This was even possible with just 12-minute walking every day.   Improves creativity - Stanford University study states that walking substantially enhances creativity as compared to ideally sitting. When you think of giving out a creative idea to your clients for any project, you could perhaps think of a new way! Shaper brain - Frontiers of Aging Neuroscience conducted a study in this regard. It states that the different parts of your brain enjoy better coordination and connectivity as you walk. In fact, you may prevent your brain from possible age related mental disorders with walking.   Forest bathing is practiced in Japan. It involves people strolling in forest to get in touch with nature and get their mind relaxed. This largely helps them in getting out of fight depression and get relaxed. You however need not worry about not being able to hit a forest. A relaxing park would do equal magic.   Steady fast pace - make sure to walk at a steady faster pace and not to slow. You should however not give up for not being able to cope with the same speed. Keep walking more.

முந்தைய, காங்., தலைமையிலான, ஐ.மு., கூட்டணி அரசு, ஐ.பி., - 'ரா' - என்.ஐ.ஏ., - சி.பி.ஐ., உள்ளிட்ட புலனாய்வு மற்றும் பாதுகாப்பு அமைப்புகளுக்கு, ஆர்.டி.ஐ., எனப்படும், தகவல் அறியும் உரிமை சட்டத்தில் விலக்கு அளிக்கும் ஷரத்துக்களை சேர்த்துள்ளது.

தகவல் அறியும் உரிமை சட்டத்தில் கேட்கப்படும் கேள்விகளுக்கு, தகவல் உரிமை சட்டப் பிரிவில் உள்ள ஷரத்துக்களை மேற்கோள் காட்டி, பதில் அளிக்க, சி.பி.ஐ., மறுத்து வருகிறது.

சி.பி.ஐ.,யின் வாதத்தை, 2012ல், தலைமை தகவல் ஆணையர், சத்யானந்தா மிஸ்ரா நிராகரித்தார். 'ஊழல் குற்றச்சாட்டு தொடர்பான தகவல்களை அளிப்பதில், சி.பி.ஐ.,க்கு, தகவல் உரிமை சட்டத்தில் விலக்கு தரப்படவில்லை' என, அவர் கூறியிருந்தார்.

இதை எதிர்த்து, டில்லி உயர் நீதிமன்றத்தில், சி.பி.ஐ., மனு தாக்கல் செய்திருந்தது. இந்த வழக்கில், தீர்ப்பளித்த, நீதிபதி, விபு பக்ரு, ''ஊழல் குற்றச்சாட்டுகள், மனித உரிமை மீறல்கள் தொடர்பாக, தகவல் அறியும் உரிமை சட்டத்தில், சி.பி.ஐ.,க்கு முழு விலக்கு அளிக்கப்படவில்லை,'' என்றார்.

புதுடெல்லி: மனைவி பிரசவத்தின் போது ஆண்களுக்கும் 3 மாதம் மகப்பேறு விடுமுறை அளிக்கும் புதிய மசோதா நாடாளுமன்ற குளிர்கால கூட்டத்தொடரில் தாக்கல் செய்யப்பட உள்ளது. மகப்பேறு திருத்த மசோதா 2016, இந்த ஆண்டு தொடக்கத்தில் நாடாளுமன்றத்தில் கொண்டு வரப்பட்டது. அதில், அரசுத் துறைகளில் பணிபுரியும் பெண்களுக்கு முதல் இரண்டு குழந்தைகளின் பிரசவத்தின் போது அளிக்கப்படும் மகப்பேறு விடுமுறையை 12 வாரங்களில் இருந்து 26 வாரங்களாக மாற்றி அமைக்கப்பட்டது. தற்போது, அனைத்து பெண்களும் 26 வாரங்கள் விடுமுறை எடுக்கும் வகையில் மத்திய அரசு அறிவிப்பு வெளியிட்டுள்ளது. இந்த மசோதா தாக்கல் செய்யப்பட்ட போது அனைத்து கட்சி எம்பி.க்களும் ஒரே குரலில், ‘குழந்தை பிறப்பின்போது தந்தைக்கும் விடுமுறை அளிக்க வேண்டும். அதற்கு இந்த மசோதாவில் எந்த வழியும் இல்லை. எனவே, புதிய மசோதா தாக்கல் செய்து வழிவகை செய்ய வேண்டும்’ என்ற கோரிக்கையை எழுப்பினர்.

காங்கிரஸ் எம்பி ராஜீவ் சத்தவ் சார்பில் தயாரிக்கப்பட்டுள்ள இந்த தனிநபர் மசோதா, அடுத்த நாடாளுமன்ற கூட்டத் தொடரான குளிர்கால கூட்டத்தொடரில் அறிமுகப்படுத்தப்படும் என்று தெரிகிறது. இந்த மசோதாவில் பெற்றோருக்கான பொறுப்பு அடிப்படையில் குழந்தை பிறக்கும்போது தாய் மற்றும் தந்தை இருவருமே பயன் பெறும் வகையில் தந்தைக்கும் 3 மாதம் விடுமுறை அளிக்க முடிவு செய்யப்பட்டுள்ளது.

