CHENNAI: Acting swiftly, online pharmacies, who were aggrieved over the interim stay granted on Wednesday, which banned sale of medicines online, have moved the High Court to vacate the stay. They submitted that though the drugs are booked online, they are sourced from licensed pharmacies. The firms that deliver the medicines are doing only delivery services and do not actually sell medicines.

Clarifying that the prohibition is only for firms that sell medicines without a valid licence, Justice R Mahadevan agreed to hear the pleas in detail on Friday. On Wednesday, Justice Mahadevan passed the interim order while admitting a plea moved by Tamil Nadu Chemists & Druggists Association against online sale of medicines. The association said that buying medicines from unlicensed stores can be risky as they may sell fake drugs.

KOLKATA: A day after AAI officials said that two IndiGo aircraft averted a mid-air collision, the airline said Friday both planes had "sufficient horizontal and vertical separation" within the regulatory requirements.

The Airports Authority of India (AAI) officials had said that possible collision of the two IndiGo aircraft was averted after the Air Traffic Control (ATC) tower in Kolkata instructed one plane to turn right and move away from the other one that had come at the same level.

The incident happened at the border airspace of India and Bangladesh, AAI officials said Thursday.

When contacted, AAI Regional Executive Director (Eastern Region) S P Yadav Friday said, "Our stand is the same", referring to the incident.

"We have cross-checked the flight data of the aircraft involved (6E-856 and 6E-571), both aircraft had sufficient horizontal and vertical separation within the regulatory requirements. Hence, the automated proximity warning was not even triggered," IndiGo said in a statement Friday.

On Thursday, a senior AAI official at the Kolkata airport said, "both the aircraft, belonging to low-cost carrier IndiGo, had come on the same level on Wednesday evening and posed a threat to both the aeroplanes".

"One aircraft was going to Guwahati from Chennai and the other from Guwahati to Kolkata. The planes had come close to each other around 5. 10 pm," he had said.

At that time, the Kolkata-bound flight was at 36,000 feet in Bangladesh airspace and the other one at 35,000 feet in Indian airspace.

The Bangladesh ATC had asked the Kolkata-bound flight to descend to 35,000 ft and when the aircraft followed the order, it came close to the aircraft which was at 35,000 ft, the official had said.

An ATC official in Kolkata noticed it and immediately ordered the Chennai-Guwahati flight to make a right turn and move away from the path of the descending aircraft, averting a disaster, he had said.

TIRUCHY: Bird-hit incidents resulting in emergency landing of flights and cancellation are common in the aviation sector. Ever heard of a small bird hitting a train to a standstill? It happened on Friday, when an express train in Tiruchy division was stranded for more than an hour. According to officials,  the Coimbatore — Mayiladuthurai Jan Shatabdi Express (Train No 12084) was stopped at Mutharasanallur railway station near Tiruchy after a bird hit the pantograph — the apparatus mounted on the roof that transmits power from the overhead line to the engine — and got entangled there.  

Officials in the station conveyed the information to authorities in Tiruchy and the power was cut for some time to ensure safety. A technical team from Tiruchy reached Mutharasanallur and inspected the pantograph and the engine of the train after removing the carcass of the bird. 

“The engine didn’t face any issues. Power got disconnected as the bird was entangled in the pantograph. After stopping the power, we removed the carcass and the train left on its onward journey around 12: 19 pm, a delay of about 1 hour 30 minutes,” said sources. The train left Coimbatore at 7:10 am and  reached Mutharasanallur at 10:50 am. 

Several passengers were curious to know why the train had stopped in a small station for so long. Rumours spread that it was a peacock that stopped the train. Railways dismissed these rumours and confirmed that it was only small bird and it’s a very rare accident.

College students get blank hall tickets from MKU

600 students of a college allowed to sit for examination without hall tickets

With examinations for undergraduate courses commencing on Thursday, students from a few arts and science colleges affiliated to Madurai Kamaraj University were taken by surprise on Wednesday when they received blank hall tickets from the newly introduced online system.

Nearly 600 first year students from at least one of the colleges were allowed to sit for the examination without hall tickets on Thursday while the university claimed that the issue was resolved for other colleges.

While the MKU was until now issuing printed copies of hall tickets to its non-autonomous affiliated colleges for further distribution to students, it introduced an online system this year to enable students to download their hall tickets from the university’s website by entering their registration numbers.

At the eleventh hour

Though the first year examinations were scheduled from Thursday and the second year exams from Friday, the hall tickets, however, were uploaded only on Wednesday afternoon, resulting in MKU’s website witnessing a spike in traffic.

