தமிழகத்தில் மூன்றாவது நாளாக தொடரும், ஐ.டி ரெய்டால் காவல்துறையினர் கடுப்பில் உள்ளனர்.

சசிகலா, தினகரன் குடும்பம் மற்றும் சம்பந்தப்பட்டவர்களிடம், இன்று மூன்றாவது நாளாக ரெய்டு தொடர்ந்து நடந்து வருகிறது. 187 இடங்களில் தொடங்கிய ரெய்டு, தற்போது 40 இடங்களில் நடைபெற்றது. நீலகிரி மாவட்டம், கர்சன் எஸ்டேட்டில் இன்று தொடர்ந்து சோதனை நடைபெற்றது. குறிப்பாக, கொடநாடு எஸ்டேட் மேலாளர் நடராஜனிடம் அதிகாரிகள் தீவிர விசாரணை நடத்தினர்.

அதேபோல கோவையில், தொழிலதிபர்கள் ஆறுமுகசாமி, சஜீவன் சம்பந்தப்பட்ட இடங்களில் இன்று தொடர்ந்து ரெய்டு நடைபெற்றது. அவிநாசி சாலையில் உள்ள ஆறுமுகசாமிக்கு சொந்தமான வணிக வளாகத்திலும், போத்தனூரில் உள்ள சஜீவன் வீட்டிலும் ரெய்டு நடைபெற்றது.

இந்த ரெய்டால் சம்பந்தப்பட்டவர்கள் எரிச்சல் ஆவது இயல்புதான். ஆனால், காவல்துறையையும், இந்த ரெய்டு கடுப்பேற்றியுள்ளது. தொடர்ந்து மூன்றாவது நாளாக, போலீஸ் பாதுகாப்புடன்தான் ரெய்டு நடத்தப்பட்டு வருகிறது. இதனால், சில காக்கி சட்டைகள் கடுப்பில் உள்ளனர்.

கோவையில், பாதுகாப்புப் பணியில் ஈடுபட்டுள்ள போலீஸில் சிலர் நம்மிடையே, "நல்லா சாப்பிட்டு, நிம்மதியா தூங்கி மூணு நாள் ஆகுது. இந்த ரெய்டு நாள எதுவுமே பண்ண முடியல. சீக்கரம் முடிஞ்சா பரவாயில்ல" என்றனர் கடுப்பாக.

குமரன் நகர், நவ. 12-ஏ.டி.எம்., மையத்தில், 'ஸ்கிம்மர்' கருவியை பொருத்தி, வங்கி வாடிக்கையாளர்களின் ரகசிய தகவல்களை திருடி பணம் கொள்ளை அடிக்க முயற்சி நடந்துள்ளது.சென்னை, மேற்கு மாம்பலம், கோவிந்தன் சாலையில், கனரா வங்கியின், ஏ.டி.எம்., மையம் அமைந்துள்ளது.சிறிய கேமராநேற்று மாலை, இந்த, ஏ.டி.எம்.,மில் பணம் நிரப்ப, வங்கி ஊழியர்கள் சென்றனர். அப்போது, ஏ.டி.எம்.,மில் ஸ்வைப் செய்யும் கருவியுடன், 'ஸ்கிம்மர்' கருவி பொருத்தப்பட்டுள்ளது கண்டு பிடிக்கப்பட்டது. இந்த ஸ்கிம்மர் எனும் கருவியை, ஏ.டி.எம்., கார்டு ஸ்வைப் செய்யும் கருவியுடன் இணைத்து, ரகசிய எண் பதிவு செய்யும் இடத்தில் சிறிய கேமராவை பொருத்தும் மர்ம நபர்கள், வாடிக்கையாளரின் தகவல்களை திருடி, ஏ.டி.எம்., கார்டுகளை க்ளோனிங் செய்து, பணம் திருடி வருகின்றனர்.சம்பவ இடத்திற்கு வந்த வங்கி மேலாளர், ஸ்கிம்மர் கருவி மற்றும் ரகசிய எண் தெரிய, ஏ.டி.எம்.,மில் பொருத்தப்பட்டிருந்த கேமராவை பறிமுதல் செய்து, குமரன் நகர் காவல் நிலையத்தில் ஒப்படைத்தனர்.இது குறித்து வழக்கு பதிந்த போலீசார், ஏ.டி.எம்.,மில் ஸ்கிம்மர் கருவியை பொருத்திய மர்ம நபர்கள் குறித்து விசாரித்து வருகின்றனர்.சிக்கல்ஏ.டி.எம்.,மில் இருந்த மூன்று கண்காணிப்பு கேமரா பதிவை ஆய்வு செய்ததில், அவை பழுதடைந்துள்ளதால், ஸ்கிம்மர் பொருத்திய, மர்ம நபர்கள் கண்டுபிடிப்பதில் சிக்கல் நிலவி வருகிறது.மேலும், வாடிக்கையாளர்கள் வங்கி கணக்கில் இருந்து பணம் திருடப்பட்டுள்ளதா எனவும் போலீசார் விசாரித்து வருகின்றனர்.

Another case of matrimonial fraud, victim files complaint.

Chennai: A 33-year-old man was arrested by the cyber crime wing of the city police on Saturday for impersonating and cheating women of several lakhs through matrimonial sites.

