வேலை பார்ப்பவர்களைவிடத் தொழில் செய்பவர்கள் தொடர்ந்து கற்றுக்கொண்டே இருக்க வேண்டும். 30 வருடங்களாகச் செய்தவை முழுவதும் பயனற்றதாகப் போய்ப் புதிதாகப் படிக்க வேண்டிய சூழல் பலருக்கு வரக்கூடும். இதனால்தான், சின்னஞ்சிறு தொழில் செய்பவர்கள்கூடத் தொழில் சம்பந்தப்பட்ட நூல்களை வாசிக்கிறார்கள், தொலைக்காட்சி நிகழ்ச்சிகளைப் பார்க்கிறார்கள், ஆலோசனை பெற வருகிறார்கள்.

புதியதைத் தேடுங்கள்

“எனக்குத் தெரியாதா?” என்று எண்ணுபவர்கள் சீக்கிரமாகச் சிக்கலில் மாட்டிக்கொள்கிறார்கள். வெற்றிகரமான தொழிலதிபர்களைப் பற்றி நடத்திய பல ஆய்வுகளில் மீண்டும் மீண்டும் தெரியவருவது, அவர்கள் எல்லாக் காலகட்டங்களிலும் புதிய எண்ணங்களைத் தேடிப் போனார்கள். பணியாளர்களிடமும் வாடிக்கையாளர்களிடமும் தொடர்ந்து கருத்துகள் கேட்பவர்களாக இருந்தார்கள். இறுதி முடிவு தன்னிடத்தில் இருந்தாலும் அதற்கு முன்பாக அனைவரது கருத்துகளையும் கேட்பது மிகவும் முக்கியம். குறிப்பாகத் தங்களைவிட வயது குறைந்தவர்களின் ஆலோசனையை மதிப்பது புத்திசாலித்தனம்.

புதிதாக மொபைல் ஃபோன் வாங்குபவர்கள் குறிப்பாக 50-ஐ கடந்தவர்கள் இளையவர்களைக் கேட்டுத்தான் அதன் சிறப்பம்சங்களைத் தெரிந்துகொள்கிறார்கள். ஆனால், தொழிலில் (பல நேரங்களில் வாழ்க்கையிலேயே) வயது குறைந்தவர்களிடம் உதவி கேட்பதை ஆணவம் தடுத்துவிடுகிறது. தங்கள் அறியாமையை வெளிப்படுத்துவதில் சிக்கல் இருக்கிறது. தாங்கள் வளர்த்துவைத்த சமூகப் பிம்பம் உடைந்துவிடுமோ என்று கவலைப்படுவார்கள்.

சொந்தத் தொழில் நடத்துபவர்கள் தங்கள் ஆவணத்தைக் கட்டுக்குள் வைப்பது அவசியம். வயது, அனுபவம், திறமை, அந்தஸ்து, பதவி, வசதி எனப் பலவற்றில் குறைந்தவர்களிடம் உதவியும் ஆலோசனையும் கேட்க வேண்டி வரும். அந்தக் கட்டாயம் வந்து கேட்பதைவிடத் தாமாகத் தேடிப் போய் அறிந்துகொள்பவர்கள்தான் நிஜமான வெற்றியாளர்கள்!

கொஞ்சம் பேசலாம் வாங்க!

நான் பயிற்சி மேலாளராகப் பணி புரிந்த காலத்தில் நடந்த சம்பவம் இது. அப்போது எனக்கு வயது 30. என்னுடைய பணி, பயிற்சியாளர்களை அழைத்துவந்து என் நிறுவன மேலாளர்களுக்குப் பயிற்சி அளிக்கவைப்பது. இந்தப் பொறுப்பில் இருந்ததால் நாட்டிலுள்ள மிகப் பெரிய கார்ப்பரேட் பயிற்சியாளர்களின் பணியை அருகில் இருந்து கண்காணிக்கும் வாய்ப்பு கிடைத்தது. அப்போது, மும்பையில் ஒரு பெருநிறுவனத்தில் வைஸ் ப்ரெசிடென்ட் வேலை பார்த்தவர் அபிமானத்துக்காக எங்கள் அழைப்பில் பயிற்சி கொடுக்க வந்திருந்தார். அன்றே அவருக்கு யாருக்கும் அளிக்கப்படாத உயர்ந்த கட்டணம் கொடுத்து அழைத்து வந்திருந்தோம். அவரை உபசரிக்கும் பொறுப்பும் என்னிடம் அளிக்கப்பட்டிருந்தது. இரவு விருந்துக்கு என்னை அழைத்தவர், “கொஞ்சம் பேசலாம் வாங்க!” என்றார். எனக்கு மகிழ்ச்சியும் பெருமையும் புரிபடவில்லை. அவருக்கு வயது 55. அவரே சிறியவனான என்னை அழைத்ததில் எனக்குத் தலை கால் புரியவில்லை.

