Senate members of BU seek explanations for alleged irregularities

Members of the 200-plus Senate of the Bharathiar University on Friday sought answers to alleged irregularities in various departments in the institutions.

Sources, who attended the meeting, said that they questioned the University management appointing 68 persons for various posts when the vacancy for sanctioned posts was only 28, the extension given to the director of management department to submit lien, the failure to follow roster system in appointing faculty in constituent colleges and sought explanations for objections raised in the audit report.

The Senate members also wanted to know why the University had not appointed persons full time to the posts of Registrar, Public Relations Officer, Director - School of Distance Education, Director - Centre for Participatory Programme, NSS Coordinator and Director-PG Centre. They also questioned the delay in tabling audit reports, the sources said and added that the University management denied any wrong doing in appointment of teaching and non-teaching staff. It also claimed that it had no information of the purported DVAC inquiry into alleged wrong doings in appointments.

The University management also tabled audit report for the 2014-15 financial year. Around 150 members participated in the meeting, the sources added.
