One more taluk for Thoothukudi

Chief Minister inaugurates the facility

With the formation of new taluk at Kayathar, Thoothukudi district has a total of nine taluks now.
Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palanisami inaugurated the facility through video conferencing on Tuesday.
Fifty villages Kovilpatti taluk and seven villages from Ottapidaram taluk and town panchayats of Kadambur and Kayathar were brought under the fold of Kayathar taluk, which has a population of 1,03,767. K. Muruganandam would be the tahsildar of this new taluk.
Information and Publicity Minister Kadambur C. Raju along with Collector M. Ravikumar visited the Kayathar taluk office near Kayathar union office. They inspected the veterinary dispensary at Kalugumalai at a cost of Rs. 21 lakh. Later, the Information Minister inaugurated an anganwadi building constructed at a cost of Rs. 6 lakh at Kodangal in Kadambur, sources said.
Earlier, the minister distributed welfare assistance worth Rs. 31, 53,350 to 99 beneficiaries. Motorised scooters to 35 differently abled persons, revolving fund to 28 self-help groups, assistance for two panchayat-level federations under Tamil Nadu State Rural Livelihood Scheme, aid for three under the Backward Classes Welfare Department and through Adi Dravidar Welfare Department.
Differently Abled Welfare Officer S. Saravanan, Project Officer, Mahalir Thittam, Revathi were present.
