நாகை மாவட்டத்தில் வேகமாகப் பரவி வரும் காய்ச்சல் நோயால் அரசு மருத்துவமனைகளில் நோயாளிகள் குவிந்து வருகிறார்கள். குறிப்பாக நாகை அரசு தலைமை மருத்துவமனையில் காய்ச்சல் மற்றும் டெங்கு காய்ச்சலுக்குச் சிறப்பு வார்டுகள் அமைக்கப்பட்டு 24 மணி நேரமும் சிகிச்சை அளிக்கப்பட்டு வருகிறது. அப்படி இருந்தும், தினசரி கடும் ஜுரத்துடன் நோயாளிகள் பெருமளவு வருவதால் உள்நோயாளியாகச் சேர்க்க இடமின்றி மருத்துவமனை நிர்வாகம் தவிக்கிறது.


அரசு மருத்துவமனை

கடந்த மாதம் முதல் தொடர்ச்சியாக கனமழை பெய்து வருவதால் நாகையைச் சுற்றியுள்ள நாகூர், திட்டச்சேரி, திருமருகல், கீழ்வேளூர், வேளாங்கண்ணி, அக்கரைப்பேட்டை, கீச்சாங்குப்பம் போன்ற பகுதிகளிலிருந்து ஏராளமான காய்ச்சல் நோயாளிகள் நாகை தலைமை மருத்துவமனைக்குப் படையெடுக்க ஆரம்பித்துவிட்டனர். இதில் சென்னை, திருப்பூர் போன்ற வெளியூரில் பணிபுரிபவர்கள் டெங்கு காய்ச்சலுக்கு ஆளாகி மருத்துவமனைக்கு வந்து சேர்ந்தனர். அவர்களுக்கு, சாதாரண சீசன் காய்ச்சல் நோயாளிகளோடு ஒரே வார்டில் சிகிச்சை தந்தால் டெங்கு பரவிவிடும் என்ற அச்சம் ஏற்பட்டது. எனவே, டெங்கு நோயாளிகளுக்கு மாடியில் தனி வார்டு ஏற்படுத்தப்பட்டு அங்கு சிகிச்சை அளித்தனர். சாதாரண காய்ச்சலுக்கு ஆண், பெண், குழந்தைகள் எனத் தனித்தனியாகப் பிரித்து 80 படுக்கை வசதி கொண்ட வார்டு அமைக்கப்பட்டது.

எனினும் தினந்தோறும் நூற்றுக்கணக்கான காய்ச்சல் நோயாளிகள் வருவதால் அவர்களை உள்நோயாளிகளாகச் சேர்க்க இடவசதியில்லை. வேறெங்கும் செல்ல முடியாத ஏழை நோயாளிகள் தரையில் பாய் விரித்துப் படுத்து சிகிச்சை பெறுகின்ற அவலமும் நடக்கிறது. கடுமையாக ஜுரம் மற்றும் டெங்கு பாதிப்பில் வரும் நோயாளிகள் திருவாரூர் அரசு மருத்துவக்கல்லூரி மருத்துவமனைக்குத் திருப்பி அனுப்பப்படுகின்றனர். ரத்தப்பரிசோதனை செய்து உரிய ஊசி மருந்துகளோடு நிலவேம்பு கசாயமும் காய்ச்சல் நோயாளிகளுக்குத் தரப்படுகிறது. இத்தகைய நோயாளிகள் நாளுக்கு நாள் பெருகுவதால் எப்படி சிகிச்சை அளிப்பது என மருத்துவர்கள் திகைப்பில் இருக்கின்றனர்.