According to a faculty member from MKU’s Constituent College in Tirumangalam, almost all first year students and students from departments like Commerce and Tamil in remaining years received blank hall tickets.

“When we entered our registration numbers, we just received a blank hall ticket with no photograph or other details. However, our friends from a neighbouring college in Tirumangalam were able to download theirs successfully,” said a second year Tamil Literature student from the college.

He said the issue was not resolved until Thursday evening.

Around 600 first year students in the college sat for the examination on Thursday without hall tickets, an official said. “We hope the issue will be resolved at least by Friday,” he added.

Denying knowledge of the issue faced at MKU’s Constituent College in Tirumangalam, O. Ravi, Controller of Examinations, said similar issues reported elsewhere were resolved.

“Owing to heavy traffic, some students received blank hall tickets. But the issue got automatically resolved soon after,” he said, adding the issue in Tirumangalam college would be enquired.

On why the hall tickets were released at the eleventh hour, he said many colleges submitted the details of students only on Monday.

It can be noted that at least 10 affiliated colleges of the MKU, including the constituent college in Tirumangalam, had admitted more students than the sanctioned strength. Following an enquiry, the Convenor’s Committee decided only earlier this week to allow the excess students to appear for examinations considering their future.

Aspirants of NEET UG 2019 will not have to face the morning rush hour as the test will be conducted from 2pm onwards. The National Testing Agency (NTA) which will be conducting the entrance test for MBBS/ BDS has made the change in timing of the test so that the candidates don’t get caught in the early morning traffic.

The online registration process for the exam started on Thursday and would continue throughout the month till November 30, 2018. The test is scheduled for May 5, 2019. On the opening day of the registration disability right activists however demanded a stop to the process calling if discriminatory because of the incomplete information given in NEET (UG) 2019 as well as ministry of health and family welfare, MCI and MCC websites.

NEET UG would continue to be in pen-paper mode and this will be the only test to be conducted by NTA offline. However, other processes right from registration to issue of NEET admit card will be online. This is for the first time that the registration process is happening much in advance. The application is a three-step process and final submission of online application form will remain incomplete if step-2 (uploading of photographs and signature) and step-3 (payment of the fee) are not completed. Such forms will stand rejected and no correspondence on this account will be entertained.

Aspirants are also being asked to print at least four printouts of ‘confirmation page’ after successful remittance of fee.

CHENNAI : To facilitate the operation of special buses from Chennai to neighbouring States without any traffic congestion just before the start of Deepavali, the departure points of the services have been changed and their routes slightly modified.

An official release from Chennai City Traffic Police said from November 2 to 5, buses will be operated from six locations.

➤ Buses starting from Koyambedu will not pass through Tambaram and Perungalathur and will take route via Maduravoyal – Poonamallee – Nazarethpet - Outer Ring Road and reach Vandaloor. The passengers who have reserved their tickets may board the buses at the temporary bus stands at Urapakkam or Kelambakkam instead of Tambaram and Perungulathur.
➤ The busses bound for Madurai, Tirunelveli, Kaniyakumari and Southern districts will be operated from CMBT Koyambedu.
➤ The buses bound for Thiruvannamalai will be operated from Tambaram Railway Station.
➤ The busses bound for Kumbakonam and Thanjavur will be operated via. Vikravandi and Banrutti from Tambaram Anna Bus Stand (MEPZ).
➤ The busses bound for Puducherry, Cuddalore and Chidambaram via. ECR will be operated from K.K. Nagar Bus Stand.
➤ Madhavaram Bus Stand: The busses bound for Oothukottai, Kalahasthi, Tirupathi, Nellore and towards Andhra Pradesh will be operated from Madhavaram Bus Stand.
➤ Poonamallee Bus Stand: The busses bound for Kancheepuram, Seiyaru, Arcot, Arani, Vellore, Tirupathur, Hosur and Dharmapuri will be operated from Poonamallee Bus Stand.

