தேவதானப்பட்டி:எருமலைநாயக்கன்பட்டியில் கடும் குடிநீர் பிரச்னை நிலவுகிறது. ஒரு குடம் குடிநீர் ரூ. 4க்கு விற்பனை செய்யப்படுவதால் வேறுவழியின்றி வாங்கி மக்கள் பரிதவிக்கின்றனர்.பெரியகுளம் ஒன்றியம் எருமலைநாயக்கன்பட்டியில் நான்கு ஆயிரத்திற்கும் மேற்பட்ட மக்கள் வசிக்கின்றனர். குடிநீர் தேவை அதிகமாக உள்ளது. இவர்களுக்காக இரண்டு கிலோ மீட்டர் துாரம் உள்ள வேட்டுவன்குளம் கண்மாயில் 'போர்வெல்' அமைத்து நீர் சப்ளை செய்யப்பட்டது. மழையின்றி வறட்சி காரணமாக குடிநீர் 'போர்வெல்'லில் கிடைத்த நீரின் அளவு குறைந்து விட்டது. இக்கிராமத்தில் கடந்த 45 நாட்களுக்கு மேலாக நீர் சப்ளை இல்லை.

பொம்மிநாயக்கன்பட்டி ரோட்டில் உள்ள போர்வெல்லில் அவ்வப்போது நீர் வற்றி ஊறுவதால் அங்கு மோட்டார் இயக்கி பிடித்து வருகின்றனர். மேலும் காளிம்மன்கோயில் அருகில் உள்ள கிணற்றில் வாளி மூலம் நீரை எடுத்து வருகின்றனர். தேவையான நீருக்காக தோட்ட வெளிகளுக்கு சென்று அவதிப்படுகின்றனர்.

ஒருகுடம் ரூ. 4குடிப்பதற்கு நீர் கிடைக்காத நிலையில் டேங்கர் லாரிகள் மூலம் வெளியூர்களில் இருந்து நீர் கொண்டு வந்து விற்பனை செய்யப்படுகிறது. ஒரு குடம் நீர் நான்கு ரூபாய்க்கும், 25 குடம் 100 ரூபாய்க்கும் வாங்கி மக்கள் பரிதவிக்கின்றனர்.இக்கிராமத்தைச் சேர்ந்த ராஜாமணி கூறுகையில், ''குடிநீர் கிடைக்காததால் தேவதானப்பட்டி காமாட்சி அம்மன் கோயில் அருகில் ஆட்டோவில் சென்று நீர் பிடித்து வருகிறோம். டேங்கர் லாரிகளில் கிடைக்கின்ற நீரை வேறு வழியின்றி விலைக்கு வாங்கி பயன்படுத்துகிறோம். இப்பிரச்னையை தீர்க்க மாவட்ட நிர்வாகம், சம்பந்தப்பட்ட அதிகாரிகள் நடவடிக்கை எடுக்க வேண்டும், ''என்றார்.

Cancellation, regulation of passenger trains

Due to line block in connection with engineering work between Nalli and Kovilpatti for 43 days from August 1 to September 19, the following changes are made.

Trains fully cancelled: Train Number 56764 Tiruchendur – Tirunelveli passenger scheduled to leave Tiruchendur at 4.30 p.m. will be fully cancelled for 43 days from August 1 except Thursdays.
Train Number 56765 Tirunelveli – Tiruchendur passenger scheduled to leave Tirunelveli at 6.35 p.m. will be fully cancelled from August for 43 days except Thursdays.

Train regulated: Train Number 56769 Palani – Tiruchendur passenger will be regulated at Sattur for 2 hours and will reach Tiruchendur late by 270 minutes from August for 43 days except Thursdays, an official statement said.

Train Number 09458 Gandhidham – Tirunelveli special train, scheduled to leave Gandhidham on July 31 has been cancelled due to heavy rains that caused water logging and washout of railway tracks at Maliya Miyana railway station in Gujarat. Consequently, the pairing train Train Number 09457, scheduled to leave Tirunelveli on August 3 has also been cancelled.

