நடிகை ஸ்ரீதேவியின் திடீர் மரணம், திரையுலகத்தினரை மட்டுமல்லாமல் அவரது ரசிகர்களையும் கண்ணீரில் ஆழ்த்தியிருக்கிறது. அவருடைய மறைவு திரையுலகுக்கு மிகப்பெரும் இழப்பு என்பதில் மாற்றுக்கருத்தில்லை. அதேசமயம், அவருடைய மரணத்தில் எழும் சர்ச்சைகள் விவாதப் பொருளாகியிருக்கின்றன.

துபாயில் திருமண நிகழ்ச்சி ஒன்றில் பங்கேற்கச் சென்ற நடிகை ஸ்ரீதேவி, கடந்த 25-ம் தேதி அதிகாலை மாரடைப்பில் இறந்ததாகத் தகவல் வெளியானது. நடிகை ஸ்ரீதேவியின் பிரேதப் பரிசோதனை சான்றிதழ் மற்றும் தடயவியல் அறிக்கை நேற்று வெளியானது. அதில், ஓட்டல் அறையின் குளியல் தொட்டியில் உள்ள தண்ணீரில் மூழ்கியதால் ஸ்ரீதேவியின் உயிர் பிரிந்ததாகவும் அவரது மரணத்தில் குற்றவியல் நடவடிக்கைகள் எதுவும் இல்லை' எனவும் தகவல்கள் வெளியாகின. இன்று, அவரது உடல் எம்பாமிங் செய்யப்பட்டு, மும்பைக்குக் கொண்டு வரப்பட உள்ளது.

ஸ்ரீதேவியின் மரணம் குறித்து நம்மிடம் பேசிய சூழலியலுக்கான மருத்துவர் சங்கத்தின் புகழேந்தி, " ஸ்ரீதேவியின் மரணத்துக்கும் தமிழக முன்னாள் முதல்வர் ஜெயலலிதாவின் மரணத்துக்கும் பிறகு எழுந்த மர்மங்களிலும் கேள்விகளிலும் சில ஒற்றுமைகள் இருக்கின்றன. ஆனால், இந்த இரு மரணங்களும் அரசு என்னும் அமைப்பால் எப்படிக் கையாளப்பட்டன என்பதில் பெரிய வேற்றுமைகள் இருக்கின்றன. ஸ்ரீதேவி இறந்தபின்னர் அந்த இறப்பை துபாய் அரசு எப்படிக் கையாண்டது?; விசாரணை நடைமுறைகள் எவ்வளவு கடுமையாக இருந்தன என்பதில் தமிழக ஆட்சியாளர்களுக்கான செய்தி ஒன்றும் இருக்கிறது. ஜெயலலிதா 2016-ம் ஆண்டு டிசம்பர் 5-ம் தேதி இரவு 11.30 மணிக்கு இறந்ததாக அறிவிக்கப்பட்டது. அவர் நன்றாக இருப்பதாகச் சொன்ன நேரம் திடீரென மாரடைப்பு வந்ததாகச் சொல்லப்பட்டது. அதன்பிறகு அவருடைய உடல் எம்பாமிங் செய்யப்பட்டது. அதற்கு முன்னரே ஜெயலலிதாவின் உடல் நிலை குறித்து வெளியே சந்தேகங்கள் நிலவி வந்தன. பொதுவாக, மற்ற நாடுகளில் மரணத்தில் சின்ன சந்தேகம் இருந்தால்கூட உடலை எம்பாமிங் செய்வதில்லை. ஏனென்றால், எம்பாமிங் மூலம் உடலில் செலுத்தப்படும் ரசாயன திரவம் இறப்புக்கான காரணம் குறித்து தெரியாமல் செய்துவிடும். ஸ்ரீதேவி விஷயத்தில் எம்பாமிங் நடவடிக்கைகள் தாமதமானதற்கும் இதுதான் காரணம்.