எல்லா வசதிகளும் செய்யப்பட்டு குழந்தை 4 மணிக்கு ஆம்புலன்ஸில் ஏற்றப்படுகிறது. ஆம்புலன்ஸ் உள்பகுதியில் குணாளனின் உறவினரும் ஸ்ரீதரனும் மட்டும் இருக்கிறார்கள். வெண்டிலெட்டரில் குழந்தை வைத்துப் பராமரிக்கப்படுகிறது. ஆம்புலன்ஸ் ஓட்டுநருக்கு அருகில் குழந்தையின் தந்தை குணாளன் அமர்ந்திருக்கிறார். சரியாக 4:10 மணிக்கு ஆம்புலன்ஸ் மருத்துவமனையிலிருந்து கிளம்புகிறது. மருத்துவமனையிலிருந்து கிளம்பிய ஆம்புலன்ஸுக்கு முன்பு 4 ஆம்புலன்ஸ்கள் சாலையை கிளியர் செய்து கொடுத்துக் கொண்டே செல்கிறார்கள். ஒவ்வொரு ஆம்புலன்ஸிலும் ஒலிபெருக்கி இருப்பதால் வாகனங்களை ஒழுங்குபடுத்த அவை உதவியாய் இருந்தன.

குழந்தை இருக்கிற ஆம்புலன்ஸ் ஓட்டுநர் அலெக்ஸண்டார் வாகனத்தை 100 கி.மீட்டருக்கும் அதிகமாக இயக்குகிறார். எந்த இடத்திலும் குழியிலோ, வேகத்தடைகளிலோ வாகனம் குலுங்காமல் லாகவமாக இயக்குகிறார். ஓட்டுநருக்குப் பக்கத்தில் குழந்தையின் தந்தை பதற்றத்துடன் அமர்ந்திருக்கிறார். திருச்சி நம்பர் ஒன் சுங்கச்சாவடி வரை திருச்சி ஆம்புலன்ஸ்கள் சாலையைச் சீர்ப்படுத்திக் கொடுக்கிறார்கள். அங்கிருந்து அடுத்த எல்லையான பெரம்பலூர் வரை தொழுதூர் ஆம்புலன்ஸ் வாகன ஓட்டுநர்கள் பொறுப்பெடுத்துக் கொள்கிறார்கள். 4 ஆம்புலன்ஸ்கள் முன்னே செல்ல பின்னால் குழந்தையிருக்கிற ஆம்புலன்ஸ் சென்று கொண்டிருக்கிறது. வாட்ஸ் அப்பில் வாகனம் எங்கிருக்கிறது என்கிற தகவல் நொடிக்கொரு முறை ஆடியோ செய்திகளாக வந்து விழுந்த வண்ணம் இருக்கிறது. என்ன நடக்கிறது என்பது மற்ற வாகன ஓட்டிகளுக்கு ஓரளவு தெரியப்படுத்துகிறார்கள். எல்லா வாகனங்களும் ஆம்புலன்ஸுக்கு வழி விட்டு நிற்க ஆரம்பித்தன.

இதற்கு இடையில் குழந்தை எங்கே எனக் கேட்டு பல அழைப்புகள் அவரது மனைவியிடமிருந்து குணாளனுக்கு வந்திருக்கிறது. ``குழந்தை இன்னொரு மருத்துவமனையில் தீவிர சிகிச்சை பிரிவில் இருக்கிறது பயப்படாத ஏதும் ஆகாது'' எனச் சொல்லி மனைவியை ஆறுதல்படுத்தி கொண்டே வருகிறார். ஏனெனில் குழந்தை பிறந்ததிலிருந்து அவரது மனைவி குழந்தையைப் பார்க்கவே இல்லை. பிள்ளைக்குத் தாய்ப்பால் கொடுக்கவேண்டுமென்பது ஒவ்வொரு தாயினுடைய கனவு என்பதால் என்ன நடக்கிறது என்றே புரியாமல் அவரது மனைவி கிருஷ்ணவேணி  வலியோடு இருக்கிறார். குழந்தையை எப்படியும் காப்பாற்றிவிடுவோம் என்கிற நம்பிக்கையில் முடிந்த வரை தகவலை மனைவியிடமிருந்து மறைத்தே வைத்திருந்தார்.