குழந்தைகள் நலனில் தாய் மற்றும் தந்தை இருவருக்குமே பொறுப்பு உண்டு. எனவே, புதிதாக பிறந்த குழந்தையின் பராமரிப்புக்கு உரிய நேரத்தை இருவரும் ஒதுக்க வேண்டும். எனவே, ஆண்களுக்கும் விடுமுறை அவசியம். குழந்தை பிறப்பு தேதிக்கு 7 நாட்களுக்கு முன் இருந்து இந்த விடுமுறையை எடுக்க அனுமதி அளிக்க வேண்டும். அதிகபட்சமாக குழந்தை பிறந்த தேதியில் இருந்து 3 மாதங்கள் வரை விடுமுறை எடுக்க இந்த மசோதா வழிவகை செய்கிறது. வாடகை தாய் மூலம் குழந்தை பெறும் வளர்ப்பு தந்தையர்களும் இந்த விடுமுறை எடுக்க அனுமதி வழங்கப்படும். இவ்வாறு அவர் தெரிவித்தார்.

National passenger carrier Air India on Saturday launched its non-stop flight service from New Delhi to Copenhagen. The new service is Air India’s third non-stop flight launched this year.

Earlier, the airline had launched its services from New Delhi to Washington and New Delhi to Stockholm.

Commenting on the launch of the new services, Air India chairman and managing director Rajiv Bansal said: “With this new service, we expect to cater to the majority of traffic between Copenhagen and Delhi... We have also received good cargo load for the sector.”

The national passenger carrier aims to serve around 40,000 passengers one-way for the entire year.

The airline will operate the thrice-a-week service on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays to fulfil a long standing demand of travellers from India and Denmark.

To mark the launch of the new service, Air India is offering attractive return fares starting from Rs 42,700, inclusive of all taxes.

The new route is operated by the airline on its state-of-the-art Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft to Copenhagen making the city its 11th non-stop European destination and 44th international station.
The new route is also a part of the airline’s aggressive strategy to focus on the international segment with non-stop flights.

In aviation parlance a non-stop flight operates point-to-point and is popular among passengers travelling on long-haul routes.

In contrast, a direct flight stops at least once between two destinations for either refuelling or disembarking of some on-board passengers.

The commencement of the new route comes after the passenger traffic between the two countries recorded a healthy growth of over 10% in 2016.

Blind student whose medical college seat was cancelled says will commit suicide

A 19-year-old medical student who is unable to see beyond a distance of 8cm has threatened suicide after the Medical Council of India cancelled his admission to college since his disability is regarded too severe for someone taking the MBBS course.

Suresh’s tale highlights a problem of neglect and delays that plague almost every government office in the country: He was given admission in 2016 by authorities in Karnataka who should have taken note of his condition, only for it be cancelled almost a year later by the country’s medical regulator.

On August 28, Suresh wrote a five-page letter, and a separate two-page suicide note with a headline, “Notice of Death” in which he listed his struggle to land the college seat.

He said that despite his 70% visual disability, he scored 86% in his Class 12 examinations, studied hard to prepare for the medical college examination, and sold ancestral property to pay for his first year fees during a period in life that also coincided with the death of his parents.
“Out of severe depression, I have written to MCI to solve my problem. I have no option but to end my life if I don’t get a solution in my favour,” he told HT over a phone call.

Officials of the Karnataka Examination Authority allotted him a seat in Raichur Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) under the quota for students with disability after he scored a rank of 20,000 out of 1.5 lakh in the state’s common entrance test (CET) last year. He joined RIMS, a government college, in July 2016.

On June 26, 2017, the MCI cancelled his admission because it violated a 2009 regulation. The rule says that the only disability allowed in medical colleges is of the lower limbs, and a candidate had to fall under the 50%-70% severity to be eligible for reserved seats. Someone with more than 70% disability is not eligible for admission at all.

In December 2016, parliament passed The Rights of Persons with Disabilities Bill – 2016 which allows 5% reservation without any exception in all educational institutions. The legislation came into force in April 2017 but it does not apply in Suresh’s case because he took admission last year.

Suresh challenged the MCI’s cancellation order in the Kalaburagi Bench of Karnataka High Court, which, in an interim order on July 31, permitted him to appear in first year examination.

“While other students’ results are out, mine has been withheld,” he told HT from his village Byagwat in Raichur.

While the medical regulator’s decision was based on a rule backed by several medical reports and the views of the medical professionals, Suresh raised several questions regarding his case.

“When regulations don’t allow, why was I allowed to sit for examination? Why wasn’t I informed during counselling by the Karnataka Examination Authority? Why didn’t my college question that?” asked the teenager who counts becoming a doctor as his only dream.

“I can compete with any normal student and perform better than many of them,” he said.

Kavita Patil, chairman, RIMS, said that she is not aware of Suresh’ suicide note to MCI but is trying to help him by taking up the issue with senior government authorities.

A case related to permitting candidates with colour blindness to pursue medical education is pending in Supreme Court. During hearings, the top court has questioned the policy to completely exclude colour blind candidates from the medical profession.

The MCI analyses all medical college entries and given the scale of the work, it often takes months to scrap admissions.