இதுபற்றி நாகை அரசு தலைமை மருத்துவமனை ஆர்.எம்.ஓ. முருகப்பாவிடம் பேசினோம். ``இதற்கென தனி வார்டு அமைத்துள்ளோம். தினமும் சீசன் காய்ச்சலால் சுமார் 200 நோயாளிகள் வருகிறார்கள். அதில் உள்நோயாளிகளாக சுமார் 40 பேர் சேர்க்கப்படுகின்றனர். அவர்களுக்கு சிகிச்சை அளிக்க எம்.டி. லெவலில் டாக்டர்கள் சுழற்சி முறையில் 24 மணி நேரமும் பணியில் உள்ளனர். டெங்கு நோயாளிகள் பூரண குணமடைந்து வீடு திரும்பிவிட்டனர். தற்போது டெங்கு நோயாளி ஒருவர்கூட இல்லை. நோயாளிகளுக்கு உடனுக்குடன் வேண்டிய பரிசோதனைகள் செய்யப்பட்டு தரமான சிகிச்சை அளிக்கப்படுகிறது. ஊசி, மருந்துகள் எல்லாமே போதுமான அளவு இருப்பில் உள்ளன. மிகவும் ஆபத்தான நிலையில் வரும் நோயாளிகள் மட்டுமே திருவாரூர் மெடிக்கல் காலேஜ் ஹாஸ்பிட்டலுக்கு அனுப்பப்படுகின்றனர்" என்றார்

Doctors begin strike, but patient care not affected

Government doctors in the city and the rest of Tamil Nadu began an indefinite strike on Friday demanding an increase in salary. While there were long queues in outpatient sections in many government medical college hospitals in the morning, the situation was near normal by noon. Emergency departments, ICUs and fever wards were fully functional.

While most doctors found new ways to participate in the strike by signing attendance forms and taking turns to stand with the protesting doctors’ group, a five-member group went on an indefinite hunger strike demanding that the chief minister meet them and hear their demands.

In Chennai, more than 300 doctors from different hospitals raised slogans outside the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital. Most doctors said they did not want patients to suffer. “Most departments had professors and post-graduates on the floor throughout the day. Assistant professors took breaks to join the strike,” said an assistant professor in Kilpauk Medical College Hospital.

The highest absence in Chennai was recorded at Stanley Medical College Hospital, where 95 doctors, including three senior doctors, of the total 508 did not sign the attendance register. In Kilpauk Medical College Hospital, barring 65 of the 135 assistant professors, most doctors signed the register and attended duty. At the GH, doctors were on leave without permission. “None of the scheduled surgeries were cancelled in our hospital. There was a delay in waiting period but our OP strength was normal,” said Stanley Medical College dean Dr R Shanthimalar.

Health secretary Beela Rajesh held talks with the striking doctors, but to no avail. “She asked us to return to work as it is the festival season and there were many fever cases. There was no favourable response to our demand,” said a protesting doctor. The strike had no effect on patient care in government hospitals and primary heath care centres in Madurai and the southern districts. Protesting doctors in Government Rajaji Hospital (GRH) in Madurai and Coimbatore Medical College Hospital have been boycotting classes for medical students since Thursday. However, all other patient facilities will be fully operational till October 29. “We have planned for a full 48-hour strike on October

30. Even on that day, we will have teams to respond to emergencies. It is just that one doctor will have to deal with the work load of 10 on those two days,” said Tamil Nadu Government Doctors’ Association president Dr K Senthil. While Tuticorin Medical College Hospital recorded 100% attendance, according to resident medical officer Dr Silas Jeyamani, 550 PG doctors in Trichy participated in the strike, said Service Doctors and Postgraduates Association (SDPGA) treasurer Dr T Aruleeswaran.

The salary for doctors in state and central services is the same when they join duty, but doctors in central government service receive promotions in four, nine, 13 and 20 years, compared to eight, 15, 17 and 20 years in the state government.

NAGAPATTINAM: An Islamic college from Mayiladuthurai has come forward to donate 20 acres of its land for the construction of the medical college in Mayiladuthurai.

An eight-member delegation which included members from Jamia Misbahul Hudha Arabic College in Nidur near Mayiladuthurai has met Nagapattinam district collector Praveen P Nair on Thursday and gave its consent to donate land for a medical college in Mayiladuthurai.

“We wholeheartedly wish to donate our land of 21 acres for the welfare of the public without any expectations for a return of a favour. We took this decision days ago after we realized Mayiladuthurai could get a medical college if it there is enough land available to the government. The government should now fulfil the wish of Mayiladuthurai residents to have a medical college here," said SA Mohamed Sadeeq, the general secretary of Jamia Misbahul Hudha Trust in Needur.

