New Delhi : Indian Railways may soon allow use of more documents, apart from Aadhaar, for authentication of IRCTC accounts to book Tatkal tickets. Documents saved in Digilocker — such as PAN card, driving licence and voter ID — are likely to be added for user authentication, sources said. Railway ministry may issue an update Monday, a day before the Aadhaar-linking rule for IRCTC accounts comes into effect. The proposal was discussed during a review meeting chaired by rail minister Ashwini Vaishnaw Friday. Around 2.2 lakh passengers book Tatkal tickets daily through IRCTC website and app. Railways has advised users to link their Aadhaar with IRCTC accounts to avoid disruptions from July 1 (Tuesday). It has also announced that from July 15, even passengers booking paper Tatkal tickets at ticket counters will need to provide mobile number to receive OTP . As of now, only a little over 10% of IRCTC’s 13 crore registered users have linked their accounts with Aadhaar. The railway ministry has clarified that the move aims to “promote fair and transparent access to Tatkal tickets while safeguarding the rights of genuine passengers.”
