Perarivalan’s parents want him to get married
Happy as she is over the State government granting A.G. Perarivalan a 30-day parole, Arputhammal, his mother, says what will make her happier is his release from prison.
“All this happened so suddenly. I was astonished, and happy at the same time. I am happy that he has come home after so many years,” she said. “This should not stop with the parole and the State government should announce his release soon. Both I and Perarivalan are expecting this decision soon,” she told The Hindu on Friday.
The 70-year-old mother has been petitioning the State government to grant him parole as he and his father had health problems. Last year, Perarivalan sought parole to meet his ailing father. This was the first time that he had sought parole since his imprisonment in 1991.
Ms. Arputhammal said she wants her son to take rest during the parole period. “I wish he gets married. But we cannot do anything hastily when it comes to his marriage. He should also undergo treatment for his health problems too,” she said.
Like a dream
“It is still like a dream” for 75-year-old Gnanasekaran alias Kuyildasan, Perarivalan’s father. “I spoke to him last night, and when I woke up in the morning, I saw him in the room and wondered if I was dreaming,” Mr. Kuyildasan said. Refusing to believe what television channels reported, he waited for his son to arrive. “We have been deceived on two earlier occasions. So, when my son-in-law told me about news reports, I refused to believe,” he added. He too wants Perarivalan to be released and have a family of his own. Perarivalan has two sisters – Anbumani and Arulselvi.
Perarivalan’s advocate K. Sivakumar said they considered parole as the first step to his freedom.
