Madurai Junction bags award for second ‘most beautified station’

The Madurai railway division’s move to beautify the walls of the Madurai Junction station with the help of local artists has yielded results as it has been adjudged the second most beautified station in the country by the ministry of railways.

The paintings have been done with the help of local sponsors. The ministry selected Madurai as the second most beautiful station in the country along with Madhubani in the East Central Railway in the in-house competition held for the most beautiful railway station. The first prize of ₹10 lakh each was bagged by Balharshah and Chandrapur in Central Railway. The second prize winners received ₹5 lakh each. For passengers entering the air-conditioned waiting hall at the station, a pleasant surprise awaits them as the walls were painted with various murals relating to Madurai.

City medicos drown in Russia   03.05.2018

Two medical college students, studying in Crimea State Medical University in Russia, drowned in sea. Naveen, 18, of Nungambakkam and his friend Jayanth, 18, from Minjur had gone to Russia in June last year to study medicine. 

According to reports, “Three boys from their university had gone to the beach to take a swim on Tuesday, when Naveen and Jayanth drowned.” Naveen’s father works as an agent in a two-wheel showroom and Jayanth’s father works as an overseas consultant. The bodies have been handed over to the Indian embassy in Russia and will be flown to Chennai.

No objection to NEET for Indian med

All states, including Tamil Nadu, have accepted National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) for admission to Indian medicine and Siddha courses, Union minister of state for Ayush Shripad Yesso Naik announced on Wednesday.

The Union health ministry had made NEET mandatory for candidates wishing to pursue Indian medicine, just like medical or dental courses. “This exam is important to check quality of students even at the entry level. No state has opposed it, orally or in writing,” Naik said. Although some states moved courts seeking exemption, pleas have been rejected.

In February, the ministry advised all states to ensure wider publicity for NEET advising aspiring doctors to write and clear NEET 2018 scheduled for May 6.

“We have also written to states asking them to consider NEET as sole merit test for admissions to all Ayush courses,” he said.

The ministry, he said, is working on several education reforms to improve quality of education with a hope that it will encourage more people to opt for Ayush.

SHRC takes notice of patient’s death in hosp due to ‘absence’ of duty doc

State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) has taken suo motu cognisance of a media report about a patient’s death at the government Stanley hospital two weeks ago, due to the alleged absence of a night duty doctor to attend to the patient. The commission has sought a detailed report within two weeks from the directorate of medical education (DME) in connection with the incident. In the event of any default, the commission may proceed to take action as it deems fit and proper, according to the notice from the office of SHRC Judge D Jayachandran.

SHRC JudgeD Jayachandran passed the order based on a report dated April 13 in a vernacular daily.

According to the report, Sampath, 32, a resident of Vyasarpadi, was admitted to the hospital on April 9 after he suffered a paralytic attack. He was treated in a ward on the fourth floor of the hospital. Meanwhile, on the night of April 11, Sampath developed health complications and frothed at the mouth.His wife,Manimekalai tried to contact the doctor on duty at that time, but no one was there in the ward, according to the media report.

The report further quotes relatives of the victim alleging that doctors in other wards didn’t turn up to attend to Sampath despite Manimekalai’s requests. Meanwhile, Sampath breathed his last. On learning about his death, more than 50 people, including relatives of the victim, turned up outside the Stanely hospital and protested against the hospital management.

Washermanpet police and senior officials from the hospital tried to pacify the protesting relatives. Relatives alleged that the police were supporting the hospital and not probing the complaint.

CB-CID to probe leak of PM April city visit itinerary

Kancheepuram district crime branch police have registered a case against miscreants who leaked the itinerary of Prime Minister Narendra Modi who visited Chennai to inaugurate the Defence Expo – 2018 held at Thiruvidanthai in Kancheepuram district. He also visited cancer institute on April12.

