The Times of India remains the No 1 English daily in Chennai, growing steadily over the last four quarters to touch an average issue readership (AIR) of 2.96 lakh, shows the latest Indian Readership Survey (IRS).

The IRS for the fourth quarter of 2019 shows TOI Chennai increased its lead over the nearest competitor, The Hindu, to 49,000 from 1,000 in the first quarter. While TOI Chennai’s AIR grew by 17,000 between IRS quarter three and quarter four, The Hindu’s AIR dropped by 20,000.

TOI is also the fastest growing English daily in the rest of Tamil Nadu — it grew 165% by the fourth quarter compared to the IRS first quarter figures. In the fourth quarter alone, TOI’s AIR grew by 12,000 in the rest of Tamil Nadu, compared to The Hindu’s growth of 2,000.

The Times of India remains the dominant market leader among English dailies countrywide, with a total readership of more than 1.73 crore, almost equal to the combined readership of the three biggest dailies from outside the Times Group — The Hindu, Hindustan Times and The Indian Express.

The latest IRS data show that while the readership of all English dailies rose by 5.9 lakh over the previous quarter, this was mainly driven by a 3.6 lakh-rise in the readership of the TOI main paper. The share of group publications (The Economic Times and Mirrors besides TOI) among English dailies continued to grow to reach 52.6%.

The all-India dominance is also reflected in the country’s largest cities. In almost every case, the TOI main paper has either consolidated its leadership and widened the gap with its closest rival or, in the few cities where it is not the leader, it has narrowed the gap with the leader.

India’s online food delivery sector is headed for consolidation as ride-hailing major Uber is looking to sell its Ubereats business in the country in run-up to its public offering, according to three sources familiar with the development. The San Francisco-based company is in talks with Bengaluru-based Swiggy and has also been in discussions with Gurugram-based Zomato for the deal, as the two rivals are competing for market leadership in the space, said these sources.

The transaction will be structured as a share-swap deal, with Uber taking shares in the buyers for the agreed upon valuation. “Swiggy is currently leading the discussions but Zomato is also in contention as well,” said one of the sources mentioned above, adding that the valuation and share-swap ratios are being discussed.

Ubereats’ India business is currently doing about 1,50,000 to 2,50,000 deliveries a day with gross sales run rate of about $200-250 million, according to multiple industry executives.

Both Ola and Zomato do four-five times more deliveries than Ubereats, said these executives.

This makes Ubereats a contender for a distant third spot in the market again rival ridehailing company Ola-owned Foodpanda. “The Ubereats India business may get valued at about two-to-three times their gross sales,” said one of the sources mentioned above, pegging the valuation at over $500 million.

“We do not comment on rumour or speculation,” said an Uber India spokesperson. When contacted, Swiggy and Zomato spokespersons declined to comment.

The transaction will help Uber cut down loss from the India business as it heads for a public offering. Uber, which has already made a confidential filing with US regulators for an IPO, reported loss of $1.8 billion for 2018.

“Ubereats was losing about $15-20 million a month in India late last year,” said an investor tracking the space.

India is one of the markets where Uber still sees high loss even as it has sold off operations in China, Russia and Southeast Asia to rivals. While there have been rumours of a potential consolidation with Ola, as both companies share SoftBank as the largest shareholder, these talks have not progressed. This has forced Uber to look at other alternatives. Ubereats had said last year it is adding 4,500 delivery personnel a week and 100 restaurants a day in the country.

Soon after West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee claimed “moral victory” following the Supreme Court ruling that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) can question Kolkata police commissioner Rajeev Kumar but not arrest the Bengal top cop, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) interpreted the apex court order to its own advantage. Union Law Minister and senior BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad said the Supreme Court order was “a great moral victory for the CBI”.

“This order was given by the Supreme Court to investigate the conspiracy angle and also money laundering angle. This investigation must be done in a fair manner. Let’s not politicise it. This is a great moral victory for the CBI,” the Union law minister said.

Ravi Shankar Prasad further accused Mamata Banerjee and “other political parties” of maintaining a “silence” even as lakhs of small investors were cheated” in the chit fund scams in West Bengal. Follow live updates here

Prasad said, “Today we have to ask larger questions on behalf of the party (BJP). Lakhs of small investors were cheated and looted of their money. Is it not our moral obligation to push for an investigation? Why is Mamata ji silent on this? Why are the other political parties silent on this?”

