Chennai: Newly married couple ends life after man’s mom dies

Chennai: A newly married couple allegedly committed suicide at their house in Madipakkam on Wednesday morning, as the man could not get over the pain of losing his mother.

The deceased were identified as G.Sarathy and S.Prashanthi, residents of Balaiah Garden in Madipakkam. The 31-year-old Sarathy and his wife Prashanthi got married five months ago, and both were working for a private mobile company in OMR. Prashanthi was four months pregnant.

According to sources, Sarathy’s mother Lalitha died in November 2017. Sarathy who was very attached to his mother could not cope with the loss.

To help Sarathy get over his depression, his brother Manibalan (35) got him married to Prashanthi in July 2018. However, Sarathy could not lead a happy life as there seemed no end to his grief.

According to the police, a month back Manibalan moved out of the house with his wife and a son and rented another house in the locality. Meanwhile, on Wednesday morning Manibalan tried to contact his brother many times, but in vain. On suspicion, Manibalan visited his house and to his shock found Sarathy and Prashanthi hanging in the bedroom.

On being informed Madipakkam polcie rushed to the spot and recovered the bodies of the couple and sent them to Chromepet government hospital for post-mortem. On searching the house, police found a suicide note written by Sarathy which mentioned that he could not bear losing his mother and had decided to end his life. Prashanthi, who was also depressed by her husband’s behaviour, allegedly committed suicide, said sources. Police are now conducting investigations with Manibalan and his wife.

DVAC officials raid TNPCB office

Officials from the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) on Wednesday raided the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board office here and seized unaccounted cash of Rs. 3 lakh. According to sources, the raid was carried out following complaints that the officials had been collecting bribe for issuing no-objection certificates to factories. Several officials, including the Assistant Engineer Nakheeran, were questioned.

கடன் பிரச்னையால், சென்னையில் உள்ள விடுதியில் தொழிலதிபர் ஒருவர் மனைவியுடன் தற்கொலை செய்துகொண்டார். அவர்கள் எழுதிய கடிதத்தை போலீஸார் கைப்பற்றியுள்ளனர்.

தூத்துக்குடி மாவட்டம் பரமன்குறிச்சியைச் சேர்ந்தவர் கிருஷ்ணவேல் (50). சென்னை, ஷெனாய்நகர் வெங்கடாசலபதி தெருவில் குடியிருந்தார். இவரின் மனைவி உமா (36). இவர்களுக்கு ஒரு மகன், ஒரு மகள் உள்ளனர். சென்னையை அடுத்த மணலியில் அலுமினிய நிறுவனம் நடத்திவந்தார். தொழிலை விரிவாக்கம் செய்வதற்காக வங்கியில் ஒரு கோடி ரூபாய் கடன் பெற்றதாகக் கூறப்படுகிறது. தொழிலில் நஷ்டம் ஏற்பட்டதால், கடனைத் திருப்பிச் செலுத்த முடியவில்லை. இதனால், கிருஷ்ணவேல் கடும் மன உளைச்சலில் இருந்துள்ளார். இந்நிலையில், குடும்பத்தினருடன் சென்னை எழும்பூரில் உள்ள லாட்ஜில் தங்கினார். அப்போது, வீட்டில் கட்டடப்பணிகள் நடப்பதால், விடுதியில் தங்குவதாகக் கூறியுள்ளார். அதை நம்பிய விடுதி ஊழியர்கள் அறை கொடுத்துள்ளனர். குடும்பத்தினருடன் 206-ம் நம்பர் அறையில் தங்கியுள்ளார்.



இன்று அதிகாலை, கிருஷ்ணவேலின் மகள் அழுதுகொண்டே தங்கும் விடுதியின் வரவேற்பு அறைக்கு ஓடிவந்தார். அவரிடம் விடுதி ஊழியர்கள் விசாரித்தபோது, அம்மாவும் அப்பாவும் தற்கொலை செய்துகொண்டதாகத் தெரிவித்துள்ளார். இதனால் அதிர்ச்சியடைந்த விடுதி ஊழியர்கள், அறைக்குச் சென்று பார்த்தனர். அப்போது கிருஷ்ணவேல், உமா ஆகியோர் விஷம் அருந்தி இறந்துகிடந்தனர். தகவல் அறிந்ததும் எழும்பூர் போலீஸார் சம்பவ இடத்துக்கு வந்து, இருவரின் சடலத்தையும் கைப்பற்றி பிரேதப் பரிசோதனைக்காக ராஜீவ் காந்தி அரசு ஆஸ்பத்திரிக்கு அனுப்பிவைத்தனர். குழந்தைகள் இருவருக்கும் மயக்க மருந்து கொடுத்து, அவர்கள் தூங்கிய பின்னர் இருவரும் தற்கொலை செய்துகொண்டது தெரியவந்தது. கிருஷ்ணவேல் எழுதிய மூன்று பக்கக் கடிதத்தை போலீஸார் கைப்பற்றியுள்ளனர். அதில், வாங்கிய கடனுக்காக சொந்தமான இடத்தை உறவினர்கள் நம்பிக்கைத் துரோகம் செய்து பறித்துக்கொண்ட தகவல் கடிதத்தில் குறிப்பிடப்பட்டுள்ளது. அதன்அடிப்படையில், சம்பந்தப்பட்டவர்களிடம் விசாரணை நடத்த போலீஸார் முடிவுசெய்துள்ளனர்.

