பரபரப்புகள் ஏதுமற்ற நம் பால்யத்தில் பண்டிகைகள் தொடங்கிவிட்டாலே புத்தாடை, பலகாரங்களைப் போலவே வாழ்த்து அட்டைகளும் விற்றுத் தீர்க்கும். ஆடை வாங்கக்கூட அத்தனை யோசிக்க மாட்டார்கள். ஆனால் மனம் விரும்பிய வடிவத்தில் வாழ்த்து அட்டை கிடைக்கவில்லை என்றால் கொஞ்சம் சுணங்கித்தான் போவார்கள்.

தீபாவளியைப் போலவே பொங்கல் மற்றும் புத்தாண்டு வாழ்த்து அட்டைகளும் சக்கைப்போடு போடும். சுருள்முடி நெற்றியில் விழ, பெருமிதமாகச் சிரிக்கும் நடிகர் திலகம், கையில் சாட்டையுடன் பாட்டுப் பாடும் மக்கள் திலகம் தொடங்கி, ரஜினிகாந்த், கமலஹாசன் உருவப் படங்கள் அச்சிட்ட வாழ்த்து அட்டைகள் எல்லாம் கடைக்கு வந்த அன்றே காணாமல் போகும் மாயமும் நடந்திருக்கிறது.

இரு புறமும் செங்கரும்புகள் நிற்க, நடுவே பொங்கல் பானையுடன் மாடுகள் இருக்கும் வாழ்த்து அட்டையே பொங்கல் திருநாளின் மகத்துவத்தையும் மகிழ்ச்சியையும் சொல்லிவிடும். புத்தாண்டு வாழ்த்து அட்டைகளில் மலர்ந்து சிரிக்கும் ரோஜாக்களையும் குழந்தைகளையும் பார்க்கலாம்.

இப்படித் தேடித் தேடி அட்டைகள் வாங்கி, பின்பக்கம் தங்கள் கைப்பட நாலு வார்த்தை எழுதி, அடியில் வீட்டில் இருக்கிறவர்களின் பெயர்களை எல்லாம் வரிசையாகப் பட்டியலிட்டு, மறக்காமல் ஸ்டாம்ப் ஒட்டி, தபால்பெட்டியில் போட்டுவிட்டுத் திரும்பும்போது மனம் முழுக்கப் பரவுகிற மகிழ்ச்சி இருக்கிறதே அதை வார்த்தைகளில் விவரித்துவிட முடியாது. அதுவும் இளவட்டங்கள் தங்கள் முறைப்பெண் இருக்கும் வீட்டுக்கு வாழ்த்துச் செய்தியோடு, காதல் செய்தியையும் இலைமறை காய்மறையாக அனுப்புகிற வைபவமும் அரங்கேறும். பண்டிகைக்கு ஒரு வாரம் இருக்கும்போதே தபால்காரரின் சைக்கிள் மணி நம் வீட்டு வாசலில் ஒலிக்கிறதா, யாராவது வாழ்த்து அட்டை அனுப்பியிருக்கிறார்களா என்று காத்திருப்பதிலும் ஒரு சுகம் இருக்கத்தான் செய்தது. விஞ்ஞான வளர்ச்சி பெருகப் பெருக, வாழ்த்து அட்டைகள் அனுப்புவது குறைந்துவிட்டது.

'டேய் மாமா வீட்டுக்கும் பெரியம்மா வீட்டுக்கும் கார்டு போடணும்டா' என்று சொல்கிற பெரியவர்களும் அருகிவருகிறார்கள். வீட்டுக்கு வீடு தொலைபேசி வந்த பிறகு தொலைபேசியில் சம்பிரதாயத்துக்கு வாழ்த்து சொல்வதோடு நின்றுவிட்டோம். அதுவும் ஆளுக்கு இரண்டு செல்போன் என்ற நிலை வந்ததும், 'ஹாப்பி திவாலி'என்று குழுச் செய்தி அனுப்பிவிட்டு வேறு வேலை பார்க்கக் கிளம்பிவிடுகிறோம்.

பண்டிகை தினத்தில் குறுஞ்செய்திகள் அனுப்பினால் அதிகமாகப் பணம் செலவாகும் என்று நான்கு நாட்கள் முன்னதாகவே குறுஞ்செய்தி அனுப்புகிற கனவான்களும் சீமாட்டிகளும் இருக்கிறார்கள். அனுப்புகிறவருக்கும் மகிழ்ச்சி இல்லை, வாழ்த்துச் செய்தியைப் படிக்கிறவருக்கும் புன்னகை இல்லை. வாழ்வின் சின்னச் சின்ன சுவாரஸ்யங்களையும் ஆனந்தங்களையும்கூடத் தொலைத்துவிட்டோம் என்பதே புரியாமல், வாழ்த்துகளைச் சொல்லித் திரிகிறோம். இரண்டு இயந்திரங்களுக்கு இடையே பரிமாறப்படுகிற தகவல்கள்கூட மனித மனங்களுக்கு நடுவே நிகழ்வதில்லை.

