MCI pulled up for delaying inspection

Mumbai: The Bombay high court has pulled up the Medical Council of India (MCI) for delaying the process of inspecting D. Y. Patil College of Medicine, which had applied for increase in seats, from 150 to 250.
The MCI after permitting the college to increase seats last year had stayed the college from admitting students beyond 150 on the grounds that there were deficiencies. However, after the college denied the claims of MCI through data about the college mentioned on the MCI website, the court directed MCI to conduct an inspection at the earliest or it would pass orders in this regard.
A division bench of justices Bhushan Gavai and Bharati Dangre was hearing a writ petition filed by Dr. D.Y. Patil Medical College regarding the refusal of the Medical Council of India (MCI) to grant them permission to increase their intake capacity from 150-250.
The college claimed that while they had been granted permission to increase the intake in 2016-17, the Meducal Council of India (MCI) retrained them from filling up the additional seats on the grounds that there was up to six per cent deficiency in fulfilling the criteria for allowing increase of seats.
