Now, you can order food from Ola's updated app

BENGALURU: Taxi aggregator Ola has launched a food ordering service called Ola Cafe.

This looks similar to rival Uber's 'Fresh' lunch and dinner service that it started piloting in the US last year, and appears to be an effort to beat Uber to it in India.

Ola's website says the food it brings is handpicked from top-rated restaurants close to the customer's location. And it promises to make the delivery in less than 20 minutes. To get the option to use the service, you will first need to upgrade the Ola app to the latest version.

Once you do that, a 'Cafe' option appears alongside those little images of cars and autorickshaw on the bottom slider.

Press that and you can select your meal and quantity and place the order. The delivery person will call you once he is near your area to know the exact delivery point. The website says you can pay by either Ola Money or cash.

The service starts at 12 noon and provides a lunch service till 3 pm, followed by snacks between 3 pm and 7 pm, and dinner between 7 pm and 11 pm.

The website says the service is currently available in select parts of Mumbai, but the visuals it provides indicates also locations in Bengaluru.

A number of startups have entered the food service business, attracted by the growing number of office-goers who order lunch out, and the increasing trend of young families having little time to cook food at home and hence ordering dinner out. Ola has the advantage of having a ready-made logistics service. Whether it will use the same fleet of cars and autorickshaws to deliver food is not clear.

For 6-month stay in UK, pay health surcharge..TIMES OF INDIA

LONDON: With less than two months to go for the general election in the UK, the government has clamped down on migrant benefits. From April 6, nationals from outside the European Economic Area (EEA), including those from India, coming to live in the UK for longer than six months will be required to pay a 'health surcharge' to gain access to the National Health Service (NHS).

So, Indians will have to pay an additional £200 per year (Rs 19,000) as health surcharge as a fresh fee. Students will have to pay £150 (Rs 14,000). The new fee is bound to hit the already dipping market of Indian students visiting Britain for higher education. Indians coming on an intra-company transfer (ICT Tier 2 visa) will, however, be exempt from the charge. Visa applicants will need to pay upfront for the total period of their UK visa.

Till now, non-EEA nationals coming to work, study or join family members have received free medical treatment under the UK's NHS in the same way as a permanent resident.

Immigration has become a major topic for the upcoming general election, with most political parties promising either to cut down on the number of foreigners allowed to come into the UK to work or curbing the benefits they receive. "International students cost the NHS around £430 million per year and over £700 per head," the Foreign & Commonwealth Office said in a statement. "The surcharge for students will be just £150 per year, a fraction of their true cost to the NHS. It is 1% of the cost of studying in the UK and is well below the price students pay for private health insurance in competitor countries, such as Australia and the USA."

British immigration and security minister James Brokenshire said: "The health surcharge will play a vital role in ensuring Britain's most cherished public service is provided on a basis that is fair to all. For generations, the British public have paid their taxes to help make the NHS what it is today — the surcharge will mean temporary migrants will also pay their way."

UK's visas and immigration department has made it clear that visas will not be granted to applicants if the health surcharge is not paid. When an application is refused, rejected or withdrawn, the charge will be refunded. The changes, however, will not affect visitors coming to the UK on a standard visit visa, regardless of its length.

Indians staying longer than six months will have to pay an additional £200 per year as health surcharge as a fresh fee.

Stiff jail term, 90% penalty for black money abroad

NEW DELHI: The Modi government on Friday unveiled a set of stringent provisions, including a 90% penalty on those who have undisclosed foreign assets and income overseas as it introduced a Bill to deal with black money stashed abroad. This will be above the 30% levy on the value of assets or income that will be imposed.

But those who want to avoid the hefty penalty will be given the option to pay 30% penalty of the value of undisclosed assets and avoid prosecution, the Undisclosed Foreign Income and Assets Bill introduced in the Lok Sabha proposed. Although the government wants the law to be active from April 2016, it has not specified how long the one-time compliance window would be open. The Bill has also detailed safeguards to prevent any misuse of the stiff provisions by tax authorities.

Apart from penalty, the bill provides imprisonment of up to 10 years for concealment , non-disclosure, false declaration as well as abetment. The provision for abetment can put financial advisors and chartered accountants in the crosshairs of the law should they be deemed guilty of cooking the books.

"It's not an amnesty scheme because under amnesty you only pay tax, and no penalty. Here the requirement is to pay tax at 30% and equivalent 30% as penalty. The intention of the government is not to give a soft landing facility to anyone. The one-time compliance opportunity is to enable such people who have hidden assets abroad to come clean and avail of the opportunity. It is not a revenue mobilization measure," revenue secretary Shaktikanta Das told TOI.

The course was aimed at creating a multi-skilled workforce for the growth of health industry by generating employability skills such as meticulous attention, comfortable use of equipment, interpersonal skills and patient dealing skills.

"The students who pass their higher secondary examinations of Goa board with vocational course 'health care assistant' with changed nomenclature as 'healthcare sciences' have been granted vertical mobility and are eligible for admission to the BA/BSc/BBA/Home Science programme of the Goa university," the Goa board circular issued in February states.
