சென்னை: பொங்கல் பண்டிகையை முன்னிட்டு சென்னை எழும்பூர் ரயில் நிலையத்தில் இருந்து நெல்லை வரை செல்லும் சுவிதா எக்ஸ்பிரஸ் ரயில் ஜன., 5, 11, 12, 13, 19 மற்றும் 25 ஆகிய தேதிகளில் இரவு 9.50 மணிக்கு புறப்படுகிறது. நெல்லையில் இருந்து எழும்பூருக்கு ஜன. 7,28 ஆகிய தேதிகளில் பிற்பகல் 3 மணிக்கு சிறப்பு ரயில் அறிவிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. இந்த அறிவிப்பை தெற்கு ரயில்வே நிர்வாகம் வெளியிட்டுள்ளது.

Doctor who embalmed Jaya’s body deposes before panel

CHENNAI: Dr Sudha Seshayyan, a government doctor who carried out the embalming procedure to preserve former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa’s body, deposed before the inquiry commission looking into the death of the late leader on Wednesday.

Dr Sudha Seshayyan, vice-principal of Madras Medical College, appeared before retired judge A Arumughaswamy, who is heading the commission. Later, she told mediapersons that she had given a detailed account of how embalming procedure was done on Jayalalithaa’s body. The 15-to-20 minute procedure was to prevent the body from decomposing.

Meanwhile, the counsel for Apollo Hospitals chief Dr Pratap C Reddy and his daughter Preetha Reddy appeared before the commission and sought more time to file their responses. The commission has granted them time till January 12.

Evaluator shortage cripples Bangalore University; salaries may be held back

BENGALURU: After being delayed due to protests staged by UGC teachers, the evaluation work of Bangalore University is now facing another problem - shortage of evaluators.As per the data available from Bangalore University examination department, 50 per cent of the teachers are not attending the ongoing evaluation work. The university has now issued a warning that it will submit a report to the Department of Collegiate Education asking to withhold the salaries of teachers from government and aided colleges.

Dr Shivaraj, registrar evaluation of Bangalore University, told Express, “It has become really difficult for us to continue the evaluation work as half of the eligible teachers from government and aided colleges are not taking part.”According to university authorities, the shortage of evaluators is more for English subject. The highest number of scripts that need to be evaluated are in the English subject (2 lakh). This is followed by Commerce courses. “We have no issues with Kannada as there is 100 per cent attendance for this subject. But when it comes to English language and Commerce subjects, we are falling short of teachers. If this continues, then the evaluation work will be delayed further and this in turn will affect the announcement of results and reopening of classes for the next semester,” Shivraj said.

The Karnataka State Universities Act 2000 and also the Examination Ordinance of Bangalore University 2011 mandates evaluation for all lecturers.“I have written letters to the principals of all private colleges asking them to send eligible faculty members for evaluation work. On Thursday, I will meet the commissioner for collegiate education and submit a representation requesting to withhold the salaries of those faculty members who are not attending the evaluation work,” Shivraj added.University authorities said that some private colleges have scheduled to reopen classes for the next semester in violation of the university calender and in such cases action will be initiated.

MUMBAI: Police have recorded the statement of the owner of Kamala Mills Compound, where a massive fire broke out last week, killing 14 people, an official said today.

The statement of Ramesh Govani, the owner of Kamala Mills Compound, was recorded yesterday by a team from the N M Joshi Marg police station in connection with the fire, he said.
Govani has been accused of violating the norms of the Maharashtra Regional Town Planning (MRTP) Act.

"We have recorded the statement of Ramesh Govani for violation of the MRTP Act norms," Ahmad Pathan, Senior Police Inspector of N M Joshi Marg, told PTI.
Earlier, the police had summoned him for questioning in connection with the case registered against him, another official said.

Apart from the MRTP Act case, the police asked him questions in connection with the fire incident at `1Above' and Mojo's Bistro pub, housed in Kamala Mills, where 14 people were killed and more than 21 injured on December 29, another official said.

On Sunday, the police recorded the statement of Yug Pathak, son of a retired IPS officer and owner of Mojo's Bistro in Kamala Mills, which was gutted in the fire, he said.
The main accused in the case - 1Above pub owners Kripesh, Jigar Sanghavi and Abhijeet Mankar - are still at large.

On Monday, the police arrested two persons - Kevin Bawa and Libson Lopez - who worked as managers at 1Above pub.

They were booked under IPC sections 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), 337 (causing hurt by an act endangering life or personal safety of others) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention), the police had said.