காலையில் மயக்கம் தெளித்த கிருஷ்ணவேலின் மகள், அப்பா, அம்மா இருவரும் வாயில் நுரைதள்ளியபடி கிடந்ததைப் பார்த்து அதிர்ச்சியடைந்துள்ளார். உடனடியாகத் தனது சகோதரனை எழுப்ப முயற்சிசெய்துள்ளார். ஆனால், மயக்கம் காரணமாக அவர் கண்விழிக்கவில்லை. அதனால்தான் விடுதியின் வரவேற்பு அறைக்கு அவர் ஓடியுள்ளார். அங்கு தகவல் தெரிவித்தவுடன், இருவரையும் ஆம்புலன்ஸில் ஏற்றி மருத்துவமனைக்குக் கொண்டுசென்றனர். அங்கு அவர்களைப் பரிசோதித்த டாக்டர்கள், இறந்துவிட்டதாகத் தெரிவித்தனர். படுக்கையில் மயங்கிக்கிடந்த தொழிலதிபர் கிருஷ்ணவேலின் மகனுக்கு மருத்துவமனையில் சிகிச்சைஅளிக்கப்பட்டது. அதன்பிறகே அவருக்கு மயக்கம் தெளிந்துள்ளது. அப்பாவும் அம்மாவும் இப்படி பண்ணிவிட்டார்களே என்று அவர் மருத்துவமனையில் கதறி அழுதார்.

ஒரே நேரத்தில் அம்மாவும் அப்பாவும் இறந்ததால், அவர்களின் மகனும் மகளும் கதறி அழுதச் சம்பவம் பெரும் சோகத்தை ஏற்படுத்தியது. தங்களுடைய அப்பா, அம்மாவின் மரணத்துக்குக் காரணமானவர்கள் மீது கடும் நடவடிக்கை எடுக்க வேண்டும் என்று போலீஸாரிடம் அவர்கள் கூறியுள்ளனர்.

Zomato tapes packs after TN delivery exec eats customers’ food

In a damage-control measure, Zomato on Monday night issued a statement that it would introduce tamperproof tapes to seal food delivery boxes after a video of one of its agent gorging on customers’ food in Madurai went viral.

The video, which was shared widely on Facebook and Twitter, shows a Zomato food delivery boy eating from each packet he was to deliver. He then repackages them and puts them back in his delivery bag.

Hundreds commented on the shared video. Customers, who had earlier complained to Zomato that they got lesser quantity of food than promised on the menu, squarely blamed the delivery agents for it.

While some felt delivery agents were to be pitied more than blamed because of being severely underpaid, others said they would think twice before ordering online. “The Zomato delivery chap eating from various orders is depressing. This is what happens when you make people who can’t afford a square meal, keep handling mountains of food. All food deliveries should offer 1-2 square meals a day for their delivery people. It’s only fair. Great CSR,” tweeted columnist Rajyasree Sen.

Facing harsh criticism from users, the Bengalurubased food tech company said, “Last night, we came across a video of a delivery executive in a Zomato t-shirt, carrying a Zomato delivery bag, eating food out of boxed orders and replacing each one after resealing them, back into the delivery bag. The video suggests that he consumed some of the food meant for delivery to users, on his way to the drop points. We want our users, restaurant partners and all stakeholders to know that we take these kinds of reports extremely seriously.”

Zomato says agent taken off platform

Zomato said that it has found that the agent is from Madurai in Tamil Nadu and has been taken off the platform.

Zomato said, “We would like to reiterate that given our multiple communication channels with users, who expect the highest standards from Zomato and highlight the smallest of deviations to us as soon as they receive their orders, this is a highly unusual and a rare case. We take this very seriously and will soon introduce tamper-proof tapes, and other precautionary measures to ensure we add an extra layer of safeguard against such behaviour.”

CHENNAI: The Central government’s counter-affidavit filed in the Supreme Court on November 28, in response to a petition filed by the families of those who lost their kin in the 1991 bomb blast that killed  former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, has given fresh hope to the seven convicts in the assassination case who are awaiting the decision of Governor Banwarilal Purohit on their release.

The petition filed in 2014 against the TN government’s decision to remit the life sentences of the seven convicts is still pending before Supreme Court.


The Centre, in its counter affidavit, said: “The petitioner has prayed to restrain the respondents from granting pardons.... till the disposal of the instant writ petition. In this regard, it is stated that the proposal of the government of Tamil Nadu... to release the seven convicts... has already been decided and rejected by the ministry vide order dated April 18, 2018.... No proposal in this regard is pending with the answering respondent and thus, the prayer is infructuous....”

“The Centre has given the green signal to the Governor to release the convicts. There are reports that he was awaiting the SC verdict to take a decision. Though legally there is nothing binding on the Governor to decide on the State’s recommendation, now, even the veil, in the form of the petition, has been removed,
with the Centre calling the petition infructuous,” K Sivakumar, counsel for Perarivalan, one of the seven said.

