CHENNAI : The announcement of the selection committee of the Directorate of Medical Education on Thursday that there were no vacancies in OC and BC categories in government medical colleges, self-financing colleges and Raja Muthiah Medical College and also government dental colleges has caused confusion among students and parents waiting outside the venue where counselling for MBBS and BDS courses are being held.

The seats in OC and BC category were filled up and only BDS seats in self-financing colleges were there around noon. The selection committee officials asked the candidates who were not willing to join BDS in self-financing colleges to leave. Over 1,500 candidates were called for the counselling. The candidates and parents who were disappointed after long hours of waiting entered into an argument. Later the officials clarified and asked them to get wait-listed and leave.

CLEAN CHIT TO TN 2ND RANK HOLDER

The selection committee on Thursday called R Raj Chendur Abhishek, second rank candidate in the State rank list, allegedly after the committee heard that the student had applied for medical seat in Andhra Pradesh also. Raj Chendur, native of Dharmapuri in TN, had studied class XI and XII in Andhra Pradesh. “We called him for second verification as we received news that the student has applied in Andhra Pradesh also. But, after verification, it was turned to be false,” said Dr G Selvarajan, secretary, selection committee. Raj Chendur secured 656 marks in NEET and got seat in Madras Medical College.

‘all cmc seats come under managenment quota’
The selection committee officials said that all 100 seats in Christian Medical College, Vellore would be filled under management quota. The college did not surrender any seats to the government. “They will take part in the first phase counselling itself. The first phase of counselling will end on Saturday,” said a senior official of the selection committee.

CHENNAI: Pandiyan Express, a flagship train of Madurai, has become one of the much sought-after trains for the Diwali festival this year, with the waiting list touching 1,058 for sleeper class reservation.

On Thursday, as soon as advance reservation commenced around 8 am for travelling for Deepavali festival on November 2, tickets sold out in less than five minutes. Train ticket demand for the Chennai-Madurai, Chennai-Tiruchy, Chennai-Coimbatore, Chennai-Tirupur and Chennai-Erode sections remained high.

The sleeper class waiting-list of the Pandiyan Express (Chennai-Madurai) touched 1,058, while the waiting list of the Cheran Express (Chennai-Coimbatore) reached 639. Similarly, the Chennai-Coimbatore Nilagiri Express, Chennai-Erode Yercaud Express, Chennai-Tiruchy Rockfort Express also remained most preferred trains among passengers.

The sleeper berth waiting lists for the Nilgiri Express, Yercaud Express and Rockfort Express closed at 365, 487 and 276 respectively.Each train has waiting list limits for sleeper class somewhere between 150 and 250. Once waiting lists exceeds, ticket bookings will automatically get blocked. However, due to festival demands, the IRCTC has increased the waiting list limit for many trains.

The unforeseen demand for the Pandiyan Express and other trains is attributed to upgraded IRCTC website and the provisions to forecast confirmation probability.

“The upgraded website has reduced the ticket booking time. It also has a provision to forecast the probability of getting confirmed tickets. For upto 200 and 250 sleeper waiting lists, the IRCTC predicted 45 to 60 per cent chances for RAC ticket. As for the Pandiyan Express, for 700 waiting lists the portal predicted confirmation chances at 40 per cent,” said S Balamurana, a travel agent in Chennai.Earlier, many passengers who booked their tickets through counters after spending several hours were disappointed as many they got wait-listed tickets.

அத்துமீறல்கள் என்னென்ன?

ஏற்றுக்கொள்ள முடியாத அல்லது கண்ணியத்துக்கு இழுக்கு ஏற்படுத்தும் வகையில் தவறான நடத்தைகள் அனைத்தையுமே அத்துமீறல்களாகவே எடுத்துக்கொள்ளப்படும். தரம் தாழ்த்தல், சிறுமைப்படுத்தல், அவமானப்படுத்தல், ஒருவரைத் தாக்கும் வகையில் தொடர்ந்து கருத்து தெரிவித்தல் போன்றவையும் அத்துமீறல்களாகவே கருதப்படும். இவை தவிர மிரட்டல், வெளிப்படையான மற்றும் மறைமுக அச்சுறுத்தல்கள், உடல்ரீதியான துஷ்பிரயோகம், கடிதம், மின்னணு மற்றும் சமூக ஊடகங்கள் மூலம் ஆட்சேபிக்கக்கூடிய வகையில் கருத்துகளைப் பரப்புதல் போன்ற செயல்களும் கண்டிக்கத்தவை.

