ஆசிரியர் தினம்

தன்னுடைய வாழ்வில் ஆசிரியர் பணியை புனிதமாகக் கருதி, பிற ஆசிரியர்களுக்கு முன்மாதிரியாக, ஒரு நல்ல ஆசிரியரால் எவ்வளவு தூரம் பயன்பட முடியும் என்பதை தமது இறுதி காலம் வரை வாழ்ந்துக் காட்டி, ஒரு மாபெரும் தத்துவமேதையாக உலகிற்குத் தன்னை வெளிப்படுத்திய டாக்டர் சர்வபள்ளி ராதாகிருஷ்ணன் அவர்களின் பிறந்த நாளான செப்டம்பர் 05 ஆம் நாளை, இந்தியாவில் 1962 ஆம் ஆண்டு முதல் ஒவ்வொரு வருடமும் ஆசிரியர் தினமாகக் கொண்டாடப்பட்டு வருகிறது. இத்திருநாளில் பள்ளிகள், கல்லூரிகள், அலுவலகங்கள் என இந்தியா முழுவதும் விடுமுறை அளிக்கப்பட்டு ஆசிரியர்களுக்கு மரியாதை தரும் வகையில் சிறப்புகள் செய்யப்பட்டு வருகிறது.

சர்வபள்ளி ராதாகிருஷ்ணன் பற்றிய சிறப்பு

சர்வபள்ளி ராதாகிருஷ்ணன் அவர்கள், 1888 ஆம் ஆண்டு செப்டம்பர் 05 ஆம் நாள் திருத்தணி அருகே உள்ள சர்வபள்ளி என்ற இடத்தில் ஒரு ஏழை பிராமண குடும்பத்தில் பிறந்தார். தத்துவத்தை முதற்பாடமாகக் கொண்டு இளங்கலைத் துறையில் பி. ஏ. பட்டமும், பின்னர் முதுகலைத் துறையில் எம். ஏ. பட்டமும் பெற்றவர். சென்னையில் உள்ள பிரிசிடென்சி கல்லூரியில் உதவி விரிவுரையாளராகத் தன்னுடைய ஆசிரியர் பணியைத் தொடர்ந்த அவர், இந்து மத இலக்கியத் தத்துவங்களான உபநிடதங்கள், பகவத்கீதை, பிரம்மசூத்திரா, மற்றும் சங்கரா, ராமானுஜர், மாதவர், போன்றோரின் வர்ணனைகளையும் கற்றுத் தேர்ந்தார். அதுமட்டுமல்லாமல், புத்தமத மற்றும் ஜெயின் தத்துவங்களையும், மேற்கத்திய சிந்தனையாளர்களான பிளாட்டோ, ப்லோடினஸ், காந்த், பிராட்லி, மற்றும் பெர்க்சன் போன்றோரின் தத்துவங்களையும் கற்று, அதன் சிறப்பைப் பற்றி நமது நாட்டில் எடுத்துரைத்தார். மேலை நாடுகளுக்குச் செல்லாமல், நம் நாட்டிலேயே அனைத்து சித்தாந்தங்களையும் படித்து, ஒரு தத்துவமேதையாகத் உலகிற்குத் தன்னை வெளிப்படுத்தினார்.

1918 ஆம் ஆண்டு மைசூர் பல்கலைக்கழகத்தின் தத்துவப் பேராசிரியராகத் தேர்வு செய்யப்பட்ட இவர், 1921ல், கல்கத்தா பல்கலைக்கழகத்தில், தத்துவப் பேராசிரியராகப் பரிந்துரைக்கப்பட்டார். அதன் பிறகு 1923ல், டாக்டர் ராதாகிருஷ்ணன் அவர்களின் அற்புதப் படைப்பான “இந்திய தத்துவம்” வெளியிடப்பட்டது. இப்புத்தகம், பாரம்பரியத் தத்துவம் இலக்கியத்தின் ஒரு தலைச்சிறந்த படைப்பாகப் போற்றப்பட்டது.

