ராஜீவ் காந்தி கொலை வழக்கில் சிறையில் உள்ள முருகன், நளினி, பேரறிவாளன் உள்பட 7 பேரையும் விடுதலை செய்ய தமிழக அரசு பரிந்துரை செய்துள்ளது. கவர்னர் பன்வாரிலால் புரோகித் இந்த 7 பேரையும் விடுவிக்க நடவடிக்கை எடுக்க வேண்டும் எனவும் தமிழக அரசு கோரிக்கை விடுத்துள்ளது.

இந்த நிலையில், ராஜீவ் கொலையின்போது பாதுகாப்பு பணியில் ஈடுபட்டிருந்த போலீஸ் இன்ஸ்பெக்டர் ராஜகுரு குண்டுவெடிப்பில் கொல்லப்பட்டார். இவரது மனைவி பாலசரஸ்வதி சென்னை பல்லாவரத்தில் வசித்துவருகிறார். ராஜீவ் கொலை வழக்கில் குற்றம்சாட்டப்பட்டவர் களை விடுவிக்கக்கூடாது என அவர் எதிர்ப்பு தெரிவித்துள்ளார்.

இதுதொடர்பாக ‘தினத்தந்தி’ நிருபருக்கு அவர் அளித்த பேட்டியில் கூறியிருப்பதாவது:-

என்னுடைய கணவர் ராஜகுரு பல்லாவரம் போலீஸ் இன்ஸ்பெக்டராக பணியில் இருந்தபோது ஸ்ரீபெரும்புதூரில் ராஜீவ்காந்தி தேர்தல் பிரசார கூட்டத்திற்கு பாதுகாப்பு பணிக்கு சென்றார். அங்கு விடுதலை புலிகள் வெடிகுண்டு தாக்குதல் நடத்தியதில் ராஜீவ் காந்தி கொல்லப்பட்டார். அப்போது அங்கு பாதுகாப்பு பணியில் இருந்த எனது கணவர் ராஜகுருவும் கொல்லப்பட்டார்.

எனது கணவர் உடலை பொட்டலமாக எங்களிடம் கொடுத்தார்கள். என் வாழ்க்கையில் எல்லாமுமாக இருந்த என் கணவரை இழந்து தவித்தேன். என் 2 பிள்ளைகள் தந்தையின் உடலை கூட பார்க்கவில்லை. அந்த அளவிற்கு பொட்டலமாக என் கணவர் உடலை கொடுத்தார்கள். என் குழந்தைகள் அழுது கதறினர். அதன்பிறகு என் குடும்பம் எத்தகைய கஷ்டத்தை அனுபவித்தது என்பது சொல்லிமாளாது.

என் குடும்பத்தின் நிலை யாருக்கும் வரக்கூடாது. அந்த அளவிற்கு நாங்கள் என் கணவரை இழந்த பிறகு கஷ்டப்பட்டோம். நாங்களும் தமிழர்கள் தான். எந்த தலைவரும் எங்கள் வீட்டிற்கு வந்து கேட்டதில்லை. என்னைப்போல தான் அந்த வெடிகுண்டு தாக்குதலில் கொல்லப்பட்ட அத்தனை குடும்பங்களும் வேதனைகளை அனுபவித்தது.

இன்றைக்கு ராஜீவ் கொலை கைதிகளை விடுதலை செய்யவேண்டும் என அனைத்து தலைவர்களும் பேசி வருகிறார்கள். இந்த வழக்கில் குற்றம் சாட்டப்பட்ட அத்தனை பேரும் அப்பாவிகளா. ராஜீவ் காந்தி கொலையின்போது அங்கு செயல்பட்ட விடுதலை புலிகள் ஒற்றைகண் சிவராசன், தாணு ஆகியோருடன் இப்போது சிறையில் உள்ளவர்கள் அந்த பொதுக்கூட்ட இடத்தில் ஒன்றாக இருந்த புகைப்படங்கள் அனைத்தும் என்னிடம் உள்ளது. அவர்கள் ராஜீவ் கொலையாளிகளுக்கு துணையாக இருந்தார்கள் என்பது அனைவருக்கும் தெரியும்.

