West Bengal opposes UGC circular on viewing PM address

Kolkata: The West Bengal government on Friday said it will not direct state-run universities to follow through with the University Grants Commission (UGC) circular on viewing Prime Minister Narendra Modi`s address on September 11.

The circular asked all the vice chancellors of universities and heads of higher educational institutions to "provide opportunity and facility to the teachers and students to view" Modi`s address.

Modi would be addressing a student leaders` convention on the theme of `Young lndia, New India -- A Resurgent Nation: from Sankalp to Sidhhi` in New Delhi on the occasion of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya`s centenary celebrations and 125th anniversary of Swami Vivekananda`s address at the Chicago World Parliament of Religions.

"This is a clear attempt to saffronise education. They are taking decisions on their own without consulting us," West Bengal Education Minister Partha Chatterjee said here. 

"We did not get any directive so we will not give any instructions to universities and the idea that state-run varsities will follow through the Centre`s directive without consulting us, is wrong," Chatterjee said.

In August, the state government had issued "urgent" instructions to all schools and other educational institutions to "stop all preparations" for celebrating Independence Day 2017 in a format prescribed by the Union Human Resource Development (HRD) Ministry.

License of four KGMU teachers suspended by MCI

LUCKNOW: Medical license of four teachers at King George's Medical University(KGMU) was on Friday suspended by Medical Council of India (MCI) for the next six months. This means the doctors have also been refrained from dispelling clinical duties at KGMU or anywhere else for the same period.

Dr Shailendra Singh of the orthopaedic department, Dr Sanjeev Kumar of the general surgery department, Dr Shiuli of forensic medicine department and Dr Parul Verma of the dermatology venerology department were the ones pulled by the MCI, after the latter won the case in the high court.

"The four doctors had provided MCI wrong information on their declaration form during an MCI inspection at KGMU. They had previously appeared in other MCI inspections at private colleges which was hidden by them in the said form. Found out by MCI, the doctors were suspended but they instead took a stay from the high court against MCI's order. Now MCI has won the same case after which KGMU was through Uttar Pradesh MCI asked to carry out the suspension," informed KGMU spokesperson, Prof NS Verma.

விருதுநகர் அல்லம்பட்டியில் தேவாங்கர் சமூகத்துக்குப் பாத்தியப்பட்ட அரசு உதவிபெறும் சௌடாம்பிகா ஆரம்பப் பள்ளியில் 25 வருடங்களாகப் பணியாற்றியத் தலைமையாசியர் தங்கமணியையும், உதவி ஆசிரியர்கள் ராஜேஸ்வரி, நாகஜோதி  ஆகியோரையும் பள்ளி நிர்வாகம் இடை நீக்கம் செய்துள்ள சம்பவம், விருதுநகர் கல்வித்துறை வட்டாரத்தில் பரபரப்பை ஏற்படுத்தியுள்ளது.

இதுபற்றி தலைமைஆசிரியை தங்கமணி சார்பாகப் பேசியவர்கள், ''25 வருஷங்களாக இப்பள்ளியில் ஆசிரியராகப் பணிபுரிந்து, தற்போது தலைமையாசிரியராகப் பணியாற்றி வருகிறார் தங்கமணி. இதுவரை இப்பள்ளியை நிர்வாகம் செய்தவர்கள் இவர்மீது எந்தப் புகாரும் தெரிவித்ததில்லை, அந்தளவுக்கு இப்பள்ளியைச் சிறப்பாக நடத்திவந்தார்.

தாழ்த்தப்பட்ட சமூகத்தைச் சேர்ந்தவர் பள்ளியில் தலைமையாசிரியராக இருப்பது பள்ளி நிர்வாகத்துக்குப் பிடிக்கவில்லை. அதுமட்டுமல்லாமல், பணம் வாங்கிக்கொண்டு வேறு ஒருவரை நியமிக்கத் திட்டமிடுகிறார்கள். அதனால், அவர்மீது தேவையற்ற புகார்களைக் கூறுகிறார்கள். சாதிரீதியாகவும் இழிவுபடுத்தி பேசியிருக்கிறார்கள்.

இதுபற்றி அதிகாரிகளுக்கு தங்கமணி அனுப்பிய புகாருக்கு, அங்கு பணிபுரியும் இரண்டு ஆசிரியைகள் சாட்சி கூறியதால், அவர்களையும் இப்போது இடைநீக்கம் செய்துள்ளனர். இதற்கு கல்வித்துறை அதிகாரிகளும் ஒத்துழைக்கிறார்கள். மாவட்ட ஆட்சியர்தான் அவர்கள் மீது நடவடிக்கை எடுக்க வேண்டும்'' என்கின்றனர்.

பள்ளிக்குள் செல்ல முடியாமல் தலைமையாசிரியருடன்  மற்ற இரண்டு ஆசிரியர்களும் வெளியில் நின்றது பார்ப்போரைக் கலங்க வைத்தது.
