2003-ம் ஆண்டு

மார்க் ஜூகர்பெர்க் ஹார்வேர்டு பல்கலைக்கழகத்தில் மாணவராக இருந்த போது பேஸ்மாஸ் என்று அழைக்கப்பட்ட பேஸ்புக் இணையதளத்தை உருவாக்கினார்.

காப்புரிமை, தனிநபர் சுதந்திரம் ஆகியவற்றில் தலையிடுவதாக இந்த தளத்தினை ஹார்வேர்டு பல்கலைக்கழக நிர்வாகம் மூடியது. மேலும் ஜூகர்பெர்க் மீது நடவடிக்கை எடுத்தது.

2004-ம் ஆண்டு

பிப்ரவரி 4-ம் தேதி `தி பேஸ்புக்’ என்ற வலைதளத்தை தொடங்கினார். தொடங்கப்பட்ட 24 மணி நேரத்தில் 1,500 பயனாளிகள் உறுப்பினராக இணைந்தனர்.

2006-ம் ஆண்டு

13 வயதுக்கு மேல் உள்ள அனைத்து நபர்களும் பேஸ்புக்கில் உறுப்பினராக இணையலாம் என்று நிறுவனம் அறிவித்தது.

2012-ம் ஆண்டு

மே மாதம் பொதுப் பங்கு வெளியீட்டினை பேஸ்புக் மேற்கொண்டது. இதன் மூலம் 1,600 கோடி டாலர் திரட்டியது. அமெரிக்க சரித்திரத்தில் இது மூன்றாவது பெரிய பங்கு வெளியீடாக அமைந்தது.

பேஸ்புக்கின் முகப்பு பக்கத்தில் முதன் முதலில் வைக்கப்பட்ட படம் அல் பாஸினோ. இவர் ஹாலிவுட் நடிகர்.

2014-ம் ஆண்டு வாட்ஸ் அப் அப்ளிகேஷனை 22 பில்லியன் டாலர் மதிப்புக்கு பேஸ்புக் நிறுவனம் வாங்கியது.

பேஸ்புக் மட்டுமல்லாது இன்ஸ்டாகிராம், வாட்ஸ் அப், பிரைவேட் கோர், அக்குலஸ் விஆர் போன்ற சேவைகளையும் வழங்கி வருகிறது.

சமீபத்தில் மார்க் ஜூகர்பெர்க் அறிவித்த அறிவிப்பு ஒன்று எல்லோரையும் ஆச்சரியப்படுத்தியது. மார்க் ஜூகர்பெர்க் பேஸ்புக்கின் 99 சதவீத பங்குகளை தனது தொண்டு நிறுவனத்திற்கு அளித்துவிட்டார். இதன் மதிப்பு 45 பில்லியன் டாலர்.

எம்ஜிஆர் 100 | 85 - 'அடைந்தால் மகாதேவி; இல்லையேல் மரணதேவி'

M.G.R. நடித்த ஆரம்ப கால படங்களில் நம்பியாருக்கும் முன்னதாக வில்லன் வேடங்களில் நடித்தவர் அவர். ‘ஹா...ஹா... ஹா..’ என்ற அதிரடி சிரிப்பிலேயே கலங்கடித்தவர். எம்.ஜி.ஆர். நடித்த ‘சக்கரவர்த்தி திருமகள்’ படத்தில்தான் முதன்முதலாக இந்த இடிச்சிரிப்பை அவர் வெளிப்படுத்தினார். அதற்கு கிடைத்த பலத்த வரவேற்பால், பின்னர், அதுவே அவரது தனி முத்திரை ஆனது. அந்த சிரிப்புக்கு சொந்தக்காரர் பி.எஸ்.வீரப்பா.

