'பொங்கல் பரிசு வேண்டாம்' விட்டுக்கொடுப்பவர்களை கவுரவிக்க திட்டம்

பொங்கல் பரிசில் உள்ள, 1,000 ரூபாய் ரொக்கத்தை, தமிழக அரசுக்கு விட்டு கொடுக்கும், ரேஷன் கார்டுதாரர்களை கவுரவிக்க, உணவு துறை முடிவு செய்துள்ளது.

சென்னையில், 2015ல் ஏற்பட்ட பெரு வெள்ளத்திற்கு பின், இலவச திட்டங்களுக்கு பதில், ஏரிகள் துார்வாருதல், சுத்தமான குடிநீர் உள்ளிட்ட வளர்ச்சி திட்டங்களை, தமிழக அரசிடம், மக்கள் எதிர்பார்க்கின்றனர். இதனால், அரிசி கார்டுகள் வைத்திருக்கும்சிலர், இலவச அரிசி, பொங்கல் பரிசு, இலவச வேட்டி சேலைகளை வாங்குவதில்லை.ஆனால், ரேஷன் ஊழியர்களும், அதிகாரிகளும், அவர்களுக்கு வழங்கியது போல பதிவு செய்து, தாங்கள் எடுத்து கொள்கின்றனர். தமிழக அரசு, நடப்பாண்டு பொங்கலுக்கு, ரேஷன் கடைகளில், அரிசி கார்டுதாரர்களுக்கு, பச்சரிசி, சர்க்கரை, முந்திரி, திராட்சை, ஏலம், கரும்பு, 1,000 ரூபாய் ரொக்கம் அடங்கிய, பரிசு தொகுப்பை வழங்கியது. இதனால், அரசுக்கு, 2,000 கோடி ரூபாய் செலவானது. பொங்கல் பரிசை வாங்க விரும்பாதவர்கள், அதை, அரசுக்கு விட்டு கொடுக்கும் வசதியை, பொது வினியோக திட்ட இணைய தளத்தில், உணவுத்துறை ஏற்படுத்தியது. ரேஷனில், பரிசு தொகுப்பு வினியோகம் துவங்கிய பின், தாமதமாக, விட்டு கொடுக்கும் வசதி துவங்கப்பட்டது. ரேஷன் கார்டு ரத்தாகாதுஇதனால், 'பரிசு வாங்கவில்லை எனில், ரேஷன் கார்டு ரத்தாகி விடும்' என்ற, வதந்தியை நம்பி, சிலர், வீட்டு வேலையாட்களிடம் கார்டுகளைகொடுத்து, பரிசு தொகுப்பை வாங்க கூறினர்; 30 ஆயிரம் பேர் மட்டும் பரிசுத் தொகுப்பை வாங்காமல், அரசுக்கு விட்டுக் கொடுத்தனர்.

இந்நிலையில், வரும் பொங்கலுக்கும், 1,000 ரூபாய் ரொக்கம் மற்றும் பொங்கல் பொருட்கள் அடங்கிய பரிசு தொகுப்பை, அரசு அறிவித்துள்ளது. இவை, உள்ளாட்சி தேர்தல் முடிந்ததும், ஜனவரி, 5ம் தேதி முதல் வினியோகம் செய்யப்பட உள்ளன.

Rabeeha Abdurehim said she was asked to leave the hall before the President arrived.

Rabeeha Abdurehim, a student who completed her masters in Mass Communication with a gold medal from Pondicherry University, has alleged that she was prevented from attending the convocation ceremony in which President Ram Nath Kovind took part on Monday.

Ms. Abdurehim, who hails from Kozhikode in Kerala, told reporters after the ceremony that she was asked to leave the hall before the President arrived. “As I was on the radar of the authorities (for participation in protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act), I was asked to leave the hall and was allowed only after the President left. Later, I received my degree and refused to accept the gold medal,” she said.

She said her decision to reject the gold medal was also to express her solidarity with the students who faced “police brutality” while staging protests against the CAA.

‘Take a strong stand’

“Educated youth should take a strong stand against the legislation and the fascist regime,” she said.

Ms. Abdurehim did her masters in the School of Media and Communication of Pondicherry University. Karthika B. Kurup, another gold medallist from the same school, had announced her decision to boycott the convocation in support of the agitation against the CAA.

S.I. Humayun, officer-in-charge, Pondicherry University, said the student’s decision not to receive the medal from the President was her “personal decision”, and the University had no comment to make.

The official also denied having any knowledge of what actually led to the student getting ousted as she had been duly registered for the event and had taken her seat.

“All we know is that there was commotion in the hall and she was asked to leave. She was allowed back after the departure of the President,” the official said.

The official also denied the allegation that she was asked to leave for wearing a hijab, as was being claimed on social media. “This is borne out by the student’s Facebook post, in which she herself has denied it,” the official added.

In her Facebook post, Ms. Abdurehim said that while she had often dreamt about the moment she would receive a gold medal and a master's certificate, “never did I imagine it would end up being in a way in which I could send a strong peaceful message across India.”

