Linked to Rs. 4.9 cr. scam in construction of drainage network: anti-graft agency

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s nephew Vinay Bansal was arrested by the Anti-Corruption Branch on Thursday for his involvement in an alleged Rs. 4.9 crore scam related to the construction of a drainage network in north-west Delhi awarded to his firm by the PWD three years ago.

More arrests, ACB sources claimed, including those of serving Delhi government officials, were in the offing. Mr. Bansal, who according to the ACB owns 50% stake in M/s Renu Construction Company along with his late father Surender Bansal, was picked up from his home in northwest Delhi’s Pitampura area at 4 a.m. “The decision to arrest him was made on the basis of the CPWD report received by us recently,” a senior official from the ACB, who asked not to be named, said when asked about the timing of the arrest, considering that the FIRs had been registered a year ago.

The FIRs were registered on the basis of a complaint by Rahul Sharma, founder of NGO Roads Anti-Corruption Organisation, who alleged irregularities in the grant of contracts for roads and sewer lines in 2015-16.

Sent to judicial custody

Mr. Bansal was sent to a day’s judicial custody by a city court, where he fainted and had to be hospitalised, according to the ACB official.

He was was arrested on the basis of an assessment report putting his firm in the dock “on several counts” in relation to the quality of construction material used, financial irregularities and overlooking of procedural penalties as per the CPWD in the construction of a drain located in Bakoli village, north-west Delhi.

In an indirect restraint on circulation of the contents of retired IAS officer Santhanam committee report on the Nirmala Devi issue, the Madras high court said the report should be kept in a sealed cover till further orders.

“Since an apprehension has been expressed that the report of the committee is likely to be submitted before the present petition could be heard finally, and in which event the criminal investigation by CB-CID may likely be diluted, this court is of the considered view that if any report is submitted by the committee before the next date of hearing the same shall be kept in a sealed cover and await further orders from this court,” a vacation bench of Justices V Parthiban and P D Audikesavalu saidon Thursday.

The Revolutionary Youth and Students Federation had moved the court stating that if the Santhanam committee appointed by the governor was allowed to file its report on the Madurai Kamarajar University sex scandal, it might dilute the criminal investigation carried out by the CB-CID.

The federation sought to restrain the committee from filing its report till the CBCID concludes its probe.

As the government pleader opposed the PIL saying that the Madurai bench had dismissed a similar PIL, the bench directed the pleader to produce a copy of the dismissal order before the next hearing.

HC suggests varsity rope in credit card company to remit fee

As Anna University dilly-dallied in proposing a solution to the problem faced by aspiring engineering students, from rural areas, who faced difficulties in remitting the fee for online counselling, the Madras high court has suggested the university to rope in a credit card company that can collect money from students and remit them online. As of now, payment can be done only through credit, debit cards or internet banking.

A vacation bench of Justice V Parthiban and Justice P D Audikesavalu made the suggestion and directed the additional advocate-general Manishankar to get instructions from the university on the possibilities of implementing the proposal.

The issue pertains to a batch of pleas seeking a direction to the university to conduct counselling for engineering courses in online and offline modes. When they came up for hearing on Wednesday, the bench made it clear that the university cannot expect rural students to remit the fee only through the three modes of payment, as the chances of them having access to a bank account in itself was doubtful.

On Thursday morning, the additional advocate-general informed the court that the university would consider accepting the payment through demand draft and sought time to confirm the same with the university authorities. However, the additional advocate-general later informed the court that payment through DD was not possible, as online system would permit access to login only after successful payment of the fee.

To this, the court suggested that a credit card company could be requested to open counters at the facilitation centres and accept cash payment from students that, in turn, can be remitted on their behalf online. The bench then directed the additional advocate-general to get instructions from the university on the suggestion and posted the pleas to Friday for further hearing.

Last day of counselling for BTech in VIT

Counselling for admission to BTech courses at Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) commenced on Wednesday with founder and chancellor G Viswanathan handing over admission letters to the students.

According to a press release, the institute between April 4 and 16 had conducted an online admission examination to shortlist candidates for 7,985 seats available across various disciplines in its four campuses in Vellore, Bhopal, Chennai and Amaravati. The last round of counselling will be held on Friday.

நீட் விவகாரத்தில் என்ன குளறுபடி என்பது குறித்துப் பொதுவெளியில் சரியான தகவல் கள் இல்லை. ஆனால், குளறுபடி இருக்கிறது என்பது இரண்டு பக்கமும் ஒப்புக்கொண்ட விஷயம். ஒரு சில மத்திய அரசு ஆதரவாளர்களிடமிருந்து ‘படிக்கணும்னா எங்கே போட்டாலும் போகணும், வெளிநாட்டுல வேலை கிடைச்சா போகலையா?’ என்பது போன்ற பதிவுகளைப் பார்க்க முடிகிறது. அதில், கள நிலவரம் புரியாத ஒரு அறியாமையைத்தான் காண்கிறேன்.