Do you believe the UK will extradite you to India?
• I cannot predict nor comment before the extradition judgment tomorrow (today, Monday).
If you lose, then what? Do you want to sit down with the government of India and sort this out?
• Extradition is a legal process that is not subject to bilateral negotiation. Whatever the judgment, my legal team will study it in detail and then decide on any future course of action.
If you win then what, is the offer still on the table? Can you summarise what your settlement is at Karnataka high court and what the status of the offer is? Are the banks willing to accept it? Where is the money for your offer of full settlement of your creditors’ dues coming from?
• As I have repeatedly said, I have been making settlement offers since 2016. These settlement offers have absolutely nothing to do with my extradition case. I have placed assets worth in excess of Rs 14,000 crore before the Karnataka high court with a request that these be sold under judicial supervision and the court can then decide on payment to all creditors and employees. There is more than enough on the table.
Why have you suddenly now offered to pay the entire principal amount you owe to banks in India?
• Nothing sudden about it. My assets are largely in the form of quoted shares which have increased in value over time since 2016. The same banks filed a complaint before the CBI and ED who attached the assets. Effectively the ED and banks are fighting over the same assets. The PMLA tribunal have ruled that they will pass final orders on merit if the Karnataka high court decides to proceed with my settlement offer.
Has this offer not already been turned down by the government?
• It is obvious that the government have told the banks not to accept any offer and on the other hand have told the ED to attach and/or confiscate my assets. That is why I approached the Karnataka high court in June this year. I want to finally correct the narrative that I stole public money and ran away. I did not steal and, on the contrary, infused Rs 4,000 crore of my money to save the airline.
Are you awaiting the elections to determine whether you want to return to India? Do you want to go back and settle in India and restart a business in India?
• As I said in 2016, I have semiretired and publicly stated my intention to spend more time with my kids all of whom are overseas.
Your lawyer has spoken consistently about the poor track record of the CBI. If exonerated, do you feel your brand and business have been permanently damaged? Are you concerned your legal troubles have dented your brand and business?
• The witch-hunt by the government and the manner in which I have become a poster boy and political football has (sic) certainly damaged by reputation beyond repair. Even so, I want to settle with banks, employees and other creditors.
Do you believe that you became a target once you sold off your businesses and therefore politicians and the system had nothing more to get out of you? Did you become the victim of a vendetta?
• It’s blindingly obvious. All of them were my friends over the past 30 years when I ran my alcohol businesses.
How have the last couple of years been for you whilst facing attempts to extradite you?
• Stressful and at great damage to my reputation.
What is your biggest fear about returning to India?
• Politically motivated lack of fair trial and the ability of the politicians to create numerous new allegations which provide for pre-trial detention.
Do you not trust the Indian legal system?
• I trust the legal system.
Have you been in touch with banks or politicians since you last left the country? If yes, what have you talked to them about?
• Settle, settle, settle.
You have often spoken about feeling targeted. Why is that? Do you feel you are a victim of a political witch-hunt?
• Very obvious that because of my image and media presence I became a poster boy for bank default.
Do you think prison conditions in India are fine, and what do you think of the recent decision that the Tihar prison complex poses no bar to Sanjeev Chawla’s extradition?
• Cannot comment.
Are you satisfied with the conditions of Arthur Road jail, and would you be willing to go to prison?
• This is for courts to decide in due course.
Might the infighting between top CBI officers in recent weeks help your case? Do you plan to use the CBI mudslinging in your appeal?
• My view of the CBI has already been stated.
What has led to your flurry of tweets in the last few days?
• My settlement application hearing is coming up. I want people to know that I am keen to settle and that such offers have nothing to do with my extradition case.
Will you pay the outstanding salaries owed to Kingfisher Airlines staff?
• Of course. What people do not talk about is that we applied to courts in 2014 and 2015 to withdraw deposits in courts specifically to pay employees and have not got a decision. I am very happy to pay employees first if the high court takes my settlement offer further. Between the ED on one side and the banks on the other, I am stuck in the middle, which only a court of law can resolve.
Do you feel you would have been better off staying in India and negotiating a settlement rather than leaving when the investigations ramped up?
• It would have made no difference. But I would not put it past the CBI and ED, to whom the banks complained, to put me in prison and throw away the keys till I accepted all their demands without a fair trial.
Why did you not leave India earlier than you did?
• I have lived in the UK and travelled to India and other countries — not the other way around. I have been an NRI since 1988 and have been travelling in and out ever since.
There are bigger loan defaulters than you, but do you think your opulent lifestyle, withholding Kingfisher salaries and PFs, and splashing out on cricketers in the Royal Challengers has spoiled your case?
• Maybe, but it only proves my point — that I am a poster boy who is begging to pay back. I ran other very successful large businesses and no Kingfisher Airlines money was used.

London:The judgment as to whether Vijay Mallya — who stands accused by the CBI and ED of fraudulently obtaining Rs 10,000 crore in loans from Indian banks for his now defunct Kingfisher Airlines and of money laundering — should be extradited to India will be delivered by a UK court on Monday.

Chief magistrate Emma Arbuthnot has trawled through thousands of pages of evidence in the high-profile trial in which Mallya’s barrister, Clare Montgomery QC, launched attacks on the prosecution evidence, the CBI and India’s Supreme Court.

Her job is to make a decision on whether Mallya’s conduct amounts to an extradition offence. The extradition treaty between the UK and India that a suspect can be extradited from one country to stand trial for breaking a second country’s laws only if a similar law exists in the extraditing country.

Arbuthnot also has to consider if none of the bars to extradition apply, that there is prima facie evidence of guilt and whether extradition would breach the person’s human rights.

The judgment expected at Westminster magistrates’ court on Monday afternoon comes nearly two years after the Indian government first handed over the extradition request to the British high commission in New Delhi in February 2017. The trial took place in December 2017.

Governor returns file on convicts’ early release

State to resend file saying there was neither motive nor conspiracy in the killings


Governor Banwarilal Purohit has sent back for “reconsideration” the State government’s proposal recommending premature release of three life convicts in the sensational Dharmapuri bus burning case, sources in the Secretariat said on Friday.

On its part, the State government is expected to resend the file to Raj Bhavan citing the absence of a motive or conspiracy in the incident that resulted in the deaths of three college girls. It will argue that the convicts can be released under the provisions of Article 161 of the Constitution, the sources added.

The case relates to the death of Kokilavani, Gayathri and Hemalatha, all students of the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore, when the bus they were travelling in along with 44 other students and two teachers was torched by the three convicts on February 2, 2000, after the conviction of former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa in a criminal case. Nedunchezhian, Ravindran and Muniappan were initially awarded the death penalty.

Convicts Nedunchezhian, Ravindran and Muniappan got relief in March 2016 when the SC commuted their punishment to life imprisonment, saying that the incident was not pre-meditated.

Tirunelveli: Gross negligence on the part of the Tirunelveli district administration to set up an internal complaints committee (ICC) at the district collector’s office to handle complaints of sexual harassment by women employees, made a single mother lose her job when she openly spoke against her superior officer, a tahsildar, for misbehaving with her.

M Saranya (25), mother of two children, is separated from her husband with whom a divorce case is pending. She has been working as a temporary employee in the disaster management department at the Tirunelveli district collector’s office since 2015.

Saranya said she was subjected to dowry harassment at the hands of her husband and in-laws and attempted self-immolation to escape from their torture. She was saved, but became disabled in the suicide attempt and got the job on compassionate grounds three years ago.

Her woes, however, did not end as she had to face sexual harassment from her immediate superior officer, the tahsildar of the disaster management department. “He made me to stay in the evenings after regular office hours and behaved in an uncivilized manner,” complained Saranya, who added that the tahsildar even compelled her to come to the office on weekends when “he touched me inappropriately and made sexual remarks”.