The law minister’s comments followed Banerjee’s claim that the Supreme Court order vindicated her sit-in protest in support of the police officers of West Bengal. Banerjee said, “Rajeev Kumar never said he will not be available. He said we want to meet at a mutual place, if you want to ask for any clarification, you can come and we can sit.”

“But what they (CBI) started doing? They wanted to arrest him. They went to his house, on a secret operation, on Sunday, without any notice. That court said ‘no arrest’. We are so obliged. It will strengthen the morale of the officers,” Banerjee said in Kolkata, where her protest entered third day on Tuesday.

Earlier in the day, the Supreme Court directed Rajeev Kumar to “faithfully” cooperate with the CBI and appear before the central agency, which is probing cases related to the Saradha chit fund scam. A Supreme Court bench headed by Chief Justice of India (CJI) Ranjan Gogoi fixed Meghalaya capital Shillong as the venue for meeting of CBI officials and Koltaka top cop Rajeev Kumar.

The CBI had told the Supreme Court that it had apprehension that Rajeev Kumar, who header a special investigation team in the case earlier, may tamper with evidence related to the chit fund scam. The matter will come up for hearing next in the Supreme Court on February 20.

Banerjee began her sit-in after a CBI team reached Kolkata on Sunday to question Rajeev Kumar in connection with Sharada and Rose Valley chit fund scams in West Bengal. The CBI officials were allegedly detained at a police station in an unusual chain of events that also saw Banerjee rushing to Rajeev Kumar’s residence. The CBI officials were later released apparently under instructions from Banerjee.

The BJP has alleged that the leaders of ruling Trinamool Congress party were the beneficiaries of the chit fund scams in which crores of rupees were fraudulently collected from small investors. Banerjee has said it was her government, after coming to power for the first time in 2011, which probed the chit fund scams and arrested Saradha chairman Sudipta Sen. She said Rs 250-300 crore was returned to the duped depositors due to action taken by her government.

The Supreme Court on Tuesday ordered Kolkata police commissioner Rajeev Kumar to cooperate with the CBI in the Saradha chit fund case. The court though made it clear that no coercive steps, including arrest, can be taken against him.

“We direct the chief secretary of the state and the DGP to file their replies on or before February 18,” a bench led by Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi said on Tuesday. (Follow live updates here)

West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee, who is sitting on a dharna against CBI’s attempts to question Rajeev Kumar, said the court verdict is a “moral victory”. “Rajeev Kumar never said I will not be available. They (CBI) came to arrest. The court said no arrest,” she said. The Mamata Banerjee government has been involved in showdown with the Centre after the CBI came to the Kolkata police chief’s doors on Sunday night to question him.

The Supreme Court said Kumar should appear at a neutral place—Shillong. The court said it may seek personal presence of the police officers after it considers the response files by the chief secretary and DGP. If presence is required then they would be intimated by February 19.

Attorney General KK Venugopal, who appeared for the CBI, said the unprecedented events in West Bengal showed there was complete breakdown of the constitutional machinery.

The CBI moved the court seeking directions to Rajeev Kumar to cooperate with the investigation in the Saradha chit fund case. The CBI had raised suspicions that the Kolkata top cop was destroying evidence in the chit fund case.

On Sunday night, a CBI team was detained by Kolkata police in an unprecedented chain of events that also witnessed chief minister Mamata Banerjee rushing to Kumar’s residence. The CBI officers were taken to Shakespeare Sarani police station and released later under instruction from Mamata Banerjee.

பிப்ரவரி 1-ஆம் தேதி தாக்கல் செய்யப்படும் 2019-ஆம் ஆண்டுக்கான இடைக்கால பட்ஜெட்டின்போது மத்திய நிதியமைச்சர் அருண் ஜேட்லி இந்த அறிவிப்பை வெளியிடலாம் என்று எதிர்பார்க்கப்படுகிறது.
மக்களவைத் தேர்தல் வரும் சூழலில், வரி செலுத்தும் தனி நபர்களின் ஆதரவைக் கவரும் வகையில் பாஜக தலைமையிலான மத்திய அரசு இந்த நடவடிக்கையை மேற்கொள்ளலாம் எனத் தெரிகிறது. 

