‘Passenger traffic growing every year’

The Dindigul Chamber of Commerce and Industry appealed to the Southern Railway to extend Pallavan Express up to Dindigul at its 45th general body meeting here on Sunday.

The members said passenger traffic was growing every year and the district needed a separate train to Chennai from Dindigul.

Extension of this train would serve the purpose.

The State government should take all efforts to set up a government medical college in Dindigul, which was announced in 2011.

The proposal was still pending with the government. Efforts should be made to set up examination centres for NEET exams for the benefit of students, the members said.

Even three years after upgrading the city into a Corporation, basic infrastructure was not developed till now, the members said, adding that the government should act swiftly to give a complete facelift to the city.

Tax exemption sought

A resolution demanded total tax exemption for hand-made locks.

The chamber thanked the Central and State governments for setting up AIIMS hospital in Madurai.