Jamia Misbahul Hudha Arabic College in Needur and its trust has been functioning since 1912, and formally registered under the Indian government in 1947. The barren land they are donating is near a hamlet called Erumbukadu in Mayiladuthurai taluk. It is situated 6.5 kilometres north of Mayiladuthurai.

The delegation that met the collector also included Mayuram Bar Association’s president advocate R Seyon and former MLA of Kuthalam constituency ‘Kuthalam’ P Kalyanam. R Seyon said, “We do not wish that Nagapattinam should be deprived of a medical college. It should have one irrespective of formation of Mayiladuthurai district.”

It is to be noted that Nagapattinam district collector Praveen P Nair had already proposed Orathur in Nagapattinam taluk as the location for the establishment of the medical college in Nagapattinam district. But, it was met with sharp reactions from Mayiladuthurai.

TNIE had earlier reported that Needur near Mayiladuthurai still stands a chance as an alternative.

While speaking to TNIE, Kuthalam’s former MLA ‘Kuthalam’ P Kalayanam said, “The patients in the northern side cannot be left in the mercy of medical college in Nagapattinam, particularly after formation of the new district with Mayiladuthurai as its headquarters. It will duplicate the scenario of Karaikal being in the mercy of Puducherry as both the Union territory districts are geographically apart.”

Govt. doctors to go on strike from October 25
No action taken on their demands

The Federation of Government Doctors’ Association (FOGDA) has decided to press ahead with an indefinite strike from October 25. But emergency services, including fever wards, will not be affected.

The doctors have been demanding proper implementation of the Dynamic Assured Career Progression (DACP) scheme with pay band-4 at the end of 13 years of service, maintenance of doctors’ posts in accordance with the number of patients, 50% service quota in PG admissions and counselling for postgraduate postings. In a letter to the Health Secretary earlier this month, the association noted that the government had agreed to “favourably solve” the demands in six weeks.

“It was disappointing to note that even after the end of six weeks on October 8, the issues were neither solved, nor was there reasonable progression,” it said. To this end, the association has begun to sensitise doctors in various districts.

The Federation of Government Doctors Associations has announced an indefinite strike from October 25, saying its members will boycott all work barring emergencies.

The doctors, demanding an increase in salaries, quota in medical education and appointment of more doctors as promised in August, will remain on duty in emergency wards, labour wards, ICUs and cathlabs for emergencies, said the federation, a group of five associations. Outpatient services, surgeries and inpatient treatment will not be done until all issues are resolved, it said.

Director of medical education Dr A Narayanababu, meanwhile, put out a circular asking all deans and heads of institutions not to grant any leave to doctors from October 21. “Absence … without prior sanction will be treated as unauthorised and allowances on pay will be on the basis of no work no pay,” he said, adding that absence will be considered as break in service.

Dr Narayanababu also asked for a daily report on attendance from deans and heads along with action taken report on email by 9.30am from Sunday.

“We are going ahead with the strike only after giving adequate time to the government. We also want government to appoint more doctors as per MCI norms, give us 50% service quota in medical education and conduct proper counselling before transfer of service post graduates. At least 13,000 of the 18,000 doctors agreed to support us,” said Dr A Ramalingam of the Service Doctors and Post Graduates Association.

In August, after six doctors staged a five-day fast, health minister C Vijayabaskar promised that all demands, including salary hike, would be met in six weeks. Tamil Nadu State AIDS Control Society project director Dr K Senthil Raj was named special officer to look into the demands.

On October 9, federation members met health secretary Beela Rajesh and said there was no progress. “We said we will strike work from October 25 because the government told us it will not be able to make any announcement till October 24 as the moral code of conduct was in force,” a doctor said.

The Tamil Nadu Government Doctors Association will go on a 48-hour strike from October 30, with president Dr K Senthil saying central government doctors were promoted in the 4th, 9th and 13th years. “We get their fourth-year salary in our 15th year and their 13th year salary in our 20th year. We work hard to keep Tamil Nadu's health indices high, but we don’t reap benefits.”

All postgraduate medical students will have to serve in district hospitals for at least three months in order to be eligible to appear in the final exam, a Board of Governors (BoG), vested with the powers of the Medical Council of India (MCI), has proposed.