Unable to bear the sexual harassment, Saranya lodged a complaint with Tirunelveli district revenue officer P Muthuramalingam a few weeks ago. However, as it did not work out, Saranya approached district collector Shilpa Prabakar Satish, hoping that she too being a woman, would help her out. “I failed as the district collector told me that she could do nothing in the issue,” regretted Saranya, who added that the collector directed her to the city police commissioner.

“My complaint to the city police commissioner also was in vain, and hence as a last resort, I sought the help of the All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA, affiliated to the CPI-M),” said Saranya.

The result, however, was detrimental and another person was appointed in her place in the disaster management department at the Tirunelveli district collector’s office.

Now, The AIDWA has taken up the issue, said Tirunelveli district secretary of the women’s body, P Karpagam, who met the district collector on Tuesday and represented the issue.

“We have sent complaint petitions to the Chief Minister’s cell,” said the AIDWA district secretary, adding, “Saranya’s problem is not an isolated incident. Many such women employees in government and private establishments in the district are undergoing harassment and are unable to fight it out.”

Kar pagam charged the Tirunelveli district administration with defiance of the Sexual Harassment at the work place (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013, by not constituting the internal complaints committee (ICC) for women employees to lodge their complaints about sexual exploitation by higher officials.

It is the statutory responsibility of the district collector as the head of the district collector’s office premises to display conspicuously the penal consequences of indulging in acts that may constitute sexual harassment and the  composition of the internal complaints committee. “But nowhere in the collectorate premises could we see such a display,” said Karpagam, adding, AIDWA would pursue the issue until Saranya got justice.

Following allegations of sexual harassment against him, lyricist Vairamuthu had sent a video message on Sunday in which he challenged the allegations and said that his accusers can approach the court, where he would prove his innocence. But now, on Monday, a woman identifying herself as Ishwarya on Twitter, has posted an audio claiming that the lyricist behaved improperly with her friend.

In the message, the woman says, “Hello, Mr Vairamuthu, I know that you will easily identify me by my voice, but I’m speaking here on behalf of my friend. I don’t need to know if you are a good or a bad person, but I know that you have done wrong and you are a terrible man. My 24-year-old friend had approached you for an autograph, out of the respect she had for you when you had come to Kalakshetra. You had asked her for her number, and she had shared it with you as you were like a father figure to her. But you did not behave like an elder. You called her at night saying you had written a poem for her and read it out to her. After hearing it, she was heartbroken and dejected, and I know this because I was with her at the time. You might have forgotten the poem, so let me recall it for you… Un iduppu oru udukkai/ Un maarbo oru padukkai (Your hips are like damru/ Your chest is like a bed)! I hope you remember it now as your poem. You are someone who writes poetry to make others happy, and you hold romance in high regard, but your conscience knows how immoral your behaviour was. You know if this is true or not, for I swear on my conscience that this is true. And this is why I’m opening up (on this incident) now. If you deny this incident as being true, and maintain that ‘The girl is lying, this is not my poem,’ I’m ready to prove that this poem is yours and that you had tortured my friend. I know that you know that this is your poem. You can neither hide this nor forget this; neither can you run away nor hide. Do not forget.”

The woman also praised singer Chinmayi, who is one of the many women who have come out with allegations against the lyricist after the #MeToo movement picked up steam in india. “Chinmayi, hats off to you,” she praises, “It is only because of you that I’m now able to speak about this issue. To be frank, I’m ashamed that I did not speak out until now. I’ve become emboldened to open up only after seeing you speaking out. If we, women, all collectively speak of the abuse we have endured, the men cannot even sleep after hearing those. That is the truth. Let’s all fight for truth and for the women who have been harassed. Let’s ensure that justice prevails.”

#MeToo gathers storm in K’wood: Director Susi Ganesan too named

Chennai: With the #Metoo movement gaining momentum,Tamil poetess and filmmaker Leena Manimekalai on Tuesday alleged that film director Susi Ganesan locked her in his car about 13 years ago and threatened her to accompany him to his apartment.

However the director trashed the charges, terming them as “outright, false and libellous,” adding he has filed a police complaint to prevent Manimekalai from spreading “slanderous” content in the social media. “I will be filing both civil and criminal defamation cases against her in court,” he said.

The accusation comes days after singer Chinmayi Sripaada accused lyricist Vairamuthu of misconduct days ago. The lyricist had denied the allegation.

Leena in a tweet said, “I am gathering courage to write more of my experiences. Let me start with this. Film director who locked me up in the car when I started as a television anchor is Susi Ganesan. Hope more voices join me to be heard. #metoo.”

She also gave a link to her February 20, 2017 Facebook post in which she had narrated her alleged ordeal, without naming the director. AGENCIES

'மீ டூ'... கடந்த சில தினங்களாக இணைய உலகத்தை பரபரப்புக்குள்ளான வார்த்தையாக மாறியிருக்கிறது.

பாலிவுட் நடிகை தனுஸ்ரீ தத்தா, பிரபல பாலிவுட் நடிகர் நானா படேகர் மீது பத்து ஆண்டுகளுக்குப் பிறகு அளித்த பாலியல் குற்றச்சாட்டுக்கு எழுந்த எதிர்வினைகளைத் தொடர்ந்து திரைப்படத்துறை, பத்திரிகைத் துறை என பல துறைகளைச் சேர்ந்த பெண்கள் பலரும் தங்களுக்கு ஏற்பட்ட பாலியல் வன்முறைகள் குறித்த பதிவுகளை சமூக வலைதளங்களில் பதிவிட்டு வருகின்றனர். அந்த வகையில் 'மீ டூ' பெண்களுக்கு எதிரான பாலியல் வன்முறைகளுக்கு எதிரான இணைய இயக்கமாக இந்தியாவில் மாறி இருக்கிறது.

