NEET exemption: State submits draft copy of ordinance

After back-toback meetings with Union ministers and senior bureaucrats in New Delhi, Tamil Nadu officials have submitted a draft copy of an Ordinance that provides exemption for the state from National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test (NEET) for two years, health minister C Vijaya Baskar has said.

 

The minister, who has been camping in New Delhi, said the file was handed over to Union home minister Rajnath Singh who is expected to take a decision after discussions with health, HRD and law ministries. And, once the consent is received, the Ordinance can be promulgated and sent for governor's signature, he said.

Unlike on Monday , senior AIADMK leaders including Lok Sabha deputy speaker M Thambidurai refused to give any assurance to students. Asked if there was any hope of exemption from NEET, Thambidurai said: “We don't want to give false news (hope) to students. NEET is over. We are looking for a solution, as some students are affected by it. We cannot give them any assurances now. We are taking our best efforts.Home secretary is not in town. The ministry will decide as soon as he returns.“

Vijaya Baskar said the state would move the Supreme Court against Madras high court order quashing 85% reservation of MBBSBDS seats for state board students.

The Centre is unlikely to agree to the presidential assent for the two TN laws enacted earlier this year. On January 31, the state legislative assembly passed an Act to exclude Tamil Nadu from NEET for admission to undergraduate and postgraduate medical and dental courses.

The state has put admissions on hold in the hope of retaining at least 85% quota for state board students, but the August 31 deadline for completing MBBSBDS admissions is worrying all stake-holders.

Declining Job Prospects The Main Reason 

 

Demand for MBA seats, one of the sought after until a decade ago, continues to nose-dive in Tamil Nadu. More than 9,000 seats, or 65% of the total seats under the state government quota, are set to go vacant this year.

 

A total of 4,700 candidates are part of the single-window counselling for 13,710 seats across 317 colleges, said T Purushothaman, secretary of TN MBAMCA Admissions 2017.On Tuesday , day one of the counselling, one-fourth of the invited candidates absented themselves. The fall in demand, experts say , is mainly due to the declining job prospects and inadequate number of government colleges offering the course. This is despite government toning down the difficulty level of the entrance test since 2013, when a sharp drop in the number of admissions was recorded.

“Only a handful of MBA graduates, particularly those from premier institutions, manage to secure a decent job.Others either become jobless or settle for low-paying jobs `20,000,“ said A M Na `18,000-` (` tarajan, chief executive of Erode-based Bannari Amman Institute of Technology . A government college principal from Chennai said mushrooming of private institutions in recent years has degraded quality of the course and it was high time authorities identified and shut down low-performing ones.

Rank list for counselling is based on Tamil Nadu Common Entrance Test (TANCET) scores. “Though the government has toned down the difficulty level of the test of late, the number of students getting admitted to MBA under the state government quota has not increased,“ said A Muthu Krishnan of Chennai-based coaching institute Ascent Education.

Most candidates, particularly moderate and slow-learners, do not complete the test on time, he said. “Unlike other competitive tests, in TANCET 100 questions are to be answered in 120 minutes.“ Even MCA seats have fewer takers. Of the 12,000 seats available, only 784 got filled.

Kamal Haasan congratulates fans for unearthing rotten egg `scam' in TN

Escalating his running feud with the government to the next stage, actor Kamal Haasan on Tuesday congratulated the Permabalur unit of his fans club for having `exposed' supply of rotten eggs to children at government day care homes (anganwadis).

 

The actor's fans claimed to have found rotten eggs at a government elementary school in Muthunagar in the district and took to the social media immediately. Cautioning his fans that they should play by rules and not get carried away, Kamal tweeted on Tuesday, saying: “Peram balur expose of rotten eggs given to children deserves praise. Pls consult our in house lawyers be4 exposing crime. Dont break laws (sic).“

Later in the day, the Perambalur district collector visited the school and told the media after the inspection that noon meal organi zers usually would remove the rotten eggs and replace them with good eggs from the supplier. “Kamal fans took the photograph of the rotten eggs when they were kept for replacement,“ the collector said.

Kamal is in the eye of a political storm ever since he ca me out with a statement that all departments in the government are corrupt.When some ministers hit back and challenged him to pinpoint corruption, he responded with a call to his fans and the general public that they should list out instances of corruption and send them to the ministers.He even mentioned the website and other contact details of authorities and ministers.

Facing a flood of corruption complaints, most of the ministers removed the contact and mailing details from their websites and the home page of the state government also almost cashed.

90% of med seats in deemed univs vacant across country

More than 90% of MBBSBDS seats in deemed universities across the country remain vacant at the end of the first round of counselling conducted by Directorate General of Health Services, New Delhi.The last date to report at the deemed universities concerned or `resign' allotted seats ended on July 22, and the DGHS has begun the second round of coun selling for which allotments would be announced on August 8.