Currently, students pursuing undergraduate medical courses are attached to primary health centres or urban health centres for three months as part of a compulsory rotating internship.

The BoG has written to the Health Ministry to develop guidelines for implementation of the proposal for postgraduate students in partnership with it and the state governments. It has also sought that this provision comes into force from the next academic session.

“The move is aimed at providing practical experience to future specialists in real-life setting of the country’s public health system. Also, this will help address shortage of specialist doctors in district hospitals of rural and remote areas, and help strengthen services at such hospitals,” a senior government official said.

The note sent to the Union Health Ministry said all postgraduate students shall undertake a rotation in designated district hospitals/health system for a period of three months as a part of the course curriculum.

For postgraduate students of community medicine, the requirement can be posting at primary health centres and field experience in addition to activities at the district hospital.

“Satisfactory completion of this rotation shall be an essential condition before the candidate is allowed to appear in the final examination of the respective postgraduate course. The Ministry of Health is requested to develop guidelines for the scheme in partnership with the state government and BoG in three months,” it read.

CHENNAI: Government doctors announced an indefinite strike from October 25, after the Health department failed to fulfill their demands, including the promised salary hike within six weeks. The decision was announced at a press meet by the members of the Federation of Government Doctors Association (FODGA) on Wednesday.

Dr A Ramalingam, member, FOGDA, said, “We will go on indefinite strike from October 25 as the Health Department failed to fulfill our demands within six weeks. We will boycott out-patient, in-patient services and elective surgeries. However, we will attend to fever cases as there is an ongoing epidemic.”

Health Minister C Vijayabaskar had held a meeting with the representatives of doctors on October 2 to discuss the demands. Commenting about the same, Dr Ramalingam said,” The Minister sought time from us as by-elections are scheduled. So, we will wait till October 24 and commence our strike from the next day.”

In August, while six government doctors began a hunger strike, hundreds of other doctors across the State assembled at the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital campus in their support, to stage a protest to highlight their four-point charter of demands including pay hike.

Minutes after the protest intensified, the health minister called the doctors for talks at the Secretariat and assured them that their demands would be met within six weeks. After marathon talks, the doctors had withdrawn their protest temporarily. The doctors have been demanding pay hike as per G.O. 354, increase of doctors’ strength depending on the patients’ load, and also 50% reservation for government service doctors in PG medical courses.

NAGAPATTINAM: In the rarest of rare cases of medical miracles, a baby girl who was born weighing just 580 gm five months ago has made a remarkable recovery. Shivanya was handed over to her parents in a joyful ceremony Nagapattinam General Hospital on Friday.

S Latha (20) could not believe her eyes when nurses brought the infant to her in the labour ward of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) in the hospital on May 10. The baby was all skin and bones and weighed just 580 gm, believed to be among the lightest babies ever born in India. It was her second child after her first pregnancy was aborted spontaneously a year ago. "Not many gave my daughter a chance of survival. I was scared as I lost my first child before she could be delivered. I had some hope my second child would make it. I never left the hospital. Today, nothing can describe my happiness, that she survived and she will live healthily," said Latha, wife of Selvamani, a fisherman from Samanathampettai, a village near Nagapattinam

The child was not registered in the birth register for a few days as it was considered an expelled foetus delivered within the abortion period of 24 weeks. Doctors called the infant second-lightest child born in Tamil Nadu and third-lightest in India. Medical staff did not give her daughter much of a chance to survive, Latha said. The child was born on May 10 as a premature baby. She was in her mother's womb for under 23 weeks, instead of being delivered after nine months from the womb. Doctors and nurses treated her for the remaining 20 weeks in the hospital. The nurse called the child 'Shivanya' and doctors called her 'Jhansi Rani'. The girl's parents are likely to rename her.

Shivanya's journey to good health has been termed a rare case by the medical community. "The baby did not have the pulmonary surfactant, which is a fluid mixture of lipids and proteins in the alveoli of the lungs and which is required to breathe properly. So, she was given bovine surfactant therapy. Her stomach was decompressed using the nasogastric tube and bovine surfactant, extracted from bovines, was fed through an endo-gastric tube, " said Dr KR Jayakumar, Chief Paediatrician. Nagapattinam General Hospital, who, along with three other paediatricians, attended to the child.

