தேனி; தேனி அருகே கோயில் திருவிழாவில் பங்கேற்ற 400க்கும் மேற்பட்டோருக்கு அதிக வெளிச்ச மின்விளக்கால் கண்பாதிப்பு ஏற்பட்டது.தேனி அருகே கொடுவிலார்பட்டியில் சவுடாம்பிகை அம்மன் கோயில் திருவிழா நான்கு நாட்களாக நடந்து வருகிறது. நேற்றுமுன்தினம் இரவு நெஞ்சில் கத்தியை வைத்து கீறும் நேர்த்திக்கடன் செலுத்தினர். ரத்தகாயங்களில் விபூதி வைத்தனர்.அருகில் இருந்தவர்களின் கண்களில் விபூதி துாசி விழுந்துள்ளது. விபூதியில் ரசாயனம் கலந்ததால் கண் பாதிப்பு ஏற்பட்டதாக தகவல்கள் பரவின.தேனி கண் மருத்துவமனைகளுக்கு 500க்கும் மேற்பட்டவர்கள் வந்தனர். அரவிந்த் கண் மருத்துவமனையில் மட்டும் 42 குழந்தைகள் உட்பட 349 பேர் சிகிச்சைக்காக குவிந்தனர். சிறிது நேரத்தில் சிகிச்சை பெற்று வீடு திரும்பினர்.ரசாயனம் இல்லைதிருவிழா நிர்வாக குழு உறுப்பினர் வைரவன் கூறியதாவது: நிர்வாகத்தின் செலவில் அனைவரையும் மருத்துவமனைக்கு அழைத்து வந்துள்ளோம். விபூதியை ஆய்விற்கு அனுப்பினோம். அதில் எந்த ரசாயனமும் இல்லை என்று கூறிவிட்டனர், என்றார்.கண் பாதிக்கப்பட்ட நாகராஜ் கூறியதாவது: நிகழ்ச்சியின் போதே கண்களில் எரிச்சல் ஏற்பட்டது. காலையில் எழுந்தபோது கண்களை திறக்க முடியவில்லை, என்றார்.கண் டாக்டர்கள் கூறியதாவது: திருவிழாவில் அதிக வெளிச்சம் தரக்கூடிய விளக்குகள் பொருத்தப்பட்டிருந்ததே கண்பாதிப்பிற்கு காரணம். கண்களுக்கு சொட்டுமருந்து தரப்பட்டுள்ளது. ஒரே நாளில் அனைவருக்கும் குணமாகிவிடும், என்றனர்.

Three women chat with the PM about their switch from firewood to LPG stoves

It’s not every day that you get a request from the Prime Minister to cook dosa for him. But for three lucky women from Shoolagiri taluk in Krishnagiri district of Tamil Nadu, Monday happened to be that day.

At first, Rudramma was quite casual about the call she got from the local gas agent, informing her about a proposed “meeting” with the Prime Minister. “I said I can't come, I have an infant to take care of,” she says. “But they compelled me, told me to arrange for someone to take care of the child.” That was on Friday.

On Monday, Ms. Rudramma became one of the three women beneficiaries from Tamil Nadu, under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (a government scheme that seeks to replace unclean cooking fuels with LPG in rural India), to interact with Prime Minister Narendra Modi over video conference. By the end of her interaction, her initial indifference had turned into exhilaration.

With the Indian Oil Corporation’s coordinator as the translator, the women responded to the PM’s queries.

“He asked us how we liked the new gas stoves. I said it was helping us cook faster than before. Then he asked us if we cook idli and dosa, and we said yes,” says Rudramma. “He then said that he will come home next time and that we should cook dosa for him. Now I’m waiting for everyone in the village to come back from work in the evening, so that I can tell them all that I spoke to the PM.”

“I’m just very happy,” says Chandra, who also took part in the interaction. “I told the PM, no more burning eyes, no more struggles to light up the firewood, no more embers to deal with.”

Ms. Rudramma, Ms. Chandra and Eashwari, who belong to the Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe and the Most Backward Community, respectively, at Melumalai village in Shoolagiri, were given LPG connections in April.

As new entrants to the scheme, the women had been short-listed by the local gas agent at the request of the IOC. The videoconference was held at the Krishnagiri Collectorate in the presence of Collector C. Kathiravan. Such interactions with beneficiaries were arranged for seven States in the country, and one district each was picked up at random in each of those states to gauge the performance of the scheme.

Student accuses College of demanding 50 lakh for admission, moves HC —

 Dr Faaria, resident of Juhu, has moved the vacation bench seeking stay on the admission process to the Post Graduate (PG) Dermatology course. She claims that the college has asked her to pay Rs 50 lakh as donation for her admission to the course in DY Patil Medical College.

Mumbai : The Bombay High Court on Saturday issued notice to the management of DY Patil Medical College and has sought its response to a plea field by a student accusing the institution of denying admission and demanding a hefty amount as ‘donation.’

A vacation bench presided over by Justice Shahrukh Kathawalla and Justice Ajay Gadkari issued the notice after admitting a writ petition filed by Dr. Faaria Asif Ali.

Dr. Faaria, resident of Juhu, Mumbai has moved the bench seeking stay on the admission process to the Post Graduate (PG) Dermatology course. She claims that the college has asked her to pay Rs. 50 lakh as donation for her admission to the said course in DY Patil Medical College.

According to advocate Anukul Seth, his client Faaria was allotted a seat in the course by the Directorate General of Health Services, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India.

“The ministry had made a provisional allotment to my client by issuing a letter on May 19. She was given the allotment under the NRI quota since her uncle is an NRI,” Seth told Free Press Journal.

“Soon after receiving the letter from the ministry, we approached the college to confirm our seat by paying the fees. But there we were asked to pay an additional amount of Rs. 50 lakh, which did not include the course fees. We haven’t paid the amount yet since our admission has not been confirmed,” Seth added.

Dr. Faaria has now moved the court seeking a stay on the admission process since the Saturday was the last date for admissions to the course. She has claimed that if the college now refuses to grant her admission then it would cause great harm to her career.

Having heard the contentions, the bench said, “Since the College is not served and therefor not represented before us, we are not able to verify the allegations made by the Petitioner (Faaria) against the management of the College.”

“However, we adjourn the matter till Monday, with a clarification that all steps taken by the College for granting of admissions to students in M.D. (Dermatology) between today and Monday, shall be subject to the Orders which would be passed on the next date,” the judges added.

DVAC files DA case against Coimbatore doctor, wife

The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC), Coimbatore, has registered a disproportionate assets case against Dr V Elango, 57, professor of surgery at the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital, and his wife P Mallika, 56, who is working as junior engineer in Chennai.

According to the DVAC, the couple is in possession of pecuniary resources and properties disproportionate to their known source of income. The inspector of police, DVAC, Coimbatore, M Kanagasabapathy, registered a case against the couple on May 25 under sections 13 (2) read with 12 (1) (e) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. According to DVAC, Mallika was working as junior engineer at the office of the divisional engineer, National Highways, Coimbatore, since January 1, 2008. She hailed from Arani in Thiruvannamalai district and got married to Dr V Elango in 1984. The couple has two sons.

Mallika joined in the government service as an assistant draftsman at the office of divisional engineer, highways, Coimbatore division on November 21,1981. She was promoted to junior drafting officer on January 30, 1997 and later as junior engineer in 2010.

The couple was in possession of pecuniary resources to the tune of ₹44.89 lakh in their name and in the names of their family members as on January 1, 2008.
