The salaries of secondary school teachers who are protesting in Chennai and other districts demanding equal pay for equal work have been stopped for the month of January.
The Secondary School Teachers' Association (SSTA) has been protesting in Chennai since December 26, demanding an end to wage discrepancies. Similarly, teachers in other district capitals including Coimbatore, Madurai, and Trichy are also boycotting classes and protesting. The strike by secondary school teachers continued for the 36th day on Friday.
Meanwhile, in a circular sent to all district education officers by the Department of Elementary Education on January 7, government employees and teachers who participate in the strike without attending work should be taken into account as unpaid leave on the basis that if they do not attend work, they will not be paid. Teachers who participate in the strike and do not attend work (except those who are unable to attend due to medical reasons based on a medical certificate) should not be allowed any other leave. It was stated that the period of absence from work should be allowed as unpaid leave and recorded in the attendance register.
In this situation, the salaries of the protesting secondary school teachers for the month of January have been completely stopped. At the same time, 70 to 80 percent of the salaries of some teachers have been deducted.
The protesting teachers said that the salaries of the protesting secondary school teachers for this month were not paid into their bank accounts on Friday. Meanwhile, the salaries of the teachers who did not participate in the protest have been paid. They said that regardless of any financial loss, the protest will continue until our demands are met.

இதன் காரணமாக வரும் பிப். 3 முதல் ஏப். 5-ஆம் தேதி வரை தஞ்சாவூா் - சென்னை எழும்பூா் உழவன் விரைவு ரயில் (எண்: 16866), கொல்லம் - சென்னை எழும்பூா் அனந்தபுரி அதிவிரைவு ரயில் (எண்: 20636), ராமேசுவரம் - சென்னை எழும்பூா் விரைவு ரயில் (எண்:16752) ஆகியவை தாம்பரத்திலேயே நிறுத்தப்படும்.
அதேபோல், மறுமாா்க்கமாக பிப். 4 முதல் ஏப். 6-ஆம் தேதி வரை எழும்பூருக்குப் பதிலாக உழவன் விரைவு ரயில் (எண்: 16865) இரவு 11 மணிக்கும், கொல்லம் அனந்தபுரி அதிவிரைவு ரயில் (எண்: 20635) இரவு 8.20 மணிக்கும், ராமேசுவரம் விரைவு ரயில் (எண்: 16751) இரவு 9.05 மணிக்கும் தாம்பரம் நிலையத்திலிருந்து புறப்பட்டுச் செல்லும்.
சென்னை எழும்பூரிலிருந்து மும்பை செல்லும் அதிவிரைவு ரயில் (எண்: 22158), வரும் பிப். 4 முதல் ஏப். 4-ஆம் தேதி வரை எழும்பூருக்குப் பதிலாக சென்னை கடற்கரையிலிருந்து மாலை 6.50 மணிக்குப் புறப்பட்டுச் செல்லும்.

Indore : A sharp surge in gold and silver prices, and the subsequent increase in costs of academic medals, has complicated preparations at Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya for its upcoming convocation in Indore, Madhya Pradesh. This year, the university will award 206 gold medals and 22 silver medals. However, procurement became a challenge as no agency responded to the first tender, forcing the university to issue a fresh one.
During the 2024 convocation, the university had procured gold medals at ₹2,500 each and silver medals at ₹2,000. Present estimates place the cost of a gold medal at nearly ₹15,000 and a silver medal above ₹7,500 — an increase of about 500% and 275% respectively.
Officials attributed the steep rise to sustained increases in bullion prices since Sept 2024, along with higher making charges, polishing cost, and GST. Each gold medal is made on a 20gm silver base coated with about 400mg of 24-carat gold, not solid gold.
Even so, higher metal prices have sharply pushed up manufacturing costs. “The medals will be ready before the ceremony and the university will not compromise on design, weight, or quality. The tenders will be opened in a day or two and the university is ready to bear the added cost as per present gold and silver prices,” DAVV registrar Prajwal Khare told TOI. At the 2024 convocation, President Droupadi Murmu conferred medals and degrees on toppers.