தற்போதைய நிலையில் ரூ.2.5 லட்சம் வரையில் ஈட்டப்படும் தனி நபர் வருமானத்துக்கு வரி விலக்கு அளிக்கப்படுகிறது. ரூ.2.5 லட்சம் முதல் ரூ.5 லட்சம் வரையிலான வருவாய்க்கு 5 சதவீதமும், ரூ.5 லட்சம் முதல் ரூ.10 லட்சம் வரையிலான வருவாய்க்கு 20 சதவீதமும், ரூ.10 லட்சத்துக்கு மேலான வருவாய்க்கு 30 சதவீதமும் வரியாக வசூலிக்கப்படுகிறது.
80 வயதுக்கு மேற்பட்டோர் ஈட்டும் ரூ.5 லட்சம் வரையிலான வருவாய்க்கு தற்போது வரி விலக்கு அமலில் இருப்பது குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது. ரூ.5 லட்சம் வருவாய் ஈட்டும் ஒரு நபர், மருத்துவ மற்றும் போக்குவரத்துச் செலவினங்களாக தனது வரித் தொகையிலிருந்து ரூ.40,000 வரையில் கழித்துக் கொள்ள வழிவகை உள்ளது.

CHENNAI: The Enforcement Directorate has attached shares and four immovable properties worth   Rs 50.02 crore, belonging to R Subramanian, the promoter and managing director of Subiksha Trading Services, who was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate for money laundering under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).

Subramanian, whose retail chain of stores with the brand name of ‘Subiksha’, sells products in fast moving commercial goods (FMCG), pharma, groceries, fruits, vegetables, apart from seasonal retail business and telecom products, was arrested after he was charge-sheeted earlier in a bank fraud case by the Central Bureau of Investigation, (Bank Security & Fraud Cell), Bangalore, in 2013, for defrauding Bank of Baroda, Corporate Financial Services Branch in Chennai, to the tune of Rs 77 crore.

During the course of the Enforcement Directorate investigation, it came to light that the Economic Offence Wing (EOW), Chennai, had also registered a Criminal Case under The Tamil Nadu Protection of Interests of Depositors Act against the accused R Subramanian, for non-refund of depositors’ money and interest, approximately around Rs 150 crore, by Vishwapriya Financial Services Limited wherein, R Subramanian was the Managing Director of the Company.


It was also found that R Subramanian and Subhiksha Trading Services Limited, has defaulted the loan amount to the tune of Rs 890 crore (approximately, including interest), from a consortium of bankers and the cases are pending before the Debt Recovery Appellate Tribunal, Chennai.

Immovable properties worth Rs 9.47 crore had earlier been attached by the Directorate. This includes the attachment of immovable properties worth Rs 4.55 crore in Neelankarai in Marakanam in 2002 and Rs 4.92 crore properties in Vepery. Therefore, the properties so far attached under the provisions of PMLA, amount to Rs 59.49 crore, said P Manikkavel, joint director of Enforcement Directorate.

DVAC books ex-Teynampet ACP for taking bribe from undertrials

The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) has booked a corruption case against CS Muthalagu, former assistant commissioner of police (ACP), Teynampet range, for allegedly taking bribes from undertrials to fix cases.

Muthalagu was in the news in May after audio clips of him discussing a bribe of ₹5 lakh to let off an accused in an abduction case had gone viral on social media. He was later shunted out to vacancy reserve.

The DVAC conducted a preliminary inquiry and based on its findings filed a case against him on Tuesday. Investigations revealed that based on intelligence tip-offs, Muthalagu had rounded up criminals in a private hotel in Teynampet and registered a case. The DVAC said notorious gangster Rocket Raja and four others, including brothers Sundar and Prakash, were sent to prison. The brothers were involved in a case which was transferred to the Central Crime Branch. While Prakash got arrested, Sundar absconded and got anticipatory bail later.

The DVAC said Muthalagu met all the accused separately and contacted Prakash on his mobile phone. He directed Prakash to call him on WhatsApp and demanded ₹20 lakh for letting off Prakash and his brother. Their conversations revealed that Prakash haggled and brought down the bribe amount to ₹5 lakh.