இந்துமதத் தத்துவங்கள் பற்றி விரிவுரைகள் வழங்க, ஆக்ஸ்ஃபோர்டு பல்கலைக்கழகம், டாக்டர் ராதாகிருஷ்ணன் அவர்களுக்கு அழைப்பு விடுத்தது. பல மேடைகளில், அவரது சொற்பொழிவுகளை இந்தியா சுதந்திரம் அடைவதற்கு ஒரு ஆயுதமாக பயன்படுத்தினார். மேற்கத்திய சிந்தனையாளர்களின் அனைத்து கூற்றுகளும் பரந்த கலாச்சாரத்தில் இருந்து இறையியல் தாக்கங்கள் சார்புடையதாகவே உள்ளது என்று வாதிட்டார். இந்தியத் தத்துவங்களைத் தரமான கல்வி வாசகங்கள் உதவியுடன் மொழிப்பெயர்த்தால், மேற்கத்திய தரங்களையும் மிஞ்சி விடும் என்றுரைத்தார். இவ்வாறு இந்தியத் தத்துவத்தை, ‘உலக வரைபடத்தில் வைத்த ஒரு மாபெரும் தத்துவஞானி’ என டாக்டர் ராதாகிருஷ்ணன் அவர்களைக் கூறலாம்.

1931 ஆம் ஆண்டு, டாக்டர் ராதாகிருஷ்ணன் அவர்கள், ஆந்திரப் பல்கலைக்கழகத்தின் துணை வேந்தராகத் தேர்ந்தெடுக்கப்பட்டார். 1939 ஆம் ஆண்டு, பெனாரஸ் இந்துமதம் பல்கலைக்கழகத்தின் துணை வேந்தரானார். 1946ல், அவர் யுனெஸ்கோவின் தூதுவராக நியமிக்கப்பட்டார். சுதந்திரத்திற்குப் பின், 1948ல் டாக்டர் ராதாகிருஷ்ணன் அவர்களை, பல்கலைக்கழகக் கல்வி ஆணையத் தலைவராகுமாறு கேட்டுக்கொண்டது. இந்தியக் கல்வி முறையின் தேவைகளைப் பூர்த்தி செய்யவும், சிறப்பான கல்வித் திட்டத்தை வடிவமைக்கவும், ராதாகிருஷ்ணன் அவர்களுடைய குழுவின் பரிந்துரைகள் பெரிதும் உதவியது.

ஆசிரியர் தினக் கொண்டாட்டம்

இந்தியாவில் ஒவ்வொரு ஆண்டும், செப்டம்பர் 5 ஆம் தேதி கொண்டாடப்பட்டு வரும் ‘ஆசிரியர் தின’ நன்னாளில் பள்ளிகள் மற்றும் கல்லூரிகளில் பல பேச்சுப் போட்டி, கட்டுரைப் போட்டி எனப் பல்வேறு போட்டிகளை நடத்தி, மாணவர்களுக்குப் பரிசுகள் வழங்குவார்கள். மேலும், சிறந்த ஆசிரியர்களை கௌரவிக்கும் வண்ணமாக அவர்களுக்கு விருதுகள் வழங்கி அரசு அவர்களைப் பெருமைப்படுத்தும். மாணவர்களும், அந்நாளில் தங்களுக்குப் பிடித்த ஆசிரியர்களுக்கு அன்பளிப்புகளை வழங்கி, வாழ்த்துக்கள் தெரிவிப்பர்.

Amid chaos, classes begin and counselling wraps up

Chennai: Monday saw the last round NEET (National Eligibility Entrance Test) counselling for filling the leftover seats in BDS programmes across the state. A total of 601 seats under management quota in self-financing colleges and 8 seats from two government colleges in the state fell vacant as on date.

In total, about 31 students were allotted seats on Monday's counselling which continued without a hitch at the Tamil Nadu Government Multi-Super-Speciality Hospital at Omandurar, for admission into dental colleges; which followed the counselling for MBBS seats which originally kicked off August 24 and concluded its first and second phase of counselling last week.