1939-ம் ஆண்டு வெளியான ‘மணிமேகலை’ என்ற படத் தில் வீரப்பா அறிமுகமானார். 1946-ம் ஆண்டு ஜூபிடர் பிக்சர்ஸின் ‘ முருகன்’ படத்தில் எம்.ஜி.ஆர். நடித் திருந்தார். அந்தப் படத்தில் வீரப்பாவும் நடித்துள்ளார். அப்போது இருவருக்கும் ஏற்பட்ட நட்பு இறுதிவரை நீடித்தது. எம்.ஜி.ஆரின் கடைசி படமான ‘மது ரையை மீட்ட சுந்தரபாண்டியன்’ உட்பட பல படங்களில் வீரப்பா நடித்துள்ளார்.

எம்.ஜி.ஆர். நடித்த ‘நாம்’ படத்தை ஜூபிடர் பிக்சர்ஸுடன் சேர்ந்து மேகலா பிக்சர்ஸ் நிறுவனம் தயாரித்தது. மேகலா பிக்சர்ஸ் நிறுவனத்தில் கருணாநிதியும் எம்.ஜி.ஆரும் பங்குதாரர்களாக இருந்தனர். படத்துக்கு திரைக்கதை, வசனம் கருணாநிதி. படத் தில் வரும் வில்லன் பாத் திரத்துக்கு வீரப்பாவை எம்.ஜி.ஆர். சிபாரிசு செய்தார். ‘நாம்’ படத்தில் எம்.ஜி.ஆருக்கு முற்போக் கான இளைஞர் வேடம். படத்தில் எம்.ஜி.ஆரின் வீட் டுக்கு வீரப்பா தீ வைத்துவிடுவார். இதில் எம்.ஜி.ஆரின் முகம் உருக்குலைந்து விடும். முகம் பாதிக்கப்பட்டாலும் கண்கள் தெரியும். தீயில் வெந்த முகத் தோடு இரவில் நடமாடும் அவரைப் பார்த்து பேய் நடமாடுவதாக ஊரில் வதந்தி பரவும். எம்.ஜி.ஆரின் அழகான முகத்தை பார்க்கவே ரசிகர்கள் விரும்பு வார்கள் என்பதை இந்தப் படம் உணர்த்தியது. படம் நல்ல கதை யம்சத்துடன் எம்.ஜி.ஆரின் சிறப்பான நடிப்போடு அமைந்திருந்தாலும் அவரை வெந்துபோன முகத்தோடு பார்க்க ரசிகர்கள் விரும்பவில்லை.

வீரப்பாவின் தமிழ் உச்சரிப்பும் ஏற்ற இறக்கத்துடன் அவர் பேசும் பாங்கும் மக்களைக் கவர்ந்தன. எம்.ஜி.ஆர். நடித்து 1957-ம் ஆண்டு வெளியாகி அமோக வெற்றி பெற்ற ‘மகாதேவி’ படத்தில் ‘‘அடைந்தால் மகாதேவி; இல்லையேல் மரணதேவி’’ என்ற வீரப்பாவின் வசனம் இன்றளவும் பிரபலம். அந்தப் படத்தில் வீரப்பாவின் பெயர் கருணாகரன். சந்தர்ப்பவசத்தால், வீரப்பாவின் விருப்பத்துக்கு மாறாக, இளவரசியாக வரும் நடிகை எம்.என்.ராஜத்தை அவருக்கு கட்டாய மாக திருமணம் செய்துவைத்து விடுவார் கள். திருமணம் முடிந்து வீரப்பாவை ‘‘அத்தான்...’’ என்று எம்.என்.ராஜம் அழைப்பார். ஆத்திரத்தை அடக்கியபடி வேதனை கலந்த சிரிப்போடு வேண்டா வெறுப்பாக, ‘‘அப்படிச் சொல்... சத்தான இந்த வார்த்தையிலே கருணாகரன் செத்தான்’’ என்று வீரப்பா கூறும்போது தியேட்டரில் எழும் சிரிப்பலை அடங்க சில நிமிடங்கள் பிடிக்கும்.

