிர்க்கிறது.

உணர்ச்சி மிக்க அந்தப் பாடலுக்கு நன்கு இசையமைத்திருந்தாலும், கதாநாயகனே அடிக்கடி ‘நீலா’, ‘நீலா’ என்று அரற்றுவதால் ரசிகர்களும் நிச்சயம் சரோஜா தேவியின் ரியாக்‌ஷன் என்னவென்று அந்தக் காலத்தில் கவனித்துக்கொண்டிருந்திருப்பார்கள். ‘என்னை மறந்ததேன் தென்றலே’, ‘பொன்னெழில் பூத்தது புது வானில்’ ஆகிய பாடல்கள் மெட்டுக்காகவும் பாடல் வரிகளுக்காகவும் மறக்க முடியாதவை. பின்னாளில் தமிழ் சினிமாவில் சாதனைகள் படைத்த வி.சி. குகநாதன் இந்தப் படத்தின் உதவி வசன கர்த்தாவாகப் பணியாற்றியிருக்கிறார். இந்தப் படத்தின் வசனகர்த்தா ஜி.பாலசுப்பிரமணியம்.

50 ஆண்டுகள் கழித்துப் பார்க்கும்போது குறைகள் தெரிந்தாலும் படத்தின் ஆதாரமான தொனியில் இருக்கும் நேர்மையும் எளிமையும் இன்றும் கவர்கின்றன. சாகாவரம் பெற்ற பாடல்கள் படத்தின் சிறப்பு முத்திரை.

பின் குறிப்பு: சங்கே முழங்கு பாடலை வானொலியில் கேட்கும்போதெல்லாம் ஒரு வருத்தம் உண்டு எனக்கு. ‘தமிழ் எங்கள் மூச்சாம்’ என்ற கடைசி வரிதான் நம்மை உணர்ச்சியின் உச்சத்துக்கே கொண்டு செல்வது. இசைத் தட்டில் இசைக் கோர்ப்புக்கேற்ப, ‘தமிழ் எங்கள் மூச்சா……..ம்’ என்று நீட்டித்திருப்பார்கள். ஆகாஷ்வாணியில் அந்த நாளில் இந்தப் பாடலை நான் கேட்கும்போதெல்லாம் ‘மூச்சா….’ என்றே முடித்துவிடுவார்கள். ஒலிபரப்பியவர்களுக்கு என்ன ஆச்சோ...!?

SC dismisses writ plea by Wayanad medical college

The Supreme Court on Thursday held that though citizens have a right to establish institutions to impart medical and technical education, they enjoy no fundamental right to recognition or affiliation of their institutions.

A Bench of Justices M.Y. Eqbal and Arun Mishra clarified the legal position while dismissing writ petitions filed by Kerala-based D.M. Wayanad Institute of Medical Sciences and others.

The petitioners had approached the Supreme Court against the decisions of the Medical Council of India and the Central Government to refuse to recommend renewal of permissions for admitting students for MBBS course at their institute for the academic year 2015-16 following adverse inspection reports.

“From a bare reading of the provision contained in Article 19(1)(g) it is evidently clear that the citizens have been conferred with the right to practice any profession or carry on any occupation, trade or business, but such right is subject to the restriction and imposition of condition as provided under Article 19(6) of the Constitution,” the Bench said.

“Even though (they) have a right to establish institutions for imparting medical and technical education, such right is not a fundamental right,” the Supreme Court bench added.

The Bench quoted from a 1993 judicial case judgment to point out that “education has always been treated in this country as religious and charitable activity and making it commercial is opposed to the ethos, tradition and sensibilities of this nation. A citizen of this country may have a right to establish an educational institution but no citizen, person or institution has a right, much less of fundamental right, to affiliation or recognition”.
