Social media abuzz with glitches in Chennai One Issues Include Screen Bugs, Untrained Conductors

Chennai : Teething troubles while using Chennai One app, which recorded nearly two lakh downloads in four days, have kept social media abuzz with commuters using the ChennaiOne hashtag or tagging Chennai One to flag glitches and provide feedback. A large number of users wanted the facility to book ‘return ticket’ in local trains, and some said MTC bus conductors were still unaware of the app, leading to discussions aboard crowded buses.

Another user reported bugs in the ‘Book Metro’ screen as they couldn’t find the ‘green line’. K Senthil, a user from Chromepet, said it also did not allow booking tickets from within the railway station due to geo-location issues. Cumta (Chennai unified metropolitan transport authority) must add return ticket booking facility soon,” he said.

Another user, R Bharat from Tambaram, flagged that all the bus routes hadn’t been mapped yet. “Just two bus routes were seen in the app,” he said. Users also flagged ‘bus bunching’ at prime stops such as Vadapalani, as buses didn’t stop despite the app mandating stoppage there.

S Sathish Kumar, a user, said he booked the bus route no. 72, and the app said the bus would arrive at 4pm. “But, about six buses of different routes came to the bus stop all at once. Only two of them stopped, while the remaining overtook the others and went without stopping. This defeats the purpose of booking tickets,” he said, adding that he waited another 20 minutes to get the next bus.

Commuters also said conductors weren’t entirely aware of the system. Bharat said the online ticket should change from grey to green once it is activated inside the MTC bus. “But, after scanning the code, it took 10 minutes for it to turn green. Conductors were impatient and urged people to buy tickets. This led to unnecessary arguments,” he said. Commuters said the ticket validity for railways was just three hours, unlike the six hours for MTC. Of 20,000 ticket bookings completed, 58% were MTC, 22% railways, and 20% metro.

Southern Railway on Thursday in an X post announced that they were adding AC EMU booking options soon. Cumta member-secretary I Jeyakumar said their team has been rectifying all the glitches instantly. “Season passes for MTC and railways have been the major demand. These will be rolled out,” he said

‘MEDICAL ROOM WAS ILL-EQUIPPED’ Sagar Choukse TNN  26.09.2025

Indore : A 33-year-old software engineer, waiting at Indore airport for a flight to Bengaluru, was bitten by a rat inside the terminal on Wednesday. The passenger, Arun Modi, a resident of Bhopal, was resting on a recliner when the rodent crawled inside his trousers and bit him near the knee. He was accompanied by his wife. Their cries for help drew the attention of fellow passengers and airport staff.

As passengers raised their voice, tempers soared when Modi alleged the airport’s medical room was ill-equipped to handle a medical emergency. He said the staff was reluctant and unprepared to provide timely treatment. He received treatment in Bengaluru. On Thursday, airport director V K Seth said that Amaltas Group, which provides emergency medical services at the airport, was asked to replace the on-duty doctor.

“The step was taken due to the doctor’s lack of sensitivity in attending to the passenger and providing him with timely treatment. The agency has been asked to post a competent doctor who is properly trained and empathetic to render services at the airport,” Seth told TOI. “Fines of ₹500 and ₹2,000 have been imposed on the pest control and sanitation agencies respectively,” Seth said, adding that the pest control agency has been issued a showcause notice, along with an increase in the frequency of the assigned works. The incident also drew criticism from the political circles with Congress demanding immediate action. Party spokesperson Amit Chaurasia said the incident has tarnished the city’s ‘clean Indore’ image.

Meerut : Surgeons at a private hospital in Hapur were stunned during an emergency operation when they extracted 29 steel spoons, 19 toothbrushes and two sharp pens from a 40-year-old patient’s stomach. The man, a resident of Bulandshahr, had been admitted to a de-addiction centre in Ghaziabad by his family a month earlier. Doctors said he had begun complaining of severe abdominal pain and was brought to the hospital after his condition worsened.

An ultrasound showed multiple metallic objects lodged in his stomach, prompting immediate surgery. Dr Shyam Kumar, who led the operation on Sept 17, said the team was shocked by the number of items removed. “The patient was discharged on Thursday. He was now stable and recovering well,” he said. Doctors explained that this behaviour was associated with a psychological condition in which patients impulsively swallowed harmful objects. After the operation, the patient, who was married and had two children, told doctors he had swallowed the items in agitation. “My family took me to see a doctor at the facility but left me there,” he said. “They mistreated me there and often did not give me food. I felt helpless and angry, so I started swallowing things to hurt myself,” he added.