2006 ஆம் ஆண்டு அமெரிக்காவின் சமூக ஆர்வலரான தாரானா பர்க் என்ற பெண்மணி, பாலியல் துன்புறுத்தல்களால் பாதிக்கப்பட்ட பொருளாதாரத்தில் பின்தங்கிய பெண்களுக்கு ஆதரவாகப் பல குரல்கள் உள்ளன என்பதை உணர்த்தும் வகையில் 2006 ஆம் ஆண்டு #METOO இயக்கத்தை ஆரம்பித்தார்.

இதன் தாக்கமே தற்போது இந்தியாவில் பாலியல் துன்புறுத்தல்களைப் பொதுவெளியில் துணிந்து பேசுவதற்கான வாய்ப்புகளைப் பலருக்கும் ஏற்படுத்தி இருக்கிறது.

இந்தப் பாலியல் குற்றச்சாட்டுகளை ஒரு பார்வையாளராக அந்தப் புகார்களின் வட்டத்துக்கு வெளியே இருந்து பார்க்கும்போது பல விதமான விமர்சனங்களும், கேள்விகளும் எழுவது ஒரு சராசரி மனிதனின் இயல்பு.

ஏன் அந்தப் பெண்கள் இவ்வளவு நாட்கள், இவ்வளவு வருடங்களுக்குப் பிறகு இந்தக் குற்றச்சாட்டை பொதுவெளியில் கூறுகிறார்கள்? ஏன் அவர்கள் அந்தத் தவறுகள் நேர்ந்த தருணத்தில் எதிர்வினை ஆற்றவில்லை என்று பல கேள்விகள் எழுப்பப்படுகின்றன.

இன்னொரு புறம், பெண்களுக்கு மட்டும்தான் பாலியல் பிரச்சினைகள் ஏற்படுகின்றனவா? ஆண்கள் இம்மாதிரியான பாலியல் துன்புறுத்தல்களால் பாதிக்கப்படவில்லையா? அவர்கள் ஏன் இதைப் பொதுவெளியில் கூற மறுக்கிறார்கள் போன்ற கேள்விகளையும் ஆங்காங்கே காண முடிகிறது.

இக்கேள்விகளை இந்து தமிழ் இணையதளம் சார்பாக இலக்கியம், ஊடகம், தகவல் தொழில்நுட்பம் சார்ந்து இயங்கும் ஆண்கள் சிலரிடம் முன் வைத்தோம்.

முதலில் இது வரவேற்கப்பட வேண்டியது. ஏன் இவ்வளவு வருடங்கள் கழித்து இப்பெண்கள் இப்புகாரைக் கூறுகிறார்கள் என்று கேட்பது அறியாமையின் வெளிப்பாடு மட்டுமே.

அந்தக் காலகட்டத்தில் அப்பெண் இதனைப் பொதுவெளியில் கூறுவதற்கான வாய்ப்பை சமூகமாகிய நாம் வழங்கவில்லை என்பதுதான் உண்மை. இதில் விளிம்பு நிலையில் உழைக்கும் சமூகத்தில் உள்ள பெண்களை உற்று கவனித்தால் புரியும். உதாரணத்துக்கு ஒரு மீன் விற்கும் பெண்மணியை எடுத்துக் கொள்ளுங்கள். தன்னிடம் தவறாக நடந்துகொண்ட பேருந்து நடத்துநரிடம் அப்பெண் தைரியத்துடன் அவரை எதிர்கொண்டு நடத்துநரின் தவறை உணர்த்திய சம்பவத்தை நான் நேரில் பார்த்திருக்கிறேன்.

இவர்களைப் போன்ற பெண்கள் இயல்பாகவே இந்தச் சிக்கலான சமூகக் கட்டமைப்பில் வாழக் கற்றுக் கொண்டுள்ளதுடன் தங்களைப் பாதுகாக்கவும் கற்றுக் கொண்டுள்ளனர். அவர்களிடம் நாம் தைரியத்தை உருவாக்க வேண்டியதில்லை.

ஆனால், இதற்கு அப்பால் ஒரு மேல்நிலை வர்க்கம் உள்ளது. அவர்களுக்கு இந்தச் சமூகம், ஆண்களுக்குப் பிறகுதான் நீ என்று கற்பிக்கப்பட்ட கலாச்சார அச்சத்தினால் அவர்களில் பலர் தங்களுக்கு நேர்வதை ஏற்றுக்கொள்கிறார்கள். பிறகு தன்னைப் போன்ற பெண் ஒருவர் பாதிக்கப்பட்டதை வெளியில் கூறும்போது அவர்களும் இணைந்து கொள்கிறார்கள். இதில் குற்றம் சொல்ல என்ன இருக்கிறது?

’மீ டூ ’ இந்தியாவைப் பொறுத்தவரை பணியிடங்கள் சார்ந்த பிரச்சினையாக மட்டும் பார்க்கப்படுகிறது. பணியிடங்களுக்கு அப்பால் நமது குடும்பங்களில் உள்ள பிரச்சினைகள் இங்கு எழுப்பப்படவில்லை. நான் நீண்டகாலமாக விளிம்பு நிலையில் உள்ள குடும்பங்களுடன் பாலியல் சார்ந்த உரையாடலை நடத்தி இருக்கிறேன். அவர்களின் பெரும்பாலான பெண்கள் தங்களது குடும்பத்திலுள்ள சொந்த அப்பாவாலும், அண்ணனாலும், தம்பியாலும், மாமாவாலும், சித்தப்பாவாலும் பாலியல் துன்புறுத்தலுக்கு உள்ளாகி இருக்கிறார்கள்.

இது உண்மையா? பொய்யா? என்று ஆராய்வதற்கு முன்னர், இது உண்மையாக இருக்கலாம் என்ற வாய்ப்பை நான் ஏன் நம்புகிறேன். ஏனென்றால், நமது சாதி மற்றும் மதம் சார்ந்த ஆணாதிக்கச் சமூகத்தில் இம்மாதிரியான பாலியல் துன்புறுத்தல்கள் நியாயப்படுத்தப்படுகின்றன.