அடுத்ததாக, ஸ்ரீதேவியின் கணவர் போனிகபூர் உள்பட அனைவரிடமும் மீண்டும் மீண்டும் விசாரணை நடத்தப்பட்டு வருகிறது. அறையிலிருந்த சி.சி.டி.வி காட்சிகள் ஆய்வு செய்யப்பட்டன. ஜெயலலிதா விஷயத்தில் சி.சி.டி.வி காட்சிகள் மாயமாகி விட்டன. ஜெயலலிதாவுக்கு வீனஸ் ப்ளட் சாம்பிள் என்னும் ரத்த மாதிரி எடுக்கப்பட்டது. அப்போது அவருடைய ரத்தத்தில் 6.2 என்ற அளவுக்கு பொட்டாசியம் இருந்தது கண்டுபிடிக்கப்பட்டது. பொதுவாக ஒருவரின் ரத்தத்தில் 6 என்ற அளவில் பொட்டாசியம் கலந்திருந்தாலே ஆபத்துதான். ஜெயலலிதாவுக்கு இது முன்னரே இருந்ததா? அப்படியிருந்தது எனில், அதை ஏன் கண்டுகொள்ளாமல் விட்டார்கள் என்ற கேள்வியும் எழுகிறது. மேலும், ஜெயலலிதாவுக்கு எதற்கு எம்பாமிங் செய்தார்கள் என்றே தெரியவில்லை.

ஏனெனில், அவருடைய உடல் 19 மணிநேரம்தான் வெளியே இருந்தது. அதற்கு எம்பாமிங் செய்ய வேண்டிய அவசியமும் இல்லை. இறப்புக்குப்பின் அவருக்கு ரத்த மாதிரியும் எடுக்கப்படவில்லை. சில விஷயங்களை மூடி மறைப்பதற்கான அத்தனை முயற்சிகளும் மேற்கொள்ளப்பட்டுள்ளன. அதனால்தான் மரணம் நிகழ்ந்து ஓராண்டு ஆகியும் மர்மங்கள் தொடர்கின்றன. ஒரு மாநில முதல்வரின் உண்மையான உடல்நிலை குறித்து அம்மாநில மக்களுக்குத் தெரிவிக்கும் பொறுப்பு ஆளும் அரசுக்கு உள்ளது. ஆனால், அது ஜெயலலிதா விஷயத்தில் பின்பற்றப்படவில்லை என்றே நினைக்கத் தோன்றுகிறது. ஸ்ரீதேவி மரணத்தில் துபாய் அரசு மேற்கொண்ட நடவடிக்கைகள் நமக்கெல்லாம் பாடங்கள். எதிர்காலத்தில் இங்கும் இதுபோன்ற நடைமுறைகளைப் பின்பற்றுவது அவசியம்” என்கிறார் புகழேந்தி.