The DCB police registered a case under various charges including leaking official secret, which is against the Constitution of India, apart from 7 (1) (a) Criminal Law Amendment Act based on the complaint lodged by a sub-inspector of police in Kancheepuram. Despite the case registered at the DCB, Kancheepuram, the case has been forwarded to the CB-CID office for further investigation.

The police said that they strongly believe that leaking of Prime Minister’s itinerary is a breach of security and the probe is on to find out at what level the itinerary leaked to the agitators through media people. A police officer said, “The Prime Minister’s office took it serious after a few television channels and some newspapers carried detailed itinerary of the VVIP.”

It is true that the Press Information Bureau (PIB) will intimate the media people about the VVIP’s visit prior to their office through mail or through fax to intimate the journalists.

A state intelligence officer said, “We normally maintain two lists of VVIP itinerary and normally, we release the fake list, keeping the original one for police officers and officials incharge of the convoy.”

There are more likely that the intermediary officials either from police department or bureaucrat offices may have circulated these information to the agitators through media people to avoid being caught.

“We are also closely monitoring some of the journalists whatsapp groups, which have circulated the PM’s itinerary,” said another senior police officer probing the case.

தனக்கு கார் ஓட்டிய டிரைவர், பணி ஓய்வு பெற்ற நாளில்,தனது காரில் அமர வைத்து வீடு வரை காரை ஓட்டிச் சென்று விடை கொடுத்த கரூர் ஆட்சியரின் செயலைப் பார்த்து குடும்பத்தினர் நெகிழ்ச்சி அடைந்தனர்.

கரூர் மாவட்ட ஆட்சியராகப் பணியாற்றி வருபவர் அன்பழகன். இவரது கார் ஓட்டுநராக பல ஆண்டுகளாக பணியாற்றி வருபவர் பரமசிவம். கரூரில் தொடர்ந்து பல மாவட்ட ஆட்சியர்களுக்கு டிரைவராகப் பணிபுரிந்து வந்தார்.


இந்நிலையில் பரமசிவம் நேற்று பணி ஓய்வு பெற்றார். வழக்கம் போல் நேற்று பணிக்கு வந்தார். மாலை ஆட்சியர் பணி முடித்து அவரது வீட்டிற்கு அழைத்துச் செல்வதற்காக ஓட்டுநர் பரமசிவம் காத்திருந்தார்.

மாலை 7 மணிக்கு மேல் பணி முடித்து அலுவலகத்தை விட்டு வெளியே வந்த ஆட்சியர் காரில் ஏறி அமர்ந்தார். சக அதிகாரிகள் அவரை வழி அனுப்ப போர்ட்டிகோவில் நின்றனர். அப்போது ஓட்டுநர் பரமசிவம் ஆட்சியரிடம், 'அய்யா நான் நாளை முதல் பணிக்கு வரமாட்டேன்' என்று தெரிவித்தார்.

'ஏன் என்ன பிரச்சினை?' என்று ஆட்சியர் கேட்க, ’அய்யா நாளை நான் ஓய்வு பெறுகிறேன்’ என்று ஓட்டுநர் பரமசிவம் கூறினார். 'இதை ஏன் முன்னரே சொல்லவில்லை?' என்று கூறிய ஆட்சியர் அனைவரையும் மீட்டிங் ஹாலுக்கு வரவழைத்து ஓட்டுநர் பரமசிவத்தை பக்கத்தில் அமரவைத்து மாலை அணிவித்துப் பாராட்டினார்.

பின்னர் பரமசிவம் அனைவரிடமும் பிரியாவிடைபெற்று ஆட்சியரை கடைசி முறையாக அவரது வீட்டில் விட்டுச் செல்லத் தயாரானார். அப்போது ஆட்சியர், 'பரமசிவம், இன்று நான் உங்களுக்கு கார் ஓட்டப்போகிறேன் உங்கள் வீடு எங்கே சொல்லுங்கள்?' என்று கேட்க, 'அய்யா நீங்கள் போய் எனக்கா? நான் உங்களை வீட்டில் இறக்கிவிட்டு என் வீட்டுக்குப் போகிறேன்' என பரமசிவம் மறுத்துள்ளார்.