With several thousand workers of opposition parties descending on Egmore to participate in a rally against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), it was a smorgasbord of emotions — rage, desperation and hope — that was on display.

While a section of protesters belonging to Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) sought to add fervour to the show by beating drums, others chose to walk silently from the CMDA building to Rajarathinam stadium in Egmore.

Four drones of the city police kept a watch on the rally route, capturing every minute detail. More than 100 police personnel in plain clothes video-recorded the procession from highrise buildings.

Cadres of the DMK, CPM, Congress, MDMK, VCK and IUML started turning up around 9 am. They waited for almost an hour for their leaders to arrive. DMK president M K Stalin, former Union minister P Chidambaram, DMK youth wing chief Udayanidhi Stalin, MP Kanimozhi, DMK treasurer S Duraimurugan and principal secretary T R Baalu reached the starting point around 10 am.

A contingent of anti-riot police in full gear and vehicles fitted with water cannons were stationed at vantage points to pre-empt any violence during the rally. Senior police officials could be seen keeping a watch on the procession.

DMK youth wing cadres regulated the crowd to prevent any run-in with police personnel. They kept telling protesters to maintain discipline along the route.

A few effigies kept by protesters along the route were removed by police personnel. Many DMK district heads brought in their own photographers to record the attendance from their respective regions. They raised slogans attacking the Centre and the state government. However, the turnout of youth and women was below par.

While there were many who seemed well informed about CAA, there were many who had no idea about the issue. Many were confused between CAA and NRC. But they were united in blaming the BJP for disturbing the secular fabric of the country.

“This Act isn’t good for the nation. It’s not just about Muslims, in the days to come this will create major problems for the entire nation,” said Veeramani N, a 68-yearold protester from Perambur.

“This Act divides people on the basis of religion. This is not the end. It is only the beginning,” said his friend Vanadhi L from Royapuram.

Air fares spike on Christmas eve
 
Travel For New Year, Pongal Holidays Also Pricey

Air fares have increased, especially to small towns, on Christmas, New Year and Pongal as trains are fully booked. The fares from Chennai to Thiruvananthapuram, Madurai and Bengaluru are edging closer to ₹10,000 for travel on Christmas eve and are in the range of ₹6,000 to 8,000 for travel on December 30 for the New Year.

The starting fare is ₹10,000 for flights to Madurai, Kochi, Hubli and Thiruvananthapuram, while it is ₹16,000 to Tuticorin for travel on Tuesday. Similarly, the fare is in the range of ₹4,000–₹8,000 to Tuticorin, Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram, while it’s ₹3,000–₹6,000 to Madurai, ₹3,400–₹5,000 to Bengaluru and ₹2,300–₹4,300 to Coimbatore on December 30, when most people travel for the New Year. Though Pongal is more than 20 days away, fares to Madurai have touched ₹5,500 and to Tuticorin it’s ₹4,700.

Air travel continues to be unaffordable on festival eve due to high demand and fewer flights though the directorate general of civil aviation has issued an instruction to airlines that fares should not cross ₹10,000 on domestic routes.

This has affected lastminute travellers. The fares are high on short routes to small towns like Hubli and Tuticorin which see high demand only during festivals and holidays. An airline official said schedules are designed in such a way to capture maximum patronage. But for small towns, the load is low on regular days.

Airlines have also cut frequency to Thiruvananthapuram because of fewer passengers, the official added.

Ticket cost on some special trains with dynamic pricing has touched ₹2,000 for travel to Kerala for Christmas. Railways have been introducing special trains but since some services are not operated on convenient dates, people try to opt for flights.

Basheer Ahmed of Metro Travels said air fare is high during festivals. “It is higher than it was last year on domestic and international routes. The fares are also high as people from abroad fly domestic from gateway airports like Chennai,” he said. As a majority of people travel during these holidays, airlines are mulling discount sales to prevent a slump in traffic after January 15. IndiGo on Monday launched sale of ₹899 tickets for travel from January 15.

Southern Railway eases bulk booking rules

Southern Railway has announced that for facilitating ease of booking for people travelling in groups for marriages, sports tournaments and school/college educational tours/field trips, norms imposed on bulk booking have been relaxed.

Bulk booking has been permitted without any restriction in all classes of accommodation and in all trains, including mail/express, Rajdhani, Shatabdi, Duronto, Garib Rath and special trains operated during festive/peak seasons. The level of competency and ceiling/limit of berths/seats for permitting bulk reservation has been withdrawn.

The chief reservation supervisor or station master has been authorised to permit bulk booking of tickets in all major locations.

விரைவு ரயில்களில் பயணம் செய்ய குழு டிக்கெட் முன்பதிவு செய்வதற்கான கட்டுப்பாடுகளை தளர்த்தி புதிய உத்தரவு வெளியிட்டுள்ளது தெற்கு ரயில்வே.

ரயில்களின் டிக்கெட் முன்பதிவு செய்ய வசதியாக தெற்கு ரயில்வேக்கு உட்பட்ட 6 கோட்டங்களில் 200-க்கும் மேற்பட்ட டிக்கெட் முன்பதிவு மையங்கள் உள்ளன. இணையதள வசதியுடன் கூடிய செல்போன் மக்களிடம் அதிகரித்துள்ள நிலையிலும், இன்னும் 40 சதவீதத்துக்கும் மேற்பட்டோர் முன்பதிவு மையங்களை நம்பியே உள்ளனர்.