Shivanya was then put on a ventilator for two weeks, and then on a continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) machine for another two weeks. She was then fed with Latha's milk. However, Shivanya did not develop the ability to suckle. "Seven of us were taking care of the child as our own and treated her as special. So, we pumped the mother's milk and gave it to Shivanya using a gastric tube for two weeks. Then, Shivanya was introduced to her mother for breastfeeding eight weeks after she was delivered. Slowly and steadily, she gained weight and now weighs 2.2 kg," said N Maruvarasi, a staff nurse in the hospital

Shivanya was handed over to her parents in an emotional ceremony in the hospital on Friday. The rare feat has brought hope to other mothers they are in good care.

Hospitals which fail to register by Nov 30 will be closed: Health Dept

From June 1, 2018 till date, 32,678 clinical establishments have applied for licence.

CHENNAI: All clinical establishments, including Indian Medicine and Homeopathy clinics, hospitals and laboratories, both private and government, which fail to register under Tamil Nadu Clinical Establishment Act, 2018, by November 30, will be closed down, Directorate of Medical and Rural Health Services officials said.

From June 1, 2018 till date, 32,678 clinical establishments have applied for licence. Of them, licence was given to 2,483 hospitals and clinics. Verification was completed for over 7,000 establishments. In Chennai licence was issued to about 60 hospitals.

The directorate has extended the deadline for applying for licence from May 31 to November 30. “After this, we received around 2,700 applications. Hospitals and clinics which fail to apply or whose applications are rejected will be closed down after November 30,” an official source said.

Five weeks have gone by since the Health department assured hundreds of protesting doctors of a review of their long-pending demand for pay-band 4 at the end of 13 years of service, and its consideration in six weeks.

But the Federation of Government Doctors Association (FOGDA) is unhappy as they say that the department has made little or no headway till now.

On Wednesday, members of FOGDA met Health Minister C. Vijayabaskar and Health Secretary along with department directors to discuss the progress made to address their demands. However, they felt that nothing has been done since the last round of talks on August 27.

In August, six government doctors launched an indefinite fast to draw the attention of the State government to their demands — implementation of Dynamic Assured Career Progression (DACP) with pay band-4 at the end of 13 years of service instead of the present 20 years, modify a government order to post doctors as per patient load and not to reduce existing number of doctors as per MCI norms. The other demands were to conduct counselling for service post graduates postings and 50% service quota in PG and super specialty programmes.

On August 27, the Health department assured the doctors to look into their demands following which the doctors ended their protests. It was agreed to review government order 354 along with the prospective clause for DACP and take it forward for consideration in six weeks.

“There seems to be no progression. We hope that the government will fulfil our demands. On October 9, a day after the six week time-frame comes to an end, our executive committee meeting will be held to decide on indefinite strike if the government does not come up with any announcement,” A. Ramalingam, convenor of FOGDA, said. Health Minister Dr. Vijayabaskar said it was a “routine” meeting with a team of two government doctors’ associations. “We are planning what best we can do for them, and this was discussed,” he said.

புதுடில்லி: நாடு முழுவதிலும் புதிதாக துவங்க இருக்கும் 31 புதிய அரசு மருத்துவ கல்லூரிகளில் தமிழ்நாட்டிற்கு 6 கல்லூரிகள் ஒதுக்கப்பட்டுள்ளன.

இதுகுறித்து சுகாதார மற்றும் குடும்ப நல அமைச்சகம் வெளியிட்டுள்ள அறிக்கையில், டில்லியில் செப்.,26ல் நடந்த தொழில்நுட்ப மதிப்பீட்டுக் குழு கூட்டம் நடந்தது; கூட்டத்தில் நாடு முழுவதும் புதிதாக துவங்க உள்ள 31 மருத்துவ கல்லூரிகளின் பட்டியல் முடிவு செய்யப்பட்டது என தெரிவிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. இதில் தமிழகத்திற்கு மட்டும், 6 கல்லூரிகள் ஒதுக்கப்பட்டுள்ளன.