கடந்த 23 வருடங்களாக, தமிழக அரசியலுக்கு ரஜினி வர வேண்டும் என்று தூண்டில் போட்டுக்கொண்டிருப்பவர் ஏ.சி சண்முகம். எம்.ஜி.ஆரின் பக்தரான இவர், எம்.பி, எம்.எல்.ஏ - ஆக இருந்தவர். தற்போது, டாக்டர். எம்.ஜி.ஆர். கல்வி மற்றும் ஆராய்ச்சி நிறுவனத்தின் நிறுவனர். எம்.ஜி.ஆர். மறைவுக்குப் பிறகு, அ.தி.மு.கட்சியில் ஏற்பட்ட பிரச்னைகளின் போது, ஆர்.எம். வீரப்பன் அணியில் இருந்தவர் ஏ.சி.எஸ். தமிழக அரசியலில் ரஜினிக்குத் திருப்புமுனையாக அமைந்த பாட்ஷா படத்தின் தயாரிப்பாளர் ஆர்.ம்.வீ. அந்த வகையில், ஆர்.எம்.வீ. அணியில் இருந்த ஏ.சி சண்முகத்துடன் ரஜினி நெருக்கம் அதிகமானது. 1991-96 காலகட்டத்தில் காங்கிரஸ் கட்சி சார்பாக டெல்லியில் பிரதமராக இருந்தவர் நரசிம்மராவ். அதே காலகட்டத்தில், தமிழகத்தில் முதல்வராக இருந்தவர் ஜெயலலிதா. ஆட்சி அலங்கோலங்களுக்கு எதிராகக் குரல்கொடுத்த ரஜினி டெல்லிக்குப்போய் பிரதமர் நரசிம்மராவை இரண்டு முறை சந்தித்தார். அப்போது அவருடன் இருந்தவர்களில் முக்கியமானவர் ஏ.சி.சண்முகம். கடவுள் வழி சொல்லட்டும் என்று சாக்குப்போக்கு சொல்லி வந்த ரஜினி, முழுமையாக அரசியலில் குதித்துவிட்டார். சந்தோஷமான ஏ.சி சண்முகம், உடனே போய் ரஜினியைச் சந்தித்து வாழ்த்து சொன்னார். எம்.ஜி.ஆர். பல்கலைக்கழக வளாகத்தில் மார்ச் 5-ம் தேதியன்று நூற்றாண்டு விழா மற்றும் எம்.ஜி.ஆர். வெங்கலச் சிலை திறப்பு விழா நிகழ்ச்சிகளில் கலந்துகொள்ள அழைப்பு விடுத்தார். அரசியல் ரீதியாக நீங்கள் காலடி எடுத்து வைக்கும் முதல் அரசியல் மேடை என்னுடைய விழாவாக இருக்க வேண்டும் என்று ஏ.சி.சண்முகம் வேண்டுகோள் வைக்க.. ஓ.கே. நான் வருகிறேன் என்று சொல்லிவிட்டார்.

இதுபற்றி ஏ.சி. சண்முகத்திடம் பேசியபோது, " சென்னை அடுத்த வேலப்பன் சாவடி - பூந்தமல்லி நெடுஞ்சாலையில் உள்ள ஏ.சி.எஸ். மருத்துவக் கல்லூரியில் விழா ஏற்பாடுகள் தடபுடலாக நடக்கின்றன. விழாவில் மொரீஷியஸ் நாட்டு குடியரசு துணைத் தலைவர் பரமசிவம்பிள்ளை வையாபுரி கலந்துகொண்டு நூற்றாண்டு விழா கட்டடத்தை திறந்துவைக்கப்போகிறார். இலங்கை கல்வி அமைச்சர் வி.எஸ். ராதாகிருஷ்ணன், எம்.ஜி.ஆர். புகைப்பட கண்காட்சியைத் திறந்துவைக்கப்போகிறார். ரஜினி, எம்.ஜி.ஆரின் வெங்கலச் சிலையைத் திறந்துவைக்கப் போகிறார். அவரின் கையில், எம்.ஜி.ஆர். முதல்வராக இருந்தபோது, அவரது அமைச்சரவையில் இடம்பெற்றவர்கள்...அப்போது பணியாற்றிய ஐ.ஏ.எஸ். அதிகாரிகள், எம்.ஜி.ஆருடன் நடத்த நடிகர், நடிகைகள், எம்.ஜி.ஆரின் உறவினர்கள்...என்று முக்கியமானவர்களுக்கு எம்.ஜி.ஆர். விருதுகளை வழங்கப்போகிறார். அரசியல் வானில் ஜொலிக்கப்போகும் ரஜினிக்கு இந்த விழா ஒரு மகுடமாக இருக்கப்போகிறது " என்றார்.




இதே நேரத்தில், ரஜினி மக்கள் மன்றத்தின் வட மாவட்ட நிர்வாகிகளை ராகவேந்திரா மண்டபத்துக்கு வரச் சொல்லி, ஆலோசனை கூட்டம் நடந்தது. ரஜினிக்குச் சிறப்பான வரவேற்பு தருவது குறித்து அப்போது முக்கிய முடிவுகள் எடுக்கப்பட்டிருக்கிறது.