 

In the first round, allotments were made for up to all-India rank of 6,47,124 for available seats. This year, for the first time, DGHS is conducting MBBSBDS admissions for deemed universities based on NEET-2017 scores. On Tuesday , when the DGHS published vacancies on its webpage, it was found that most of the allotted students had either not reported at the universities concerned, or chose to “resign“ the allotment. At the eight deemed universities in Tamil Nadu, offering 1,185 seats under the management quota, 1,073 seats remain vacant. Of the 143 NRI quota seats, 85 were vacant. Some like ACS Medical College in Chennai are yet to get even one student, while others like Meenakshi Medical College Hospital in Chennai and Vinayaka Mission in Salem managed to get three students each.

Top universities in other states too are no exception. At Mumbaibased DY Patil Medical College Hospital, just four management quota seats and 10 NRI quota seats were taken. At Manipal-based Kasturba Medical College, 160 of 212 MBBS seats and 30 of 38 NRI seats were vacant, while 124 of 127 management seats and all NRI seats remain vacant at Visakhapatmam-based GITAM Institute of Medical Sciences.

Officials of various college said they called many students individually to check why they had not turned up for admissions, and the responses were similar -they wanted to wait for second round of counselling in government quota and at least first round of counselling in their states. “DGHS should have started admission process for deemed universities after completing process for 15% All India Quota.It would have given time for students to see if they had a chance for better options in government colleges within their state,“ said Sa veetha Medical College dean T Gunasagaran.
Ravi Kumar, parent of a student allotted a seat in Chennai-based SRM University , said he decided to forgo it because of exorbitant fee.“The tuition fee is `23 lakh a year. I may have to shell out an additional `3 lakh towards other expenses, including hostel fee, laboratory fee and university fee. I decided to wait for state counselling. I am hoping he will get into a state-run college where the entire course fee is less than `80,000,“ he said.

The second phase of seat allotment in deemed universities will be held on August 5 and 7 along with the second phase in government colleges. The vacant seats will be transferred to the respective universities on August 27 after mop-up counselling on August 21. If adequate number of seats are still not filled, the universities will have three days to complete admissions before the MCI_fixed August 31 deadline.

Until 2015, deemed universities were allowed to admit students either based on an entrance or Class XII marks. In 2016, following a Supreme Court order, students were admitted based on NEET scores.This year, the Supreme Court directed MCI to organise centralised counselling for all deemed universities.

DGHS officials said they did not expect so many seats to remain vacant. “... Although we expected there may be some resignations, we did not expect such a high percentage. We are hoping to complete admission before mop-up,“ a senior official refusing to be named said.The DGHS has not announced any revision in dates of counselling.

3–8–2017 அன்று ஆடிப்பெருக்கு

ஆடி மாதம் 18–ந் தேதியில் வரும் பதினெட்டாம் பெருக்கு விழா, நதிக்கரைகளிலும் ஆற்றங்கரைகளிலும் கொண்டாடப்படுகிறது. தட்சிணாயன புண்ணிய காலம் என்று சூரியனின் தென்திசைப் பயணத்தைக் குறிப்பிடுவர். இதில் முதல் மாதமாக ஆடியில் விவசாயிகள் உழவுப் பணிகளைத் தொடங்குவர். ஆடிப்பட்டம் தேடிவிதை என்று சொல்வதுண்டு. நாடு செழிக்கத் தேவையான நீரைப் போற்றிப் பாதுகாக்கவேண்டும் என்ற நோக்கத்தில் நதியைத் தெய்வமாகப் போற்றி வழிபட்டவர்கள் நம் முன்னோர். அதற்குரிய வழிபாட்டு நாளாக ஆடி பதினெட்டாம் நாளைத் தேர்ந்தெடுத்தனர். அன்று ஆடிப்பெருக்கு விழா கொண்டாடினர். இந்த விழா இப்போதும் காவிரிக்கரை மாவட்டங்களில் சிறப்பாக நடக்கிறது. இந்நாளில் தொடங்கும் செயல்கள் இனிதே நிறை வேறும் என்பது ஐதீகம். ஆடி 18–ல் காவிரியில் நீராடி, காவிரி அன்னையை வழிபட்டு மஞ்சள், குங்குமம், மலர், வஸ்திரம் சமர்ப்பிப்பர். புதுமணத் தம்பதிகள் புதுமஞ்சள் கயிறு மாற்றிக் கொள்வர்.

