No visa fees for Indians visiting Thailand

The Royal Thai government has launched a temporary tourist visa fee exemption scheme and a temporary Visa on Arrival fee reduction scheme to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between India and Thailand.

Under the first scheme, all applicants applying for a tourist visa (single entry) to Thailand will be exempted from paying the present visa fee of Rs. 2,000 till August 31.

The visa applications can be submitted through VFS Global Services Pvt Ltd (www.vfs-thailand.co.in), according to a press release from the Royal Thai Consulate General.
The fee for Visa on Arrival will be decreased to 1,000 THB from 2,000 THB at the designated immigration checkpoints.

Promotional airfare

Further, Thai Airways International has come out with a promotional airfare. People travelling from Chennai to Bangkok and beyond can book tickets from Rs. 16,000 onwards through the airlines’ website at www.thaiairways.co.in or any local authorised travel agent, the press release said.

Guv's secy asked to produce records in MKU V-C case

The Madurai bench of the Madras high court on Wednesday directed the secretary of the Tamil Nadu governor to produce entire records relating to the appointment of P P Chelladurai as vice-chancellor (V-C) of Madurai Kamaraj University (MKU).

 

A division bench consisting of justices K K Sasidharan and G R Swaminathan gave this direction on a PIL filed by Lionel M Anthony Arulraj saying that the present vicechancellor was not entitled to hold the post for want of basic minimum qualification of 10 years of experience as professor. The bench also ordered notices issued to MKU registrar and the principal secretary of the higher education department and adjourned the case to August 1 for hearing.





NEET state-wise marks delay puts students in a fix

Twenty days after NEET (National Eligibilitycum-Entrance Exam) results were announced and CBSE on Wednesday had yet to release the state-wise breakup of marks. With just a week left to medical counselling in Tamil Nadu, this left students in a quandary , with no idea about the cut-offs or where they stood among the 32,570 qualifiers.

 

The state announced it will reserve 85% of seats for state board candidates, but students like Chennai resident Santhosh G, who scored around 300 marks, are in the dark.

“I'm confident that I'll qualify for admission but not if I can get a government college seat,“ he said. “If I don't qualify, I have to arrange money for a private college. The process has been stressful, especially for those in the 200-300 mark range, as we can't even size up the competition.“
Several others would rather join a reputed engineering college than wait and settle for a low-tier medical college.

A minuscule few, like Arun Kumar, can breathe easy . Having scored 600-plus, he quali fies for all-India counselling despite it being limited to 15% of the available seats. But Arun said most of his friends are anxious ahead of the counselling on July 17.

Neither CBSE nor MCI has published results on a public portal, and the TN health and education departments have been unable to furnish details.

“We are yet to get details on cut-offs and how many students are in various mark ranges,“ an official said.

Postman held in fake passport scam one year before retiring

A day after the Central Crime Branch (CCB) police arrested a head constable in a fake passport scam, a 56-year-old postman has been booked for helping the policeman, Murugan, deliver the passports. The suspect, identified as Dhanasekaran, is employed at the Mount Road post office. He was assigned to deliver letters to Pudupet and Chindatripet. After serving for more than 30 years, he was about to retire in a year's time, police sources said.

CCB police on Monday had arrested K Murugan, 49, attached to the Intelligence wing of Chintadripet police station. His arrest came after the arrest of Ramalingam from Pudukottai, a kingpin in the fake passport scam. Murugan was assigned the job of verifying addresses of passport applicants, but he approved passports without visiting the applicants' houses. He had been taking money from Ramalingam for this, said police.

Preliminary inquires revealed that Murugan took Dhanasekaran's help to get the passports before they were delivered. Dhanasekaran took the passports that came in speed post and gave them to Murugan. The addresses mentioned in these passports were fake, police said. “He was sometimes assigned to hand over the passports directly to Ramalingam, the racket's kingpin. He was paid a sum of `500 to `1,000 for each passport,“ said an investigating officer.

So far, Dhanasekaran has delivered at least 15 passports, which police have found to be fake. Police have grilled a few cops from the intelligence wing, sources said.

மருத்துவம், என்ஜினீயரிங் கலந்தாய்வு தள்ளிப்போகிறது எப்போது நடைபெறும் என்று அறிவிக்க முடியாத நிலை

தமிழகத்தில் எம்.பி.பி.எஸ்., பி.டி.எஸ். ஆகிய மருத்துவ படிப்புகளுக்கான மாணவர் சேர்க்கையில் மாநில திட்டத்தில் படித்த மாணவர்களுக்கு 85 சதவீதமும், சி.பி.எஸ்.சி. உள்ளிட்ட பிறவகை பாடதிட்டத்தில் படித்த மாணவர்களுக்கு 15 சதவீதமும் இட ஒதுக்கீடு வழங்கி தமிழக அரசு அரசாணை பிறப்பித்தது. 