தபால்காரரிடம் இருந்து வாழ்த்து அட்டையைப் பிடுங்காத குறையாக வாங்கிக் கொண்டு வந்து, யாரெல்லாம் அனுப்பியிருக்கிறார்கள், யார் பெயரையெல்லாம் எழுதியிருக்கிறார்கள் என்று பரபரப்புடன் பார்க்கிற சுகத்தை இந்தத் தலைமுறை அனுபவித்திருக்கிறதா? பிறந்த வீட்டில் இருந்து வந்த அட்டையைப் படிக்க முடியாமல் மகிழ்ச்சியில் கண்கள் பளபளக்க எத்தனை பெண்கள் நின்றிருப்பார்கள்?

விடுமுறை விண்ணப்பம் தவிர வேறு எதற்கும் பேனா மூடியைத் திறக்காத இந்தத் தலைமுறை எதை மகிழ்ச்சி எனக் கொண்டாடுகிறது? அடித்துப் பிடித்து சொகுசுப் பேருந்தில் டிக்கெட் எடுத்துப் பெரிய பெரிய கடைகளில் வாங்கிய இனிப்புகளை அள்ளிக்கொண்டுச் செல்வதிலேயே பண்டிகை முழுமை பெற்றுவிட்டதாக நினைத்துக்கொண்டிருக்கிறது.

உண்மையில் இதுவா கொண்டாட்டம்? இதுதானா மகிழ்ச்சி? ஒரு கிலோ இனிப்பைவிட ஒரு வரி வாழ்த்து உங்கள் மனதை அடுத்தவருக்குப் புரியவைத்துவிடாதா? உங்கள் கையெழுத்தின் நெளிவில் உங்கள் நேசம் புரிந்துகொள்ளப்படாதா? சென்னை போன்ற பெருநகரங்களில் மட்டுமல்ல, தமிழகத்தின் கிராமங்களிலும் இதே நிலைதான்.

"என் சின்ன வயசுல நிறையப் பேருக்கு வாழ்த்து அட்டை அனுப்பியிருக்கேன். சில சமயம் அட்டை வாங்கக் கையில காசு இருக்காது. நானே தபால் கார்டுல படம் வரைஞ்சு அனுப்பியிருக்கேன். இப்போ சிலர் போன்ல வாழ்த்துச் சொல்றாங்க. இன்னும் சிலர் ஒரு மெசேஜ் அனுப்பிடறாங்க. என்ன பண்றது? காலத்துக்கு ஏத்த மாதிரி எல்லாமே மாறிடுச்சு. அதுக்கேத்த மாதிரி சந்தோஷமும் குறைஞ்சுடுச்சு" என்று வருத்தத்துடன் சொல்கிறார் வேலூரைச் சேர்ந்த அரங்கநாதன்.

திண்டுக்கல் சுப்பிரமணியத்தின் அனுபவமும் அதையேதான் ஆமோதிக்கிறது. "பண்டிகை வந்தா போதும் நான் என் தம்பிகளோட சேர்ந்து வாழ்த்து அட்டை வாங்கக் கிளம்பிடுவேன். யாருக்கெல்லாம் வாழ்த்து அனுப்பணும்னு அம்மா சொல்லுவாங்க. யாருக்கு அனுப்புறோமோ அதுக்கு ஏத்த மாதிரி வாழ்த்து எழுதுவோம். என் தம்பியோட கையெழுத்து அழகா இருக்கும். அதனால அவன்தான் நிறைய அட்டையில எழுதுவான். பொங்கல், தீபாவளி வந்தா சொந்தங்களுக்கு வாழ்த்து அட்டை அனுப்புவோம்னு சொன்னா என் மகன் ஆச்சரியமா பார்க்கிறான். அவங்களுக்கு போன்ல சொல்றது மட்டும்தான் வாழ்த்து. என்ன பண்றது? இந்தத் தலைமுறை மகிழ்ச்சிகளோட அறிமுகம் இல்லாமதான் வளருது" என்று நிதர்சனத்தைச் சொல்கிறார் சுப்பிரமணி.