படங்களில் வாள் வீச்சில் எம்.ஜி.ஆருக்கு ஈடு கொடுத்து வீரப்பா சண்டையிடுவார். எம்.ஜி.ஆரிடம் உள்ள ஒரு விசேஷ குணம், எந்த பாத்திரத்தில் எந்தக் காட்சியில் நடித்தாலும் சரி, சுற்றிலும் நடப்பவற்றில் ஒரு கண் வைத்திருப்பார். ‘ஜெனோவா’ படத்தில் ஒரு காட்சியில் எம்.ஜி.ஆருக் கும் வீரப்பாவுக்கும் ஆக் ரோஷமான வாள் சண்டை. இந்தக் காட்சியில் நடித்துக் கொண்டிருக்கும்போது, பள்ளத்தில் உருண்டுவிழ இருந்த வீரப்பாவை எம்.ஜி.ஆர். பிடித்து இழுத்து சரியான நேரத்தில் காப்பாற்றியதால் அவர் உயிர் பிழைத்தார். இதை வீரப்பா பலமுறை நன்றி யோடு கூறியுள்ளார்.

‘விக்கிரமாதித்தன்’ படத்தில் வீரப் பாவை கொல்ல வரும் கூட்டத் திடம் இருந்து அவரை எம்.ஜி.ஆர். காப்பாற்றுவார். அதற்கு நன்றி தெரிவித்துவிட்டு எம்.ஜி.ஆரைப் பற்றி வீரப்பா விசாரிப்பார். விவரங்களைத் தெரிந்து கொண்டபின், அவர் சொல் லும் வார்த்தைகளால் தியேட்டரில் எழும் கரவொலியால் காது கிழியும். எம்.ஜி.ஆர். பற்றி வீரப்பா சொல் வார்... ‘‘உலகத்துக்குத் தேவையான மனிதர்!’’

அந்த வசனத்தை உறுதிப்படுத்துவது போல மட்டுமல்ல; தன்னை அவமதிப்ப வர்களை எம்.ஜி.ஆர். எப்படி தண்டிப்பார் என்பதற்கும் ஒரு சுவையான சம்பவம். அவர் சிறிய வேடங்களில் நடித்துக் கொண்டிருந்த காலங்களில் ஜூபிடர் படத் தயாரிப்பு நிறுவனத்துக்கு சொந்த மான நெப்டியூன் ஸ்டுடியோவில் ஒரு படப்பிடிப்பில் கலந்து கொண்டார். எம்.ஜி.ஆருக்கு சிறிய வேடம்.

ஒரு காட்சியில் நடித்து முடித்து விட்டு அடுத்த ‘ஷாட்’டுக்கு கூப்பிடும் வரை வெளியே உட்கார்ந்திருப்பார். எங்காவது சென்றால், தேடும்போது ஆள் இல்லாவிட்டால் வாய்ப்புகள் போய்விடும் என்பதால் இடத்தைவிட்டு நகரமாட்டார். ஒருநாள் அப்படி உட் கார்ந்திருந்தபோது, அந்த ஸ்டுடியோ வில் பணியாற்றிய அப்பன் என்ற பெயர் கொண்ட பணியாளர் ஒருவர், ஒரு கூஜாவையும் டம்ளரையும் எடுத்துக் கொண்டு சென்றார். எம்.ஜி.ஆருக்கு கடுமையான தாகம். பணியாளர் அப்பனைப் பார்த்து, ‘‘அண்ணே, குடிக்க கொஞ்சம் தண்ணி’’ என்று கேட்டார். அதற்கு அப்பன் எரிச்சலுடன், ‘‘இருய்யா, பெரிய நடிகர்களுக்கு ஜூஸ் கொண்டுபோறேன். நீ வேற’’ என்று சொல்லிவிட்டுச் சென்றார். அதன் பின்னரும் எம்.ஜி.ஆருக்கு அவர் தண்ணீர் கொண்டுவரவில்லை.

சில ஆண்டுகளில் எம்.ஜி.ஆர். தமிழ்த் திரையுலகின் நம்பர் ஒன் கதாநாயகனாக உயர்ந்ததோடு, அதே நெப்டியூன் ஸ்டுடியோவையே விலைக்கு வாங்கி அதற்கு தன் தாயின் பெயரை வைத்தார். எம்.ஜி.ஆருக்கு தண்ணீர் கொடுக் காமல் அலட்சியப்படுத்திய பணியாளர் அப்பன், அதே ஸ்டுடியோவில்தான் பணியாற்றி வந்தார். அவ ருக்கு இப்போது எம்.ஜி.ஆர். முதலாளி!