Six suspected dengue cases at Mannargudi GH

TIRUVARUR, August 01, 2017 00:00 ISTrsons have been receiving treatment at the Mannargudi Government Hospital for suspected dengue symptoms. Health officials have taken intensive dengue outbreak activities at Paravakottai village near Mannargudi from where four of them were admitted.

A couple of days back, around 20 people from Paravakottai visited the Mannargudi GH with complaints of intermittent fever and giddiness.

Their blood samples were sent for examination and it was found four of them were positive for dengue. Also, two other persons from Serumangalam and Savalakkaran villages were also found to be affected by dengue the same time.

All the six have been provided with specialised treatment at the Mannargudi GH.
Last month, a section of the Paravakottai villagers complained of diarrhoea and vomiting along with fever and it was later found that sewage water had mixed with potable water supply system. Immediately, officials attended to the problem and were in fact monitoring the situation when the dengue issue hit the village now.

Deputy Director of Health Services, Tiruvarur, M. Senthil Kumar, said that three doctors, 30 paramedical staff and field workers have been deployed at the village to intensively undertake dengue prevention activities. MGNREGS workers have been pressed into service to clean up the village and rid it of dengue mosquito sources. Nilavembu concoction was also being supplied to the villagers.

‘Approach doctors’

People must first approach the doctors instead of getting fever symptoms treated using medicines bought across the counter without any proper medical advice, Dr. Senthil Kumar said. Similar efforts would be taken at Savalakkaran and Serumangalam villages, he added.

Hike in platform ticket rate

Southern Railway, Tiruchi Division, has increased the price of platform tickets at Tiruchi Junction, Velankanni, Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur, Kumbakonam and Thanjavur Railway Stations.

The platform tickets has been increased from Rs. 10 to Rs. 20 with effect from August 1 at the Tiruchi Junction and from August 15 at other stations mentioned above.

The price has been increased to regulate rush and decongest the stations, besides preventing unauthorised entry, a press release from Tiruchi Division here said.

The revised price of platform ticket will be effective for a period from August 1 to September 30 at Tiruchi Railway Junction.

Special fares to five destinations

Scoot, the low-cost, medium-to-long haul arm of the Singapore Airlines Group, has started flying out of the Tiruchi Internationial Airport, after subsuming Tigerair, another subsidiary, with promises of cost rationalisation and single network operation for hasslefree travel to distant locations.
The last flight of Tigerair Singapore departed Singapore for Tiruchi on July 24, nine months after the two airlines nnounced their intention to pursue a single brand and operating licence under the enhanced Scoot brand.

Scoot's five other new destinations that were hitherto running under Tigerair are Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Kochi and Lucknow.

To celebrate the merger, a special one-way promotional fare from Tiruchi will start from Rs. 5,599 to Singapore, Rs. 8,499 to Bali, Rs. 9,799 to Hong Kong, and Rs. 11,199 to Melbourne/Sydney, Bharath Mahadevan, Country Head, India, Scoot, told mediapersons on Monday.
Tiruchi being a large market for the airlines, Scoot was looking forward to increasing its daily frequency of flights from Tiruchi to Singapore from two services a day at present to 12-15 in seven to eight years.

Tiruchi was the only airport in India from where Scoot was operating two flights a day, Mr. Mahadevan said.

Five new services
The addition of the five new services would bring Scoot's total destination count to 65 across 18 countries.

The current Tigerair fleet would be progressively repainted, and the complete livery change was targeted for completion by mid-2018, Mr. Bharat Mahadevan added.

Students petition for and against NEET

The Collectorate premises here witnessed two different groups of students petition the Collector for and against National Eligibility-Cum-Entrance Test (NEET) on Monday.

Those who favoured the exam said many of them completed Plus Two in State Board syllabus last year and spent another year preparing for NEET. They said Tamil Nadu getting an exemption from NEET would doom their dream of becoming doctors.

Those against NEET said it affected State Board students, particularly those from rural areas. Private coaching centres, which were planning to make money through NEET coaching, were lobbying for it, they said.