In September, a divorcee with an autistic child approached the city police commissioner's office seeking action against an ortho surgeon from the US. The woman had registered her name in one of the matrimonial websites through which the accused contacted her.

“He identified himself as Dr Prashanth Prasad, an ortho surgeon living in USA. He invited me and my son to USA to take the marriage proposal forward claiming that he was occupied with work and couldn't come to India,” the woman mentioned in her complaint.

The man suggested the woman apply for a fiancée visa (K1/K2 visa) and on the pretext of helping her with the process, he usurped Rs 11.5 lakh from her, police said.

The woman never got the visa and when she started questioning him about it, he kept on dodging her and subsequently cut off the contacts with the woman.

Realising that she had been taken for a ride, the woman approached the police, after which special teams were formed to investigate the case. During the course of the investigation, police found out that the man who posed himself as an ortho surgeon is a resident of Guduvanchery near Chennai.

He had cheated several women impersonating himself as Dr Prashanth, Gowtham, George among many names, police said. His original name is R. Kumar Durai. He was produced before the Alandur judicial magistrate and remanded in judicial custody. Police advised the public to exercise caution while dealing with strangers through matrimonial websites.

After uproar, Pune University removes vegetarian condition for gold medalist

Pune: After the backlash on social media, the Savitribai Phule Pune University has decided not to confer the gold medal given in the name of Ramchandra Shelar till his family removes the condition that only those students who are vegetarian and teetotallers, can apply for the honour.

When the varsity posted a circular on its website recently, listing the eligibility criteria of the now scrapped gold medal, it was met with sheer outrage. But the backlash seems to have taught them a lesson as they omitted the medal prize from the website in a bid to assert that the institution has taken steps to undo their action.

Professor (Dr) Nitin R. Karmalkar, Vice-Chancellor, said that the sponsors of the Maharishi Keertankar Shelar Mama Gold medal are the Shelar family. “And their traditions keep them from indulging in non-vegetarian food and alcohol. The Shelar family, in honour of Maharishi Keertankar Shelar, started the medal back in 2006. And they wanted it just so,” he said. He said, “Now, with the consent of the Shelar family, we will be annulling the scholarship,” he said.

Monsoon active again, city to get rain until Wednesday

Chennai: The northeast monsoon is once again active and is expected to bring rain to the city until Wednesday. The met office has predicted about 2cm-6cm of rain on Sunday.

Weather blogger Pradeep John said, "This will be the second spell of the northeast monsoon. Usually one spell brings rainfall for only 3-4 days, but the first spell had brought rainfall for nine days." Rainfall will be concentrated in the coastal districts, particularly in the stretch connecting Chennai and Nagapattinam.

The city will get intermittent showers on Sunday, said area cyclone warning centre director S Balachandran. Most parts of north coastal TN and some parts of south coastal TN will get rainfall on Sunday. Isolated rainfall will occur in the interior districts.

Some spells will bring heavy (7-11cm) or very heavy rainfall (12-20cm) in Chennai, Kanchipuram and Tiruvallur, said Pradeep John.

According to an IMD bulletin, a fresh low pressure area is likely to form over southeast Bay of Bengal around Tuesday.

Since October, Tamil Nadu has received 25cm, against the normal of 26cm. Chennai however has recorded excess rainfall, receiving 68cm against the normal of 41cm.

The combined level of the four drinking water reservoirs at Chembarambakkam, Poondi, Redhills and Cholavaram is currently 37% of the total capacity.

The met office has forecast a maximum and minimum temperature of 29°C and 24°C on Sunday.

Sekhar Reddy moves HC to quash money laundering case

CHENNAI: Sand mining baron Sekhar Reddy and his associate Srinivasulu have approached the Madras high court to quash the enforcement directorate (ED) proceedings under Prevention of Money Laundering (PML) Act. The matter is pending before the principal sessions court in Chennai. Admitting their plea, Justice M S Ramesh has directed the ED to file their reply by two weeks.

The criminal proceedings were initiated by the ED under PMLA, after income tax department seized 34 crore unaccounted money in new denomination notes of 2,000 and gold worth several crore in December 2016.

According to the petitioners, though no offence had been made out against them, ED, without following any due procedure of law and relying on the investigations done by the other agencies, initiated criminal proceedings under PML Act. Claiming that the case is vitiated, illegal and void, they submitted that the complaint filed by the ED was without jurisdiction, premature and ultra vires the provisions the Act.

"The CBI is yet to either identify the involvement of the alleged bank officials or prima facie make out an offence or file a charge sheet for the allegations of conversion of the old currency notes into the new denomination notes," they said. Asserting that they had not indulged in conversion of old currency notes into new currency notes, they added that even otherwise it is not an offence declared under any law.

Bar council prohibits 742 lawyers from practising

Chennai: More than 700 lawyers who did law after foundation degrees obtained through open university system cannot practice in courts, as the state bar councilhas issued them prohibitory orders.

The Bar Council of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry issued orders to a total of 742 advocates, and made it clear that they could not practice law pending disposal of show cause notices to be issued against them. A communication issued by the council's secretary C Raja Kumar said a special committee of the council had passed a resolution to this effect at its meeting on November 9.

The decision was made, as the enrolment 742 advocates are against Rule 5 of the Legal Education Rules, 2008 and in the light of the order passed by the Madras high court on October 25. TNN