ஸ்டுடியோவில் அப்பனைப் பார்த்த எம்.ஜி.ஆர்., அவரை அருகில் அழைத் தார். பழைய சம்பவங்கள் மனதில் ஓட, ‘வேலை போச்சு’ என்ற நினைப் புடன் கண்கலங்கியபடியே கும்பிட்ட வாறு எம்.ஜி.ஆரிடம் வந்தார் அப்பன். ‘‘உங்களுக்கு எவ்வளவு சம்பளம்?’’ என்று எம்.ஜி.ஆர். கேட்டார். ‘‘இரு நூறு ரூபாய்’’ பலவீனமான குரலில் அப்பனிடம் இருந்து பதில் வந்தது.

‘‘இந்த மாதம் முதல் உங்களுக்கு நானூறு ரூபாய் சம்பளம்’’ என்று அப்பனின் தோள்களைத் தட்டி புன்முறுவலுடன் கூறிய எம்.ஜி.ஆரின் கால்களில் விழுந்து அழுதார் அப்பன். அவரைத் தூக்கி அணைத்தபடி தேற்றினார் எம்.ஜி.ஆர்.!

PUDUKKOTTAI: He resolved to become a doctor after watching his father lose his battle to cancer at a young age. Financial woes engulfed Partheebadasan’s family and his mother took up the mantle of providing for the family. There were many ups and downs along the way and years went by, but the one things that remained constant was Partheebadasan’s resolve to ace the boards to pursue his dreams. And he did it in style.

The Dalit boy scored enough marks in the Plus Two examinations to invite offers from several engineering colleges across the State, but nothing could deter him from his path and he finally ended up in the PSG College at Coimbatore through the Tamil Nadu Single Window Medical Counselling two years ago.

Partheebadasan’s family had little financial foundation and suppport was nowhere on the horizon. It was left to his 45-year-old mother, Padma, to eke out a living by doing odd jobs as an agricultural worker. The work was as unreliable as the weather and there was no guarantee of a stable income. However, Partheebadasan grew up with his two siblings in the small, dingy hut at Adi Dravidar Colony in the panchayat, always making sure that nothing hampered his studies. Partheebadasan desires to become a cardiologist and start a clinic in the panchayat.

PIO card not to be valid after June 30: Indian Embassy-

The Embassy of India in Muscat has said that the cards of Persons of Indian Origin (PIO) will not be valid after June 30.

In a statement, the embassy said, “All concerned are therefore advised to have the PIO cards converted to Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) ones. The procedure for filling the application online for the issuance of OCI card and the supporting documents required for this purpose have been simplified. Only a copy of the valid PIO card and a copy of the current valid passport are now required for the conversion of PIO card to OCI card.”

BENGALURU: A gang from Maddur in Mandya district, which is operating in the city, has been cleaning unsuspecting people’s bank accounts by tracking courier packets which contain bank documents like ATM PINs. The network also includes some insiders in courier firms.

Police came to know about the gang when the cyber crime police were investigating a case where one Yadukumar, a private firm employee, complained of `1.5 lakh being stolen from his bank account. Police have arrested Santosh (30), a native of Maddur and are tracking others who are involved in the racket.

Modus Operandi

Sources said the gang gets jobs for youngsters in courier services and SIM providers. Insiders working with courier companies inform the gang about mails from banks with cheque books, ATM cards and PINs.

The mail is delivered to a gang member and the recipient’s phone number is shared. An insider working at the mobile phone service provider blocks the SIM citing loss of phone as the reason. This is to prevent the recipient from receiving any message about cash withdrawn from his/her bank account.

In case of cheque books, the gang member approaches banks, most of which also have insiders, and withdraw money. The account holder is in the dark for a day or two before the person realises that their account has been emptied. A police official said, “We are yet to ascertain the number of people involved in the racket and the amount of money they have stolen.”

