G Balasubramanian appointed Tamil univ VC

Tamil Nadu governor Banwarilal Purohit on Saturday appointed Dr G Balasubramanian vice-chancellor of Tamil University, Thanjavur for a period of three years. Presently, he is pro-vice-chancellor at Dravidian university.

As per a press statement from the governor’s office, Balasubrmanian has served in various senior academic positions as professor, dean, head of the department. He has published 22 research papers at national and international level and authored four books.

He has functioned as an external examiner for Singapore University and at the University of Warsaw, Poland, as a visiting professor. He has carried out research on the survey, documentation and revitalization of endangered languages in the border districts of Chittoor in Andhra Pradesh, Krishnagiri in Tamil Nadu and Kolar of Karnataka and on linguistic description and assessment of language endangerment. Traffic chaos likely during MGR anniv celebration today

Avoid Kamarajar Salai, OMR near Madhya Kailash and Anna Salai near Nandanam on Sunday as vehicles bringing AIADMK workers and supporters for MGR Centenary celebration may create traffic bottlenecks.

Driving on these roads may not be a pleasant experience as hundreds of vehicles will converge at YMCA in Nandanam to drop supporters before fanning out to different parts of the city where designated parking areas have been allotted.

Police have arranged parking facilities for minibuses, vans and private buses at Guindy Industrial Estate and nearby places. AIADMK workers and others from Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, Tiruvannamalai, Villupuram, Cuddalore and Vellore shall park their vehicles on the service road off Kamarajar Salai at Marina Beach, said a press release.

People from Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Pudukottai, Karur, Ariyalur, Perambalur, Tiruchi can park their vehicles at Central Polytechnic Campus off Old Mahabalipuram Road (OMR) and nearby areas. Likewise, people from southern districts of the state including Virudhunagar, Theni, Ramanathapuram, Sivaganga, Dindigul, Madurai, Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi and Kanyakumari shall park their vehicles at YMCA army ground campus, Taluk Office Road, and on Dr MGR University premises in Guindy.

PhD must for prof’s job at Madras univ

From this academic year, a NET or SLET clearance is not enough to get an assistant professor’s job in the University of Madras. Candidates need to have a PhD. The decision was taken after the university adopted the UGC’s Minimum Qualifications for Appointment of Teachers in Universities 2018 guideline at the council meeting on Saturday.

A PhD would be required even if thecandidateshadcleared NET or SLET, officials said. There are a whole lot of changes in the way promotions of professors as well, making the conditions flexible as well as stringent. For instance, to be recruited as an associate professor, the guidelines specify a teaching experience of eight years and seven publications in UGC listed journals with a minimum research score of 75. Similarly, a professor would need 10 years of experience, 10 publications and a researchscoreof 120.Thespecification of the number of publications is part of the new guideline, officials said.

For promotions under the Career Advancement Scheme (CAS), the system has become flexible as instead of one refresher course of 21 days, the candidate can complete two week-long programmes such as a workshop, training module or completion of a Massive Open Online Course (MOOCs) course or developing content for a MOOC course. “This will ensure that a candidate is not away from teaching for a long period. The MOOC condition is also new,” said professor P Duraisamy, vice-chancellor of theuniversity,whichhas made headway in e-learning mode.

College teachers have been clearly identified as those who would have to concentrate on teaching, while research would be encouraged, but not mandatory for CAS. For instance, for promotion up to associate professor level, they are not required to have publication in UGC listed journals, officials said. The guideline has introduced a professor position in colleges and a senior professor post in universities.

CHENNAI : The Medical Council of India (MCI) and the Central government have been restrained by the Madras High Court from issuing eligibility certificates to students, who had secured less than 80 per cent marks in the qualifying examination for admission in medical colleges of foreign countries.

In the past 10 years, only 15 to 25 per cent of doctors with foreign medical degrees had managed to clear the mandatory screening test – Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE) – conducted by the National Board of Examination (NBE) to practise the profession in India, Justice N Kirubakaran pointed out. This would only make one understand that the minimum marks of 50 per cent prescribed by MCI has to be revised and higher marks have to be prescribed, as the percentage of candidates passing FMGE is very less.

Therefore, for this year, the minimum marks to be prescribed should be raised from 50 to at least 80 per cent, the judge said.Noting that when students who secure more than 95 per cent in the qualifying examinations were unable to get admission in medical course in India, the judge wondered how candidates with 50 per cent marks in the qualifying exams could be allowed to get admission in foreign medical colleges.

The judge made the observation on a writ petition from Tamarai Selvan, a foreign medical degree holder, seeking a directive to MCI to issue certificate of provisional registration, to enable him to undergo the Compulsory Rotatory Residential Internship (CRRI) in any approved medical college hospital in the State and subsequently issue permanent registration certificate on successful completion of CRRI.

CHENNAI : From next month, you don’t have to worry about the 10-minute deadline to drop your friend or relative at airport in your car. The parking fee to drop passengers departing from Chennai airport in private vehicles will be waived under the interim vehicle parking policy to be implemented at Chennai airport.

Usually, car owners tend to rush resulting in rash driving to adhere to the 10-minute deadline to avoid paying parking charges which come to around Rs 150. Cabs or yellow board vehicles pay Rs 60 as airport levy. However, while dropping passengers one has to be careful that one’s vehicle does not overstay for more than three minutes or else one will be penalised.