இங்கு பெண் என்பவள் இராண்டாம் பால்...இன்னும் வெளிப்படையாகக் கூறினால் இரண்டாம் பால் என்பதைவிட பெண் என்பவள் பாலியல் பண்டமாகத்தான் நம் சமூகத்தில் பார்க்கப்பட்டுக் கொண்டிருக்கிறாள். கடந்த சில வருடங்களில் ஐரோப்பிய சமூகத்தில் பாலினம் சார்ந்த ஏற்ற இறக்கங்கள் நடந்துள்ளன. ஆனால் நமது குடும்பங்கள் நிறைந்த சமூகத்தில் அம்மாதிரியான எந்த மாற்றமும் ஏற்படவில்லை.

இங்கு ஜனநாயகமும், சம உரிமையும் பெண்ணுக்குக் கிடையாது. ஐரோப்பா போன்ற கண்டங்களில் நிர்வாக தளங்களில் தலைமைப் பணிகளில் பெண்கள் இருக்கிறார்கள். ஆனால் இங்கு ஒரு ஊடகத்தில் கூட ஒரு பெண் ஆசிரியரை நீங்கள் காண முடியாது. வெறும் தொகுப்பாளராகவும் காட்சிப் பொருளாகாவும் மட்டுமே பெண்கள் பல நேரங்களில் காட்சிப்படுத்தப்படுகிறார்கள்.

பெண்களின் முழு ஆற்றலை வெளிப்படுத்துவதற்கான வாய்ப்பை நாம் இன்னும் ஏற்படுத்தித் தரவில்லை. பெண்களுக்கு எதிரான அநீதி ஒன்று மிக இயல்பான கட்டமைப்பில் நமது சமூகத்தில் இருந்துகொண்டே இருக்கிறது.

பெண்களின் இந்தக் குற்றச்சாட்டுகளில் சில குறைவாகவோ அல்லது மிகைப்படுத்தியோ கூறப்பட்டிருக்கலாம். ஆனால், நமது சமூக அமைப்பில் இது நிச்சயம் நிகழக்கூடியதுதான் என்பதை மறுப்பதற்கில்லை.

ஆண்கள் தங்களுக்கு நேரும் பாலியல் துன்புறுத்தல்களைப் பொதுவெளியில் கூறாமல் இருப்பதற்கும் பாலியல் சமத்துவமின்மையே காரணம் என்று கூறுவேன். நம்மைப் பொறுத்தவரை ஆண் என்பவன் அதிகாரம் மிக்கவன். இது அவனது ஆண்மை தொடர்பான விஷயம். எடுத்துக்காட்டுக்கு தன்னைப் பெண் ஒருவர் கிண்டலடித்தால் தன் நண்பனிடமும் குடும்பத்தினரிடமும் அந்த ஆண் கூற நேர்ந்தால்..அடுத்து அவனை நோக்கி எழுப்பப்படும் கேள்வி ”நீ ஆம்பளையாடா?” இம்மாதிரியான கொடுமையான வன்முறைகள் நமது சமூகத்தில் ஆணை நோக்கி கட்டமைக்கப்பட்டிருக்கிறது.

உளவியல் ரீதியாக பெண்ணை விட ஆண் தான் நமது சமூகத்தில் பலவீனமாக இருக்கிறான். தனது தாழ்வு மனப்பான்மையை மறைப்பதற்கு ஆண் தன்னை மேலானவன் என நினைத்துக் கொள்கிறான். அவனும் துன்பப்பட்டு..இந்தச் சமூகத்தையும் துன்பப்படுத்திக் கொண்டிருக்கிறான்.

தனித்துவமான தன்மையை ஆண்கள் வளர்த்துக்கொள்ள வேண்டும். இது பெண்களுக்கும் பொருந்தும். இந்த ஆண் என்ற கருத்தாக்கத்தை உளவியல் தன்மை கொண்டு உடைத்தெறிய வேண்டும் என்ற கட்டாயத்தில் நாம் இருக்கிறோம்.

இதன் மூலம் நமது சமூக அமைப்பில் நாம் ஒருபடி முன்னோக்கிச் செல்ல வேண்டும். உளவியல் ரீதியாக ஆண், பெண் இருவரிடத்திலும் நாம் பாலியல் துன்புறுத்தல்களை மறைக்கும் தன்மையை நீக்க வேண்டும்.

இந்த 'மீ டூ' பிரச்சாரத்தின் மூலம் ஆண் தங்களை சுய பரிசோதனை செய்து கொள்வதற்கு, தங்களை திருத்திக் கொள்வதற்கு ஒரு வாய்ப்பாக இருக்கும் என்று நம்புகிறேன். பாலியல் சார்ந்த புரிதல்கள் கல்வி மூலமாக உரையாடலாக மாற்றப்பட்டு விவாதிக்கப்படும்போது, இம்மாதிரியான தவறுகள் குறையும் என்று நம்புகிறேன்.

இளைஞர்களை எடுத்துக்கொண்டால் அவர்களில் சிலர் இதனை ஏற்றுக் கொள்கிறார்கள். சிலர் குடும்பச் சூழ்நிலையானாலும் இந்த சமூகம் கற்பித்த தவறான போதனைகளாலும் கூறாமல் சென்று விடுகிறார்கள். இந்த மனப்பான்மையில் மாற்றம் வேண்டும்.

’மீ டூ’ குறித்து சமூக வலைதளங்களில் எழுந்துள்ள விவாதம் நிச்சயம் ஆரோக்கியமானதுதான். ஆனால், குற்றம் சொல்பவரின் குரல்கள் ஒலிக்கப்படும்போதும், குற்றம் சாட்டப்பட்டவருடனான பதிலையும் பெற வேண்டியது இந்த விஷயத்தில் மிக முக்கியம்.

வெறும் பதிவுகளாக இதனைக் கடந்து செல்லாமல் அடுத்த கட்டத்தை நோக்கி இந்தப் பிரச்சாரத்தை எடுத்துச் செல்ல வேண்டும்.

