இடார்சி பணிமனை தீ விபத்தால் ரயில்வேக்கு பெரும் இழப்பு

மத்திய பிரதேச மாநிலம், இடார்சியில் உள்ள பணிமனையில் ரயில்வே சிக்னல்களை ஒருங்கிணைக்கும் மையத்தில் (Indian Railways route relay interlocking cabin) கடந்த மாதம் 17-ஆம் தேதி தீ விபத்து ஏற்பட்டது. இதன் காரணமாக நாடு முழுவதும் உள்ள ரயில்கள் வட இந்தியாவுக்குச் செல்ல முடியாமல் ரத்து செய்யப்பட்டன.
தீ விபத்து நடந்து 35 நாள்கள் (ஜூலை 22) வரை இந்தியா முழுவதும் 3200 ரயில்கள் ரத்து செய்யப்பட்டன. நாள்தோறும் சுமார் 50 ஆயிரம் பயணச் சீட்டுகளும் ரத்து செய்யப்பட்டன. தெற்கு ரயில்வேயை பொருத்தவரை 150-க்கும் மேற்பட்ட ரயில்களும், நாள்தோறும் சுமார் 5 ஆயிரம் பயணச் சீட்டுகள் ரத்து செய்யப்பட்டதாக தகவல்கள் தெரிவிக்கின்றன.
மத்திய பிரதேசம் மாநிலம், இடார்சியில் வடக்கு, மத்திய, மேற்கு ரயில்வே மண்டலங்களின் 275 ரயில் நிலையங்களின் சமிக்ஞைகள் ஒருங்கிணைக்கப்பட்டுள்ளன. இங்கு தீ விபத்து ஏற்பட்டதால் இந்த மண்டலங்களுக்குச் செல்லும் அனைத்து ரயில்களும் ரத்து செய்யப்பட்டன. இதன் காரணமாக இந்தியாவின் அனைத்து பகுதிகளில் இருந்தும் வடக்கு, மேற்கு, மத்தியப் பகுதிகளுக்குச் செல்லும் பயணிகள் பெரும் சிரமத்துக்குள்ளாகினர். அதிலும் சென்னை, கோவை, திருநெல்வேலி உள்ளிட்ட பகுதிகளில் ஏராளமான வட இந்திய தொழிலாளர்கள் இருக்கின்றனர். இவர்கள், விடுமுறைக்குக்கூட சொந்த ஊர்களுக்குச் செல்ல முடியவில்லை.
மேலும், நாட்டின் தலைநகரான தில்லிக்குச் செல்லும் அனைத்து ரயில்களும் ரத்து செய்யப்பட்டன. அதேபோல, மேற்கு வங்கம் மாநிலத்தின் கொல்கத்தா, ஹெளரா ஆகிய இடங்களுக்கும் செல்ல முடியாமல் தவித்தனர். இந்திய ரயில்வே துறையே இந்த இடார்சி தீ விபத்தால் ஸ்தம்பித்தது.
தெற்கு ரயில்வேயில் நாள் ஒன்றுக்கு குறைந்தபட்சம் 10 முதல் அதிகபட்சமாக 28 ரயில்கள் ரத்து செய்யப்பட்டன. பயணச் சீட்டு பெறும் கவுன்ட்டர்களில் சில நேரங்களில் புதிய பயணச் சீட்டை பெறுபவர்களைக் காட்டிலும், ஏற்கெனவே முன்பதிவு செய்த பயணச் சீட்டுகளை ரத்து செய்பவர்களின் கூட்டமே அதிகம் காணப்பட்டது. இந்த நிலை செவ்வாய்க்கிழமை வரை தொடர்கிறது.
நிலைமை சீரானது: இடார்சியில் உள்ள சிக்னல்களை ஒருங்கிணைக்கும் மையத்தில் ஏற்பட்ட தீ விபத்துக்கு பிறகு செவ்வாய்க்கிழமை மாலை 50 சதவீதம் சரி செய்யப்பட்டதாக இந்திய ரயில்வே தெரிவித்து.
இடார்சி ரயில் நிலையம் நான்கு முனை ரயில்வே மையம். நாள் ஒன்றுக்கு 145 விரைவு ரயில்களும், 60 சரக்கு ரயில்களும் வந்து போகக் கூடிய முக்கிய மையமாகும். தீ விபத்தத்தால் ஏற்பட்ட சேதத்தைச் சரி செய்து, குறிக்கப்பட்ட நாளுக்கு 48 மணி நேரத்துக்கு முன்பாகவே பழைய நிலைக்கு ரயில்வே ஊழியர்கள் கொண்டு வந்துள்ளனர் என அதிகாரிகள் தெரிவித்தனர். இந்த நிலையைச் சரி செய்ய 600 கிலோ மீட்டருக்கு புதிய கேபிள்கள் அமைக்கப்பட்டன. மேலும் 420 கிலோ மீட்டர் தூரத்துக்கான சமிக்ஞை கேபிள்களும் புதிதாக மாற்றப்பட்டுள்ளன. இதன் காரணமாக ரயில்வேக்கு பெரும் இழப்பு ஏற்பட்டுள்ளதாகவும் கூறப்படுகிறது.
எப்போது சீராகும்?: இடார்சி ரயில்வே பணிமனை செவ்வாய்க்கிழமை முதல் மீண்டும் பழைய நிலையில் செயல்படத் தொடங்கியதாகத் தெரிவிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. எனினும், நிலைமை சீராக குறைந்தபட்சம் இன்னும் 10 நாள்கள் ஆகும் என்று தெற்கு ரயில்வே வட்டாரங்கள் தெரிவிக்கின்றன. அதற்கேற்ப, ஜூலை 23-ஆம் தேதி தில்லி செல்லும் தமிழ்நாடு விரைவு ரயில் ரத்து செய்யப்பட்டுள்ளது. இந்த தீ விபத்தால் இந்திய ரயில்வேக்கு ஏற்பட்ட நஷ்டத்தில் இருந்து மீள இன்னும் ஓராண்டு ஆகும் என்று தெற்கு ரயில்வே வட்டாரங்கள் தெரிவிக்கின்றன.