BENGALURU: Professional colleges in the state that charged excess fee from students who got admissions for undergraduate courses have now been asked to refund the excess fee.The admissions overseeing committee headed by retired High Court judge Anand Byrareddy issued an order on Wednesday asking colleges to refund excess fee collected, along with an 18 per cent interest per annum.
As per the order, the college managements have to refund the amount within 30 days of the order.

However, the Department of Medical Education will have to take a final call on this matter and direct the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) to implement the same. The committee has recommended a more rigorous penalty to be levied on colleges if they fail to act within the stipulated time.

Students were charged excess fees apart from fees they paid to Karnataka Examinations Authority at the time of counselling as well as transportation, hostel, lab, library and university fees that were charged for seats, including those under government, management and NRI quotas.

The committee has identified 15 colleges across the state that have charged excess fee for students who got admission under government quota and 13 colleges that have overcharged in NRI and management quotas.According to the list, the maximum excess fees charged for government quota seats was  `88,445 by a college in Dakshina Kannada district (Sullia).

இந்திய விமானப்படையின் முன்னாள் தளபதி அர்ஜன் சிங் உயிரிழந்தார்.

1965-ம் ஆண்டு அது. இந்தியா மீது பாகிஸ்தான் போர் தொடுத்தது. அக்னூர் பகுதி மீது கடுமையான தாக்குதல் நடத்தியது பாகிஸ்தான். அப்போது 44 வயதான அர்ஜன் சிங், ஒரு இளம் விமானப்படை பிரிவுக்கு தலைமை தாங்கி சென்று போரிட்டார். அவரது துணிச்சலான வீரத்தால் எதிரிகள் வீழ்ந்தனர். இந்திய விமானப்படை வெற்றிப்பாதையில் பயணித்தது. குறிப்பாக, அந்தப் போரில் இந்தியா வெற்றி பெற்றது. இதற்கு முக்கிய காரணமாக இருந்தவர் அர்ஜன் சிங். விமானப்படையில் 5 நட்சத்திரம் அந்தஸ்து பெற்ற ஒரே அதிகாரி அர்ஜன்சிங்தான்.

இதனிடையே, நேற்று காலை அர்ஜன் சிங்குக்கு திடீரென்று மாரடைப்பு ஏற்பட்டது. இதையடுத்து, அவர் டெல்லி ராணுவ மருத்துவமனையில் அனுமதிக்கப்பட்டார். இதைத்தொடர்ந்து, பிரதமர் மோடி மற்றும் மத்திய பாதுகாப்புத்துறை அமைச்சர் நிர்மலா சீதாராமன் ஆகியோர் அர்ஜன் சிங் உடல் நலன் குறித்து நேரில் சென்று விசாரித்தனர்.

சென்னையில் கடந்த சில நாள்களாக வெயில் சற்று அதிகமாக இருந்த நிலையில், நேற்று இரவு முதல் தொடர்ந்து மழை பெய்து வருகிறது. கோடம்பாக்கம், நுங்கம்பாக்கம், அண்ணா சாலை, திருவல்லிக்கேணி, அடையார், தாம்பரம் உள்ளிட்ட பகுதிகளில் நல்ல மழை பெய்து வருகிறது. குறிப்பாக, பல்வேறு பகுதிகளில் விட்டு விட்டு மழை பெய்து வருகிறது. நீண்ட நாள்களுக்கு பிறகு தொடர்ந்து மழை பெய்து வருவதால் மக்கள் மகிழ்ச்சி அடைந்துள்ளனர்.



இதுகுறித்து தமிழ்நாடு வெதர்மேன் பிரதீப் ஜான் தனது ஃபேஸ்புக் பக்கத்தில் கூறுகையில், "காரைக்காலில் இருந்து நெல்லூர் நோக்கி காற்று செல்வதால், இன்று (நேற்று) இரவு சென்னையில் மழை வராவிட்டால், வடதமிழ்நாடு மற்றும் தெற்கு ஆந்திரப்பிரதேச கடலோரப்பகுதிகள்தான் மிகவும் துரதிருஷ்ட பகுதியாக இருக்கும். நான் ஏற்கெனவே கூறியதுபோல், இன்றும் (நேற்று), நாளையும் (இன்று) சென்னைக்கு மிகச்சிறந்த நாள்கள். நகரின் சில பகுதிகளில் மழையை எதிர்பார்க்கலாம். மிகவும் வேகமாக காற்று வீசத் தொடங்கி, மழையும் மிக வேகமாக பெய்யக்கூடும்.



வேலூர், காஞ்சிபுரம், கடலூர், புதுச்சேரி, காரைக்கால் ஆகிய பகுதிகளில் சிறிய இடைவெளிக்கு பின், குறிப்பிடத்தகுந்த மழை பெய்துள்ளது. அதேசமயம், மேற்கு கடற்கரை பகுதிகள் அமைதியாக இருந்து வருகிறது. ஆனால், நாளை (இன்று) மற்றும் நாளை மறுநாள் (நாளை) மலைப்பகுதியில் அமைந்துள்ள அணைகளின் நீர்பிடிப்பு பகுதிகலில் நல்ல மழை இருக்கும். அதனால் நீர்வரத்தும் இருக்கும்" என்று கூறியுள்ளார்.