“நீங்கள் டாக்டரேட் படிச்சவராச்சே, சைக்காலஜியில் எனக்குச் சில சந்தேகங்கள் உள்ளன, நீங்கள்தான் விளக்க வேண்டும்!’ என்று ஆரம்பித்தார். கிட்டத்தட்ட மூன்று மணி நேரம் பேசினோம். ஒரு சினிமா நட்சத்திரம்போல நான் அள்ளி வீசினேன். புத்தகங்களின் பெயர்கள், ஆசிரியர்கள், புதிய போக்குகள் என அனைத்தையும் தன் பதிவேட்டில் பக்கம் பக்கமாக நிரப்பிக்கொண்டார். கார் வரை வந்து என்னை வழியனுப்பிச் சென்றார். ‘என்ன எளிமை?’ என வியந்தேன்!

மறு நாள் என் சீனியர் ஒருவரிடம் இவை அனைத்தையும் புளகாங்கிதமாகப் பகிர்ந்தேன். எல்லாம் கேட்டுவிட்டு நிதானமாகச் சொன்னார், “எப்பவும் இப்படித்தான். யாராவது ஒருத்தரை விருந்துக்கு அழைப்பார். அவரிடமிருந்து எல்லாவற்றையும் கறந்துவிடுவார்!”

தெரிந்துகொள்ள ஒரே வழி

பிறகு நிதானமாக யோசித்தேன். கூகுள் வராத காலம் அது. புத்தகத்தைத் தேடித் தேடிப் படிப்பது போல, படித்தவர்களைத் தேடித் தேடிச் சென்று பேசிக் கேட்டுக்கொள்வதுதான் புத்திசாலித்தனம். தன் ஆணவத்தைவிடக் கற்றலை முக்கியமாக நினைப்பதால்தான் இப்படிச் சிறியவர்களிடம்கூட உட்கார்ந்து கேள்வி கேட்க முடிகிறது. நான் கட்டணம் வாங்கவில்லை என்றாலும் அனைத்தையும் மகிழ்ச்சியாகப் பகிரக் காரணம் அவர் என்னை நடத்திய விதம். தன் தொழில் அறிவை மேம்படுத்தச் சிலர் செய்த மூலதனம் அந்த மூன்று மணி நேரம்! இந்தச் சம்பவம் எனக்கு மிகப் பெரிய பாடமானது.

இன்று நான் சந்திக்கும் பல பெரிய மனிதர்களிடம் இதை இயல்பாகப் பார்க்கிறேன். எதையும் கூச்சப்படாமல் யாரிடம் வேண்டுமானாலும் எதை வேண்டுமானாலும் கேட்டுத் தெரிந்துகொள்வதை அவர்கள் வாடிக்கையாக வைத்திருக்கிறார்கள்.

பல வளர்ந்த நிறுவனங்கள் ‘Reverse Mentoring’ என்ற பெயரில் சீடர்களிடம் பாடம் படிக்கும் குருக்களாக மாறி மேலாளர்களைக் கற்றுக்கொள்ள வைக்கிறார்கள். அறிவும் பணிவும் ஒருசேர வரும் மிக உன்னதமான உத்தி இது. பதவியில் சிறியவர்களுக்குத் தங்கள் கருத்தைப் பதிவுசெய்யவும், தங்கள் பங்களிப்பை அதிகப்படுத்தச் செய்யவும் இது நல்ல வாய்ப்பு.

நம்முடைய நிறுவனத்தில் உள்ள கடைநிலைப் பணியாளர்களுக்கும் மேலாளர்களுக்கும் தெரியாத பல தகவல்கள் இருக்கின்றன. அவற்றைத் தெரிந்துகொள்ள ஒரே வழி தோளில் கையைப் போட்டுத் தோழமையுடன் கேட்டுத் தெரிந்துகொள்வதுதான். எல்லாவற்றையும் பட்டுத் தெரிந்துகொள்வதைவிடப் பார்த்து, கேட்டுத் தெரிந்துகொள்தல் உத்தமம். தெரிந்துகொள்வதில் வயது வித்தியாசம் எதற்கு!

Extension of deemed university status to Karunya

Karunya Institute of Technology and Sciences has got extension to continue as a deemed university, said a release from the institution.

A joint committee of experts from University Grants Commission and All India Council for Technical Education visited the institution in November 2017 to review the progress made. After studying the developments in faculty competence, industry tie-up, placement, student start-ups among others, the committee unanimously recommended extension of deemed to be university status for five years. And, accepting the committee’s recommendations, the Ministry of Human Resource Development, in its letter dated June 8, 2018, granted approval for the extension, the release added.