Unknown to the ACP, Prakash had recorded the call and burnt it on CDs. These discussions were held between February and May 2018.

On May 7, Muthalagu arrested Prakash, Sundar and Rocket Raja. The DVAC probe revealed that Muthalagu had already received upto ₹3.5 lakh from Sundar when he was absconding, through his advocate in connection with another case. The DVAC also obtained permission from home secretary Niranjan Mardi on December 3 before filing the case against the ACP. A voice analysis test was also done on the CDs, the DVAC said.

Chennai: Additional Superintendent of Police(Cyber Crime) S.P. Lavanya urged women against adding unidentified persons to their social media accounts as she spoke about issues that women face in cyber space and how they can seek legal help.

Speaking at a seminar, ‘Digital Security: Emerging Trends’, conducted by the Digital Security Association of India, Ms Lavanya gave tops on the various ways to protect privacy online. “When faced with online sexual harassment, most websites have a reporting mechanism. If a harasser is reported, the website has its own policy of how to treat them,”she said.

If the harassment is of an extreme nature, the police should be informed, she said. “Suo moto cognizance will be taken and immediate action will be ensured,”Ms Lavanya said.

Speaking of apps which ask for permission to access the photo gallery and contacts of mobile phone uses, Ms Lavanya said that the extent of the privacy invasion is unknown. “The app can access all information which could include private images. The contacts list can also be accessed, which could go terribly wrong.”

Ms Lavanya stated that some laws could be beneficial if used correctly but their abuse, like in the case of Section 66A of the IT Act was wrong. Women, especially in rural areas, do not understand the extent of violation of privacy. “We need to work towards empowering them,”she said.

Raja Senthoor Pandian, counsel for V K Sasikala, on Friday questioned the Justice (retd) A Arumughaswamy commission why questions regarding former chief minister J Jayalalithaa’s need for an angiogram were posed to health secretary J Radhakrishnan IAS and not to the All India Instituteof Medical Sciences(AIIMS) cardiothoracic expert V Devagourou.

Why wasn’t the same question posed to him? Is the commission trying to allege a conspiracy by theCentral governmentin Jayalalithaa’s treatment?” Pandian said during the proceedings.Helater confirmeditin a press briefing.

Radhakrishnan based his entire deposition on Friday on reports given by AIIMS, who said the treatment given was satisfactory. He also categorically denied allegations made by Khan in his petition including thatof being Apollo’sspokesperson. Sources said at one point he broke down after whichthejudgeexcused him for a few minutes.

Khan had alleged that Radhakrishnan had not filed any report with any cabinet minister regarding Jayalalithaa’s treatment.Pandian quotedchief secretary Girija Vaidyanathan’s letters to the commission on October 29 and 30,whereshe said Radhakrishnan and her predecessor Rama Mohan Rao had briefed ministers and top officials about Jayalalithaa’s health on a daily basis during her hospitalisation, and there was no needfor them tofile a separate report.

During the hearing, sources said the commission quoted from former chief secretary Rama Mohan Rao’s deposition where he expressed shock on Apollo “washing its hands off ” the medical bulletins issued during Jayalalithaa’s hospitalisation (Apollo has held that the government had vetted the bulletins issued on the hospital letterhead). The commission asked Radhakrishnan why Apollo didn’t move a petition earlier, but was trying to ‘protect’ him, alleging that he was its spokesperson. At this juncture, Apollo counsel Maimoona Badsha objected, saying that another person’s deposition was being thrust on Radhakrishnan, sources said.

காற்று போல எங்கும் நீக்கமற நிறைந்துவிட்ட பிளாஸ்டிக் பொருட்களை நிச்சயம் மனிதர்களால் அவ்வளவு எளிதில் விட்டொழிக்க முடியாது. படிப்படியாகவே அதன் நாசவலையில் இருந்து விடுபட வேண்டும்.