பல்வேறு விமர்சனங்கள் இருந்தாலும், பிரதமர் நரேந்திர மோடி தன்னளவில் தனது வாழ்வில் இவர் நிகழ்த்தியிருக்கும் சாதனை என்பது ஒவ்வொரு இந்தியக் குடிமகனுக்கும் ஆச்சர்யத்தை ஏற்படுத்துவதாக இருக்கிறது. அவரது வாழ்வின் திருப்புமுனைகள் யதார்த்தமாக அவருக்கு வாய்த்திருந்தாலும்கூட அதனைப் பயன்படுத்திக்கொண்ட விதத்தில் அவரது சாமர்த்தியம் அனைவருக்கும் ஒரு பாடம்.

துணை மருத்துவப் படிப்புகளுக்கான கலந்தாய்வில் பங்கேற்பதற்கான அழைப்புக் கடிதத்தை இணையதளத்தில் பதிவிறக்கம் செய்து கொள்ளலாம் என்று அறிவிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.
பி.எஸ்சி. நர்சிங், பி.பார்ம் உள்ளிட்ட 9 துணை மருத்துவப் படிப்புகளுக்கான கலந்தாய்வு சென்னை ஓமந்தூரார் பல்நோக்கு சிறப்பு மருத்துவமனையில் செப்டம்பர் 19}ஆம் தேதி தொடங்க உள்ளது. இந்தப் படிப்புகளுக்கு அரசு கல்லூரிகளில் 484 இடங்களும், தனியார் கல்லூரிகளில் 5,479 இடங்களும் உள்ளன. கலந்தாய்வுக்கான தகுதிப்பட்டியல் வெள்ளிக்கிழமை வெளியிடப்பட்டது. கலந்தாய்வில் பங்கேற்பதற்கான அழைப்புக் கடிதத்தை பதிவிறக்கம் செய்து கொள்ளும் வசதி சனிக்கிழமை அறிமுகப்படுத்தப்பட்டது.

22. தந்தையை விஞ்சிய தனயன் - ஆர்.டி. பர்மன்

எஸ்.டி. பர்மனைப் பற்றி நாம் கவனித்திருக்கிறோம். அவரது புதல்வர் ஆர்.டி. பர்மன் என்ற ராகுல் தேவ் பர்மன், இந்தியாவின் புதழ்பெற்ற இசையமைப்பாளர்களில் ஒருவர். எஸ்.டி. பர்மனின் மறைவுக்குப் பின்னர் ஹிந்தித் திரையுலகைப் பல வருடங்கள் அரசாண்டவர். ஐம்பத்து நான்கே வயதில் வாரிசில்லாமல் இறந்துவிட்டாலும்கூட, இன்றும் பல்லாயிரக்கணக்கான இசை ரசிகர்களால் விரும்பிக் கேட்கப்படும் பல பாடல்கள் இவர் இசைத்தவையே.

ஆர்.டி. பர்மனின் முதல் ட்யூன், அவரது ஒன்பதாவது வயதில் இசையமைக்கப்பட்டது என்பது ஆச்சரியமானது. சிறுவயதில் அவர் கம்போஸ் செய்த ட்யூனை, ‘ஃபந்தூஷ்’ (1956) படத்தில் எஸ்.டி. பர்மனால் ‘ஆயே மெரி டோபி பலட் கே ஆ’ என்ற பாடலுக்காகப் பின்னர் எஸ்.டி. பர்மன் உபயோகித்துக்கொண்டார். ஆர்.டி. பர்மன் மிகச்சிறுவயதில் இப்படி இசையமைத்ததில் ஆச்சரியமே இல்லை. அவரது தந்தை எஸ்.டி. பர்மன் எப்படியெல்லாம் இசை கற்றுக்கொண்டார் என்று நாம் ஏற்கெனவே கவனித்திருக்கிறோம். அதேபோல் ஆர்.டி. பர்மனுக்கும், தந்தையிடமிருந்தும், பின்னர் அலி அக்பர் கான் (சரோட்), சம்தா பிரஸாத் (தப்லா) முதலிய சிறந்த இசைக்கலைஞர்களிடமிருந்தும் இசை கற்கும் வாய்ப்பு ஏற்பட்டது. அதை அவர் திறம்படவும் கற்றார்.

இசையை நன்கு கற்றுத் தேர்ந்தபின்னர், ‘சொல்வா சால்’ (1958), ‘சல்த்தி கா நாம் காடி’ (1958), ‘காகஸ் கி ஃபூல்’ (1957) முதலிய சில படங்களில் தந்தையிடமே உதவியாளராகவும் பணியாற்றினார் ஆர்.டி. பர்மன். இவைகளைத் தொடர்ந்து, தனது இருபதாவது வயதில், 1959ல், ‘ராஸ்’ என்ற படத்தில் இசையமைப்பாளராகும் வாய்ப்பு ஆர்.டி. பர்மனுக்குக் கிடைக்கிறது. ஆனால், குருதத்தை வைத்து அவரது உதவியாளர் நிரஞ்சன் இயக்க இருந்த அப்படம் கைவிடப்பட்டதைத் தொடர்ந்து, மீண்டும் தந்தையிடமே உதவியாளராக மாறினார் பஞ்ச்சம் (ஆர்.டி. பர்மனின் செல்லப்பெயர். இப்பெயராலேயே இன்றும் ‘பஞ்ச்சம் தா’ என்று அவரது ரசிகர்களால் அழைக்கப்பட்டுவருகிறார்).