குறிப்பாக அதிக எண்ணிக்கையிலான பயணிகள் குழுவாக பயணம் செய்ய முன்பதிவு மையங்களில் மட்டுமே டிக்கெட் எடுக்க முடியும். இந்த ‘குழு டிக்கெட்’ எடுக்க இருந்த பல்வேறு நிபந்தனைகளை தளர்த்தி தற்போது புதிய உத்தரவை தெற்கு ரயில்வே பிறப்பித்துள்ளது.

இதுதொடர்பாக தெற்கு ரயில்வே அதிகாரிகள் கூறியதாவது: குழு டிக்கெட்டுக்கான பல்வேறு கட்டுபாடுகளை படிப்படியாக நீக்கி வருகிறோம். முன்பு, 30 டிக்கெட் வரை மட்டுமே பயணம் செய்ய முன்பதிவு மைய கண்காணிப்பாளர் அனுமதி வழங்க முடியும். அதற்கு மேல் என்றால் ரயில்வே கோட்ட மேலாளர்களிடம் அனுமதி வேண்டும். இதேபோல், 3-ல் ஒரு மடங்கு டிக்கெட்டை மட்டுமே குழுவாக டிக்கெட்களுக்கு ஒதுக்கீடு செய்ய வேண்டும். இதுபோன்ற நிபந்தனைகளை தளர்த்தி தெற்கு ரயில்வே புதிய உத்தரவை பிறப்பித்துள்ளது.


குழுவாக பயணம் செய்ய விரும்புவோர் காலை 9 மணிக்குப் பிறகு முன்பதிவு செய்யலாம். எத்தனை பேர் வேண்டுமென்றாலும் ஒரே நேரத்தில் குழு டிக்கெட் எடுக்கலாம். மேலும், குழுவாக பயணம் செய்வதற்கான ஏதாவது ஒன்றை ஆதாரமாக காண்பித்தால் போதுமானது. உறுதியான டிக்கெட் மட்டுமின்றி காத்திருப்பு பட்டியல், ஆர்ஏசி போன்ற டிக்கெட்களை எடுக்கவும் அனுமதிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. இதன்மூலம் ஏராளமான பயணிகள் பயன்பெற முடியும். இவ்வாறு அவர்கள் கூறினர்.

முறைகேடுக்கு வாய்ப்பு

இதுதொடர்பாக டிஆர்இயு துணைப் பொதுச்செயலாளர் மனோகரன் கூறும்போது, ‘‘குழு டிக்கெட் முன்பதிவில் செய்யப்பட்டுள்ள மாற்றங்களால் முறைகேடுகள் நடக்க வாய்ப்புள்ளது. இந்த புதிய அறிவிப்பு மூலம் பயணிகள் அவசர காலத்தில் டிக்கெட் கிடைப்பதில் தட்டுபாடு ஏற்படும் அபாயம் உள்ளது. மேலும், இடைத்தரகர்கள் அதிக அளவில் டிக்கெட் முன்பதிவு செய்து கொண்டு, பயணிகளுக்கு கூடுதலாக கட்டணத்துக்கு விற்கும் நிலை ஏற்படலாம். எனவே, குழு டிக்கெட்களை உண்மையான பயணிகள் தான் பயன்பெறுகிறார்கள் என்பது குறித்து உறுதிசெய்ய தெற்கு ரயில்வே புதிய நடவடிக்கையை கையாள வேண்டும்’’ என்றார்.

10 year-old allegedly raped by father’s friends in Erode

ERODE: An angry mob vandalised the house of a man suspected of having raped a 10-year-old girl at Gobichettipalayam. While one person was arrested, police are on the lookout for two more, including the child’s father. Sources said that while it was not clear whether the father had sexually abused the girl, the other two had allegedly raped the girl over several months with the man’s approval.

Sources claimed that the child’s father was an alcoholic separated from his wife. He had kept the custody of their two children -- the 10-year-old victim and her 5-year-old brother -- after the estrangement.

The incident came to light when a teacher at the child’s school noticed her in pain. When enquired, the girl revealed to her teacher the horror story. The teacher contacted a relative of the child and alerted them about the incident. Later, the girl was admitted to government Gobichettipalayam hospital, where the doctors confirmed that the girl was a victim of multiple sexual assaults. Based on the findings, the relatives lodged a complaint with the All-Women Police Station.

A case was registered under the POCSO Act, and one of the suspects was arrested. As the news spread, villagers protested demanding the arrest of the girl’s father and his friend, who have since absconded. An angry mob barged into one of the suspects’ house and vandalised his property. Police held talks with the protestors, who dispersed only after the officials assured swift action.Call child helpline 1098 to report on children in distress.

With father’s approval

The incident came to light when the girl’s teacher noticed her in pain and questioned her. The girl narrated her story on how the men raped her over months with her father’s permission.