கால்நடைத் தீவன ஊழல் வழக்கில் ராஷ்ட்ரிய ஜனதாதள தலைவர் லாலு பிரசாத்துக்கு மூன்றரை ஆண்டுகள் சிறை தண்டனை விதித்து ராஞ்சி சிறப்பு நீதிமன்றம் தீர்ப்பளித்தது. கால்நடைத் தீவன ஊழலில் லாலு மீது மட்டும் 5 வழக்குகள் தொடரப்பட்டன. இதில் சாஸ்பாஸா கருவூல மோசடியில் 2013-ம் ஆண்டில் அவருக்கு ராஞ்சி சிபிஐ நீதிமன்றம் 5 ஆண்டுகள் சிறை தண்டனை விதித்தது. அவர் மீதான 2-வது கால்நடைத் தீவன வழக்கில் அளிக்கப்பட்ட தீர்ப்பாகும்.

புதிய நியமனம் (ஜன.21)

தலைமைத் தேர்தல் ஆணையராக ஓம் பிரகாஷ் ராவத்தை (வயது 64) நியமித்து மத்திய சட்ட அமைச்சகம் உத்தரவிட்டது. தலைமைத் தேர்தல் ஆணையராக இருக்கும் அக்சல் குமார் ஜோதியின் பதவிக்காலம் வரும் 22-ம் தேதியுடன் முடிவதையொட்டி ராவத் நியமிக்கப்பட்டார்.

69-வது குடியரசு தினம் (ஜன.26)

சந்தனக் கடத்தல் வீரப்பனின் கூட்டாளி சைமன் (56) பெங்களூருவில் உள்ள விக்டோரியா மருத்துவமனையில் உயிரிழந்தார். கர்நாடக - தமிழக எல்லையான சுரக்காய் மடுவு என்கிற இடத்தில் கடந்த 1993-ம் ஆண்டு வீரப்பன் நடத்திய கண்ணிவெடித் தாக்குதலில் 5 போலீஸார் உட்பட 22 பேர் கொல்லப்பட்டனர். இந்த வழக்கில் வீரப்பனின் கூட்டாளியான சைமன் உட்பட 4 பேரை 1994-ல் கர்நாடக போலீஸார் கைது செய்தனர். இவருக்குத் தடா நீதிமன்றம் தூக்கு தண்டனை விதித்தநிலையில், மேல்முறையீட்டில் ஆயுள் தண்டனையாக உச்ச நீதிமன்றம் 2014-ல் குறைத்தது. கடந்த 24 ஆண்டுகளாக சிறையில் அடைக்கப்பட்டிருந்த சைமன் உடல்நலக் குறைவால் பெங்களூரு விக்டோரியா மருத்துவமனையில் உயிரிழந்தார்.

வெறுப்பு, விலகல் (ஏப்ரல். 21)




முன்னாள் பிரதமர் வாஜ்பாய் ஆட்சியில் நிதி அமைச்சராகவும், பாஜகவின் மூத்த தலைவருமான யஷ்வந்த் சின்ஹா கடந்த பல ஆண்டுகளாகக் கட்சியில் இருந்து ஓரம் கட்டப்பட்டார். இதனால், கடும் அதிருப்தியில் இருந்து வந்த யஷ்வந்த் சின்ஹா பாஜகவுடனான அனைத்துத் தொடர்புகளில் இருந்தும் விலகுவதாக அறிவித்து, கட்சியில் இருந்து விலகுவதாக அறிவித்தார். அதன் பின் பாஜகவைக் கடுமையாக விமர்சிப்பவராக யஷ்வந்த் சின்ஹா மாறினார்.

தூக்கு தண்டனை (ஏப்ரல்.22)

12 வயதுக்குட்பட்ட சிறுமிகளைப் பலாத்காரம் செய்த குற்றச்சாட்டில் சிக்குபவர்களுக்குத் தூக்கு தண்டனை அளிக்கும் அவசரச்சட்டத்துக்குக் குடியரசு தலைவர் ராம்நாத் கோவிந்த் ஒப்புதல் அளித்தார். இதையடுத்து குழந்தைகளை பலாத்காரம் செய்தால் அதிகபட்சமாக தூக்கு தண்டனை விதிப்பது நடைமுறைக்கு வந்துள்ளது.

Medically incorrect to say Jaya died on Dec 4: AIIMS doctor

It would be medically incorrect to say former chief minister J Jayalalithaa died on December 4, she died on December 5 as is in the medical records, Dr V Devagourou, cardiothoracic and vascular surgeon from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), told theJustice AArumughaswamy commission on Wednesday.