1961ல், ‘ச்சோட்டே நவாப்’ என்ற படத்தை, பிரபல நகைச்சுவை நடிகர் மெஹ்மூத் தயாரிக்கிறார். இப்படத்தில் எஸ்.டி. பர்மன் இசையை நாடி அவரது வீட்டுக்குச் செல்கிறார். எஸ்.டி. பர்மன்  நேரமின்மையால் இசையமைக்க மறுக்க, வீட்டில் தப்லா வாசித்துக்கொண்டிருந்த இளைஞன் பஞ்ச்சமையே இசையமைப்பாளராக ஒப்பந்தம் செய்கிறார் மெஹ்மூத். இதுதான் ஆர்.டி. பர்மனின் முதல் படம். இதன் பின்னர் ‘பூத் பங்ளா’, ‘தீஸ்ரா கோன்’ ஆகிய படங்கள் 1965ல் வெளியாகின்றன. அடுத்த ஆண்டு வெளியான ‘தீஸ்ரி மன்ஸில்’ (1965) படம்தான் ஆர்.டி. பர்மனை ஊரெல்லாம் அறியச்செய்தது. பூத் பங்ளாவிலேயே ‘ஆவோ ட்விஸ்ட் கரே(ன்)’, ‘எக் சவால் ஹை’ முதலிய ஹிட்கள் இருந்தன. ஆனால் தீஸ்ரி மன்ஸில்தான் அத்தனை பாடல்களும் சூப்பர்ஹிட் ஆன முதல் ஆர்.டி பர்மன் படம். ஷம்மி கபூர் நடித்திருந்த இப்படத்தின் கதாநாயகி ஆஷா பாரேக். படத்தை இயக்கியவர் தேவ் ஆனந்தின் சகோதரர் விஜய் ஆனந்த். படத்தை எழுதித் தயாரித்தவர் பிரபல இயக்குநர் நஸீர் ஹுஸைன். தீஸ்ரி மன்ஸில், தேவ் ஆனந்த் நடிக்கவேண்டிய படம். ஆனால் தேவ் ஆனந்தும் நஸீர் ஹுஸைனும் ஒரு பார்ட்டியில் (நடிகை சாதனாவின் நிச்சயதார்த்தத்துக்கான பார்ட்டி அது) லேசாகக் குடித்துவிட்டுச் சண்டையிட்டதால், நஸீர் ஹுஸைன், தேவ் ஆனந்தை இப்படத்தில் இருந்து விலக்கி, ஷம்மி கபூரைச் சேர்த்தார்.

படம் பிரம்மாண்ட ஹிட் ஆனது. பாடல்களின் ட்யூனை ஆர்.டி. பர்மன் ஷம்மி கபூருக்குப் பாடிக்காட்டியபோதே அங்கேயே ஷம்மி கபூர் எழுந்து சந்தோஷமாக நடனமாடியிருக்கும் அளவு அவருக்குப் பாடல்கள் பிடித்துவிட்டன. அதேபோல், ‘ஓ ஹஸீனா ஸுல்ஃபோவாலி ஜானே கஹா’, ஓ மேரா சோனா ரே சோனா ரே’, ‘தும்னே முஜே தேகா ஹோ கர்’ முதலிய பாடல்கள் இந்தியாவெங்கும் பிரபலம் ஆயின. உடனடியாக ஆர்.டி. பர்மனுக்குப் பல வாய்ப்புகள் குவிந்தன. அன்றில் இருந்து அவர் இறந்த 1994 வரை இந்தியாவின் மிகப்பிரபலமான இசையமைப்பாளராக விளங்கினார் ஆர்.டி. பர்மன். இந்தப் படத்துக்குப் பின்னர், 1985ல் நஸீர் ஹுஸைன் இயக்கிய ‘ஸபர்தஸ்த்’ படம் வரை அவரது அத்தனை படங்களுக்கும் ஆர்.டி. பர்மன் தான் இசை.

‘தீஸ்ரி மன்ஸில்’ படத்தைத் தொடர்ந்து, பதி பத்னி, சந்தன் கா பால்னா, பஹாரோ(ன்) கே சப்னே, படோசன், ப்யார் கா மௌசம், வாரிஸ் என்று வரிசையாக இசையமைக்கத் துவங்கினார் ஆர்.டி. பர்மன். 1970ல் வெளியான கடீ பதங்க் திரைப்படம், ஆர்.டி. பர்மனுக்கு ஒரு மிகச்சிறந்த ஹிட்டாக அமைந்தது. இப்படத்தின் ‘யே ஜோ மொஹப்பத் ஹை’, ‘யே ஷாம் மஸ்தானி’, ‘ப்யார் திவானா ஹோதா ஹை’, ஆஜ் ந ச்சோடேங்கே’, ‘நா கொயீ உமங் ஹை’ ஆகிய பாடல்கள் பிரம்மாண்ட ஹிட்கள் ஆயின. இதற்கு முன்னரே இயக்குநர் ஷக்தி சமந்தா & ராஜேஷ் கன்னா ஆகியோரின் கூட்டணியில் வெளியான ஆராதனா பிரபல ஹிட் ஆகியிருந்தது (இசை, எஸ்.டி. பர்மன். ஆனாலும் படத்தின் இரண்டு பாடல்கள் ஆர்.டி. பர்மன் இசையமைத்ததாகவே இன்றுவரை பேசப்படுகிறது).

