Woman IPO official gets 1 year rigorous imprisonment for graft
Representative image. CHENNAI: A senior woman official of the Intellectual Property Office here was today sentenced to one year's rigorous imprisonment by a CBI court in a disproportionate assets case.
Special Judge S Natarajan convicted N D Kasturi, Deputy Registrar, Trade Mark, Intellectual Property Office, Chennai, of the charge that she possessed disproportionate assets of Rs 2.22 crore between April, 2000 and March, 2010.

She could not give any satisfactory explanation for the assets during the investigation, the judge held.
A charge sheet was filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and on completion of the trial, Kasturi was sentenced to undergo rigorous imprisonment of one year, and slapped with a fine of Rs 25,000, a CBI release said.