CUDDALORE: Members of the Joint Action Committee (JAC) of the Annamalai University's teachers, employees and pensioners associations began an indefinite sit-in protest on the university campus at Annamalainagar in Chidambaram on Tuesday, demanding immediate settlement of pending dues.
Earlier, under the banner of the JAC, teachers, employees and pensioners held a hunger strike on January 22 to press their demands. As there was no response, teachers and employees decided to boycott work and participated in the sit-in protest from Tuesday.
The demands include immediate grant of promotions, payment of monetary benefits and arrears under the Seventh Pay Commission to teachers and employees, regularisation of NMR and consolidated pay for staff who have not been regularised for the past 15 years, and disbursement of monthly pensions, which have not been paid to pensioners for the past 14 months.
The members also sought settlement of retirement benefits, including commutation, earned leave surrender amounts and gratuity, which have not been fully paid even years after retirement.
Addressing the protesters, Prof C Subramaniyan, JAC coordinator, said, “We are demanding immediate implementation of promotions, Seventh Pay Commission benefits and payment of long-pending pensions and retirement dues. As there has been no action, we have been forced to intensify the protest.”
As a large number of professors, assistant professors and employees boycotted work and joined the sit-in protest, police personnel from Annamalai Nagar were also deployed on the campus. Joint coordinators A Ravi, Prof Ilango, Madhiyazhagan and Kapiladev were present.

கோரிக்கைகளை நிறைவேற்ற வலியுறுத்தி மருத்துவ மாணவா்களுக்கு பாடம் கற்பிக்காமல் வகுப்புகளைப் புறக்கணிக்கும் போராட்டத்தை வெள்ளிக்கிழமை (ஜன. 29) முதல் முன்னெடுக்க உள்ளதாக அரசு மருத்துவா்கள் தெரிவித்தாா்.
அதேபோன்று பயோமெட்ரிக் வருகைப் பதிவையும், ஆய்வுக் கூட்டங்களையும் புறக்கணிப்பதாக அவா்கள் அறிவித்துள்ளனா்.
முன்னாள் முதல்வா் கருணாநிதி ஆட்சியில் வெளியிடப்பட்ட அரசாணை 354-ஐ மறு ஆய்வு செய்து அரசு மருத்துவா்களுக்கான திருத்தப்பட்ட ஊதியம் வழங்க வேண்டும்; ஆரம்ப சுகாதார நிலைய மருத்துவா்களுக்கான படிகள் ரூ.3,000 வழங்க வேண்டும்; 20 ஆண்டுகள் கடந்த முதுநிலை மருத்துவா்களுக்கு ஊக்கத்தொகை வழங்க வேண்டும்; நோயாளிகளின் எண்ணிக்கைக்கு ஏற்ப புதிய மருத்துவ பணியிடங்களை உருவாக்க வேண்டும் என்பன உள்ளிட்ட கோரிக்கைகளை வலியுறுத்தி பல ஆண்டுகளாக அரசு மருத்துவா்கள் போராடி வருகின்றனா்.
இதற்காக, அனைத்து அரசு மருத்துவா்கள் சங்கங்களின் கூட்டமைப்பு (ஃபோக்டா) சாா்பில் 48 மணி நேர தொடா் உண்ணாவிரதப் போராட்டத்தை அரசு மருத்துவா்கள் ஸ்டான்லி மருத்துவமனையில் கடந்த புதன்கிழமை தொடங்கினா்.
மக்கள் நல்வாழ்வுத் துறை அமைச்சா் மற்றும் செயலருடன் நடைபெற்ற பேச்சுவாா்த்தையில் உரிய தீா்வு எட்டப்படவில்லை. இதையடுத்து அடுத்தகட்ட போராட்டத்தை முன்னெடுக்க உள்ளனா்.
இதுதொடா்பாக அனைத்து அரசு மருத்துவா் சங்கங்களின் கூட்டமைப்பின் ஒருங்கிணைப்பாளா்கள் டாக்டா் ராமலிங்கம் கூறியதாவது:
கரோனா பெருந்தொற்று காலத்தில் தமிழக மக்களை தனியாா் மருத்துவமனைகள் கைவிட்ட நிலையில், ஆயிரக்கணக்கான மக்களின் உயிரை அரசு மருத்துவா்கள் காப்பாற்றினா். இதுவரை அரசு மருத்துவா்களின் கோரிக்கைகள் நிறைவேறவில்லை. மற்ற மாநிலங்களைக் காட்டிலும் மிகக் குறைவான ஊதியமே தமிழகத்தில் அரசு மருத்துவா்களுக்கு வழங்கப்படுகிறது.
எங்களுக்கு ஊதிய உயா்வு அளிப்பதால் பெரிய நிதிச் சுமை எதுவும் அரசுக்கு இல்லை. அரசு மருத்துவா்களின் கோரிக்கைகளை நிறைவேற்றாதபட்சத்தில் வகுப்புகள், பயோமெட்ரிக் வருகைப் பதிவு, ஆய்வுக் கூட்டங்களை புறக்கணிக்கும் போராட்டத்தை முன்னெடுக்க உள்ளோம் என்றாா் அவா்.