இதற்குப் பிறகு, ‘கேரவான்’ (1971), ‘புட்டா மில் கயா’ (1971), ‘ஹரே ராமா ஹரே கிருஷ்ணா’ (1971), ‘சீதா ஔர் கீதா’ (1971) என்று தடதடவென்று சூப்பர்ஹிட் இசை ஆர்.டி. பர்மன் வழியாக இந்தியாவெல்லாம் பாய்ந்தது. குறிப்பாக ஹரே ராமா ஹரே கிருஷ்ணா படத்தில், ‘தம் மாரோ தம்’ பாடல் உலக ஹிட் ஆனது. அப்பாடலின் வீச்சால் பயந்துபோன இயக்குநர்-நடிகர் தேவ் ஆனந்த், அப்பாடலைப் படத்தில் முழுதாக வைக்கவே இல்லை. வைத்தால், படத்தைப் பாடல் மிஞ்சிவிடும் என்று அஞ்சினார்.

ராஜஸ்தான் மாநிலத்தில், 3 வயதே ஆகும் பெண் குழந்தை, ரூ.100 கோடி மதிப்புடையச் சொத்துகளை உதறிவிட்டு, ஜெயின் மதத்தைச் சேர்ந்த இளம் தம்பதியினர் துறவறம் செல்லவுள்ளனர்.
இதுகுறித்த விவரம் வருமாறு:
ராஜஸ்தான் மாநிலம், நீமுச் மாவட்டத்தைச் சேர்ந்தவர் சுமித் ராத்தோர் (35). ஜெயின் மதத்தின் ஸ்வேதம்பர் பிரிவைச் சேர்ந்த ராத்தோர், ராஜஸ்தானில் தனது குடும்பத்தினரின் தொழிலை நிர்வகித்து வருகிறார். 
அதற்கு முன்பு லண்டனில் அவர் பணியாற்றினார். அவரது மனைவி அனாமிகா (34) என்ஜினீயர் ஆவார். இவர்கள் இருவருக்கும், 3 வயதில் பெண் குழந்தை ஒன்று உள்ளது. 
இந்நிலையில், சூரத்தில் கடந்த மாதம் நடைபெற்ற நிகழ்ச்சியில் கலந்து கொண்ட சுமித் ராத்தோர், ஜெயின் மத வழக்கப்படி, துறவறம் செல்ல விருப்பம் தெரிவித்தார். அப்போது அங்கிருந்த துறவி ஆச்சார்ய ராம்லால் மகராஜ் என்பவர், துறவறம் செல்வதற்கு அனாமிகாவின் சம்மதத்தை கேட்டுப் பெறும்படி தெரிவித்துள்ளார். இதை அனாமிகாவிடம் ராத்தோர் தெரிவித்தபோது, அதை அவர் உடனடியாக ஏற்றார். மேலும், ராத்தோருடன் சேர்ந்து தாமும் துறவறம் பூண்டு கொள்ள விரும்புவதாக தெரிவித்தார்.
பின்னர் இந்த முடிவை ராத்தோரும், அனாமிகாவும், தங்களது பெற்றோர்களிடமும், உறவினர்களிடமும் தெரிவித்துள்ளனர். அதைக் கேட்ட உறவினர்கள், துறவறம் செல்லும் முடிவை மறுபரிசீலனை செய்யும்படி வலியுறுத்தியுள்ளனர். ஆனால், தங்களது முடிவில், ராத்தோரும், அனாமிகாவும் உறுதியாக இருந்தனர். அதனால், அந்த முடிவை உறவினர்கள் ஏற்றுக் கொண்டனர்.
அதன்படி, சூரத்தில் வரும் 23}ஆம் தேதி நடைபெறவுள்ள நிகழ்ச்சியில், இருவருக்கும் ஜெயின் மதத் துறவி ஆச்சார்ய ராம்லால் மகராஜ் துறவறம் செய்து வைக்கவுள்ளார். இதற்கு ஏற்ப, இருவரும் தற்போதிலிருந்தே மௌன விரதம் இருந்து வருகின்றனர்.

Statistics show the situation has remained in their favour for the past decade

Over the last nine years, the number of girls getting into medical colleges, whether self-financing or government, has been equal to or higher than the number of boys. While one indicator of this should have been better performance of girls in the Standard XII examinations, perusing the statistics over the years makes it clear that more girls than boys are entering medical colleges in Tamil Nadu, and that statistics remain unshaken with NEET too.

The percentage of girls (to boys) entering MBBS courses in government medical colleges has been between 49 and 56 since 2009, and this year (2017- 2018), it was 54. Only in 2010 was it higher at 56. The performance in the self-financing side has swung between 54 and 60. Put together, these admissions allow the gender meter to rest comfortably on the female side in the last decade or so.