இப்போது பல ஆண்டுகள் சிறையில் இருந்துவிட்டார்கள், அவர்களை விடுதலை செய்யவேண்டும் என கொலை வழக்கில் குற்றம்சாட்டப்பட்டவர்கள் அனைவரும் அப்பாவிகள் என்பதுபோல பேசிவருவது இந்த படுகொலையில் உயிரை இழந்தவர்களின் குடும்பங்களில் கடும் வேதனையை ஏற்படுத்தி உள்ளது. நீண்ட நாட்கள் சிறையில் இருந்தால் கொலை குற்றவாளிகளை விடுதலை செய்யலாம் என்றால், யார் வேண்டுமானாலும் கொலை செய்ய தயங்க மாட்டார்கள். இந்த முடிவை அரசு மறுபரிசீலனை செய்யவேண்டும். இந்த கொலை வழக்கில் சிறையில் இருப்பவர்களை விடுதலை செய்யக்கூடாது.

முன்னாள் பிரதமர் ராஜீவ் காந்தி கொலை வழக்கில் சிறையில் ஆயுள் தண்டனை அனுபவித்து வரும் முருகன், சாந்தன், பேரறிவாளன், நளினி, ராபர்ட் பயாஸ், ரவிச்சந்திரன், ஜெயக்குமார் ஆகிய 7 பேரை விடுதலை செய்ய தமிழக அரசு முடிவு செய்தது.

இதை எதிர்த்து மத்திய அரசு சுப்ரீம் கோர்ட்டில் வழக்கு தொடர்ந்தது. அந்த வழக்கை விசாரித்த சுப்ரீம் கோர்ட்டு, 7 பேரையும் விடுதலை செய்வது தொடர்பாக தமிழக அரசு முடிவு எடுத்து கவர்னரின் பரிசீலனைக்கு அனுப்பி வைக்கலாம் என்று கடந்த 6-ந் தேதி அறிவுறுத்தியது.

இதைத்தொடர்ந்து 9-ந் தேதி கூடிய தமிழக அமைச்சரவை, ராஜீவ் காந்தி கொலை கைதிகள் 7 பேரையும் விடுதலை செய்ய தீர்மானம் நிறைவேற்றி, அதை கவர்னர் பன்வாரிலால் புரோகித்துக்கு அனுப்பி வைத்தது. மேலும் 7 பேர் தொடர்பான கோப்புகளையும் கவர்னருக்கு அனுப்பியது.

தமிழக அரசின் இந்த பரிந்துரை குறித்து கருத்து கேட்டு, மத்திய உள்துறை அமைச்சகத்துக்கு கவர்னர் அறிக்கை அனுப்பி இருப்பதாக கடந்த வியாழக்கிழமை தகவல் வெளியானது.

இந்த நிலையில் இதுகுறித்து கவர்னர் மாளிகையின் சார்பில் நேற்று செய்திக்குறிப்பு ஒன்று வெளியிடப்பட்டது.

அதில் கூறப்பட்டு இருப்பதாவது:-

ராஜீவ்காந்தி கொலை வழக்கில் ஆயுள் தண்டனை அனுபவித்து வரும் கைதிகளின் விடுதலை தொடர்பாக மத்திய உள்துறை அமைச்சகத்துடன் தொடர்பு கொண்டதாக செய்திகள் வெளியாகி உள்ளன. இந்த அனுமானத்தின் அடிப்படையில் சில தனியார் தொலைக்காட்சிகள் விவாதங்களை நடத்தி வருகின்றன. இந்த விவகாரம் தொடர்பாக மத்திய உள்துறை அமைச்சகத்துக்கு எந்த கருத்தும் தெரிவிக்கப்படவில்லை.

இந்த பிரச்சினை (7 பேரின் விடுதலை) சிக்கலான ஒன்றாகும். இதில் சட்டரீதியாகவும், நிர்வாக ரீதியாகவும், அரசியல் சாசன அடிப்படையிலும் ஆய்வுகள் மேற்கொள்ளப்பட வேண்டும்.