ஆண்களைப் பொறுத்தவரை பாலியல் சார்ந்த புகார்களை அவர்கள் ஏன் பொதுவெளியில் கூறுவது இல்லை என்றால்? நமது சமூகத்தைப் பொறுத்தவரை பெண்களுக்குத்தான் இதுகுறித்தான போதனைகள் வழங்கப்பட்டுக் கொண்டே உள்ளன. ஆண்களுக்கு இல்லையே... அவர்களுக்கு இது பெரிய தாக்கத்தை ஏற்படுத்தாது என்று நினைக்கிறேன்.

ஆனால் பெண்களுக்கான பார்வை இந்த விஷயத்தில் வேறுபடுகிறது. ஆண்கள் இதிலிருந்து மீண்டு வந்துவிடுவார்கள்.

கல்வியில் பாலியல் சார்ந்த உரையாடல்கள் அதிகம் நடக்க வேண்டும். அப்போது இது ஆண்கள், பெண்கள் இருவருக்கும் இதுசார்ந்த உளவியல் தொடர்பான பிரச்சினைகளுக்குத் தீர்வு ஏற்படும்.

’மீ டூ’ இயக்கத்தின் தொடர் இணையப் பிரச்சாரங்களின் எதிரொலியாக, பெண்கள் தெரிவிக்கும் பாலியல் புகார்களை விசாரிக்க சட்ட நிபுணர்களைக் கொண்ட குழு அமைக்கப்படும் என்று மத்திய அமைச்சர் மேனகா காந்தி தெரிவித்திருப்பதன் மூலம் இந்தப் பிரச்சாரத்துக்கான சிறிய அங்கீகாரம் கிடைத்துள்ளது. இதேபோல் இந்த புகார்களின் உண்மைத் தன்மையைக் கண்டறிந்து அப்பெண்களுக்கான நீதி கிட்டும் என்ற நம்பிக்கை ஏற்பட்டுள்ளது.

பெண்கள் தங்களுக்கு ஏற் பட்ட பாலியல் ரீதியான துன் புறுத்தல்களை பொதுவெளியில் அம்பலப்படுத்தும் வகையில் ‘மீ டூ' (நானும் தான்) என்ற ஹேஷ்டேக் பிரச்சார இயக்கம் ட்விட்டரில் நடந்து வருகிறது. மத்திய வெளியுறவுத் துறை இணை அமைச்சரும், மூத்த பத்திரிகையாளருமான எம்.ஜே. அக்பர், பிரபல இந்தி நடிகர் நானா படேகர் உள்ளிட்ட அரசியல், திரையுலகம், ஊடகம் என பல்துறை பிரபலங்கள் மீது பாலியல் புகார்கள் குவிந்து வருகின்றன.

‘மீ டூ' ஹேஷ்டேக் மூலம் கவிஞர் வைரமுத்து மீது பின்னணி பாடகி சின்மயி பாலியல் புகார் கூறியது தமிழகத்தில் பெரும் பரபரப்பை ஏற்படுத்தியுள்ளது. அதற்கு பதிலளித்த வைரமுத்து, ‘அறியப்பட்டவர்கள் மீது அவதூறு பரப்பும் அநாகரிகம் நாடெங்கும் இப்போது நாகரிகமாகி வருகி றது. அண்மைக்காலமாக நான் தொடர்ச்சியாக அவமானப்படுத் தப்பட்டு வருகிறேன். அவற்றுள் இதுவும் ஒன்று. உண்மைக்குப் புறம்பான எதையும் நான் பொருட்படுத்துவதில்லை. உண்மையை காலம் சொல்லும்' என தெரிவித்திருந்தார்.

இந்நிலையில், ஊடகங்களுக்கு பேட்டியளித்த சின்மயி, ‘‘கவிஞர் வைரமுத்து மீது வழக்கு தொடர்வது குறித்து வழக்கறிஞர்களுடன் ஆலோசித்து வருகிறேன். நான் தனிநபர் இல்லை. என் பின்னால் ஏராளமான பெண்கள் இருக் கிறார்கள். நீதி கிடைக்கும்வரை போராடுவேன்'' என தெரிவித் திருந்தார்.

இதைத் தொடர்ந்து வைரமுத்து தனது ட்விட்டர் பக்கத்தில் நேற்று வெளியிட்ட வீடியோ பதிவில், ‘‘என் மீது சுமத்தப்பட்டு வரும் குற்றச்சாட்டுகள் எல்லாம் முழுக்க முழுக்க பொய்யானவை. முற்றிலும் உள்நோக்கம் உடையவை. அவை உண்மையாக இருந்தால் சம்பந்தப்பட்டவர்கள் என் மீது வழக்கு தொடுக்கலாம். சந்திக்க காத்திருக்கிறேன்.

மூத்த வழக்கறிஞர்களோடும், அறிவுலகத்தின் ஆன்றோர் களோடும் கடந்த ஒரு வாரமாக ஆழ்ந்து ஆலோசித்து வந்தேன். அசைக்க முடியாத ஆதாரங்களை தொகுத்து திரட்டி வைத்திருக் கிறேன். நீங்கள் வழக்கு போடலாம். சந்திக்க காத்திருக்கிறேன்.

நான் நல்லவனா, கெட்டவனா என்று இப்போது யாரும் முடிவு செய்ய வேண்டாம். நீதிமன்றம் சொல்லட்டும் நீதிக்கு தலை வணங்குகிறேன்'' என தெரிவித் துள்ளார்.

As part of the ongoing #MeToo India campaign, Senior journalist Vinod Dua has been accused by film-maker Nishtha Jain for allegedly sexually harassing her in 1989 when she had just graduated from the Jamia Mass Communication Centre.

In a Facebook post, Ms. Jain says she had attended an interview with Mr. Dua, who was starting a new venture. When she went to his office, he allegedly cracked a joke with sexual overtones and later humiliated her.