விழாவில், எம்.ஜி.ஆர். பற்றிய தனது பசுமையான நினைவுகளை மனம்திறந்து பேசவிருக்கிறார் ரஜினி. அதேநேரம், தற்போதைய அ.தி.மு.க ஆட்சியாளர்களுக்கு எதிராகக் குரல்கொடுக்கப்போகிறார் என்றும் மன்ற நிர்வாகிகள் எதிர்பார்க்கிறார்கள். " தற்போது ஆட்சியில் இருக்கும் அ.தி.மு.க-வின் ஊழல்கள் பற்றியெல்லாம் எங்களிடம் நிறைய கேட்டு தெரிந்துகொண்டார். மக்களுக்குப் பயனளிக்கும் திட்டங்களை நிறைவேற்றாமல், விளம்பரத்தை மையமாக வைத்து விழாக்களை நடத்தும் எடப்பாடி ஆட்சியை கொஞ்ச காலமாக எங்கள் தலைவர் கவனித்து வருகிறார். நடக்கிற ஊழல் கூத்துகளைக் கேட்டு, டென்ஷன் ஆகிவிட்டார். கடுங்கோபத்தில் இருக்கும் எங்கள் தலைவர், எடப்பாடி அரசை கடுமையாக விமர்சனம் செய்யப்போகும் மேடையாக எம்.ஜி.ஆர். சிலை திறப்பு விழா அமையப்போகிறது. பொறுத்திருந்து பாருங்கள் " என்கிறார்கள்.

மாவட்ட வாரியாக ரஜினி மக்கள் மன்ற நிர்வாகிகள் நியமனம் மின்னல்வேகத்தில் நடந்துவருகிறது. இந்தச் சூழ்நிலையில், ரஜினி மேடை ஏறப்போகும் முதல் களம் என்பதால், தமிழகம் முழுவதுமிருந்து அவரது மன்ற நிர்வாகிகள் சென்னைக்குப் படையெடுக்கப்போகிறார்கள்.

No separate pass criteria for Class X CBSE students

New Delhi: The Class X CBSE board exam candidates will be exempted from the mandatory separate pass criteria in the subjects having component of 20 marks internal assessment and board examination of 80 marks. The Central Board of Secondary Education on Tuesday notified this onetime measure for the present batch of Class X as they are coming from a different assessment background.

The present batch of Class X students will sit for the exam on March 5, which will be the first mandatory public exam after eight years. The CBSE introduced the Comprehensive and Continuous Evaluation (CCE) scheme and along with that introduced the optional board exam. Students who continued with CBSE at senior secondary level and in the same school were made to take the school-based exam instead of the boards. The CCE system was revoked in 2017 by the board and Class X board was mandatory.

According to the notification issued by Anita Karwal, chairperson, CBSE, the examination committee in its meeting recently decided to extend the one-time exemption to Class X students as they will be the first batch after the board exam made a comeback.

As per the “passing criteria” for the Class X students of the 2017-18 batch, “they need to secure overall 33% (both the internal assessment and that board exam marks taken together) in the subject to be able to pass the subject.”

The same passing criteria will also apply in the additional subjects, provided the additional subjects comprises of internal assessment of 20 marks and board examination of 80 marks.

Moreover, this rule about passing in the subjects will also apply for students with subjects under the National Skills Qualifications Framework scheme for the five major subjects (two languages, science, mathematics and social science. The provision of replacement of subjects extended to the NSQF students “for the failed subjects (out of the three subjects – science, mathematics and social science) by the vocational subject passed by the candidate under NSQF) would continue to apply.”

Ooty residents still gush over the thrilling climax scene in Sridevi’s ‘Moondram Pirai’

Udhagamandalam: The Nilgiris, particularly Ooty, has been the locale for many of late star Sridevi’s films. Many scenes in Tamil films featuring the then ‘queen of southern movies’ along with Kamal Haasan and Rajnikanth such as ‘Vazhve Mayam’, ‘Moondram Pirai’, ‘Thanikattu Raja’ and ‘Naan Adimai Illai’ were shot in and around Ooty. However, one particular shot in the hills that deeply moved film buffs is from the critically acclaimed ‘Moondram Pirai’, written and directed by Balu Mahendra, who was also thecinematographer for the film.