கடந்த ஆண்டு, கோபிக்கு அருகே அந்தியூரில் ப்ளஸ் டூ படிக்கும் அரசுப் பள்ளி மாணவ - மாணவியர்களுக்காக வா.மணிகண்டன் ஒருங் கிணைத்த வழிகாட்டு நிகழ்வில் கலந்துகொண்டேன். “உங்களில் எத்தனை பேர் வீடுகளில் இணையம் பார்க்க வசதி இருக்கிறது?” என்று கேட்டேன். அந்த வகுப்பில் 100 மாணவர்களுக்குப் பக்கம் இருப்பார்கள். மூன்று கைகள் மட்டும் உயர்ந்தன. மாணவிகள் பக்கமிருந்து ஒன்றுகூட இல்லை. “மொபைல் போனில் இருக்குமே” என்றபோது, சிலர் மட்டும் “இருக்கு… ஆனால் ப்ளஸ் டூ படிக்கும்போது தொட விட மாட்டார்கள்” என்றனர். பிரவுசிங் சென்டர் என்றெல்லாம் அந்த ஊரில் எதுவும் இல்லை. இது நடப்பது ஜியோ யுகத்தில்.

இத்தனைக்கும் நான் கிராமத்தில் படித்து வந்தவன். ஆனால், 20 ஆண்டுகள் நகர வாழ்க்கை என்னை கிராமத்திலிருந்து சற்றே நகர்த்தி விட்டது. ‘நல்லா படிச்சா மேல படிக்க வெப்போம். இல்லைன்னா, இருக்கவே இருக்கு மளிகைக் கடை’ என்ற தொடர் அபாயத்துடன் பள்ளிப் படிப்பை முடித்தவன் நான்.

எனக்கு ஒரு தோழி இருந்தாள். தந்தை இல்லை. அம்மாவின் உழைப்பில் குடும்பம் ஓடிக்கொண்டிருந்தது. இவளும் அம்மாவுக்கு உதவுவாள். ஓரளவு நல்ல மதிப்பெண்ணும் எடுத்திருந்தாள். கல்லூரிகள் அத்தனையும் அரை மணி, ஒரு மணி பயணத் தொலைவில் இருக்கின்றன. கல்லூரியில் சேர்ந்தால் அம்மாவுக்கு உதவ முடியாது என்று படிப்பையே நிறுத்திவிட்டார்கள். இப்போது காலம் நிறைய மாறியிருந்தாலும் சமூக பொருளாதார இன்னபிற காரணங்களுக்காக ஒரு சிறிய அசவுகரியம் வந்தாலும் “நீ படிச்சது போதும்” என்று சொல்லும் பெற்றோர் இப்போதும் இருக் கிறார்கள். அதிகாலை எழுந்து தீவனம் அறுத்துவந்து, சாணி அள்ளிப் போட்டுவிட்டுப் பள்ளிக்குத் தயாராகிச்செல்லும் ப்ளஸ் டூ மாணவ - மாணவியரும் இருக்கிறார்கள்.

வசதி உள்ளவர்கள் எப்படியும் எங்கும் சென்று எழுதுவார்கள். சற்று சிரமப்பட்டால் உதவிகள் பெற்று வசதி இல்லாதவர்களும் எழுதிவிட முடியும். ஆனால், நாம் தேவையின்றி உருவாக் கும் உங்கள் பார்வையில் ‘சிறிய’ அந்தச் சிரமம் ஒரே ஒரு கடைக்கோடி மாணவனின் அல்லது மாணவியின் எதிர்காலத்தை உடைத்தாலும் அது பெரிய பாவம். அவன் சந்ததிக்கே நாம் செய்யும் கூட்டுத் துரோகம். மத்திய அரசு - மாநில அரசு, சிபிஎஸ்இ அதிகாரிகள், உச்ச நீதிமன்றம் என்று அத்தனை பேரும் முனைந்து செய்ய வேண்டியது அந்தச் சிரமங்களைக் களைவதுதான்; உருவாக் குவது அல்ல!

மாருதி சுசூகி நிறுவனத்தின் ஸ்விப்ட் மற்றும் பெலினோ கார்களில் பிரேக் பிரச்சினை இருப்பதாக எழுந்த புகாரயடுத்து 52,686 கார்களை திரும்பப் பெற அந்நிறுவனம் முடிவு செய்துள்ளது.

வரும் 14-ம் தேதி முதல் அந்த கார்களில் இருக்கும் பிரேக் பிரச்சினையை சரி செய்யப்படும். கார் உரிமையாளர்கள் மாருதி நிறுவனத்தில் காரை கொண்டு வந்து இலவசமாக இந்த சலுகையை பெறலாம்’’ என தெரிவிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. மாற்றப்படும் உதிரி பாகங்கள் மற்றும் சேவைக்கு எந்த கட்டணமும் வசூலிக்கப்பட மாட்டாது’’

இவ்வாறு மாருதி நிறுவனம் தெரிவித்துள்ளது.