367 MBBS seats vacant after 2nd round added to management quota

367 MBBS seats vacant after 2nd round added to management quota

TIMES NEWS NETWORK 26.09.2025

Chennai : At least 367 MBBS seats in self-financing colleges and state private universities that were vacant after two rounds of counselling by state selection panel, will be added to management quota seats in the third round of counselling.

Additionally, 100 seats—50 each from Vivekananda Medical College and St Peters Medical College—awaiting affiliation from state medical university will also be added to the seat matrix, officials said.

In round 2 results of MBBS/BDS counselling released by state selection panel on Wednesday, NRI seats in several self-financing medical colleges were not allotted as candidates did not opt for seats. This year, the fixation of fees panel, struck down the NRI lapsed seats category, which was created to fill in non-NRI candidates alongside management quota in self-financing medical/dental colleges and state private universities. The selection committee will hence transfer vacant NRI seats to the common pool in management category, allowing students to take these seats at a 30% lower cost. The panel fixed MBBS fees for 2025 in self-financing colleges at ₹15 lakh a year, and fee for NRIs was ₹27 lakh. Until 2024, self-financing colleges were allowed to collect ₹24.5 lakh as NRI fees. Colleges set aside 15% of the seats for NRI category. If these seats were not filled, they were converted into NRI lapse seats, which had ₹21.50 lakh as annual tuition fee. The six seats under the minority quota will be converted only after the institute agrees to convert them into management quota seats, officials added.

TIMES NEWS NETWORK  25.09.2025

New Delhi : India’s medical education system is set for its biggest expansion yet, with the cabinet on Wednesday approving the creation of 5,000 new postgraduate seats and 5,023 MBBS seats in govt institutions. It also cleared the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research’s (DSIR) Capacity Building and Human Resource Development scheme with an outlay of Rs 2,277 crore to strengthen India’s R&D pipeline. The cabinet's approval for the DSIR scheme will add vigour to India's R&D ecosystem, with a focus on a culture of innovation as well as excellence, PM Narendra Modi said. He said approval of Phase-III of the Centrally Sponsored Scheme will add significant PG and UG medical seats

“This will improve our healthcare system and enhance medical education infrastructure. It will ensure that every part of India has availability of skilled doctors,” the PM said. The medical education decision will fund the upgradation of state and central medical colleges, standalone PG institutes and govt hospitals, with an enhanced cost ceiling of Rs 1.5 crore per seat. Together, the two initiatives represent a combined push to expand the country’s pool of doctors and scientists. The medical seat expansion scheme carries a financial implication of Rs 15,034 crore over 2025- 29, of which the Centre will bear Rs 10,303 crore and states Rs 4,731 crore. Officials said expansion will ensure a steady pipeline of specialists, introduce new disciplines, & make better use of existing infrastructure. With 808 medical colleges and 1.23 lakh MBBS seats — the largest in the world — India has added over 69,000 MBBS and 43,000 PG seats in the past decade. Yet, gaps remain, particularly in underserved rural and tribal regions. The new approval aims to bridge these gaps while also generating large-scale employment.

Tirunelveli–Chennai Vande Bharat now chugs with 20 coaches

Tirunelveli - Chennai Egmore Vande Bharat Express Train leaves Tirunelveli with 20 coaches on Wednesday. Special Arrangement

Tirunelveli  25.09.2025

The Tirunelveli – Chennai Vande Bharat Express Train has begun its service with 20 coaches from Wednesday onwards.

The Tirunelveli – Chennai Egmore Vande Bharat Express Train with eight coaches started its journey in September 2023. Leaving Tirunelveli Junction at 6.05 a.m., this train covers 653 km to reach its destination at 1.55 p.m. In the return journey, the train departs Chennai Egmore at 2.45 p.m. to reach Tirunelveli at 10.30 a.m.

Since the train crosses this distance within 7 hours 50 minutes, even as all other super fast express trains on this section take more than 10 hours, patronage for this service is swelling everyday, notwithstanding premium ticket fare. Following an appeal from Tirunelveli MP C. Robert Bruce, the Southern Railway increased the coaches to 16 in January last for carrying 1,128 passengers, which too could not meet the demand. Hence, the service with 20 brand-new coaches was started on Wednesday for serving 1,440 commuters.
