‘Probe irregularities in nursing colleges as they are putting students’ future at stake’

Bhopal: The National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) on Sunday accused several govt nursing colleges in MP of operating in breach of state recognition norms and jeopardising students’ futures, calling for a high-level probe. Speaking at a press conference on Sunday, NSUI state vice-president Ravi Parmar said 22 govt nursing colleges applied for accreditation for the 2026–27 session, three of which were denied recognition: the Central Government’s BMHRC Nursing College (Bhopal), Government Nursing College at Amarkantak University (Anuppur), and the Government Nursing College in Datia. He said Amarkantak University’s nursing college — not yet operational — showed a principal and vice-principal claiming prior experience despite the institution’s non-existence. Parmar alleged widespread shortfalls in senior leadership: six colleges lack a principal, ten lack a viceprincipal, and many fail to meet prescribed numbers of faculty under the MP Recognition Rules, 2018. He also alleged submission of forged experience certificates in accreditation applications. Congress spokesperson Vivek Tripathi linked the problem to broader education sector malpractices, warning that expansion of private universities in the state has outpaced oversight. Advocates Abhishek Pandey and Anshul Tiwari, present at the briefing, said previous CBI findings had exposed deficiencies that the Department of Public Health and Medical Education failed to find a remedy for. They confirmed a petition has been filed in HC seeking accountability.