Regulator vetoes plans for 80 medical colleges

New Delhi, June 11: The Medical Council of India has disapproved proposals for over 80 new medical colleges from across the country for want of required infrastructure and launched a faculty census in existing colleges in a move to crack down on ghost faculty.

The MCI, the nation's apex regulator of medical education, has also denied permission to 47 medical colleges to expand their intake of MBBS students during the 2016-17 batch. The colleges had wanted to increase the intake of students entering the first year from 100 to 150, 50 to 150, or 150 to 250.

The Union health ministry has communicated the disapproval for new medical colleges to the institutions across several states, including the Durgapur Institute of Advanced Technology and Management Society, Durgapur, Bengal; the Shree Narayan Foundation, Saharsa, Bihar; and the Shree Lakshmi Ammal Educational Trust, Chennai, Tamil Nadu.

The letters from the health ministry do not cite specific reasons for the disapprovals, but senior medical faculty point out that the MCI would be expected to turn down proposals if colleges do not have the required infrastructure, an adequate number of patients and sufficient faculty.

Sections of medical educationists have long complained that many of India's over 380 medical colleges that have an annual intake of about 50,000 students do not have adequate number of qualified faculty. Doctors involved in the process of inspecting college infrastructure have in the past documented ghost faculty - doctors who pose as faculty in medical colleges only during inspections directed by the MCI.

Such doctors may be faculty in other institutions or doctors involved in private practice.

The MCI earlier this week also asked all medical colleges to furnish details of their faculty for the year 2016-17, asking each faculty member to declare qualifications, experience, details of appointment as faculty and the emoluments they have drawn from their colleges over the past year.

But some doctors believe a catalogue of medical faculty by itself will not be enough to crack down on ghost faculty.

"The MCI has done this earlier - but collecting and uploading faculty details is no solution," said Gurinder Singh Grewal, president of the Punjab Medical Council, who has in the past articulated his concerns about inaction by the MCI on ghost faculty among other issues related to medical education.

The proposals for expansion of intake of students had come from medical colleges from Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Telengana, Uttar Pradesh, among other states. The colleges have been asked to apply for fresh permission to accept students for the batch starting in 2017-18.

A parliamentary panel had earlier this year called for the dismantling of the MCI, saying it had failed to maintain quality standards in medical education and practice. Sections of doctors who have long criticised the functioning of the MCI had last month established a consortium offering to help the government establish an alternative regulatory mechanism to govern medical education and the practice of medicine in the country.

Grewal today urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to introduce strong laws against "medical corruption," which he has described as the "worst form of all corruption".

The doctor, in an open letter sent to the Prime Minister, said medical corruption is going unnoticed because of "misplaced faith" in the medical fraternity.

Grewal has cited exorbitant prices of drugs far above manufacturing costs, cuts and commissions shared by doctors for referring patients to other doctors or institutions, and unnecessary treatment or diagnostic tests as examples of medical corruption.

BENGALURU: Private medical and dental colleges, which last month said they would not share seats with the Karnataka government as the seat-sharing agreement became invalid after NEET came into effect, may now give admission to CET students.

Sources told STOI the managements are ready to share seats for this year."However our association will take a final call."

The first move came from colleges located outside Bengaluru after the government reportedly offered a 5% increase in the NRI quota. At present, the quota is 15%. "Another reason is that the private colleges do not want to antagonize the government and students," the sources said.

Higher education minister TB Jayachandra recently said he would sort out the issue with private colleges by holding a meeting with chief minister Siddaramaiah. "Now the issue may not go to the CM; it will be sorted out at the ministers' level itself,'' the sources said.

On May 30, ComedK and the Karnataka Professional Colleges Foundation had told the government that they would not share MBBS and BDS seats with CET students.

What surprised everyone was the hurriedly convened meeting by minister TB Jayach andra and medical education minister Sharan Prakash Patil with education department officials even as counting for the Rajya Sabha polls was in progress at Vidhana Soudha on Saturday.