The film featured Kamal Haasan and Sridevi in lead roles with Silk Smitha, Poornam Vishwanathan and Y G Mahendra playing supporting roles. Most of the scenes were shot near Ooty. The shooting of the intense climax of the film at the Ketti railway station is an unforgettable experience for the locals who watched it.

Kakkamallan, a gardener in the Ooty railway station and resident of Ullathi village near Ketti, recalled, “I was among the people who witnessed that poignant scene. The scene always remains in my heart. Sridevi, who had no dialogue in that particular scene, really proved her histrionic skills.”

It took nearly three days for Balu Mahendra to shoot that particular scene. “After the movie was released in 1982, for several years the Ketti station was known as ‘Moondram Pirai station’ among tourists. Even today, many tourists connect this station with the movie,” said Kakkamallan.

Mathan, a resident of Ketti village who also witnessed the shooting, said Indian cinema lost a wonderful actor with the death of Sridevi. “The railway station scene tells the whole story of the movie. I still remember how Sridevi carried herself so well during the shoot. Millions of her fans still gush about her role in Moondram Pirai.”

The lilting lullaby ‘Kanne Kalaimane’ in the romantic drama was the last song penned by Kannadasan. Composed by Ilaiyaraaja, the evergreen melody was recorded before the lyricist’s death in 1981.

Though Balu Mahendra shot many of his movies in Ooty and surrounding areas, this movie apparently was very close to his heart. In an interview, he had said it was based on his brief relationship with actress Shoba.

The movie fetched Kamal a National Film Award for best actor and Balu Mahendra the award for best cinematography. It bagged five state film awards, including one for Sridevi for best actress.

Silk Smitha, Poornam Viswanathan and Balu Mahendra are no more today.

Chennai: Patients visiting at least three government hospitals in the state, including the Institute of Child Health (ICH) in Egmore, will now receive an alert on their phones when scan reports are ready along with a copy of the report sent to their email accounts.

In an attempt to reduce waiting time for patients, referrals to bigger hospitals and fatalities, the state health department has rolled out teleradiology services on a pilot basis from the tertiary care hospital along with two district hospitals headquartered at Pollachi and Kallakuruchi. “The aim is to help doctors give reports as early as possible. We will soon be expanding the project to other districts,” said Tamil Nadu Medical Services Corporation managing director P Umanath.

Radiologists will be given laptops with an integrated SIM and 4G data. Duty doctors or technicians will flag emergencies and radiologists from across the state will be able to access the scans on the cloud for interpretation. If doctors attached to scan centres are not available, doctors from other centres interpreting reports will be paid a consultation fee either through the insurance or from the state’s kitty. Once all urgent scan reports are cleared, elective scans will be cleared by doctors within 24 hours.

An analysis by the health department showed the problem wasn’t a shortage of radiologists, but poor distribution. With more than 50 scan centres, the state on an average does more than 2,500 scans a day. However, the number of scans done post 3pm, when duty hours for government doctors end, falls between 0% and 30%. For instance, the performance in Pollachi district hospital had a large scope for improvement, the health department felt. “We are planning to add more machines and upgrade MRIs, CTs and other high-end scans this year but we won’t be employing more radiologists,” said Umanath.

Certain parts of the state, especially cities like Chennai and Coimbatore, have lots of doctors but many rural areas experience a shortage, particularly of specialists. Officials say that it may not be easy for them to alter this distribution due to various factors including the comforts of living in cities. The government also retains specialists in cities, where there are medical college hospitals, so they can get permission from the Medical Council of India for PG seats.

Currently, in many hospitals including ICH, doctors see images of urgent scans on their phones when duty doctors alert them. “But these lines are not secure and images aren’t always clear. On many occasions, we may want duty doctors to see some things and tell us,” said ICH chief radiologist Dr Natarajan. The hospital has five radiologists working from 8am to 1.30pm. The radiologists, on an average, see up to 40 CT scans and 15 MRIs.