இந்தத் தலைமுறைக்கு எதுவும் வாய்க்கவில்லை என்று சொல்வதைவிட அதற்கான வாய்ப்பை நாம் ஏற்படுத்தித் தரலாமே. நேரமில்லை என்று சப்பைக்கட்டுவதை விட்டுவிட்டு நாமே நம் நண்பர்களுக்கும் உறவுகளுக்கும் வாழ்த்து அட்டை அனுப்பினால், அந்த அன்பு நிச்சயம் எதிரொலிக்கத்தான் செய்யும். இதோ தீபாவளி வந்துவிட்டது. யாருக்கெல்லாம் வாழ்த்துச் சொன்னோம்? இன்னும் யாரையெல்லாம் தொடர்பு கொண்டு பேசப்போகிறோம்? நம் வாழ்த்துச் செய்தியை எதிர்பார்த்து எத்தனை பேர் காத்திருக்கிறார்கள்? நம் வாழ்த்து, எத்தனை மனங்களை மலரச் செய்யப்போகிறது, எத்தனை முகங்களைப் புன்னகையால் முகிழ்க்கப் போகிறது? இந்தக் கேள்விகளுக்கான பதிலில்தான் பண்டிகையின் கொண்டாட்டமும் உறவின் மகத்துவமும் அடங்கியிருக்கிறது.

சென்னை பல்கலையில் அறிமுகமாகிறது ஹிந்தி
நாடு முழுவதும், அனைவருக்கும் ஹிந்தி மொழி தெரியும் வகையில், பல்வேறு திட்டங்களை மத்திய அரசு அறிமுகப்படுத்தி வருகிறது. மத்திய அரசின் அனைத்து அறிவிப்புகளும், அனைத்து மாநிலங்களிலும், ஆங்கிலத்துடன், கட்டாயமாக, ஹிந்தியிலும் இடம் பெற உத்தரவிடப்பட்டு, அமலுக்கு வந்துள்ளது.

Don’t retain students’ original documents: DC

K.G. Jagadeesha warns private institutions of filing criminal cases if they do not give them back

Deputy Commissioner K.G. Jagadeesha has warned of filing criminal cases against private educational institutions if they fail to return all original documents to students when they leave the institution concerned.

He said the institutions have no right to retain the original documents of students, including marks cards and other certificates.

However, many instances have come to light wherein institutions refused to return documents in the event a student discontinues a course midway. They demand payment of full fee to return such documents.

Mr. Jagadeesha was speaking at a review meeting chaired by Karnataka State Commission for Protection of Child Rights Chairperson Kripa Alva here recently.

The DC directed institutions to return original documents, if any they have retained, within one month to students.

After a month, officials concerned would visit every private institution and conduct an inspection. If they find any institution retaining original documents, criminal proceedings would be initiated, Mr. Jagadeesha said.

Meanwhile, Ms. Alva asked the district administration to ensure every private education institution and hostel in the district would have a student-friendly environment.

The administration should periodically conduct inspections about infrastructure in hostels, she said.

Ms. Alva said that if a student desires not to continue studies in a particular institution, such institution should pave the way for the student’s smooth exit. Instead of demanding the full fee for the course/ term/ year, the institution should refund fees already collected, she said.

Tiruchi - Bangkok flight service takes off

Thai AirAsia to operate four services a week in this sector

Tiruchi is now directly connected with Bangkok - one among the top tourist destinations in the world with foreign carrier Thai AirAsia launching service in the Tiruchi – Bangkok- Tiruchi sector.

Bangkok has become the sixth overseas destination to have direct links with Tiruchi after Colombo, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Dubai and Sharjah following the introduction of flight service to the Thai capital from September 29 onwards.

The operation of new service to the prominent South East Asian destination would further spur overseas passenger traffic movements from and to Tiruchi. A water salute was given when the first Thai AirAsia flight from Bangkok touched down at the Tiruchi international airport in the early hours on September 29.

The airline will operate four services in a week from Tiruchi to Bangkok – on Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday with the flights departing in the early hours from here.

Airline sources said the new service to Bangkok would be operated using A-320 Neo type aircraft with passenger seating capacity exceeding a little over 180.

The first flight left for Bangkok in the early hours of Friday with more than 160 passengers, while on Sunday the number of travellers to the Thai capital from here was more than 140, said the sources.

The new service would also enable travellers to fly to other domestic destinations in Thailand such as Phuket, Krabi and Chiang Mai besides to other overseas destinations such as Ho Chi Minh and Macau.

Although the airline has not begun to lift cargo, it might start lifting freight in the coming months, said the sources. Air Asia is on top with respect to operating number of overseas flights from Tiruchi, followed by Air India Express, Malindo Air, Sri Lankan Airlines and Tiger Airways.

The Tiruchi international airport today has the highest number of daily flights to Kuala Lumpur among non-metro international airports in the Southern region, said the sources.

Reconsider compassionate appointments: HC to govt.

Says procedure against Constitution, violates reservation norms

Observing that compassionate appointments are against constitutional requirements and do not follow the rule of reservation, the Madras High Court has suggested that the government reconsider the concept and restrict such appointments only to genuine cases.