அதிகபட்சமாக ராஜஸ்தான் மற்றும் ம.பி., மாநிலத்தில் தலா 10 கல்லூரிகள் அமைய உள்ளன. தமிழகத்தில் 6, காஷ்மீரில் 2, உ.பி.,யில் 3 என மொத்தம் 31 புதிய மருத்துவ கல்லூரிகள் திறக்கப்படும் என அறிக்கையில் குறிப்பிடப்பட்டுள்ளது.

தமிழகத்தில் திருப்பூர், நீலகிரி, ராமநாதபுரம், நாமக்கல், திண்டுக்கல் மற்றும் விருதுநகர் மாவட்டங்களில் புதிய மருத்துவ கல்லூரிகள் அமைய உள்ளன.

தற்கொலைக்கு முக்கிய காரண மாக அனைவரது கைகளில் இருக் கும் செல்போன் உள்ளது என்று ராயப்பேட்டை அரசு மருத்துவ மனை ஆர்எம்ஓ மற்றும் மனநல மருத்துவர் ஆனந்த் பிரதாப் தெரிவித்தார்.

தமிழகத்தில் டாக்டர்கள் பணிச் சுமை உள்ளிட்ட காரணங்களால் தற்கொலை செய்துகொள்ளும் நிகழ்வுகள் நடைபெற்று வருகின் றன. இந்நிலையில் டாக்டர்களிடம் தற்கொலை எண்ணத்தைப் போக்க, தற்கொலை தடுப்பு குறித்த விழிப்புணர்வு கருத்தரங்கம் சென்னை ராயப்பேட்டை அரசு மருத்துவமனையில் நேற்று நடை பெற்றது.
மருத்துவமனை கண்காணிப் பாளர் மணி தலைமை தாங்கினார். மருத்துவத் துறை பேராசிரியர் பரந்தாமன் வரவேற்புரை ஆற்றி னார். மருத்துவ இளநிலை, முது நிலை படிக்கும் மாணவ மாணவி யர், பயிற்சி டாக்டர்கள், டாக்டர் கள், பேராசிரியர்கள், உதவி பேரா சிரியர்கள் பலர் கலந்துகொண்டனர்.

தற்கொலை தடுப்பு குறித்து மருத்துவமனை ஆர்எம்ஓ மற்றும் மனநல டாக்டர் ஆனந்த் பிரதாப் பேசியதாவது:

உலக அளவில் தினமும் 1 லட்சம் பேரில் 16 பேர் தற்கொலை செய்து கொள்கின்றனர். ஒரு நிமிடத்துக்கு ஒருவர் தற்கொலை செய்து கொள்கிறார். பொதுவாக பணிச் சுமை, வேலை கிடைக்காதது, காதல் தோல்வி, தேர்வில் தோல்வி, சூழ்நிலை, மனநோய், கடன் தொல்லை, குடும்பத்தினர் மற்றும் உறவினர்களின் பிரச்சினை போன்ற வற்றால் தற்கொலை முடிவுக்குச் செல்கின்றனர்.

முக்கியமாக நடிகர், நடிகை கள், தொழிலதிபர்கள் உள்ளிட்ட பிரபலங்களின் தற்கொலை, மற்ற வர்களை தற்கொலைக்கு தூண்டு கிறது. இதற்கு முக்கிய காரணமாக செல்போன் உள்ளது. இப்போது அனைவரது கையிலும் ஸ்மார்ட் போன் இருக்கிறது.

பிரபலங்களின் தற்கொலை குறித்த செய்தி மற்றும் புகைப் படங்கள் பேஸ்புக், ட்விட்டர், வாட்ஸ்அப் உள்ளிட்ட சமூக ஊடகங்களில் வைரலாக பரவுவதற்கு செல்போன்தான் காரணம். இதன் மூலம் சிறிய பிரச்சினை என்றாலும், அந்த பிரபலமே தற்கொலை செய்து கொள்கிறார். நாம் தற்கொலை செய்து கொண்டால் என்ன என்ற எண்ணம் தோன்றுகிறது.

CHENNAI: A 64-year-old doctor accused of filming women patients was acquitted after one of them filed a compromise affidavit in court. Sivagurunathan, who runs a clinic at Mylapore, was arrested in April last year for sexual harassment based on a complaint from a woman.

