Student petitions against PM Narendra Modi’s bullet train

In 24 hours, 4,327 people had signed her petition.As the stampede fuelled anger against the Centre’s bullet train project between Mumbai and Ahmedabad, Shreya Chavan, a twelfth standard student from the city, filed a petition to the Prime Minister Narendra Modistating “We don’t want Bullet trains, we need better Railways”.

Anguished by the death of a 17-year-old junior college student after falling off the local train on September 20, Chavan said, “We decided to take up the issue then (after the student’s death). If students are not able to travel to college by trains then what is the point of a bullet train,” asks Chavan, an arts student of Ruia college.

“Statistically speaking, nine people die every day on the tracks of Mumbai. Under this scenario the funding used for the not needed Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train should be invested in improving the conditions of Mumbai local trains,” reads the petition, also addressed to Railway Minister Piyush Goyal and Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis, on Change.org.

Chavan, along with her friend Tanvi Mhapankar, decided to take up the issue after one of their friends lost her life in a rail accident 10 days back.

Maitri Shah, a 17-year-old student from Mithibai College, died on her way back home to Vasai 10 days back after falling off the train between Borivali and Dahisar. After the tragedy at Elphinstone Road station on Friday, the girls decided it was time to take up the matter and filed their petition on the online platform.

Aadhaar-phone linkage a nightmare

Consumers question why private service providers insist on registering biometric details

Linking of Aadhaar numbers with various services continues to be a troubling task to the public. The latest being linking it with mobile phone numbers. In some cases, the fingerprints don’t seem to match, especially those of senior citizens.

Also, consumers are feeling uncomfortable with sharing their biometric data with private service providers. Ecologist and senior citizen Sultan Ahmed Ismail, who narrated a bitter experience at the showroom of a private service provider in Adyar, said even a complaint with their customer care did not help.

“I have linked my bank account, PAN card, family card and LPG ID with Aadhaar but I was not asked to share my fingerprints with any of these agencies, only my Aadhaar number. What right does a private agency have over my data and how safe is it with them,” he wondered, adding that the entire procedure had to be scrapped.

Fingerprint mismatch

Several senior citizens complained that the fingerprints taken to register for services did not match with those taken during Aadhaar number registration. Eighty-three old G. Ramamoorthy said some senior citizens were provided Aadhaar cards without biometric data as their fingerprints had vanished due to ageing. It was difficult to link mobile numbers without fingerprints for senior citizens.

Senior citizens like S.M. Chellaswamy, resident of Gopalapuram, expressed concern over misuse of such personal details. “It is enough that the telecom service providers seek Aadhaar number to link mobile numbers,” he said. Several people complained that they had to visit the customer care centres at least twice before their mobile numbers were linked with Aadhaar numbers due to various reasons.

V. Rajagopal of Anna Nagar West, said, “My neighbour had to visit twice the customer care office as the device failed to recognise his fingerprints. I was told the server was down twice and had to return for fear of disconnection of service.”

Misuse of data

Despite providing Aadhaar details to replace ration cards with smart cards, Mr. Rajagopal has got many details such as his name wrong in the smart card. “I am also concerned about misuse of data as I get calls seeking my personal details for mobile phone connections,” he added.

Consumer activist T. Sadagopan raised the issue of Aadhaar numbers getting linked with mobile wallets and LPG subsidy being credited to them.

“When we complained to the LPG agency, they asked us to cancel link with the bank account and connect it with such mobile wallets. I am not sure whether banks will agree to do such things,” he said.

M.R. Krishnan, deputy director of Consumers Association of India, said the demand by private mobile phone providers for fingerprints was tantamount to intrusion into the privacy of an individual. “Unfortunately, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India has permitted them to do so without any proper mechanism. We will write to them asking for a review,” he said.

Official sources in the Census Department said that biometric data of close to 7.3 crore residents of Tamil Nadu had been completed so far. Aadhaar coverage was now crossing seven crore since children in the age group of 0 -5 years were also being included.