This continued even in the backdrop of state-wide protests erupting over the recent suicide of medical aspirant Anitha. Despite student unions raging against the examination and parents expressing worry over the inflamed situation in the state, the counselling process wrapped up without any incident. Monday also saw the commencement of first day of classes for the undergraduate MBBS students in the state. "We have been worried that it may not be ideal for the children to start classes around the time of all these protests," says Banumathy Giridhar, whose daughter is set to begin BDS course at a college in the city.

The status quo remains the same with social media too continuing to explode with debate from students and protesters alike on the situation for poorer medical aspirants in the state, and carrying on with counselling even while NEET is being questioned with yet another appeal made to the SC for exempting the state from the exam permanently.

Opposing statements too, took to Twitter. "Please don't oppose NEET. Just demand for improvement in our State board curriculum," tweeted Adithya, a student on Monday.

Carry your original driving licence - HC thumbs up to Govt decision

Chennai: Be prepared to get impounded or pay fine if you do not carry your original of driving licence from Wednesday, for Madras high court has refused to interfere with the state government's decision making mandatory for motorists to carry original driving documents.

Declining to pass any order restraining the authorities from insisting on original licence from drivers, the first bench of Chief Justice Indira Banerjee and Justice M Sundar adjourned to Friday the pleas moved by Tamil Nadu lorry owners association and social activist Traffic KR Ramaswamy assailing the decision of the state government.

On September 1, when the petition moved by the lorry owners association came up for hearing before a single judge, the state government gave an undertaking to defer its decision till September 5.

After recording the undertaking, the judge had directed the registry to tag the writ petition along with the plea moved by Ramaswamy pending in the file of first bench of the court and passed an interim order directing the authorities not to ask for original licences from the motorists till September 5.

Since the pleas were not taken up for hearing on Monday, petitioners requested the first bench to take up the case on Friday and to extend the single judge's interim order till then.

According to the state, it decided to insist on production of original licences only because of the fact that the state had recorded the second highest number of road accidents in the country.

It also relied on an observation made by a Supreme Court appointed committee on road safety that many motorists were driving vehicles merrily with photocopies of either suspended or cancelled driving licences, to justify its decision.

Tamil Nadu: Woman's three-minute selfie-video before suicide goes viral

TIRUPUR: A 27-year-old woman took a selfie video on her mobile phone before committing suicide on the wedding day of her former boyfriend in Uthukuli in Tirupur district. In a short while, the three-minute video went viral on social media. In the video, the woman is said to have expressed her anguish over the break up with her boyfriend before committing suicide by hanging, police said.

While the young woman's family members were reluctant to lodge a police complaint, the rural police arrested her boyfriend a day after his marriage, allegedly for abetting the woman's suicide.

A few years ago, N Revathy, a resident of Morattupalayam in Uthukuli and a school dropout, worked in a photocopy shop in Gobichettipalayam in Erode district. She had a relationship with Kumar, 27, (name changed), of Vaniputhur in Erode, pursuing MBA in a private college. The relationship continued even after they began to work in Tirupur and it lasted for seven long years. Recently, they broke up following differences, said a police officer.

Kumar later decided to marry another woman who was a relative and an MPhil graduate. A distraught Revathy warned him against marrying another woman. Police said she frequently picked up fights with Kumar over the issue and a week before the wedding she demanded that he cancel it. But, Kumar refused to do so.

Due to certain superstitions, Revathy lived with her mother Pappathi in a rented house though they had their own house in Morattupalayam. On August 30, when Kumar's marriage was scheduled, Revathy went to her own house after informing her mother. When she failed to return, Pappathi went to the house only to find her hanging from the ceiling of a room, police said.

She had talked for three minutes, expressing her deep disappointment over the break up with Kumar. The video was doing the rounds in WhatsApp, and was seized by Uthukuli police. They arrested Kumar, now working as an executive of IFFCO Tokio general insurance company. He has been booked under section 306 of the IPC. He was arrested the day after his marriage and lodged in Coimbatore central jail.