For ferrying passengers out of the airport, a fee of Rs 50 is being charged for parking up to 30 minutes for bus or truck, Rs 40 for cars and other vehicles and Rs 20 for two-wheelers. If the parking exceeds 30 minutes and up to two hours, bus or truck, tempo, sports utility vehicle or minibus will have to pay Rs 110 and cars Rs 100 and two-wheelers Rs 25.  ...but to be penalised for overstaying 

While dropping one has to be careful to not overstay for more than three minutes or else one will be penalised by traffic marshals. Challans will be issued to vehicles obstructing traffic by placing wheel jammers and the users will have to pay penalty

குறிப்பிட்ட வங்கியோ அல்லது பணம் தவறுதலாகப் பரிமாற்றம் செய்யப்பட்டுள்ள கணக்குக்கு உரியவரோ எந்த வகையிலும் பொறுப்பேற்க இயலாது.

ஆன்லைன் பணப்பரிமாற்றங்களில் தவறான கணக்குக்குப் பணம் செலுத்தப்பட்டால், அந்த எண்ணில் யாருக்கும் வங்கிக் கணக்கு இல்லையெனில் தானாகவே பணம், செலுத்தியவரின் வங்கிக் கணக்குக்கே திரும்ப வந்துவிடும்.

எனவே, இத்தகைய தவறுகளால் எந்தச் சிக்கலும் ஏற்படாது.

இப்படித் தவறுதலாக இன்னொருவரின் அக்கவுன்டிற்குப் பணத்தைச் செலுத்தியது தெரிய வந்தால், பணம் செலுத்தியவர், உடனடியாக வங்கியை அணுகிப் பணத்தைத் தவறுதலாகச் செலுத்தியதற்கான ஆதாரங்களைக் கொடுத்தால், செலுத்தப்பட்ட பணத்தைத் திரும்பப் பெறுவதற்கான முயற்சியில் வங்கிக் கிளை ஈடுபடும்.

அதன்படி, எந்த வங்கி அக்கவுன்டிற்குத் தவறுதலாகப் பணம் செலுத்தப்பட்டதோ, அந்த வங்கிக்கு, நடந்த தவறுகள் குறித்த விவரங்களை அளித்துப் பணத்தைத் திரும்பப் பெற நடவடிக்கை எடுக்கும்படி கேட்டுக் கொள்ள வேண்டும்.

ஏனெனில் முதல் தவறு, பணப் பரிமாற்றம் செய்தவருடையது. எனவே, கடுமை காட்டாமல் பக்குவமாக அந்தப் பணத்தைத் திரும்பப் பெற முயற்சி எடுக்க வேண்டும்.

இதில், பணத்தைப் பெற்றவர், அந்தப் பணத்தைத் தரவே முடியாதென முரண்டு பிடித்தால் மட்டும், சட்டப்படியான மேல் நடவடிக்கையில் இறங்கிப் பணத்தை மீட்டெடுக்க வேண்டும்.

பணம் தவறுதலாக இன்னொரு அக்கவுன்டுக்குச் செல்லாமல் பணப் பரிமாற்றம் செய்ய பின்பற்ற வேண்டிய வழிமுறைகள் சிலவற்றைப் பார்ப்போம்.

முதலில் ஆன்லைனில் பணப் பரிமாற்றம் செய்யும்முன்பு, எந்த அக்கவுன்டிற்கு பரிமாற்றம் செய்கிறோமோ, அந்த அக்கவுன்ட் விவரங்களை ஆன்லைனில் ஏற்றி சேமித்துவிட வேண்டும்.

இப்படிச் சேமித்துவிடுவதால், தவறான எண்ணுக்கு அனுப்பும் சூழ்நிலை ஏற்படாது.

அதேபோல, இணைய மையங்களிலிருக்கும் கணினிகளைப் பயன்படுத்துவதைத் தவிர்க்க வேண்டும்.

New train from Rameswaram to Ajmer

The Southern Railway has introduced a new Humsafar weekly express train between Rameswaram and Ajmer and set to launch the first service from Rameswaram on October 2 and from Ajmer on October 6.

Train No.19604 Rameswaram – Ajmer Express would leave Rameswaram at 10.15 p.m. on Tuesdays and arrive Ajmer at 11.25 p.m. on Thursdays. In the return direction, Train No.19603 Ajmer – Rameswaram Express would leave Ajmer at 9.40 p.m. on Saturdays and arrive Rameswaram at 03.15 a.m. on Tuesdays.

The composition of the train would be 16 AC 3-tier coaches. It would have stoppages at Manamadurai, Tiruchi, Ariyalur, Villupuram, Chengalpattu, Chennai Egmore, Gudur, Nellore, Vijayawada, Warangal, Ballarshah, Chandrapur, Sewagram, Nagpur, Betul, Itarsi, Bhopal, Santhirdaranagar, Maksi, Dewas, Lakshmibai Nagar, Fatehabad Chandrawatiganj, Ratlam, Mandsor, Nimach, Chittaurgarh, Chanderia and Bhilwara.

Welcoming the new train, Karaikudi Chamber of Commerce president Samy Dravidamani demanded stoppage of the train at Karaikudi junction. As the train would be very useful to general public and traders, the railway authorities should provide stoppage at Karaikudi junction. The train also did not have stoppages in Ramanathapuram, Paramakudi and Sivaganga, he pointed out.