Asked about issues with finger impressions when linking Aadhaar with mobile numbers, he said that usually the best of three impressions was taken and even when that does not match, iris matching was done. If everything failed then there was always the allowance under exceptional circumstances, he said adding that in some cases the biometry had to be repeated at the Aadhaar centres.

CHENNAI: Southern Railwayhas announced six special trains to clear extra rush. Advance reservations will commence at 8am on Monday.

The trains are: Train No 06001 Chennai Egmore-Tirunelveli special fare special train will leave Chennai Egmore at 9.05pm on October 6. In the return direction, Train No.06002 Tirunelveli-Chennai Egmore special fare special train will leave Tirunelveli at 2.45pm on October 8 and reach Chennai Egmore at 3.45am the next day.

Train No 06005 Chennai Central-Ernakulam Junction special fare special train will leave Chennai Central at 10.30pm on October 6. Train No 06006 Ernakulam Junction-Chennai Central special fare special train will leave Ernakulam Junction at 7pm on October 8 and October 15 and reach Chennai Central at 7.20am the next day.

Train No.82601 Chennai Egmore-Tirunelveli Suvidha special train will leave Chennai Egmore at 9.05pm on October 13. Train No.82631 Chennai Central-Ernakulam Junction Suvidha special train will leave Chennai Central at 10.30pm on October 13, said a press release.

நாடு முழுவதும் 5 வயதுக்கு மேற்பட்ட அனைவருக்கும் 12 இலக்க எண் கொண்ட ஆதார் அடையாள அட்டை வழங்கப்பட்டு வருகிறது. காஸ் இணைப்பு, வங்கி கணக்கு, வருமான வரி கணக்கு எண், ரேஷன் கார்டு உள்ளிட்ட பல்வேறு ஆவணங்களுடன் ஆதார் இணைக்கப்பட்டு வருகிறது. இதன் மூலம் ஒருவர் பல்வேறு நலத்திட்டங்களின் கீழ் உதவி பெறுவதை தடுக்கவும், வரி ஏய்ப்பை தடுக்கவும் மத்திய அரசு பல்வேறு நடவடிக்கைகளை எடுத்து வருகிறது.ஒருவரது கண் கருவிழி, விரல் ரேகைகள் பதிவு செய்யப்படும் ஆதாரில் போலிகள் நுழைய முடியாது என்பதால் பல்வேறு அரசு அலுவல்களுக்கும் ஆதார் அட்டை கட்டாயமாக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.

20 சதவீதம் அதிகரிக்கும் 

தமிழக அரசில் ஓய்வூதியம், குடும்ப ஓய்வூதியம் பெறுபவர்கள் 80 வயதை தாண்டினால் அவர்களது வயது மற்றும் மருத்துவச் செலவு ஆகியவற்றை கருத்தில் கொண்டு 20 சதவீதம் ஓய்வூதியம், குடும்ப ஓய்வூதியம் கூடுதலாக வழங்கப்பட்டு வருகிறது. இதற்காக தான் வயது சான்றிதழ் கட்டாயமாக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது என்பது குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது.

அரசு ஊழியர்களிடம் பிடித்தம் செய்த புதிய ஓய்வூதிய தொகை விபரங்களை இணையத்தில் தெரிந்து கொள்ளலாம்

திண்டுக்கல்: புதிய ஓய்வூதிய திட்டத்திற்காக அரசு ஊழியர்களுக்கு சேர வேண்டிய தொகை 18,016 கோடி பொதுக்கணக்கில் வைக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. இணையத்தில் இதுகுறித்து தெரிந்து கொள்ளலாம் என்று நிதித்துறை தெரிவித்துள்ளது. கடந்த 2003 ஏப்ரல் முதல் தேதியில் இருந்து அரசு ஊழியர்களுக்கான ஓய்வூதிய திட்டத்தில் மாற்றம் செய்யப்பட்டது. இதன்படி அரசு ஊழியர்கள் பங்களிப்புடன் கூடிய ஓய்வூதிய திட்டத்தில் (சிபிஎஸ்) சேர்க்கப்பட்டனர். இதற்காக ஒவ்வொரு பணியாளர்களிடம் இருந்து அடிப்படை ஊதியம் மற்றும் அகவிலைப்படியில் 10 சதவீதம் பிடித்தம் செய்யப்படுகிறது. இதற்கு சமமான தொகையை அரசு தன்பங்காக செலுத்துகிறது.