University spends 'Rs 5 lakh' on 15-min syndicate meeting..TOI

COIMBATORE: Bharathiar University allegedly "spent 5 lakh" to conduct its 15-minute syndicate meeting in Chennai on Tuesday morning at the office of Selvi Apoorva, the principal secretary of higher education. The 19-member syndicate flew to Chennai, apparently checked into a star hotel, and attended the 'short' meeting at the secretariat, said a university source.

It may be pointed out here that a controversy has been brewing over the change of the meeting's venue to Chennai (from Coimbatore) and spending 'a huge sum of money' on flying 19 syndicate members to the state capital and back. The source said, "The discussion happened over a cup of tea and some snacks, and for this we spent on flight tickets, hotel accommodation and local transportation charges."

According to a university source, three agendas were tabled during the 15-minute meeting. Agenda 183 was about selecting the syndicate's nominee for the vice-chancellor selection panel.

The search panel includes three members: one each nominated by the university senate, syndicate and the governor.

Agenda 184 was for the selection of assistant professors for the departments of Tamil, English, mathematics, management and computer applications in the Postgraduate Extension Centre of Bharathiar University in Erode. The agenda also included the selection of associate professor for Mathematics and Management in the same centre.

Agenda 185 pertained to the selection of one associate and one assistant professor for the department of biochemistry at the campus in Coimbatore. For the selection of syndicate's nominee, it was decided that Apoorva will discuss the issue with the state government and inform the university next week.

The source said, "If candidates were to be selected for the post of teachers, it could have been sent as a report to the official, and the reply could be awaited,"

said the source. "There was no need to spend public moneyof 5 lakh

," he added.