காவிரிக்கரையோரம் உள்ளவர்கள் மட்டுமே ஆடிப்பெருக்கைக் கொண்டாட வேண்டும் என்பதில்லை. ஆடிப்பெருக்கு பூஜையை நம் வீட்டிலும் எளிய முறையில் செய்யலாம். ஒரு செம்பில் அரைத்த மஞ்சளை சிறிதளவு போட வேண்டும். நிறைகுடத்திலிருந்து அந்த செம்பில் நீர் எடுத்ததும், மஞ்சள் கரைந்து விடும். திருவிளக்கேற்றி அந்த நீரை விளக்கின் முன் வைக்க வேண்டும். தண்ணீரில் உதிரிப் பூக்களைப் போட வேண்டும். கற்பூர ஆரத்தி அல்லது நெய்தீபம் காட்டி கங்கை, யமுனை, நர்மதை, காவிரி, வைகை உள்ளிட்ட புண்ணிய தீர்த்தங்களை மனதில் நினைத்து, முன்னொரு காலத்தில் எங்களை மூதாதையர் உங்களை புனிதமாகக் கருதி வழிபட்டது போல் எங்களுக்கும் அத்தகைய மனநிலையைத் தாருங்கள் என்று வேண்டுங்கள். காவிரியையும் தாமிரபரணியையும் நமக்களித்த அகத்திய முனிவரை மனதார வணங்குங்கள். பூஜை முடிந்ததும் செம்பிலுள்ள நீரை செடி, கொடிகளில் ஊற்றி விட வேண்டும். அன்று சர்க்கரைப் பொங்கல் நிவேதனம் செய்ய வேண்டும். இவ்வாறு செய்தால் செல்வம் கொழிக்கும் என்பது நம்பிக்கை.

அட்சய திரிதியை விட, ஆடிப்பெருக்கு நகை வாங்க உயர்ந்த நன்னாளாகக் கருதப்படுகிறது. இந்நாளில் நகை மட்டுமின்றி பிற பொருட்களும் வாங்கலாம். நாம் செய்கின்ற நற்செயல்களால், புண்ணியம் எப்படி பெருகுகிறதோ, அதுபோல் இந்நாளில் தொடங்கும் சேமிப்பும் பல மடங்காய் பெருகும் என்பர். ஆடிமாதத்தில் பொதுவாக புதுத்தொழில் தொடங்குவதில்லை என்பர். ஆனால், ஆடிப்பெருக்கு மட்டும் விதிவிலக்காகும்.

காவிரியன்னை ரங்கநாதரின் தங்கையாகக் கருதப்படுகிறாள். இந்நாளில், சமயபுரம் பகுதியில் திருவிழா கோலமாக இருக்கும். இவ்வூருக்கு சகோதரர்கள் தங்கள் சகோதரிகளையும், மைத்துனர்களையும் வீட்டிற்கு வரவழைத்து சீர் கொடுக்கும் வழக்கம் இன்றும் இருக்கிறது. தம்பதியரை இங்குள்ள ஆதிமாரியம்மன் கோவிலுக்கும் அழைத்துச் செல்வர். இவள் சமயபுரம் மாரியம்மனின் சகோதரியாக கருதப்படுகிறாள். சாதாரண மக்களே, இவ்வாறு சீர்கொடுக்கும் போது, இங்கே கோவில் கொண்டிருக்கும் ரங்கநாதர் சும்மா இருப்பாரா! தன் தங்கை காவிரிக்கு சீர் கொடுக்க அவர் அம்மாமண்டப படித்துறைக்கு எழுந்தருள்வார்.  அங்குள்ள மண்டபத்தில் சுவாமிக்கு திருமஞ்சனம் நடக்கும். மாலை வரை அங்கேயே ஆஸ்தானத்தில் வீற்றிருப்பார். சீதனப்பொருட்களாக பட்டு, தாலிப்பொட்டு, மஞ்சள் உள்ளிட்ட மங்கலப் பொருட்கள் ஆற்றில் மிதக்க விடப்படும்.

ராமபிரான் அசுரர்களை வதம் செய்த பாவம் நீங்க, வசிஷ்ட முனிவரிடம் வழி கேட்டார். வசிஷ்டர், ‘அறுபத்தாறு கோடி தீர்த்தங்களைத் தன்னிடம் கொண்ட காவிரிக்கு, தட்சிண கங்கை என்று பெயர். அந்த நதியில் நீராடினால் உன் பாவ உணர்வுகள் நீங்கும்’ என்று கூறினார். அதன்படி ராமச்சந்திர மூர்த்தி, காவிரியில் நீராடி தன்னுடைய பாவங்களைப் போக்கிக் கொண்டார். அவர் காவிரியில் நீராடிய நாள் ஆடிப்பெருக்கு என்று புராணங்கள் தெரிவிக்கின்றன.

தென்னிந்தியாவில் திரிவேணி எனப்படும் பவானி கூடுதுறையில் சங்கமேஸ்வரர் கோவிலின் நடை, ஆடிப்பதினெட்டு அன்று அதிகாலையில் திறக்கப்படும். மக்கள் கூடுதுறையில் நீராடிவிட்டு இறைவனை வழிபடுவார்கள். அம்மனுக்கு தேங்காய், பழம், பூ, காதோலை கருகமணி படைத்து ஆராதனை செய்வார்கள். பூஜையில் வைத்த மஞ்சள் சரடினை பெண்கள் கழுத்திலும், ஆண்கள் வலது கை மணிக்கட்டிலும் அணிந்து கொள்வர். இதனால் வீட்டில் மங்கள காரியங்கள் தடையின்றி நடைபெறும் என்பது நம்பிக்கை.
