Chief Minister comes and goes; speed breakers too

 Officials cite security and smooth ride as reasons for removal

When Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami visited the city last month, officials swung into action and spruced up the arterial roads on which his convoy passed through. The highways and corporation engineers joined hands and removed all the speed breakers on at least half-a-dozen busy roads.
When reporters asked about the removal of the speed breakers, the officials gave two versions: one, for “security” reasons; and second, to ensure a smooth ride for the Chief Minister. After a brief stopover, the CM left for Chennai.

However, the engineers took their own time to lay the speed breakers again, much to the confusion of road users who were used to the presence of the humps.

Only a week ago, the speed breakers were laid again - only to be removed on Thursday night and Friday morning in all the places.

Though the men and machines were busy knocking off the speed breaker in front of the Government Rajaji Hospital and near Old Ramanathapuram Collector’s office near Anna bus stand, the debris was not cleared.And road users are baffled over the sudden demolition and resurfacing of speed breakers.