The doctor made this statement in response to a question raised by Raja Senthoor Pandian, counselfor VK Sasikala,Jayalalithaa’s close aide. He was also examined by Apollo counsel Maimoona Badsha.

Dr Devagourou told the commission that he been involved in 25 ECMO procedures and that he had personally checked on the night of December 5, 2016 that there was no improvement in Jayalalithaa’s condition. Only after that, with consultation with the Apollo team of doctors, was she declared dead.

When he reached on December 5, Jayalalithaa’s body temperature was brought back to normal (she was kept at a lower temperature to preserve brain function) and he switched on and off the pacemaker to check for signs of life, which was the normal procedure, sources quotedhim assaying.Normally a patient is kept on ECMO for 24 hours, he said.

He also clarified on the cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and sternotomy procedure done on Jayalalithaa after she suffered a cardiac arrest on December 4 evening stating that the normal procedure was to do it in tandem, sources said.

In a related development, Apollo Hospitals moved a petition before the commission a day after Jayalalithaa’s hospital bill summary was ‘leaked’. Citing media reports, Apollo prayed for maintaining confidentiality of the documents.

சென்னை நட்சத்திர ஹோட்டல்கள், கேளிக்கை விடுதிகளில் தடைச் செய்யப்பட்ட போதை மாத்திரைகள் கிடைப்பதாக எஸ்.ஆர்.எம்.சி போலீஸாருக்கு ரகசிய தகவல் கிடைத்தது. இதனால் போதைக் கும்பலைப் பிடிக்க அம்பத்தூர் துணை கமிஷனர் ஈஸ்வரன் உத்தரவின்பேரில் எஸ்.ஆர்.எம்.சி உதவி கமிஷனர் சந்திரசேகர் மேற்பார்வையில் இன்ஸ்பெக்டர் சங்கரநாராயணன் தலைமையில் எஸ்.ஐக்கள் ராஜா, சுரேஷ் மற்றும் காவலர்கள் வினோத், ஜெயராஜ் ஆகியோர் கொண்ட தனிப்படை அமைக்கப்பட்டது. தனிப்படை போலீஸார் போதைக் கடத்தல் கும்பலை ரகசியமாகக் கண்காணித்தனர்.

இந்தநிலையில் நைஜிரியைச் சேர்ந்த ஒருவர் போதைப் பொருள்களுடன் மதுரவாயல் பைபாஸ் டோல்கேட் பகுதிக்கு வரும் ரகசிய தகவல் போலீஸாருக்கு கிடைத்தது. உடனடியாக சம்பவ இடத்துக்குத் தனிப்படை போலீஸார் சென்றனர். அப்போது, நைஜீரியாவைச் சேர்ந்தவரும் அதை வாங்க வந்த சென்னையைச் சேர்ந்த 2 பேர் என மூன்று பேர் சந்தித்துப் பேசினர். அவர்களை போலீஸார் மடக்கிப் பிடித்து போலீஸ் நிலையத்துக்கு அழைத்து வந்தனர். அவர்களிடம் விசாரித்தபோது திடுக்கிடும் தகவல்கள் வெளியாகின.

இதுகுறித்து போலீஸார் கூறுகையில், ``எங்களுக்குக் கிடைத்த தகவலின்படி மதுரவாயல் பைபாஸ் பகுதியில் கண்காணிப்பில் ஈடுபட்டோம். அப்போது நைஜிரீயாவசைச் சேர்ந்த சுக்வா சைமன் ஓபினா என்பவரை சென்னையைச் சேர்ந்த குமரேசன், அருண் திவாகர் ஆகியோர் சந்தித்தனர். சுக்வா, கொடுத்த போதை மாத்திரைகளை அவர்கள் வாங்கியபோது மடக்கிப் பிடித்தோம். சுக்வாவிடமிருந்து 500 போதை மாத்திரைகள் (Ecstasy tablets), 18 கிராம் கோகைன் இன்னும் சில போதைப் பொருள்கள், லேப்டாப், செல்போன்கள், வாகனங்கள் ஆகியவற்றை பறிமுதல் செய்தோம். அதன்மதிப்பு பலலட்சம் ரூபாயாகும்.