Change in 2 decades

“It has been like this for many years now. Maybe 40 years back, when we were students, the gender ratio would have been 70:30 in favour of the boys. However, that started gradually changing, and more girls started entering the profession. Gradually it evened out, and then in the last 15-20 years, the tide has turned in favour of girls,” says S. Mohanasundaram, former Director of Medical Education.

A senior woman professor in a government medical college explains that the tide turned in 1990s with entrance examinations, and then Standard XII marks, or sheer merit deciding the entry of candidates.

In 1990s with entrance exams, the girls were performing better. With girls having an edge over the boys in the Standard XII results, they naturally had a better chance of getting into medical colleges.

Additionally, she reminds us, came social change. “Earlier, when we were studying to be doctors, things like finding appropriate grooms for their daughters governed what kind of course the girls could take. Even if the girls performed well, their parents may not have been so keen on sending them to medical college. That seems to have changed in the 1990s,” she explains, providing the context.

However, for the years for which data was available for government school students who entered medical schools, there was no consistent pattern.

In two years, more girls from government schools secured admission to MBBS course, and in the other two years, it was boys. Also traditionally, in Tamil Nadu, the number of government school students getting MBBS has been low, less than 1 per cent.

That number crashed to an all-time low in recent years, five seats, this year.

Airtel offers 60GB free data to postpaid users; here’s how to claim it

Bharti Airtel on Saturday announced a new free data plan for its postpaid users. Under the new plan, Airtel is giving up to 60GB of free data to postpaid users upon downloading and installing the Airtel TV application on their mobile phone. The company is also offering free Live TV services under this offer.

The latest offer comes shortly after the company announced a Postpaid Promise plan under which users could carry forward their unused data to another month and accumulate up to 200GB.

How to claim 60GB bonus data?

If you are an Airtel user, you need to download or open MyAirtel app. On the home screen, you’ll see a banner prompting you to claim free data. Tap on the banner and follow the on-screen instruction. The data can only be availed by downloading and installing the Airtel TV app.

President's medal for former DIG D Roopa who exposed alleged jail irregularities

BENGALURU: Former DIG D Roopa, who highlighted in a report alleged irregularities at the central jail here, including preferential treatment to AIADMK leader V K Sasikala, was on Saturday conferred the President's Medal.

The award was presented to Roopa for her meritorious service by Governor Vajubhai Vala at a ceremony at Raj Bhavan in the presence of Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Home Minister Ramalinga Reddy.

Other police officials selected for the President's medal for their meritorious service were also conferred the medals.

In July, Roopa, then DIG of Prisons, D Roopa, had submitted a report to the Director General of Prisons stating that Sasikala, serving a four-year sentence in the disproportionate assets case at Parapanna Agrahara Central Prison, was given preferential treatment and there was "a talk" that Rs two crore had exchanged hands.

HC orders notice on plea seeking ban on camphor in temples

Madurai: The Madurai bench of the Madras high court on Saturday issued notice on petition seeking to prohibit sale and use of chemical camphor and animal fats and dalda-based light (theepam) in temples in the state.

Hindu Makkal Katchi Sivaganga district president S Anandavel filed the petition seeking a ban on use of chemical camphor and animal fat in temples. It came up for hearing before the division bench of justices K K Sasidharan and G R Swaminathan.

K Neelamegam, petitioner's counsel, said that using pure cow ghee to light lamp would make the temple free from pollution. However, theepams made of animal fats and dalda were sold and used in many temples.

The counel said that several shops in Sri Meenakshi Sundareswarar temple were seen selling dalda theepams under the label of ghee theepam. Chemical camphor was sold there, too. Carbon di oxide and carbon mono oxide emitted from these theeepams and camphors when they were lighted. It would lead to breathing problem and simialr diseases, the counsel added.

Neelamegam said that the temple authority, which was supposed to monitor it, had failed to do so. A representation seeking to prohibit those items in temples was sent to the state's home secretary, health secretary and Hindu religious and charitable endowment secretary on August 25, 2017. However, no action was taken in this regard. Following it, the court ordered notice.

Ignou, another 4800 bodies lose FCRA licence

NEW DELHI: The Union home ministry has cancelled the licence of 4,842 NGOs and organisations, including Indira Gandhi National Open University (Ignou) and Delhi's Guru Tegh Bahadur Khalsa College, under the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act for failing to file annual returns from 2010-11 to 2014-15 despite several reminders, sources in the ministry told TOI on Saturday.

It is mandatory for an NGO or an organisation that has been granted licence under FCRA to file returns of its foreign contribution receipts and expenditure records on an annual basis.

The Union home ministry scrapped FCRA registration of the 4,842 NGOs and organisations on August 8 this year after they did not file returns for a minimum three out of five years between 2010-11 and 2014-15.

It be recalled that it had in a similar exercise in 2015 cancelled the registration of 10,020 NGOs over non-adherence to FCRA norms. The NGOs affected at the time included Delhi University, Jawaharlal Nehru University, IIT (Delhi), School of Planning & Architecture and Punjab University.