இந்த விவகாரம் தொடர்பாக ஏராளமான ஆவணங்கள் உள்ளன. பல்வேறு கோர்ட்டு தீர்ப்புகள் அடங்கிய அந்த ஆவணங்களை 14-ந் தேதியன்றுதான் மாநில அரசு ஒப்படைத்தது. மேலும் பல ஆவணங்களை தந்து கொண்டிருக்கின்றனர். அந்த ஆவணங்கள் அனைத்தையும் உன்னிப்பாக கவனித்து மேல்நடவடிக்கை எடுப்பதற்கான அனைத்து முயற்சிகளும் மேற்கொள்ளப்படும்.

இந்த பணியில் தேவைப்படும் போது ஆலோசனைகள் பெறப்படும். இந்த விஷயத்தில் அரசியல் சாசனத்தின் அடிப்படையில் நியாயமான முடிவு எடுக்கப்படும்.

இவ்வாறு அதில் கூறப்பட்டு உள்ளது.

இலங்கை அதிபர் மைத்ரி பால சிறிசேனா, நேபாளத்தில் இருந்து இலங்கைக்கு ஸ்ரீலங்கன் ஏர்லைன்ஸின் பயணம் செய்த போது, அவருகு வழங்கப்பட்ட முந்திரி தரமில்லாததைக் கண்டு, ‘நாய் கூட திங்காது இந்த முந்திரியை, உடனே நடவடிக்கை எடுக்க வேண்டும்’ என்று உத்தரவிட்டு இருக்கிறார்.



கடந்த வாரம், நேபாள நாட்டின் தலைநகர் காத்மாண்டுவில், `வங்கக்கடலை ஒட்டி அமைந்துள்ள நாடுகளிடையே பொருளாதார மற்றும் தொழில்நுட்பம் சார்ந்த ஒத்துழைப்பு குறித்த நான்காவது உச்சிமாநாடு நடந்தது. இந்த மாநாட்டில் கலந்துகொண்ட பின்பு, இலங்கை அதிபர் மைத்ரி பால சிறிசேனா ஸ்ரீலங்கன் ஏர்லைன்ஸில் நாடு திரும்பினார்.



விமானப் பயணத்தின்போது, இலங்கை அதிபர் மைத்ரி பால சிறிசேனாவுக்கு வழங்கப்பட்ட முந்திரி தரமில்லாமல் இருந்திருக்கிறது. இதனால் கோபம் அடைந்த சிறிசேனா, 'இதை நாய் சாப்பிடுமா? உடனே இந்த முந்திரியை வழங்கும் நிறுவனத்தின் மீது நடவடிக்கை எடுக்க வேண்டும்” என்று உத்தரவிட்டு இருக்கிறார். இதனால் ஸ்ரீலங்கன் ஏர்லைன்ஸ்க்கு முந்திரி விநியோகம் செய்துவந்த துபாய் நிறுவனத்தின் சேவைக்கு தடைவிதிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. தற்போது, ஸ்ரீலங்கன் ஏர்லைன்ஸில் பயணம் செய்பவர்களுக்கு முந்திரி வழங்குவதும் நிறுத்தப்பட்டுள்ளது.

Chennai based craniomaxillofacial surgeon, Prof. Dr. S. M. Balaji being honoured with the Pakistan Dental Association’s Humanitarian Award.

Chennai: In a rare gesture in these times of India-Pakistan tension, Chennai based craniomaxillofacial surgeon, Prof. Dr. S. M. Balaji has been honoured with the Pakistan Dental Association's Humanitarian Award. Years ago, in an international meeting organised by Asia Pacific Dental Federation, the PDA, with a membership of over 1,000 dentists, had invited Prof. Balaji to lecture in Pakistan. Since 2010, PDA has been regularly referring patients with complex craniofacial developmental abnormalities to the doctor in Chennai.

The children are usually from low socio-economic category and the association would pool in resources for arranging the treatment and travel to Chennai. Prof. Balaji has been providing free surgical treatment to such needy patients from overseas. Over the last several years, scores of poor, young Pakistani children have immensely benefited from this endeavour.