'ஒன்றும் பிரச்சினை இல்லை. எங்களுக்காக காலம் முழுவதும் காரோட்டிய உங்களுக்காக சில மணி நேரம் நான் கார் ஓட்டக்கூடாதா?' என்று கூறி, ஓட்டுநர் இருக்கையில் அமர்ந்த ஆட்சியர் அன்பழகன் மறக்காமல் சீட் பெல்ட்டைப் போட்டு 'பரமசிவம் உங்கள் வீடு எங்கே இருக்கிறது சொல்லுங்கள்?' என்று கேட்க, 'சார், சில கிலோ மீட்டர் தள்ளி காந்தி கிராமத்தில் வீடு இருக்கிறது' என்று கூறினார்.

பரமசிவம் முன் இருக்கையில் அமர்ந்துக்கொள்ள, உயர் அதிகாரிகள் பின் இருக்கையில் அமர காரை பரமசிவம் வீட்டை நோக்கிச் செலுத்தினார் ஆட்சியர் அன்பழகன். கார் பரமசிவம் வீட்டில் சென்று நின்றவுடன் வெளியே வந்த அவரது குடும்பத்தார் ஓட்டுநர் இருக்கையில் ஆட்சியர் அமர்ந்திருப்பதையும் பக்கத்து இருக்கையில் பரமசிவம் அமர்ந்திருப்பதையும் கண்டு அதிர்ச்சி அடைந்தனர்.

ஒன்றும் பேச முடியாமல் நின்ற அவர்களைப் பார்த்து ஆட்சியர் அன்பழகன், 'வாருங்கள் வீட்டுக்குள் செல்வோம்' என்று அழைத்துச்சென்றார். வீட்டில் அவரது குடும்பத்தாரிடம் நலம் விசாரித்த ஆட்சியர் பரமசிவம் பணி ஓய்வு தனக்கு தனிப்பட்ட முறையில் இழப்பு என்று தெரிவித்து வாழ்த்திவிட்டு அவர்களுடன் புகைப்படம் எடுத்துவிட்டுக் கிளம்பினார்.

ஆட்சியரின் இந்த அணுகுமுறையைக் கண்ட ஓட்டுநர் பரமசிவத்தின் குடும்பத்தாரும், அக்கம் பக்கத்தவரும் நெகிழ்ந்து போனார்கள். ஆட்சியர் அன்பழகன் சில மாதங்களுக்கு முன் வயதான மூதாட்டி தனக்கு யாருமே இல்லை, நல்ல சாப்பாடு கூட சாப்பிட்டதில்லை என்று கூற தனது வீட்டிலிருந்து சாப்பாடு செய்து கொண்டுசென்று மூதாட்டியின் குடிசையில் அவருக்குப் பரிமாறி தானும் ஒன்றாக அமர்ந்து சாப்பிட்டார். மூதாட்டிக்கு முதியோர் ஓய்வுத்தொகைக்கான ஆணையையும் வழங்கினார் என்பது குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது.

இதே போன்று மற்றொரு சம்பவம் நடந்துள்ளது. புதுக்கோட்டை மாவட்டத்தில் தனது அலுவலகத்தில் பணியாற்றிய எஸ்.ஐ. திருஞானம் 37 ஆண்டுகள் பணி முடித்து நேற்று பணி ஒய்வு பெற்றார். இதற்காக நேற்று மாலை பிரிவு உபச்சார விழா நடைபெற்றது . இந்த விழாவில் காவல் அதிகாரிகள் பலர் கலந்து கொண்டனர்.

அனைவரும் கிளம்பிய பின்னர் எஸ்.பி. செல்வராஜ் தன்னுடைய காரில் ஓய்வுபெற்ற எஸ்.ஐ. திருஞானத்தை தனக்கு இணையாக அமரவைத்து அவருடைய வீட்டிற்கு நேரடியாக அழைத்துச் சென்று கவுரவப்படுத்தி அங்கு குடும்பத்தினருடன் சில நிமிடங்கள் பேசிவிட்டுச் சென்றுள்ளார்.