ஒரு போதை மாத்திரையின் விலை 2,000 ரூபாய் முதல் 3,000 ரூபாய்க்கு விற்கப்படுகிறது. தமிழில் இந்த மாத்திரைக்குப் போதையின் பேரானந்தம் என்று சொல்லப்படுகிறது. கூகுளில் தேடினால் அந்த மாத்திரை குறித்த விவரங்கள் வருகின்றன. கோவா மூலம் பெங்களூருக்கு முதலில் இந்த மாத்திரை கடத்தப்படுகிறது. பிறகு, அங்கிருந்து சென்னைக்கு சப்ளை செய்யப்படுகிறது. இந்த மாத்திரைகள், கேளிக்கை விடுதிகள், நட்சத்திர ஹோட்டல்களில் ரகசியமாக சப்ளை செய்யப்படுகிறது. குறிப்பாக, வார விடுமுறை நாள்களில் கேளிக்கை விடுதிகளுக்குச் செல்லும் தம்பதியினரில் சிலரும் இந்த மாத்திரையைப் பயன்படுத்துவதுண்டு. ஆணுக்கோ பெண்ணுக்கோ ஒரு மாத்திரையைக் குளிர்பானங்களில் கலந்து கொடுத்தால் போதும். அதன்போதை 10 மணி முதல் 12 மணி நேரம் வரை இருக்கும். மேலும், இந்த மாத்திரை செக்ஸ் உணர்வைத் தூண்டும். இதனால், இந்த மாத்திரைகள் ரகசியமாகப் படுஜோராக விற்பனை செய்யப்படுகின்றன. விலை அதிகம் என்றாலும் அதுபற்றி யாரும் கவலைப்படுவதில்லை.

சுக்வா, உயரமாக பருமனாகவும் இருக்கிறார். அவரை போலீஸ் நிலையத்துக்கு அழைத்து வந்த போலீஸாரோ சுக்வாவின் தோள்பட்டைக்கு கீழே இருந்துள்ளனர். அதைப்பார்த்த போலீஸ் உயரதிகாரி ஒருவர் இவரையா நீங்கள் பிடித்தீர்கள் என்று ஆச்சர்யத்துடன் கேட்டுள்ளார். அதோடு தனிப்படை போலீஸாரையும் அவர் வெகுவாகப் பாராட்டியுள்ளார்.

Deputy Chief Minister O Pannerselvam, whose ‘Dharma Yudham’ led to the government forming an inquiry commission to probe late Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa’s death, has been summoned by the commission.

The Justice (retd) A Arumughaswamy commission has summoned OPS to appear on December 20. Health minister C Vijayabaskar has been asked to appear on December

18. Senior leader and founding member of AIADMK C Ponnaiyan has also been summoned to appear on the same day.

Jayalalithaa’s personal security officer (PSO) Perumalsamy and current deputy commissioner of police (DCP), Anna Nagar, Dr M Sudhakar IPS, who was part of her security team, have been summoned on December 20 as well.

As part of the cabinet, OPS was present at Apollo hospital during Jayalalithaa’s two-and-a-half month stay from September to December 2016. Multiple witnesses have deposed stating he was present at the hospital and was aware of her health conditions, which is likely to be the basis for the commission’s line of questioning, sources said.

The deposition of then chief secretary Rama Mohana Rao, who stated that a decision to airlift Jayalalithaa to a foreign country for treatment was tabled in the cabinet which didn’t decide anything, will also be key, sources said.

Vijayabaskar and health secretary J Radhakrishnan were briefed regularly by Apollo about Jayalalithaa’s health condition and hence will be important witnesses, sources said.

Ponnaiyan was AIADMK’s spokesperson when Jayalalithaa was in the hospital and briefed the press regarding it. Later, when he joined OPS after his Dharma Yudham, he reportedly said that he had some material to share with the commission, sources said. He also reportedly made comments about Jayalalithaa’s cheek being punctured with three holes, which was visible after her death. Commission sources said Ponnaiyan would be questioned about this.

Raja Senthoor Pandian, counsel for Jayalalithaa’s aide V K Sasikala and OPS’s current political rival, claimed victory for the summons issued to him. “We have been demanding this since March that he be summoned. This was based on our initiative,” he said.
