தமிழகத்தில், ஜூன், 30 வரை, 6.3 லட்சம் பேர், வருமான வரி கணக்கு தாக்கல் செய்துள்ளனர்.கடந்த, 2017 - 18ம் நிதியாண்டுக்கான வருமான வரி கணக்கு தாக்கல், ஏப்ரலில் துவங்கி நடந்து வருகிறது. 

நடப்பு நிதியாண்டு முதல், மாத ஊதியம், மாத ஓய்வூதியம் என, வருமான வரி உச்சவரம்பை தாண்டும் அனைவரும், வருமான வரி கணக்கு தாக்கல் செய்வது கட்டாயமாகும்.வருமான வரியை தளர்த்துவதற்காக, காப்பீடு போன்றவற்றில் பணம் செலுத்தி, வருமானம் உச்ச வரம்புக்கு கீழ் இருந்தாலும், இந்த ஆண்டு, வருமான வரி கணக்கை கட்டாயம் தாக்கல் செய்ய வேண்டும். மேலும், வரும், 31க்குள் வருமான வரி கணக்கு தாக்கல் செய்யத் தவறினால், வருமானத்துக்கேற்ப அபராதம் செலுத்தும் நடைமுறையும் கொண்டு வரப்பட்டுள்ளது.

அபராதம் இன்றி வருமான வரி கணக்கு தாக்கல் செய்ய, வரும், 31ம் தேதி கடைசி நாள். இதனால், அதற்குள் வருமான வரி செலுத்துவோரின் எண்ணிக்கை கணிசமாக உயரும் என, எதிர்பார்க்கப்படுகிறது. மேலும், 2019 மார்ச், 31க்குப் பின், வருமானவரி கணக்கு தாக்கல் செய்ய முடியாது.

VIRUDHUNAGAR: CB-CID sleuths, on Friday, filed an 1160-page charge sheet in the Nirmala Devi case, at the Virudhunagar Judicial Magistrate II Court here. It may be recalled that a telephone conversation by the assistant professor, Nirmala Devi, from Devanga Arts College in Aruppukottai, seeking sexual favours from some girl students on behalf of higher officials, took the State by storm. On April 16, police arrested Nirmala Devi. The case was later transferred to the CB-CID.

A team led by CB-CID SP Rajeswari and including DSPs M Muthusankaralingam, Hajitha and Karuppiah and nine inspectors started their investigation on April 19. Based on the confession statement of Nirmala Devi, the CB-CID officials arrested Karuppiah, a post-doctorate student of Madurai Kamaraj University (MKU), and V Murugan, an assistant professor at MKU’s department of management studies.

The CB-CID officials held inquiries with MKU officials, the teaching and non-teaching staff and the students of Devanga Arts and Science College, and their statements were documented.

Nirmala Devi, Murugan and Karuppiah were remanded in judicial custody. They approached the judicial court as well as the high court seeking bail, but the court rejected their plea. Nirmala Devi was taken to Chennai for a voice test, as per an order of the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court, and the forensic department confirmed that the voice in the audio was that of Nirmala Devi.

CHENNAI: Even as the land survey for the Chennai-Salem Express Highway project is progressing, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has commenced the preliminary work for the Thanjavur-Madurai greenfield project recently.

According to officials, the project involves developing a new road between Thanjavur and Karaikudi via Pudukottai for about 95 to 100 km and widening the existing 46-km two-lane road from Karaikudi to Melur into four lanes under the Bharatmala Pariyojana - I.
Currently, the distance between Thanjavur and Madurai via Tiruchy by road is about 190 km and 176 km via Manamadurai-Thanjavur road (two-lane State highway). The greenfield project is expected to reduce the travel distance by 15 to 20 km, according to sources privy to this discussion. “The alignment of the proposed project is being studied. Widening of existing state highways is not feasible as agriculture land would get affected. The greenfield alignment is being planned, which requires least amount of agriculture land,” said a NHAI official.

The Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has already accorded approval in principle, and a preliminary report is being prepared to seek the final approval for the project.

The proposed road will also be an access-controlled road and the vehicular underpass will be provided for every 2.5 km en route. “Similar to the Chennai-Salem express highway, the road would get closed on both ends so as to maintain the 100-to-120 km speed,” added the official sources.

To widen the 46-km stretch of the Karaikudi-Melur (located about 26 km from Madurai) two-lane road into four lanes at ` 767.57 crore, the NHAI recently invited bids.

The Thanjavur-Karaikudi-Melur-Madurai road is expected to decongest the NH 45 as it would create an alternative routes to Madurai, Tiruneveli, Ramanathapuram from Chennai. The four-lane work between Vikkiravandi and Thanjavur has been in progress.