இதை எதிர்த்து பலர் சென்னை ஐகோர்ட்டில் வழக்கு தொடர்ந்தனர். இந்த வழக்கு தொடர்பான இறுதி தீர்ப்பு வரும் வரை மருத்துவ மாணவர் சேர்க்கை நடவடிக்கைக்கு  தடை ஏற்பட்டுள்ளது.

இது குறித்து மருத்துவ கல்வி இயக்குனரக அதிகாரி ஒருவர் கூறுகையில், ‘வருகிற 14-ந்தேதி மருத்துவ தரவரிசை பட்டியல் வெளியிடப்படவும், கலந்தாய்வு 17-ந்தேதியும் தொடங்க இருந்தது. ஆனால் நீதிமன்றத்தில் வழக்கு இருப்பதால் மருத்துவ தரவரிசைப்பட்டியல், கலந்தாய்வு ஆகியவை தள்ளிப்போகிறது’ என்றார். மருத்துவ கலந்தாய்வு தள்ளிப்போவதால் என்ஜினீயரிங் கலந்தாய்வும் தள்ளிப்போகிறது. இரு கலந்தாய்வும் எப்போது நடைபெறும் என்று அறிவிக்க முடியாத நிலை ஏற்பட்டுள்ளது.

நேற்றைய நாள் பெங்களூரு அரசுக் காப்பகத்தில் இருந்த அந்த மூன்று குழந்தைகளுக்கும் தங்களது வாழ்வில் மறக்க முடியாத பொன்னாள் ஆகியது. இந்த மூவருமே அறிவுத்திறன் மற்றும் மூளை வளர்ச்சிக் குறைபாடு உள்ளிட்ட பிரச்னைகள் உடைய குழந்தைகள். இவர்கள் மூவரும் ஓசூர் சாலையில் உள்ள அரசினர் குழந்தைகள் காப்பகத்தில் பல ஆண்டுகளாகப் பராமரிக்கப்பட்டு வருகின்றனர்.

மோனு, ஓம்பிரகாஷ், மற்றும் நீலகண்டா எனும் அந்த மூன்று குழந்தைகளும் தங்களது பெற்றோர் மற்றும் குடும்பத்தினரிடமிருந்து  பல ஆண்டுகளுக்கு முன்பே வெவ்வேறு விதமான காரணங்களுக்காக பிரிய நேர்ந்து பல விதமான சந்தர்பங்களில் தனித்தனியாக கண்டுபிடிக்கப் பட்டு இந்த காப்பகத்தில் ஒப்படைக்கப் பட்டவர்கள். இவர்கள் ஒப்படைக்கப் பட்ட அந்த அரசு காப்பகத்தில் சமீபத்தில் அங்கிருந்த குழந்தைகளுக்கான ஆதார் அடையாள எண் பதிவு நடத்தப் பட்டது. அப்போது இந்த மூன்று குழந்தைகளின் பயொமெட்ரிகள் அடையாளங்கள் அதாவது கண் கருவிழி மற்றும் கை ரேகை அடையாளங்கள் வேறு மாநில குழந்தைகளுடன் ஒத்துப் போகவே இவர்களது ஆதார் பதிவு நிராகரிக்கப் பட்டது. ஆனால் இவர்களது பதிவுகள் ஒத்துப் போன இடங்களில் உள்ள முகவரிகளை ஆராய்ந்ததில் அங்கிருந்த பெற்றோர் குறிப்பிட்ட ஆதார் எண்களுக்கு உரியவர்களான தங்களது குழந்தைகள் நெடுங்காலமாகக் காணவில்லை என்று புகார் அளித்திருந்தமை கண்டுபிடிக்கப் பட்டது. அதையொட்டி அறிவு சார் மூளைத்திறன் வளர்ச்சி குறைந்த மேற்கண்ட மூன்று குழந்தைகளும் அவர்களது பயோமெட்ரிகள் ஆதார் அடையாளங்கள் கண்டறியப்பட்ட முகவரிகளில் இருந்த அவரவர் பெற்றோரிடம் ஒப்படைக்கப் பட்டனர். உண்மையில் இந்திய அரசு ஆதார் அடையாள எண் என ஒன்றை நடைமுறைப்படுத்தியதற்காக பெருமை கொள்ள வேண்டிய தினமாக நேற்றைய தினம் அமைந்தது என்றால் அது மிகையில்லை.
