The number of seats for the M.Ch (surgical gastroenterology/G.I. surgery) course offered at Madras Medical College (MMC) has gone up from two to six. The Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical Univer-sity has increased the number of seats after detailed inspections. The Postgraduate Medical Education Committee has decided the recognition be for a maximum period of 5 years. S.M. Chandramohan, head of the surgical gastro-enterology department, said, with this, MMC becomes the college with the most seats in that discipline in the country, as per the website of the Medical Council of India.