இருப்பினும் ஓய்வு பெற்றோர், பணி நீக்கம் செய்யப்பட்டோர், கட்டாய ஓய்வு பெற்றோர், இறந்த ஊழியர்கள் பலருக்கும் இத்தொகை வழங்கப்படவில்லை. தகவல் அறியும் உரிமைச்சட்டத்தில் கேட்டும் உரிய பதில் கிடைக்காத நிலையே இருந்து வந்தது. இதனால் இத்திட்டத்தின்மீது ஊழியர்களுக்கு பெரும் சந்தேகம் ஏற்பட்டது. இத்தொகை இலவச பேன், மிக்சி, கிரைண்டர் வழங்குவதற்காக செலவிடப்பட்டு விட்டது. ஓய்வூதிய ஒழுங்காற்று ஆணையத்திடம் இத்தொகை செலுத்தப்படவே இல்லை. மாதம் 10 சதவீத சம்பளத்தை இழந்து வந்ததுடன், தங்களிடம் பிடித்தம் செய்த பணம் என்ன ஆயிற்று என்று தெரியாமல் ஊழியர்களிடையே பெரும் குழப்பமும் நிலவி வந்தது.

இந்நிலையில் நிதித்துறை அரசு கூடுதல் தலைமை செயலாளர் அலுவலகம் செய்திக்குறிப்பு ஒன்றை வெளியிட்டுள்ளது. அதில் தெரிவிக்கப்பட்டிருப்பதாவது: கருவூல கணக்குத்துறை, அரசு தகவல் தொகுப்பு விபர மையத்தின் உதவியுடன் இக்கணக்குகள் பராமரிக்கப்பட்டு வருகின்றன. கடந்த மார்ச் மாத நிலவரப்படி சுமார் 4 லட்சத்து 62 ஆயிரத்து 327 அரசு, உள்ளாட்சி, கல்வி நிறுவன பணியாளர்களின் பங்களிப்புத்தொகை, அரசின் பங்களிப்புத் தொகை மற்றும் வட்டி உட்பட மொத்தம் 18,016 கோடி பொதுக்கணக்கில் வைக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. கணக்குத்தாள் அரசு இணையத்தில் ஒவ்வொரு பணியாளரும் இதுகுறித்து தெரிந்து கொள்ளலாம். ஓய்வு பெற்ற, இறந்த ஊழியர்கள் 3,288 பேருக்கு வழங்க வேண்டிய தொகை 125.24 கோடி வழங்க அனுமதிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.

புதுடில்லி: தலைநகர் டில்லியில், ஹெல்மட் அணியாமல் கிரீடம் அணிந்து பைக்கில் சென்ற ராவணன் வேட நடிகருக்கு போலீசார் அபராதம் விதித்தனர்.புதுடில்லியில் உள்ள செங்கோட்டையில், ஆண்டுதோறும் நவராத்திரியை ஒட்டி ராம்லீலா நிகழ்ச்சி நடத்தப்படும். இதில், ராவணன் வேடத்தில் நடித்த முகேஷ் ரிஷி, ராவணன் தோற்றத்தில் கிரீடம் அணிந்தபடி டில்லி சாலைகளில் பைக்கில் பயணம் செய்தார். இந்த படம் சமூக வலை தளங்களில் வெளியானது. இதையடுத்து போக்குவரத்து போலீசார் நோட்டீஸ் அனுப்பினர். போக்குவரத்து போலீஸ் அலுவலகத்திற்கு நேரில் சென்ற முகேஷ் ரிஷி, அபராதத்தை செலுத்தினார் என உயர் அதிகாரி ஒருவர் தெரிவித்தார்.