To showcase its vintage assets in a more meaningful manner, the Ministry of Railways has empowered General Managers of all zones to hire the services of retired employees to revive/restore heritage items kept at rail museums across the country.

The railways approved contractual engagement of veterans to preserve, protect and showcase its vintage assets, ignoring opposition from employee unions. The retired employees, who have the expertise in maintaining steam locomotives, vintage coaches, steam cranes, semaphore signals, station equipment, steam-powered equipment etc, would be deployed on a one-year contract. The maintenance of the assets, preserved in railway museums, has not been up to the mark, though the number of visitors, particularly children, was steadily on the rise, railway sources said. Heads of Departments will now identify retired employees in good health who have the skill of guiding the process of revival and preservation of the heritage items.

Consolidated pay

A maximum of 10 retired employees up to 65 years age could be engaged in each workshop or museum at a consolidated remuneration of Rs. 1,200 per day.

However, they would not be entitled to benefits such as travel allowance or dearness allowance.

In Chennai, an average of 300 visitors, mostly children, visit the railway museum located on the Integral Coach Factory (ICF) premises. Besides 41 outdoor exhibits like steam engines, meter gauge locomotives and rail bus, the museum has contemporary paintings and sculptures created by renowned artists.

“The oldest exhibit is the fowler ploughing machine, which was designed and developed by the British in 1835. It works with steam pressure. Like in developed countries, it would be much appreciated if retired employees and service citizens come forward to voluntarily contribute relevant exhibits and share their experiences with the visitors,” a museum official said.

7 students join Sathyabama University on full scholarship

The students belong to poor economic background

It is going to be a novel experience for Jason, who has been admitted to the business administration course in Sathyabama University on full scholarship. Mr. Jason is the eldest of four siblings from Idinthakarai’s fishermen community and graduated from Class XII this year. He has set his goals already: to work in the Army. Would he consider UPSC? “Will that get me a job in the Army?” he asks. His mother rolls beedis for a living.

Kannan (name changed) and his younger brother have been admitted to the master’s programme in biotechnology on scholarship. Kannan hopes to pursue research.

“When I met the boys three years ago, they were alone at home. Their father is serving sentence for murdering their mother. The father had not seen his sons for 17 years and was suffering from depression. I took them to visit their father and he slowly recovered. He is likely to get out of prison on account of good conduct. I ensured that the boys continued their education,” said K.R. Raja, founder of the Madurai-based Global Network for Equality, which works with children of prisoners.

The boys had taken the entrance exams at several institutions, but since Sathyabama offered full scholarship they opted for it.

Kanimozhi (name changed) dreams of becoming a college teacher. The student of microbiology hails from Rameshwaram. Her father was jailed for being part of a group that killed a person in a fracas.

Rati’s (name changed) story is a little different. After Rati’s brother-in-law murdered her sister, their parents had to take care of her three nieces.

Chennai: Medicos at Stanley Medical College and Hospital staged a protest at the hospital premises on Sunday after kin of a patient allegedly slapped a medical intern at the hospital on Saturday night while administering the patient.

Doctors alleged that a patient’s relative slapped the medical intern because the patient complained of pain during IV administration at around 1.30 am on Sunday. The doctors and medical college students sat in protest demanding round-the-clock security facilities at the ward to prevent such incidents in future.

Striking doctors demanded that they would not resume work unless security is deployed in wards. The doctors also demanded separate duty rooms for male and female interns and post-graduate students, with a cot, attached bathrooms, and a security guard in each ward.

Medicos carried out emergency medical care but did not join duty for regular medical services at the hospital during the day.

Postgraduate students resumed work after an assurance from the hospital authorities that more security would be provided.

The accused was arrested after the students filed a complaint at the local police station. When contacted, the resident medical officer said the demands of the students will be considered after the recent incident to prevent such cases in future.

PUDUCHERRY: A highly venomous snake was discovered in the VIP lounge of the airport here causing flutter among staff members and officials.

Top officials including Airport Authority of India, Chairman,Guruprasad Mohapatra had in the middle of a meeting yesterday spotted the 6-feet long reptile moving beneath a couch and immediately rushed out of the lounge, police said.

A woman staff present at the spot tried to drive out the snake using a mop.

However, a police constable managed to catch the snake that had wandered in from nearby thicket and handed it over to forest department personnel, they said.

The reptile was identified as Viper, a species considered to be very poisonous.

The constable D Thiagou, attached to the India Reserve Battalion (IRBn) of Puducherry was presented a cash award and commendation certificate for his act of bravery.

Director General of Police S K Gautam presented the cash award and commendation certificate to the constable and appreciated his brave act.

The woman worker would be honoured for her courageous act tomorrow, airport sources said.