In recognition of the humanitarian service rendered, the PDA leadership felicitated Prof. Balaji in a special award ceremony held along the sidelines of the 40th Asia Pacific Dental Federation 2018 meeting in Manila. The PDA President, Dr. Mahmood Shah, Vice President, Dr. Asif Arain and Secretary General Dr. Nasir Ali Khan presented Prof. Balaji with the award.

Prof. Balaji is the first Indian to receive such an honour from the Pakistan Dental Association. He is an expert in the field of craniomaxillofacial surgeon through which he has changed the lives of many patients who have come in with problems like hare lip and other facial deformities. In fact, the award winning short film Smile Pinki portrays well the kind of service rendered to such people in terms of their gaining self-confidence by surgeons like Prof. Balaji.

CHENNAI: It’s not just encroachers. Even a town panchayat in southern suburbs of the city seems to have shrunk a lake in its limits so that it can dig five wells right in the lakebed and pump water. The Madambakkam lake, one of biggest lakes in the south of the city, is said to be spread across 250 acres. But apparently the map of the lake submitted by the Madambakkam town panchayat to the Public Works Department changed the shape of the lake and shrunk it to a mere 80 acres.

The locals, who have obtained a copy of the documents through an RTI application, say the boundaries of the lake were intentionally redrawn so that the panchayat can dig wells on the lakebed and draw water to supply for residents of Chitlapakkam town panchayat residents.

The wells are being dug by the panchayat under a `3-crore project to extract around 18 lakh litres of water every day from five wells and supply it through an underground pipeline system to Chitlapakkam and Madambakkam. One of the main conditions laid down by the Public Works Department was that wells should be at least 25 metres away from the lake. The residents, pointing the contradictions of the maps of the lake in revenue records and the one submitted by the panchayat, say the boundaries were redrawn so that the spot in the lakebed where the wells are dug appears to be 25 metres away from the lake.

Since it was announced, the project has met with strong local opposition. “The Madambakkam town panchayat has clearly fudged the lake sketch to ensure the project is given the green light, “ said Lt Colonel CR Sundar, a resident who has filed a PIL in the Madras High Court pointing out the irregularities.

“This project will completely drain ground water in Madambakkam and we’ll have to start buying water after our borewells go dry,” said G Radhakrishnan, a resident of Yeshwanth Nagar, alleging that political pressure is driving the project.A top former Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board official said the project will have disastrous long-term effects on the ground water table. “In a matter of months the ground water levels will plummet and borewells have to be deepened. Soon Madambakkam will be as dry as Chitlapakkam,” he said, explaining how Madambakkam lake depends on only rain water for replenishment and cannot be used to fuel a big water supply scheme.

The Madambakkam town panchayat has denied any irregularities in seeking permission for the project and the sketch provided. “We have conducted a proper survey and have marked the wells as per the norms mandated,” said S Loganathan, executive officer.When Express contacted the PWD, they assured steps would be taken if irregularities were found in construction of wells and assured steps to maintain groundwater levels in Madambakkam.

“Seven wells were requested for the project but we have given permission for only five,” said a senior PWD official.Chitlapakkam, which is around 8 km away, has a lake of its own but it has been contaminated by decades of irresponsible disposal of garbage and sewage. Police intimidation
Initially, Madambakkam residents managed to stop panchayat from digging wells by blocking access to the lake. However, officials armed with around 150 cops began operations.Protestors were allegedly manhandled and threatened with dire consequences for pointing out irregularities and halting digging operations. NEW DELHI: Embattled liquor tycoon Vijay Mallya said Wednesday that he met the finance minister before leaving India and told him he's going to London, a sensational claim denied by Arun Jaitley as "factually false."

Immediately after Jaitley's sharp rebuttal, Mallya appeared to tone down the seriousness of his comments, saying it was "not fair" to create a controversy over this issue as it was not a "formal meeting" and he only "happened to meet" the Finance Minister.