மாணவர்கள், ஆராய்ச்சியாளர்கள், திட்டப்பணியாளர்கள், பணியாளர்களுக்கு முறையான வழிமுறைகளைக் கடைப்பிடிக்காமல், ஒருவருக்கு சாதகமான வகையில் நடந்துகொள்ளுதலும், எதிர்காலத்தில் வளர்ச்சிக்குத் தடங்கல் ஏற்படுத்தும் வகையில் செயல்படுவதும், கௌரவத்தைப் பாதிக்கும் வகையில் பாலினம், சாதி போன்றவற்றைக் குறிப்பிடுவதும் தண்டனைக்குரியதே!

எப்படி புகார் தெரிவிப்பது?

பாதிக்கப்படுபவர்கள், எழுத்துவடிவில் குற்றச்சாட்டைப் பதிவுசெய்ய வேண்டும். குற்றச்சாட்டுக்கான ஆதாரத்தையும் இணைக்க வேண்டும். இரண்டு மாதத்துக்குள் குற்றச்சாட்டைப் பதிவுசெய்ய வேண்டும். குற்றச்சாட்டைப் பதிவுசெய்தவுடன், அதற்கான ஒப்புதலை இரண்டு வாரத்துக்குள் சம்பந்தப்பட்டவரிடம் வழங்க வேண்டும். விசாரணையை ரகசியமாக நடத்தி, விசாரணை அறிக்கையைச் சம்பந்தப்பட்ட பல்கலைக்கழகத் துணைவேந்தர் அல்லது இயக்குநர் அல்லது கல்லூரி முதல்வரிடம் வழங்க வேண்டும். விசாரணை அறிக்கையின்மீது இரண்டு மாதங்களுக்குள் நடவடிக்கை மேற்கொள்ள வேண்டும். ஆறு மாதங்களுக்குள், குற்றச்சாட்டின்மீது நடவடிக்கை எடுத்து முடித்திருக்க வேண்டும்' என அரசாணையில் குறிப்பிடப்பட்டுள்ளது.

யாரிடம் தெரிவிப்பது?

`அத்துமீறல்களை விசாரிக்க, ஒவ்வொரு கல்வி நிறுவனத்திலும் குழு அமைக்க வேண்டும். இந்தக் குழுவில், மூத்த பேராசிரியர் ஒருவர் குழுத் தலைவராகவும், மூத்த பேராசிரியர், இணை அல்லது துணை பேராசிரியர் ஒருவர், பேராசிரியை ஒருவரும் உறுப்பினர்களாக இருப்பர். தாழ்த்தப்பட்ட மற்றும் பழங்குடி வகுப்பைச் சார்ந்தவர்களில் ஒருவர் இந்தக் குழுவில் கண்காணிப்பாளராகச் செயல்பட வேண்டும்.

என்ன நடவடிக்கை எடுக்கப்படும்?

குற்றச்சாட்டின்மீது நடவடிக்கையாக, அத்துமீறியவர்களை எச்சரிக்கைசெய்யவும், எம்.ஃபில் அல்லது பி.ஹெச்டி மாணவர்கள் பாதிக்கப்பட்டிருந்தால், அவர்களை மற்ற பேராசிரியரிடம் வழிகாட்டுதல் பொறுப்பை ஒப்படைக்கவும், பேராசிரியரிடமிருந்து வழிகாட்டுதல் பொறுப்பைத் திரும்பப்பெறவும், சம்பள உயர்வை நிறுத்தம்செய்யவும், தலைமைப் பொறுப்பில் இருந்தால் அந்தப் பொறுப்பிலிருந்து விடுவிக்கவும், அத்துமீறலின் அளவைப் பொறுத்து வேலையிலிருந்து வெளியேற்றவும், தற்காலிகமாக நீக்கவும் பரிந்துரைசெய்யலாம். ஒருவேளை முகாந்திரம் இல்லாமல் குற்றம் சாட்டினால், அவர்கள்மீது விசாரணைக்குப் பிறகு நடவடிக்கை எடுக்கப்படும்' என்று அரசாணையில் தெரிவிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.