The corporation, which is in charge of purchase and maintenance of medical equipment for state hospitals, has given the tender for setting up teleradiology services in all government hospitals to Bengaluru-based Mediff. The corporation is hoping that its low-cost diagnostic services will also benefit patients at private hospitals. The government charges ₹500 for an MRI and ₹3,000 for a CT scan.

High court adjourns BU VC’s bail plea

Chennai: The Madras high court has adjourned the hearing of a bail application moved by Bharathiyar University vice-chancellor A Ganapathy, who was recently arrested by the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) for accepting a bribe of Rs 30 lakh from an assistant professor for regularising his post.

According to the petitioner, he was appointed to the post due to his “spotless and meritorious” service record.

However, now at the behest of certain disgruntled elements, a false case had been foisted against him, he said.

Further, pointing out that the complainant was appointed as a probationer only during his tenure as vice-chancellor, the petitioner said that there was no allegation against him of having demanded any money for the appointment.

When such was the case, the alleged demand for regularisation in service was baseless, Ganapathy added.

Ganapathy’s previous two attempts to get a bail from the Coimbatore district court were turned down, prompting him to approach the Madras high court.

Trauma ward docs get bonus marks as those in hilly PHCs

Chennai: A duty doctor working in the accident or emergency ward of the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital in Chennai will enjoy the same benefits as a doctor posted at the primary health centre in remote Javadhu Hills during postgraduate admission, as per the proposed recommendations of the six-member committee formed by the state government to classify difficult and rural areas of the state-run hospitals and clinic.

Breaking away from the convention, the committee has recommended names of some departments even in city-based medical college hospitals and urban district hospitals, but has pushed for removal of some primary health centres in backward and rural districts. “The division this time is not about urban or remote, it’s about areas that are difficult or remote,” said Tamil Nadu Medical Services Corporation chairman P Umanath, who chaired the committee.

The committee has submitted a 15-page report to refine or identify PHCs and hospitals located in remote and difficult areas for awarding incentive marks to service candidates for admission to postgraduate degree or diploma courses for medical counselling, scheduled to begin in May.

It has prescribed two groups that will receive benefits. The category A will receive 100% of the maximum permissible incentive marks – 10% of marks over and above their NEET score for every year, not exceeding 30%. The second group, category B, will receive 40% of the maximum permissible incentive marks – 4% of marks over and above their NEET score for every year, not exceeding 30%.

The committee members said they had held elaborate discussions on the issue for two months before drawing up the guidelines using “hybrid” methods.

For instance, institutions in all hilly areas but not all institutions in the 16 backward districts will get the benefit. “But not all institutions in this district list will get the benefit. These institutions should be in difficult areas, having low density of doctors, high vacancies and poor health indicators, but not in municipal or corporation limits,” said director of medical education Dr Edwin Joe.

However, high pressure work units like CEmONC centres, trauma or accident or emergency care, or neonatal units, irrespective will be offered maximum incentive.

The committee has also recommended that the government should fight to retain 50% in-service quota for its doctors. “Unless it is retained, a large number of government doctors’ benefits will be poor,” said Doctors for Social Equality general secretary Dr G R Ravindranath. Tamil Nadu Government Doctors’ Association has urged the government to add 20 more institutions into the “difficult” areas list. “We are drawing up lists of some remote PHCs and hospitals where doctor have to walk several kilometres, or vacancies are high,” said Tamil Nadu Government Doctors’ Association president Dr K Senthil.

This year, the state will add 101 postgraduate medical seats across 14 government medical colleges, taking the total PG seats to 1,585. It will give 50% of the seats to all India quota. In 2017, the postgraduate admission process was entangled in a legal battle at the Madras high court. Admissions had to be cancelled and the process was stalled twice. The state government had given 50% of the seats to the all-India quota and reserved half of the remaining seats to doctors working with the government.

The committee report should be notified by the government before it can be adopted as rule for the upcoming counselling.