The 62-year-old former Kingfisher Airline boss, who appeared before the Westminster Magistrates' Court in the case regarding his extradition to India to face the trial on fraud and money laundering charges, was asked by reporters if he was "tipped off" to leave the country.

"I left because I had a scheduled meeting in Geneva. I met the finance minister before I left, repeated my offer to settle with the banks. That is the truth," he responded.

Jaitley, who was the Finance Minister in 2016 when Mallya left India, denied the liquor baron's claim.

"Since 2014, I have never given him any appointment to meet me and the question of his having met me does not arise," the Finance Minister said in a Facebook post.

"The statement is factually false in as much as it does not reflect truth," he asserted.

Jaitley said Mallya "misused" the privilege of being a Rajya Sabha MP to catch him in corridors of Parliament on one occasion while he was walking out of the House to go to his room.

He said Mallya while walking alongside, "uttered a sentence that 'I am making an offer of settlement'.

Having being fully briefed about his 'bluff offers', without allowing him to proceed with the conversation, I curtly told him 'there was no point talking to me and he must make offers to his bankers.'"

"I did not even receive the papers he was holding in his hand," Jaitley said.

Mallya was elected as Rajya Sabha MP in 2002 and 2010 both times as an independent candidate.

In London, responding to further questions by reporters following Finance Minister Jaitley's statement dismissing his claims, Mallya said, "I am afraid this is a controversy created by my friends in media."

"I was standing during the lunch break and I happen to answer a question on the circumstances under which I flew out. I said I happened to meet Mr Jaitley in Parliament and told him that I am leaving for London. I did not have any formal meeting scheduled with him," he said.

Mallya said he met Jaitley "often enough in the Parliament, in the House, in the Central Hall."

On being asked if he was "tipped off" to flee the country, he added: "Absolutely not. I can confirm nobody tipped me off. There was no need to run. The allegations are media created allegations, unfortunately."

"It was a totaly innocent statement made by me that I told Jaitley that I was going to London," Mallya said at the end of his extradition case hearing at the court, when the judge fixed December 10 as the date for her verdict in the case.

Congress and other opposition parties latched onto Mallya's statement to question the government about the circumstances in which the defaulter businessmen fled the country.

Earlier, talking to reporters Mallya said the media should question the banks why they are not supporting him in his efforts to repay.

"I have said before that I am a political football. There is nothing that I can do about it. My conscience is clear and (I) put almost Rs 15,000 crore worth of assets on the table of the Karnataka High Court," he said.

"I am certainly a scapegoat, I feel like a scapegoat. Both political parties don't like me," he said, while having a cigarette during the lunch break during the hearing for his ongoing extradition case at Westminster Magistrates' Court in London.

He sarcastically described the video of Barrack 12 at Mumbai's Arthur Road Jail, which has been prepared for him, as "very impressive".

"I have no comment, you are hearing everything in court," he added on further questions by the reporters.

Mallya has been on bail on an extradition warrant since his arrest in April last year and is fighting extradition to India on charges of fraud and money laundering amounting to around Rs 9,000 crores.

During today's hearing, Mallya's defence team branded the evidence presented by the Indian government in the case as "utterly unfounded".

The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), arguing on behalf of the Indian government, countered this with arguments that Mallya had intended "from the outset" never to repay the loans he sought for his struggling airline and misrepresented its profitability.

At the previous hearing in July, Judge Arbuthnot had asked the Indian authorities to submit a "step by step video" of Barrack 12 of Arthur Road Jail for "the avoidance of doubt" over the availability of natural light in the cell where the businessman is expected to be detained pre-trial, during trial and in the event he is convicted by the Indian courts.

The extradition trial, which opened at the London court on December 4 last year, is aimed at laying out a prima facie case of fraud against Mallya.

It also seeks to prove there are no "bars to extradition" and that the tycoon is assured a fair trial in India over his now-defunct Kingfisher Airlines' alleged default of over Rs 9,000 crores in loans from a consortium of Indian banks.

Mallya's defence team has deposed a series of expert witnesses to claim he had no "fraudulent" intentions and that he is unlikely to get a fair trial in India.