Dismissing a plea from a petitioner, who sought a direction to the authorities concerned to consider his representation for a job under compassionate grounds, Justice S.M. Subramaniam observed that the concept of compassionate appointment was an exception; it had to be strictly construed and confined only to the purpose.

‘Can’t claims as a right’

“The philosophy behind giving compassionate appointment is just to help the family in harness to get over the immediate crisis due to the loss of the sole breadwinner. This category of appointment cannot be claimed as a matter of right after lapse of the period, when the crisis is over,” he noted.

The petitioner L. Suresh, in his plea, sought for a direction to officials to appoint him as scavenger or give any suitable post on compassionate grounds, as his father died while in service.

However, petitioner’s plea was rejected on the ground that his mother (the deceased employee’s wife) was also employed in the same office.

Name and fame won’t suffice for political success: Rajini

Maybe Kamal knows what it takes, but he won’t tell me, says the film star, evoking no response from his long-time associate in the film world

Tamil film superstar Rajinikanth, who some months ago hinted about his impending entry into politics, on Sunday used a public function to subtly take on his potential political rival from the film industry, Kamal Haasan.

Participating in the function organised to inaugurate thespian Sivaji Ganesan’s memorial at Adyar, Rajinikanth suggested that now that his long-time associate in the film world, Kamal Haasan, has decided to make a foray into politics, the latter would not share his thoughts on politics with him.

“Sivaji Ganesan sir had taught his juniors in the field a lesson. He had contested in elections from his home constituency, and lost. But this was not a humiliation for him, but [it was] for the electors there. This made all of us realise that for one to be successful in politics, mere name and fame from being in the film industry was not enough,” the actor said, adding, “There is something more needed to be successful in politics, and only the public knows what it is.”

Politics and success

In a lighter vein, Rajinikanth said that he did not know what it was that was needed to be successful in politics. “Maybe Kamal knows. However, even if he knows, he won’t tell me. He might have told me if I had asked him two months ago (when Kamal Haasan had not made his political intentions clear),” he said. Kamal Haasan was also on stage.

While this was met with loud cheers, Rajinikanth continued, “Even if I go and tell him — Anna [brother], I’m your younger brother, please tell me — he will tell me to join him, and that he will then explain.”

In his tribute to Sivaji Ganesan, Mr. Rajinikanth said that at a time when how one should act was predefined, Sivaji Ganesan created a revolution as far as all aspects of acting were concerned.

‘No one could stop me’

When his turn to address the gathering came, Kamal Haasan, a self-professed fan of Sivaji Ganesan, did not respond to Rajinikanth’s comments, and instead said that no one could have stopped him from attending the event.

The actor has been critical of the AIADMK government, and over the past few weeks, has been underscoring the need to fight corruption.

“If I had not been an actor, I would have still been a fan of Sivaji Ganesan and I would have been here, waiting to see the inauguration of the memorial,” he said.

Declaring that no one was being forced to respect Sivaji Ganesan, Mr. Haasan stated that Tamilians were not thankless people, and that the actor would always be remembered in the State. “There are many who have followed in his footsteps. I am here as a fan of his and not as an artist,” he said.

Earlier, Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan, who were among the audience, were invited by Fisheries Minister D. Jayakumar to come on to the stage. The actors appeared reluctant, but later shared the dais with Deputy Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam.

Mr. Jayakumar, who has been highly critical of Kamal Haasan in view of the latter’s attacks on the government, presented a shawl to the actor on the occasion, while Mr. Panneerselvam did the honours for Rajinikanth.

No more reservation charts

Initiative aims at saving paper, keeping coaches tidy

The Railways, as part of a Go Green policy, has decided to stop pasting reservation charts on train coaches. It will be implemented on a trial basis for three months.

A senior official of the Chennai division of Southern Railway, said the initiative was a pilot project to keep the coaches neat and clean and to do away with defacing them with materials such as paste. “Passengers whose tickets are confirmed or in the waiting list or last-minute confirmations, are already receiving SMS of the seating arrangements. So there will not be any difficulty in identifying the coaches,” added the official.

The official further said that the measure would also save paper. The trial would be implemented in five cities — Chennai, New Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai and Bengaluru.

However, a section of train passengers’ associations and consumer activists voiced their displeasure with the concept, fearing that it could cause a lot of confusion.

T. Sadagopan, a consumer activist from Pattabhiram, said that the plan to stop pasting reservation charts would create confusion, especially among senior citizens who may not be tech-savvy. Though the passengers are receiving SMS about the ticket details, the chart is still necessary, he added.

The Indian Railway had in March last year, planned to do away with the reservation charts under the Go Green policy, but had to drop it after negative feedback.