விழுப்புரத்திலிருந்து திருச்சி நோக்கிக் கிளம்பிய இரண்டு ஆம்புலன்ஸ்கள் தொழுதூரில் ஆம்புலன்ஸைப் பொறுப்பெடுத்துக் கொள்கிறார்கள். எந்தச் சிரமமுமின்றி ஆம்புலன்ஸ் விழுப்புரம் எல்லையை வந்தடைகிறது. விழுப்புரத்தில் தயாராய் இருந்த மேலும் 5  ஆம்புலன்ஸ்கள் பணியில் இணைந்து கொள்கிறார்கள். தேசிய நெடுஞ்சாலையில் 5 கிலோ மீட்டருக்கு ஒரு ஆம்புலன்ஸ் ஓட்டுநர்கள் நின்று சாலையைச் சரிப்படுத்திக் கொண்டே இருக்கிறார்கள். மொத்தம் 7 ஆம்புலன்ஸ்களும் திண்டிவனம் வரை கொண்டு வந்து விடுகிறார்கள். அதற்குள் செங்கல்பட்டைச் சேர்ந்த 3 ஆம்புலன்ஸ்கள் திண்டிவனம் வந்துவிடுகின்றன. திண்டிவனத்திலிருந்து அவர்கள் ஆம்புலன்ஸைப் பொறுப்பெடுத்துக் கொள்கிறார்கள். எந்த இடையீருமின்றி ஆம்புலன்ஸ் திண்டிவனத்தைக் கடக்கிறது. செங்கல்பட்டை வந்தடையும் போது வேறு 4 ஆம்புலஸ்கள் அவர்களோடு சேர்ந்து கொள்கிறார்கள். இருக்கிற சிக்கலே இனிதான் ஆரம்பிக்க இருக்கிறது. சென்னையை நெருங்க நெருங்க வாகன நெரிசல் அதிகமாகிறது. பீக் அவர்ஸ் என்பதால் கூடுவாஞ்சேரியில் 5 ஆம்புலன்ஸ்கள் சேர்ந்து சாலையை முடிந்த வரை சரி படுத்துகிறார்கள்.

எந்த இடத்திலும் ஆம்புலன்ஸ் நின்றுவிடக் கூடாது என்கிற தகவல் வாட்ஸ் அப்பில் வந்து கொண்டே இருந்ததால் சென்னையைச் சேர்ந்த ஆம்புலன்ஸ் ஓட்டுநர்கள் அதிக சிரத்தை எடுத்து சாலையைச் சீர்ப்படுத்துகிறார்கள். இரவு 7 மணிக்கு 10 ஆம்புலன்ஸ்களின் சத்தம் வாகன ஓட்டிகளைப் பதற்றப்படுத்தியது. என்ன ஏதென்று தெரியாதவர்கள் எல்லோரும் ஆம்புலன்ஸுக்கு வழி விடுகிறார்கள். எந்த எல்லையைச் சவாலான எல்லை என நினைத்தார்களோ அது நினைத்ததை விட எளிதாக இருந்தது. ஒவ்வொரு 4 கி.மீ இடைவெளியிலும் ஒரு ஆம்புலன்ஸ் நிறுத்தப்பட்டது. பெருங்குளத்தூர், தாம்பரம், கிண்டி என ஒவ்வொரு ஆம்புலன்ஸாகச் சேர்ந்து மொத்தம் 15 ஆம்புலன்ஸ்கள் வழி ஏற்படுத்திக் கொடுக்க சரியாக 8 மணி 20 நிமிடத்தில் அண்ணா சாலையில் இருக்கிற தனியார் மருத்துவமனைக்குக் கொண்டு வந்து சேர்க்கிறார்கள். குழந்தையின் அப்பா குணாளன் கண்ணீர் மல்க ஓட்டுநருக்கு நன்றி தெரிவிக்கிறார். மிகப் பெரிய பொறுப்பை முடித்த மகிழ்ச்சியில் அலெக்ஸாண்டரும் ஸ்ரீதரனும் நிம்மதி பெரு மூச்சு விடுகிறார்கள்.

மருத்துவமனையில் அனுமதிக்கப்பட்ட குழந்தையைப் பரிசோதித்த மருத்துவர்கள் இதயத்தில் எந்த அடைப்பும் இல்லை எனவும் நுரையீரல் பகுதியில் பிரச்னை இருப்பதாகத் தெரிவிக்கிறார்கள். நுரையீரல் சிகிச்சையைத் தொடரப் பல லட்சங்கள் செலவாகும் என்பதால் 2 மணி நேரத் தீவிர சிகிச்சைக்குப் பிறகு இரவு 10 மணிக்கு எழும்பூரில் உள்ள குழந்தை நல அரசு மருத்துவமனைக்கு மாற்றப்படுகிறது. அரசு மருத்துவமனையில் குழந்தையைச் சோதித்த மருத்துவர்கள் குழந்தையை வென்டிலேட்டரில் வைத்து தீவிர சிகிச்சை அளித்து வருகிறார்கள். நேற்று காலை குழந்தை சென்னையில் சீராக இருப்பதாக முதன் முறையாகக் குணாளன் மனைவியிடம் சொல்லியிருக்கிறார்.
