அடுத்த 24 மணி நேரத்தில் தமிழகம் மற்றும் புதுச்சேரியில் ஓரிரு இடங்களில் இடியுடன் கூடிய மழைக்கு வாய்ப்புள்ளதாக சென்னை வானிலை ஆய்வு மையம் தெரிவித்துள்ளது.

இதுகுறித்து வானிலை மைய அதிகாரிகள் கூறியது: வெப்பச் சலனம் காரணமாக அடுத்த 24 மணி நேரத்தில் தமிழகம் மற்றும் புதுச்சேரியில் ஓரிரு இடங்களில் இடியுடன் கூடிய மழைக்கு வாய்ப்புள்ளது. சென்னையைப் பொருத்தவரை வானம் மேகமூட்டத்துடன் காணப்படும். மாலை அல்லது இரவு நேரங்களில் நகரின் சில இடங்களில் மழை அல்லது இடியுடன் கூடிய மழை பெய்யும்.
மழை அளவு : ஞாயிற்றுக்கிழமை காலை 8.30 மணியுடன் முடிவடைந்த 24 மணி நேரத்தில் அதிகபட்சமாக கோவை மாவட்டம் வால்பாறையில் 60 மி.மீ., சின்னக்கல்லாறில் 50 மி.மீ., நீலகிரி மாவட்டம் தேவாலா, நடுவட்டம், ஜி பஜார் மற்றும் திருவள்ளூர் மாவட்டம் பொன்னேரியில் தலா 30 மி.மீ. மழை பதிவானது. தஞ்சை மாவட்டம் பாபநாசம், தென்காசி, கடலூர், செங்கோட்டை, போச்சம்பள்ளி, சீர்காழி, அரக்கோணம், செங்குன்றம், மயிலம், திருவாரூர் உள்ளிட்ட தமிழகத்தின் பல்வேறு பகுதிகளில் பரவலாக மழை பெய்துள்ளது.

இந்த நிலையில் ஈரோட்டில் இன்று செய்தியாளர்களிடம் பள்ளி கல்வித்துறை அமைச்சர் கே.ஏ. செங்கோட்டையன் கூறியதாவது:வேலை நிறுத்தப் போராட்டத்தை நடத்த இருக்கும் அரசு ஊழியர்கள், ஆசிரியர்களுடன் பேச்சுவார்த்தை நடத்தப்படும். இந்த ஆண்டு 11-ம் வகுப்பு மாணவர்கள் பொதுத்தேர்வு எழுதுகின்றனர்.அந்த மாணவர்கள் பாதிக்காத வகையில் ஆசிரியர்கள் நடந்து கொள்ள வேண்டும்.

Unscheduled, frequent power cuts hit routine of Mugalivakkam residents

CHENNAI: Residents of Kamakshi Nagar, Mugalivakkam, have been experiencing power cuts for at least an hour almost every day; that is attributed to the overloaded distribution transformer in the locality.

Said a resident of 25 years, Sarasu S, whose husband runs a mechanic shop near the transformer, “Fiery sparks from the transformer is very common and accompanied by the sound of an explosion. We are worried that it may lead to fire hazards or injuries.”

Residents in the locality, especially in Kamakshi Nagar along with neighbouring Sabari Nagar and Sriram Nagar, which together accommodate over 200 houses, say the frequent power cuts have been persisting for several years now.

“The power cuts are unscheduled and happen during peak hours when they disrupt the routine in most households,” said Shivani S, a resident.

Though transformers are usually designed to recognise a spike in energy and turn off accordingly, they may not be able to always do so in time to prevent an overload.

Said Kanchana Srinivasan, a resident who also runs a beauty salon in the area, “I have been running a beauty parlour in Kamakshi Nagar for the last three years and have been residing in Sriram Nagar for the last 14 years. The power outage here is much higher when compared to other parts of the city.”

“Apart from the usual maintenance power cuts, every day the power is out at least four or five times a day, taking more than an hour to be restored each time. My parents often refuse to stay in our apartment because of the power cuts during the night,” she added.

According to a TANGEDCO official, the frequent power cuts are due to the roads being dug up by other government and private agencies.

"They keep digging the roads and in the process damaging the underground power cables. The transformer is not overloaded,” he said.

Chennai: The website of Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) upon which hundreds of everyday commuters depend, has been receiving criticism from the passengers for displaying wrong information. Its age-old design is also not user-friendly.

MTC operates ordinary, express, deluxe, Volvo and small buses out of which small bus route numbers are prefixed with the letter ‘S’. But the database of the website is wrong as most of the regular routes are also prefixed with “S”, thereby confusing commuters.

“About 50 buses are wrongly prefixed with ‘S’. For example, the regular bus route 47A from Besant Nagar to ICF is mentioned as S47A and the regular route 7E is prefixed as S07E from Broadway to Ambattur Estate,” said Murali Krishna, a student. Also, the fares mentioned in the website according to stages are not followed in all the buses, so even this is ultimately confusing the commuters.

Another major issue is the bus timings. Karthik Kumar, a resident of T. Nagar said, “It must have been more than five years since the website has had any changes incorporated. With changed road patterns due to ongoing metro construction and increased traffic, the timings are at least 30 minutes adrift of what is mentioned on the website. My online complaint on this issue went unanswered.”

MTC also invested in a facility like GPS to reflect actual bus operations, but has failed to provide such real-time information for a few years now. Moreover, an MTC insider said there were only 3,688 buses as of May 31, 2017, but the website mentions it as 3,964. In 2016, when there were only around 3,600 buses, the website showed 4,032 buses, he alleged.

When contacted, an official of MTC said the database error would soon be corrected but he was vague on the number of buses in operation.