Incidentally, institutions formed under an Act or statute are exempt from mandatory FCRA registration and filing of annual returns. A 2011 home ministry notification exempted them on the ground that their accounts were anyway scrutinised and audited by CAG.

"JNU, IITs and Delhi University can therefore still receive foreign funding despite having lost their FCRA licence in 2015," said a home ministry official.

In May, around 18,500 NGOs that had not been regularly filing returns under FCRA over past 5 years, were given a one-time opportunity to give details of their income and expenses. No penalty was to be paid by the defaulters. While 12,537 NGOs reverted, around 5,922 did not bother to upload their returns.

The latter were served a notice in July, well after the extended deadline to file returns had expired, asking why their FCRA licence should not be cancelled over non-filing of annual returns.

While 950 NGOs responded to the notice, there was no word from the 4,842 organisations, leaving the home ministry no other option but to cancel FCRA registration of the latter. The remaining are under review. IGNOU and Guru Tegh Bahadur Khalsa College are the two prominent names in the cancelled list, an officer said adding that they had not filed annual returns for a single year between 2010-11 and 2014-15.

Madras univ goes paperless, set to save up to 70% cost

Chennai: In a move that will save the institution a few crores every year and simplify administration, the University of Madras has decided to go completely paperless. All the official files pertaining to syndicate, academic council, Senate and communication to colleges will be done only through e-mail.

A decision to this effect was taken unanimously at the syndicate meeting on Thursday. The 160-year-old institution is perhaps the first in the country to take such a decision.

The university conducts two academic council meets, two senate meetings and at least 12 syndicate meetings every year. Agenda and minutes of the meeting running into several hundreds of pages have to be printed and distributed to the members of these bodies. Syndicate has 27 members, senate 125 members and academic council more than 200 members.

The annual report and other reports run into more than 1000 pages. Apart from these, examination, board of studies related communication and documents are also sizeable. Besides these, all the invitations for seminars, conferences and academic programmes will no longer be printed and only e-invites will be sent, a senior official said. Paper work would be used only for appointments and finance related matters for a short while till the system settles down. "University can save at least 70 percent of its costs related to purchase of papers, printer cartridges for office use and printing costs," said vice-chancellor P Duraisamy.

The syndicate has also decided on scrapping a five-year integrated course on post-modern development administration and converted it into a two-year MA in development administration. Three Puducherry medical colleges manipulated records to deny admission to meritorious students

PUDUCHERRY: It has now come to light that three private medical colleges in Puducherry had admitted 186 students who had not even applied for admission in those colleges in MBBS last year.

The imbroglio in MBBS admissions in deemed universities and private medical colleges could have been averted if the Puducherry government and private institutions strictly adhered to the decisions taken during the meeting convened at the Raj Nivas on September 1 last year, said lt governor Kiran Bedi.

Within a few days after the private institutions concluded MBBS admissions for the last academic year 2016-17, the chairperson of permanent admission committeeand Madras High Court former judge justice Chitra Venkataraman, in a report dated October 19 last year addressed to the chief secretary listed out serious lapses in the admission process in three private medical colleges and asked the Puducherry government to take appropriate action.

The delay on the part of the government finally resulted in the Medical Council of India ordering discharge of 770-odd MBBS students, who were admitted at private institutions, without following due rules and regulations. The MCI, in its September 7, 2017 order, directed the government and institutions to discharge all MBBS students who were not allotted seats through centralized admission committee (Centac) and send a compliance report within two weeks from the date of dispatch of the order.

Committee chairperson said the parents' associations submitted material evidence proving that the three private medical colleges admitted candidates, who had not even applied for admission in their colleges and denied admission to meritorious candidates, who officially applied for admission in their colleges. The associations pointed out that three private medical colleges offered MBBS admission to 186 students, who did not even apply for admission in their respective colleges.

The Justice said on comparing the application list with the admission list submitted by Pondicherry Institute of Medical Sciences, it was found that out of 112 students admitted, 44 students had not even applied for admission in the college. Similarly out of the 97 students admitted at Sri Venkateswara Medical College Hospital and Research Centre, 50 students had not applied at all and out of the 95 students admitted at Sri Manakula Vinayagar Medical College Hospital and Research Centre, 92 students had not applied at all.

"This left the meritorious students, who had applied in the said colleges and also figured in the merit list prepared by the permanent admission committee not being included," said the justice in the report.

The colleges denied admission to meritorious students, who refused to pay exorbitant fees, declaring that they failed to appear for counselling despite their presence during the counselling session. "The parents informed that the colleges made this noting when the parents insisted on payment of fees as per the fee committee direction," the justice said.

"Agony caused to over 770 medical students was completely avoidable had the minutes of the meeting recorded on September 1 last year held at Raj Nivas were implemented by all parties concerned. Permanent admission committee chairperson also pointed out the serious deficiencies later. None of the issues was addressed. The whole scenario would have been different had the issues were addressed effectively. Instead, the colleges had a free run as is evident from the scale of irregularities based on which the MCI has cancelled the admissions,' said Bedi.

She said people suffer when the government fails to address issues in a time-bound manner with a sense of urgency and integrity. "Regrettably in this issue, it's our children and parents who suffer," she said.