A few days after the incident, Mr. Dua reportedly came late at night to the organisation where she was working. Ms. Jain writes that he asked her to get inside his car. She says in the post, that she thought that he was there to apologise for his behaviour during the interview. But instead, he sexually assaulted her in his car, Ms. Jain alleged. She accused Mr. Dua of stalking her for the next few days. “I spotted him again in the parking in coming nights, after a few days he stopped stalking me,” she says in the post.

In a response to these allegations, Mr. Dua, who works for a news portal The Wire said, “I am consulting my colleagues and lawyers and will be issuing a statement soon.”

The lyricist should take a lie detector test, says singer Chinmayi

On Sunday, lyricist Vairamuthu released a pre-recorded video in response to several allegations of sexual misconduct being levelled at him. In it, he categorically stated that all the allegations were completely untrue.

“The allegations have been levelled with some ulterior motive. I am ready to face any legal action that they initiate,” he said.

He added that for the past week he had been in discussions with a legal team and claimed he had strong evidence ready now.
‘Don’t judge me now’

“If you decide to file a case, I am ready to face it. I request people not to judge me now, not to decide if I’m a good person or not, and instead let the courts decide first,” he said.

As a part of the #MeToo movement online, there were anonymous allegations against Mr. Vairamuthu.

Singer Chinmayi Sripaada had alleged through a series of tweets that she had been asked to ‘cooperate' with Mr. Vairamuthu by the organisers of an event in Switzerland. These allegations were denied by the organiser, Suresh, in a separate video response.
‘Take lie detector test’

Shortly after Mr. Vairamuthu's video response to the allegations against him came out, Ms. Chinmayi tweeted, saying, “Mr Vairamuthu should take a lie detector test. Enough said.”

Nearly a week after the #MeToo movement, actor Vishal, who is the general secretary of the South India Artists Association and president of the Tamil Film Producers Council, said that a three-member Internal Complaints Committee would be formed for all the bodies in the Tamil film industry, including the TFPC, Nadigar Sangam, Film Chamber and FEFSI.

“The three-member committee will ensure speedy redressal of complaints and will ensure safety for all women who are a part of the industry. It is a platform to make sure they are safe,” Mr. Vishal said, when asked about the #MeToo movement and the silence of the Tamil film industry bodies on the same.

Mr. Vishal was speaking at a press meet of his upcoming film on Saturday.

Here’s how you can teach your dogs to be calm around visitors.

WARNING BARK…

A warning bark sounds like a high frequency and a little hysterical. This bark may be constant or a series of small barks with short breaks. A guarding bark sounds like: Grrrrrrr-bark, bark-grrrrrrr. Depending on how defensive the dog is, a warning bark depends on the amount of growling. The bark may also be a deeper bark than usual.

Whether the barking is a warning or a guarding bark, your dog will have a high level of arousal, excitement or fear. You may see your dog react by lunging forward, spinning around, barking, jumping up your visitors or yourself, growling, running around, or she may be reacting with all of these behaviours.

Because of the high level of excitement, arousal or fear involved, your dog will also have a high level of stress. This causes the muscles to become full of adrenalin and become active. This is why it is not possible for your dog to keep still. Giving your dog something to hold in his mouth, such as a toy or blanket, can help your dog cope with the situation.

‘2 of 5 women don’t report sexual assault, says study

One in four of those reporting non-marital sexual violence are adolescents in the 15-19 age group, pointing to higher vulnerability of minors who are also less likely to report such instances to police as compared to adult women, a study on the lack of disclosure of such crimes has found.

Overall, two in five female survivors do not inform anyone of sexual violence suffered. The findings on the lack of disclosure are part of an analysis of the national family health survey – 4 (2015-16) that show of 4.4 lakh adolescent girls who were victims of sexual violence in the year preceding the survey, 35% neither sought help or told anyone. Only 0.1% girls reported the violence to police. The data analysis for the 15-49 year age group shows that 14 lakh women experienced sexual violence from someone outside their marriage. Here too, 42% neither sought help nor told anyone. Only 1.9% reported the violence to police.

The analysis on non-marital sexual violence in India is led by Dr Anita Raj, director of the Centre for Gender Equity and Health, University of California, in collaboration with the Mumbai-based International Institute for Population Sciences. The study concludes non-marital sexual violence is a “pervasive concern” affecting far greater number of women and adolescent girls than reported cases suggest.

“More than 2 in 5 never tell anyone of this abuse. Adolescent girls 15-19 years are disproportionately affected and even less likely to report the crime to police. Most assailants of this violence are known to their victims, as partners, family members or friends. Stranger-perpetrated sexual violence against women and adolescents is less common,” the analysis found.

The study suggests that only 5% adolescents reported the perpetrator to be a stranger. It states that since in most cases the perpetrator is a known person, prevention strategies need to focus on “potential perpetrators”. It is emphasised that mobility restrictions on girls out of fear of strangers will not work as a preventive measure. “This prevalence was calculated for the population of all women aged 15-49 years, and by age category,” Dr Raj said.

Vijayakant’s two cows go missing

Complaints about missing people are an everyday affair for them, but missing cows must have surprised the Chennai police.

Police on Friday received a complaint that two cows from DMDK chief Vijayakant’s house in Poonamallee have gone missing. Police have launched a search for the bovines.

Three cows belonging to the family were stabled at the actor-turned politician’s under-construction house in Poonamallee.

Work on the DMDK chief ’s house at Kattupakkam in Poonamallee started two years ago but had been stopped recently. Apparao, a native of Andhra Pradesh, and his family stay at the place guarding the house and looking after the three cows.

On Thursday night, Apparao slept after tying the cows inside their shed.

Upon Friday morning, he woke up to find two cows missing. He and his family members searched for the cows in nearby areas thinking that the tethers might have been snapped. But they could not trace the animals. Later, they alerted the party officials.

DMDK secretary Sriram lodged a complaint at the Poonamallee police station seeking help to trace the cows.

Police suspect the two have been stolen. The family members forgot to lock the gate through which the miscreants could have entered the premises, police said. Apparao told the police that they did not hear any unusual noise at the night.

Police have collected CCTV footage from the locality.