அதிகாரிகள் தனக்கு கீழ் பணியாற்றுபவர்களிடம் காட்டும் சிறிய அங்கீகாரம் வாழ்நாள் முழுவதும் அவர்கள் நினைவை விட்டு மாறாது. மேல் நாட்டில் பதவியை வைத்து கீழே உள்ளவர்களை உதாசீனமாக நடத்துவது இல்லை. இங்கே பிரிட்டீஷ் கால மனப்பான்மை காரணமாக அரசுத்துறையில் குறிப்பாக காவல்துறையில் இவ்வாறு நடக்கும் போக்கு அதிகம் உண்டு.

அதை மாற்றும் வகையில் முன்னுதாரணத்தை ஏற்படுத்திய கரூர் ஆட்சியர் அன்பழகன், புதுக்கோட்டை எஸ்.பி செல்வராஜ் இருவரும் போற்றுதலுக்குரியவர்களே.

திருப்பதிக்கு பைக்கில் செல்ல ஹெல்மெட் கட்டாயம்: மீறுவோருக்கு ரூ.500 வரை அபராதம் விதிக்கும் போலீஸார்

திருப்பதி ஏழுமலையானை தரிசிக்க, தமிழகம், கர்நாடகா ஆகிய பக்கத்து மாநிலங்களில் இருந்து பலர் பைக்குகளில் வருகின்றனர். மேலும், கடை வைத்திருப்பவர்களும் தினமும் பைக்கில் செல்கின்றனர். இந்நிலையில், மலை அடிவாரமான அலிபிரியிலிருந்து திருமலைக்கு பைக்கில் செல்வோர் ஹெல்மெட் அணிவது நேற்று முதல் கட்டாயமாக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. ஹெல்மெட் இல்லாமல் பயணிக்க திருப்பதி போலீஸார் ரூ.100 முதல் ரூ.500 வரை அபராதம் வசூலித்தனர். முன்னறிவிப்பின்றி திடீரென இதை நடைமுறைப்படுத்தியதால் பக்தர்களும் வர்த்தகர்களும் கடுமையாக பாதிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளனர்.

வெளிமாநிலங்களில் இருந்து திருமலைக்கு வந்த பக்தர்கள், தங்களிடம் அவ்வளவு பணம் இல்லை எனக் கூறிய போதிலும் அவர்களை திருமலைக்கு அனுமதிக்கவில்லை. இதனால், பலர் பைக்குகளை அலிபிரி மலையடிவாரத்தில் விட்டுவிட்டு பஸ்களில் திருமலைக்கு செல்லும் நிலை ஏற்பட்டது.


திருப்பதி மலைப்பாதையில் கடந்த 2 நாட்களுக்கு முன்பு பைக்கில் சென்ற இளைஞர் ஒருவர் விபத்துக்குள்ளாகி உயிரிழந்தார். இதன் காரணமாக, திடீரென ஹெல்மெட் கட்டாயமாக்கப்பட்டதாக தெரிகிறது.

பைக்கில் செல்பவர்கள் விபத்தில் இறந்தால் ஹெல்மெட்டை கட்டாயமாக்கும் போலீஸார், ஒரு வாரத்துக்குப் பிறகு கண்டு கொள்வதில்லை. எனவே, ஹெல்மெட் அணிவதை கட்டாயமாக்குவதை அரசு நிரந்தரமாக அமல்படுத்த வேண்டும். அதுவரை அபராதம் வசூலிப்பதை கைவிட வேண்டும். பழகுநர் (எல்) குறியீட்டுடன் வரும் கார்களையும் திருப்பதிக்கு அனுமதிக்கக் கூடாது என பக்தர்கள் கோரிக்கை வைத்துள்ளனர்.