Chennai reservoirs run dry

Cattle graze amidst tall weeds and children play on the cracked earth. The only tell-tale sign that the expanse, until a few months back, quenched the thirst of a city are puddles of water.The peak of summer may be over this year, but the city is facing another onslaught-water crisis, the worst in over a decade. The combined storage in the reservoirs that supply water to Chennai -Red Hills, Chembarambakkam, Poondi and Cholavaram -has touched a dead storage of 944 million cubic feet (mcft) against their capacity of over 11,000 mcft.

While the Cholavaram reservoir has been dry since May , the lake in Poondi, which stores river Krishna water from Andhra Pradesh, has only 50mcft against its capacity to hold 3,231mcft. Krishna water was suspended a month ago due to lack of rain.

The dire situation has pushed Chennai Metrowater to pump out dead storage from the reservoirs as the water level has gone below the sluice and can't flow without manual help. The civic body is also increasingly looking to bank on groundwater to sustain supply to the city .

While the city's demand is 1,100 million litres per day (MLD), Metrowater has for the past three years been supplying about 550 MLD, down by 35% of the 831 MLD it routinely supplied. The demand-supply gap is filled by private water tankers, borewells and canned water sold in shops.

Taking into the account the prevailing drinking water deficiency , municipal administration and water supply minister S P Velumani on Monday requested the public to use drinking water judiciously . He also held a discussion with officials on the water storage level in the city reservoirs and the reservoirs of Andhra Pradesh -Srisailam, Somasila and Kandaleru, which augment Chennai's supply through Telugu Ganga project.

Tiger Airways introduces one more flight to Singapore

With Tiger Airways augmenting its service in the Tiruchi – Singapore – Tiruchi sector, passenger and cargo movement to this South East Asian destination is poised to propel further.

The foreign airline launched an additional weekly service from Tiruchi to Singapore from the early hours on Tuesday in addition to its daily flight services being operated in the sector.

With this addition, the number of flight services to Singapore operated by this airline from Tiruchi would increase from 12 to 13 per week. The introduction of another service would mean augmentation of capacity both in respect of passenger and cargo movements to Singapore, say stakeholders. Among other foreign destinations, Singapore is a major market for exporters of the Tiruchi region.

Nearly 70 per cent of the volume of exports from Tiruchi is to Singapore with the commodities primarily shipped being vegetables and flowers in the available belly space in the flights.

Good trend

Going by the trends, airport sources say the cargo uplift would increase by 2.5 tonnes per flight with the introduction of the additional service by the Tiger Airways.

Most goods routed through the Kuala Lumpur-bound Air Asia flights by the exporters from here are directed to Singapore which is done through onward shipment from Malaysia, say the sources.

In addition to Tiger Airways, Air India Express is the other carrier operating daily flights in the Tiruchi – Singapore sector every day. The sources said there was heavy passenger patronage in the Air India Express flight to Singapore from Tiruchi.

The airport witnessed a spike in overseas travellers’ movement in 2014-15 fiscal crossing the 10 lakh mark. Overseas cargo movement also saw an upward trend from the airport during the last fiscal.

Seven evaluators suspended for giving more marks than necessary

Evaluators are known to be stern and stingy with marks. In a rare case, however, some evaluators, who assessed the Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) 2015 examination papers, awarded marks to a student who had written only questions in the answer script, and even for wrong answers. In some instances, the evaluators appeared to have corrected the answers and awarded marks.

The student appeared for the exams as a private candidate of a school in Bengaluru.

A complaint with the Karnataka Secondary Education and Examination Board (KSEEB) led to an enquiry, which showed that the evaluators had erred in awarding marks to the private candidate who had appeared for three papers. The candidate’s marks after re-evaluation changed from 41 marks to 13 in mathematics, 40 marks to three in the science paper and 39 marks to eight in the social science paper.

The board withdrew the result of the candidate.

Commissioner of Public Instruction K.S. Sathyamurthy recommended suspension of seven evaluators, all teachers from Belagavi district. While most evaluators get away by paying a fine, suspension was ordered as it was found to be an exceptional case.

On Monday, Additional Commissioner of Public Instruction (Dharwad) Veeranna G. Thuramari said that one government school teacher has been suspended while the department has written to the various schools (one unaided and five aided) to suspend the rest.
