TN to be short of 750 MBBS seats this year

The Union health ministry has debarred Chennaibased Ponnaiyah Ramajayam Institute of Medical Sciences from admitting students in 150 MBBS seats for the next two academic years. This is the fifth college in the state to be barred from admitting students to MBBS courses this year, leaving the state with 750 fewer seats. With this, the state has lost 10% of its 6,850 MBBS seats making it tougher for MBBS aspirants to get a seat. For the first time this year, admission will be done based on the scores in the National Eligibility-cumEntrance Test as mandated by the Supreme Court.
