தமிழர்களின் பாரம்பரிய உடை வேட்டி ஆகும். ஆனால், இன்றைய இளம் தலைமுறையிடையே வேட்டி கட்டும் ஆர்வம் குறைந்து வருகிறது. உலக பாரம்பரியங்களை பாதுகாக்கும் யுனெஸ்கோ நிறுவனத்தால் ஆண்டுதோறும் ஜனவரி 6-ம் தேதி சர்வதேச வேட்டி தினம் அறிவித்துள்ளது. மத்திய அரசும் உலக வேட்டி தினம் கடை பிடிக்க மாநில அரசுக்கு அறிவுறுத்தியுள்ளது.

இதன்படி நாளை 6ம் தேதி புதுச்சேரி அரசு துறைகளில் உலக வேட்டி தினம் கொண்டாட சுற்றிக்கை அனுப்பப்பட்டுள்ளது. தலைமை செயலக சார்பு செயலர் கண்ணன் அரசு துறைகளுக்கு அனுப்பியுள்ள சுற்றிக்கையில், கைத்தறி பயன்பாட்டை கொண்டு வரும் வகையில் நாளை 6ம் தேதி உலக வேட்டி தினம் கடை பிடிக்கப்படுகிறது.எனவே புதுச்சேரியில் உள்ள அனைத்து துறை அரசு அதிகாரிகள், ஊழியர்கள் வேட்டி தினத்தை கடைபிடித்து அன்றைய தினம் வேட்டி அணிந்து வந்து ஏழை நெசவாளர்களின் வாழ்க்கை தரத்தை உயர்த்த முன்வர வேண்டும்.இவ்வாறு சுற்றறிக்கையில் கூறப்பட்டுள்ளது.

TIRUVANNAMALAI: News of victory in rural body polls brought joy to many on Friday. However, for M Dhanasekaran, an employee at a Cooperative Department ration shop, joy was twofold as both his wives won panchayat president posts in Vandavasi panchayat union and Minister for Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments ‘Sevoor’ S Ramachandran congratulated him for the victory.

Selvi (45), the first wife of M Dhanasekaran, has been re-elected to the post from Vazhoor Agaram panchayat. She secured 345 votes and won for a second time. The village has an electorate of 1,600.
“My wife had performed well in her first tenure, between 2011 and 2016. So, people have elected her again,” Dhanasekaran told Express.

His second wife Kanchana won in Koilkuppam panchayat securing 542 votes. Joy found no bounds for Dhanasekaran, who was on a thanksgiving tour, flanked by Selvi and Kanchana.

Being an AIADMK supporter for long, he also got a surprise call from HR&CE ‘Sevoor’ S Ramachandran wishing him for the win.

Madurai family robbed of jewellery, Rs 2.8 lakh at gunpoint

MADURAI: An unidentified gang robbed 170 sovereign gold jewellery and cash of Rs.2.8 lakh at gunpoint from a family in the city on December 27, 2019, during the first phase of rural local body.

The incident came to light after the victim launched a complaint to the police on Friday, with a delay of six days.

The police, who were tight-lipped on the robbery, said that the complainant was frightened to launch a complaint, hence there was a delay.

According to sources, S Gunasekaran, a resident of Appadurai Nagar 1st Street in Koodal Nagar of Madurai was at home on 27 December along with his family members.

While so, a gang of five including a woman, gained entry to the house by opening the backside door posing them as police personnel with arms.

The gang had told that they wanted to raid the house to check whether Gunasekaran had stocked any banned products in the house.

During the bogus raid, the miscreants had taken 170 sovereign gold jewellery and cash to the tune of Rs.2.8 lakh.

When Gunasekaran questioned, he was threatened at gunpoint.

The miscreants also learnt that he had cash in his bank account and took him in his car to the bank to withdraw the money. However, due to first phase of election, the bank was shut down on the day.

Later, the gang abandoned him at Othakadai and escaped from the spot.

Following the incident, the man approached the Koodal Pudur police on January 3 and the police registered case and initiated an investigation.

MADURAI: Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation (TTDC), for the first time, will be organising a special tour to Alanganallur Jallikattu venue on January 17. Speaking to TNIE, an official from TTDC said that they have planned a three day tour programme to Madurai as part of their annual promotional activity. The special buses of TTDC will leave Chennai on January 16. After breakfast in Hotel Tamil Nadu, the tourists would be taken to the venue of Alanganallur Jallikattu on January 17.

Separate seating arrangements will be made available at the gallery.
The following day, guided by licensed tourist guides, the tourists would be taken to various destinations including Meenakshi Amman Temple, Thirumalai Nayakkar Mahal, Alagar Kovil and Gandhi Museum.

CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu government has warned its employees that it will take disciplinary action against them if they participate in the all-India stir on January 8 announced by Central trade unions and employees associations.

In a communication to State government departments on Friday, the Chief Secretary said participation of government servants in the stir or demonstration or any other form of agitation affecting normal functioning of government service is in violation of conduct rules and the period of absence will be considered as unauthorised.

Urging heads of departments to send a consolidated report on attendance position in various departments across the State up to the lowest level before 10.30 am on that date, the Chief Secretary said any government employee participating in the stir will not be entitled to pay and allowances. Part-time employees and those on consolidated pay will be liable to be discharged from service.

The communication said application of casual leave or any other leave, other than medical leave, will not be entertained. This comes after 10 Central trade unions on Friday said they will go ahead with their general strike or ‘Bharat Bandh’ on January 8.