On completion of the Vikkiravandi-Thanajavur four-lane works, commuters from Chennai can reach Madurai via Vikkiravandi-Thanjavur-Karaikudi-Melur-Madurai. In addition to this, commuters can also have another route to the southern parts of Tamil Nadu via Mahabalipuram, Puducherry, Sirkazhi, Mayiladuthurai, Kumbakonam and Thanjavur.

Currently, the Chennai-Mahabalipuram section has four lanes, while the widening work between Mahabalipuram and Puducherry is to be taken soon. The Puducherry-Cuddalore- Sirkazhi section has two lanes and is being proposed to be widened as part of the Villupuram-Nagapattinam four-lane project. The Sirkazhi-Mayiladuthurai-Kumabakonam stretch will also be widened.

CHENNAI: Vivid posters with the image of the late actor-turned-Chief Minister MG Ramachandran (MGR), 100-odd rare and vintage images of the ‘Makkal Thilagam’, his iconic fur cap, glass, watch and his Mark 4 Ambassador car bearing the registration number ‘MGR 4777’ on display, all part of MGR Centenary celebrations, World MGR Peravai Delegates conference, were our initial observations as we entered Vels University in Pallavaram.

Thousands of delegates and MGR followers from across the world had gathered. Raju, an avid MGR ‘devotee’, clad in a vivid yellow pant-shirt and a bright red hat, announced, “MGR is my oxygen!” Talking about his love for his ‘Deivam’ (god) he said, “For all special occasions, I dress like him. It’s his Centenary celebration. We will love him forever.” A 60-something Kannappan caught our eyes. “I have been dressing like ‘thalaivar’ for close to 30 years now. From the fur cap, and dress to the black glass, I make sure everything is perfect. Initially, look-alikes were looked at with awe, now there are too many. So, it’s become a trivial affair,” he sighed.

Addressing the audience, Saidai Duraisamy said, “This is a special occasion where MGR’s followers from across the globe have come together to celebrate the doyen. He gave so much to the society and we are forever indebted to him.” Concurring, Ishari K Ganesh, founder Chairman and Chancellor of Vels University shared, “MGR was not just a politician… he was a great politician and statesman. He has contributed a lot to the upliftment of the underprivileged and it’s heartwarming that we are here to remember it all.”

The chief guest of the event, Governor of Tamil Nadu, Banwarilal Purohit gushed with praises and good words of the late CM. “The generosity of MGR knew no bounds. He was like Karnan,” he said. A display of traditional performing arts and the launch of the trailer of the MGR’s animation movie ‘Kizhakku Africavil Raju’, were also held.

CHENNAI: Commuters in parts of North Chennai often get misguided with the buses operated on different routes with the same bus numbers. Particularly, people who live in and around Perambur, Periyar Nagar, Kumaran Nagar and Madhvaram are the worst affected.

The 29C was assigned to one of the vintage routes of Chennai city, which connects Perambur with Besant Nagar.

Four years ago, a few services of 29C were extended to Thiruvanmiyur, renumbered as 29C Extn. Later, the extended route was converted into regular service. However, the MTC has retained 29C for the Perambur-Thiruvanmiyur route as well.

Presently, about 50 services of buses bearing the 29C Extn run across the city on five different routes — Periyar Nagar-Besant Nagar, Mathur MMDA-Thiruvanmiyur, Madhavaram-Thiruvanmiyur, Srinivasa Nagar-Besant Nagar and Thiru.Vi.Ka Nagar-Thiruvanmiyur.

“I boarded the 29C Extn bus at Mylapore to go to Thiru.Vi.Ka Nagar. I was told that the bus was going to Periyar Nagar only after it reached Mandhaveli. So, I got down there and got another bus to reach my home,” said S Krishnan, a retired school teacher, who is also a regular bus commuter. Similarly, confusion is prevailing among the bus commuters who regularly board buses 38C, 29D, 29A Extn and 23C.

While a few buses with the number 29D run from Vivekananda House upto Moolakadai, some services run upto MMDA Mathur. Similarly, 38C bus has also two routes - Thiru Vi Ka Nagar - Anna Square and Thiru Vi Ka Nagar-V House.

The drivers and conductors say they are also frequently in confrontation with the commuters over the bus routes. Particularly, the 23C (Ayanavaram-Besant Nagar) bus gets commuters who want to go to Thiruvanmiyur every day. “At least a minimum of 10 commuters board at Besant Nagar-bound 23C bus to reach Thiruvanmiyur. We de-board them at the Adyar depot, even though we don’t have a stoppage,” said a conductor.

When contacted, MTC officials said that many routes were extended to nearby areas with the same numbers so as to cater for more commuters.

“We did not receive many complaints over the issues involving bus numbers. As for the 29C and 23C, changing the bus number suddenly on the highly demanded routes may lead to confusion among regular commuters. We will look into the issue,” said the official.