தினமும் நெல்லிக்காய் சாறு குடிப்பது நல்லதா?




`ஒரு நாளைக்கு ஒரு ஆப்பிள் சாப்பிட வேண்டும்' என ஆங்கிலத்தில் ஒரு பழமொழி உண்டு. இந்த `ஒரு நாளைக்கு ஒன்று' பழக்கம் நெல்லிக்காய்க்கும் பொருந்தும். தினம் ஒரு நெல்லிக்காய் சாப்பிட்டால் `மலச்சிக்கல் நீங்கும், செரிமானம் சீராகும், நோய் எதிர்ப்பு சக்தி அதிகரிக்கும்'... ஆனால், எந்த உணவாக, காயாக, பழமாக இருந்தாலும் குறிப்பிட்ட அளவுக்கு மீறி உட்கொள்ளக் கூடாது. `தினமும் நெல்லிக்காய்ச் சாறு அருந்துவது நல்லதல்ல' என்கிறார்கள் மருத்துவர்கள். இது குறித்து ஊட்டச்சத்து நிபுணர் அனிதா பாலமுரளியிடம் கேட்டோம்...

* நெல்லிக்கு உடல் சூட்டைக் குறைத்து, குளிர்ச்சி ஏற்படுத்தும் ஆற்றல் உண்டு. இதை, பழம் அல்லது சாறு என எப்படி உட்கொண்டாலும் குளிர்ச்சியால் ஏற்படும் நோய்கள் தீவிரமடையும்.

* நெல்லிகாய் அதிகமாகச் சாப்பிடுபவர்கள், அதிகளவு தண்ணீர் உட்கொள்ள வேண்டும். ஒருநாளைக்குக் குறைந்தது இரண்டு லிட்டர் தண்ணீராவது அருந்துவது நல்லது. இல்லையென்றால், சருமப் பிரச்னைகள், ஒவ்வாமை, முடி உதிர்வு, முதிர்ச்சியான தோற்றம் போன்ற பிரச்னைகள் ஏற்படலாம்.

* ஏதோ ஒரு நோய் பாதிப்புக்காக சிகிச்சை எடுத்து வருபவர்கள், நெல்லிக்காய் சாப்பிட்டால் அது எதிர்வினையை ஏற்படுத்தும். குறிப்பாக, இதயப் பிரச்னை இருப்பவர்கள், நெல்லிக்காயைத் தவிர்ப்பதுதான் சிறந்தது.



* நெல்லிக்காய், லேசான தலை சுற்றலை ஏற்படுத்தும் தன்மைகொண்டது. எனினும், உடல் சார்ந்த பிரச்னைகளை ஏற்படுத்தாது. தொடர்ச்சியாக தினமும் நெல்லிக்காய்ச் சாறு அருந்துபவர்களுக்குத் தலைசுற்றல் அல்லது மயக்கம் ஏற்படலாம். எப்போதாவது நெல்லிக்காய் சாப்பிட்டு அதனால் தலைசுற்றல் ஏற்பட்டால் பிரச்னையில்லை. ஆனால், தினமும் அருந்தி, இந்தப் பாதிப்புகள் ஏற்பட்டால், மருத்துவ ஆலோசனை பெற்று பிரச்னையை முதல்நிலையிலேயே சரிசெய்துவிட வேண்டும்.

அனுமதிக்கப்பட்ட வேகத்தை விடவும் அதிக வேகத்தில் சென்றதால் கேரள ஆளுநர் சதாசிவம் அபராதம் கட்டியிருக்கும் தகவல் வெளியாகியிருக்கிறது.