According to the complaint, the doctor who had allegedly captured 30 videos of women in his clinic, was caught red-handed by the woman’s husband who visited the clinic after she had chest pain. The family alerted police, who in turn booked the doctor.

Police said the doctor’s mobile phone had over 30 videos at the time of arrest. During trial, the woman filed a compromise plea stating that she found that examination for chest pain is done by closely inspecting the body and her husband had acted out of emotion. The woman turned hostile before court. XVIII Metropolitan Magistrate, Saidapet, acquitted the doctor.

Centre’s permission sought to establish six medical colleges

The Health Department has submitted detailed project reports along with details of lands identified to the Union Health Ministry seeking its nod to establish six medical colleges at Ramanathapuram, Virudhunagar, the Nilgiris, Dindigul, Namakkal and Tirupur.

Health Minister C. Vijayabaskar met Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan and Union Health Secretary Preeti Sudan in New Delhi and submitted the request for establishing the colleges on Tuesday. “We have not only handed over our representations to the Union Health Ministry, but have also identified lands for all six places and have submitted detailed project reports,” he told The Hindu. Tamil Nadu has 23 medical colleges, the latest addition being at Karur.

He said the government sought nod to establish medical colleges under the aspirational districts programme at Ramanathapuram and Virudhunagar and for hill stations at the Nilgiris, apart from Dindigul, Namakkal and Tirupur. He added that the Chief Minister had stressed the need to sanction medical colleges for the aspirational districts.

Health centres

Dr. Vijayabaskar added that they also sought the establishment of primary health centres.

“We are a developed State and have good health indicators. So, we have sought new PHCs,” he said.

Health Secretary Beela Rajesh and Director of Medical Education in-charge R. Narayana Babu were present.

TN submits proposals to start 6 new govt med colleges

Chennai: The Tamil Nadu government has submitted proposals for starting six new government medical colleges in the districts of Ramanathapuram, Virudhunagar, Nilgiris, Dindigul, Tirupur and Namakkal. The proposals were submitted to Union health minister Harsh Vardhan by his state counterpart C Vijaya Baskar in New Delhi on Tuesday.

In August, the cabinet committee on economic affairs had approved setting up of 75 government medical colleges by 2021-22. “These medical colleges are proposed in unserved areas. We have given a list of six districts in Tamil Nadu where there are no government medical colleges,” Vijaya Baskar said.

Now, the state has 23 government medical colleges, including four in Chennai. The state had made a policy decision to increase the number of medical colleges or add seats to existing colleges every year. Proposals for new medical colleges are pending in Perambalur and pressure has been building for new colleges in Tiruvallur and Kancheepuram. “All new colleges now have 150 seats. We are also trying to increase the number of MBBS seats to 250 in all existing medical colleges,” he said

சூரத்தைச் சேர்ந்த சுசித்ரா - க்ருனல் வால்வியின் செல்ல மகள் இப்ஸா. குழந்தை பிறக்கும் போதே மஞ்சள் காமாலையுடன் பிறந்தது. வழக்கமான சிகிச்சைகளால் மஞ்சள் காமாலை குணம் அடையாததால் மருத்துவ பரிசோதனை செய்யப்பட்டதில், அவருக்கு பிலியரி அட்ரெஸியா எனப்படும் குறைபாடு இருந்தது கண்டுபிடிக்கப்பட்டது.

சுசித்ராவின் தங்கை க்ருபாலியின் கல்லீரலின் ஒரு பகுதியை எடுத்து இப்ஸாவுக்கு பொறுத்தியுள்ளனர். பூரண குணம் அடைந்து வீடு திரும்பிய இப்ஸாவுக்கு மஞ்சள் காமாலையும் குணமடைந்து வருவதாகவும், தற்போது அவர் நன்கு விளையாடி மகிழ்ச்சியாக இருப்பதாகவும் இப்ஸாவின் தாய் சுசித்ரா தெரிவித்தார்.

இந்த அறுவை சிகிச்சைக்காக ரூ.16 லட்சம் செலவானதாகவும் அவர் கூறினார்.