சில தினங்களுக்கு முன்பு கேரளா கவர்னர் மாளிகைக்கு அருகில் இருக்கும் கவுடியார் சாலையில் கேரளா மாநில கவர்னர் சதாசிவத்தின் கார் சுமார் 80 கி.மீ வேகத்தில் சென்றது. அந்த சாலையின் உச்ச பட்ச வாகன வேகம் 55. கி.மீ மட்டுமே. அனுமதிக்கப்பட்ட வேகத்தை விடவும் கூடுதலான வேகத்தில் சென்றதால் ஆளுநரின் காருக்கு அங்கிருந்த போக்குவரத்து காவல் துறையினர் அபராதம் விதித்துள்ளனர். அபராதம் விதிக்கப்பட்ட போது ஆளுநர் சதாசிவம் காரில் பயணிக்கவில்லை என்று தகவல் வெளியாகியிருக்கிறது.



இதுகுறித்து ஆளுநருக்குத் தெரியவந்த போது அபராதத் தொகையான 400 ரூபாயைச் செலுத்திவிட்டு ரசீது பெற்றுக்கொள்ளும்படி ஓட்டுநருக்கு ஆளுநர் அறிவுரை வழங்கியுள்ளார்.

ஆளுநரின் காருக்கு அபராதம் விதிக்கப்பட்ட தகவல் போக்குவரத்துத் துறையினர் மூலமாகவே கசிந்திருக்கிறது. சட்ட விதிகள் அனைவருக்கும் பொதுவானது என்பதை இந்த சம்பவம் உணர்த்துபடியாக அமைந்திருக்கிறது. ஆளுநரின் கார் என்றபோதும் தயக்கமில்லாமல் அபராதம் விதித்த போக்குவரத்து ஊழியருக்குப் பாராட்டு குவிந்து வருகிறது.

Students of five-year M. Tech. anxious about their future



The five-year integrated M. Tech course which was being offered by the Centre for Film and Electronic Media Studies (CFEMS) in Madurai Kamaraj University is being wound up causing anxiety to students who are presently studying this course.

The M. Tech course, which had no precedence in the country was launched in 2012 under the initiative of the then Vice-Chancellor Kalyani Mathivanan.

More than Rs. ten crore worth equipment were procured. A preview theatre was built and Academy-award winning sound engineer Resul Pookutty came to inaugurate the recording studios.

After six years, two batches of students are yet to receive their degrees. Now the university has decided to stop offering the M. Tech. in Film and Electronic Studies course from this academic year, causing anxiety to the roughly 70 students presently studying in second to fifth year.

The university has decided to disband CFEMS and instead offer a two-year M. Sc. course in Film and Electronic Media through its School of Media Studies. However, admission to this course is unlikely to begin this year owing to delay in approvals, sources said.

Importantly, a proposal has been made to rent the expensive production and post-production infrastructure available at CFEMS to the film industry to generate revenue for the university, which has made the students even more agitated.

Speaking to The Hindu , a final year student said that it felt as if the university had abandoned them.

“It is an expensive course, costing us more than Rs. 50,000 a year. With the MKU itself in a confusion over whether the M. Tech. programme has proper recognition, we are worried about our future,” he said.

A fourth year student pointed out that the course was mentioned in the prospectus as a B. Tech. plus M. Tech programme.

“We were told that we can opt to leave the course after three years with just a B. Tech. degree. However, after joining, we realised that it was not the case,” he said.

Another final year student, showing pictures taken with his mobile phone, said that some expensive equipment, costing several lakhs, were infested with termites. “The equipment available here are suitable for professionally shooting a movie. But they are not maintained properly,” he said.

A senior faculty member said that by correcting the issues related to recognition of the M. Tech. programme and with state-of-the-art facilities available here, the course could be a unique opportunity for aspiring students from southern districts. “Some short films made by students have won awards at national level competitions,” he said. “If they are offering it as a two-year M. Sc programme, it will be more theory-oriented. Moreover, it will have a lot of similarities with the M. A and M. Sc programmes already offered by School of Media Studies,” he added.

When contacted, K. Karnamaharajan, Head of CFEMS, denied that there was any problem with recognition of the M. Tech course. “Two batches of students have not received their degrees because they did not apply for convocation. The students presently doing the course need not worry,” he said.

He said that the decision to stop the course was taken by MKU administration to bring uniformity in the courses it offered.

Denying that there was a proposal to ‘rent’ the available infrastructure, he said that it would instead be a ‘collaboration’ with the film industry to provide better exposure to students.
