சவுதி அரேபியாவில் கடந்த முப்பது ஆண்டுகளுக்கும் மேலாக வாகனம் ஓட்டுவதற்கு பெண்களுக்கு தடை விதிக்கப்பட்டிருந்தது. இஸ்லாமிய மதக் கோட்பாட்டின் அடிப்படையில், இந்தத் தடை விதிக்கப்பட்டிருந்ததாகத் தெரிகிறது. இதனிடையே, சவுதியின் புதிய மன்னராக பொறுப்பேற்ற முகமது சல்மான், பெண்கள், வாகனம் ஓட்டுவதற்கு விதிக்கப்பட்டிருந்த தடையை கடந்த செப்டம்பர் மாதம் நீக்கினார். மன்னரின் இந்த நடவடிக்கைக்கு பெரும்பாலான உலக நாடுகள் பாராட்டு தெரிவித்தன.

‘சங்கரம்’ என்றால் ‘நகரத் தொடங்குதல்’ என்று அர்த்தம். உத்தராயன சங்கராந்தி என்பது, வருடந்தோறும் தை மாதம் முதல் நாளன்று, சூரியனானது தென் திசையில் இருந்து வட திசை நோக்கித் தன் பயணத்தைத் தொடக்குகிறது. இதையே உத்தராயன புண்ய காலம் என்கிறார்கள் ஆச்சார்யர்கள்!

வீடு விலை குறைகிறதா?

உலக அளவிலான நெருக்கடி நிலையில் இந்திய ரியல் எஸ்டேட் பெரும் தேக்கத்தைச் சந்தித்தது. ஆனால், சென்னை ரியல் எஸ்டேட்டைப் பொறுத்தவரை மற்ற இந்திய நகரங்களுடன் ஒப்பிடும்போது மிகப் பெரிய தேக்கத்தை அடையாமல் தாக்குப் பிடித்தது. ஆனால், சில ஆண்டுகளாக சென்னை ரியல் எஸ்டேட்டும் தேக்கமடைந்து வருவதாக இத்துறை தொடர்பான ஆய்வு அறிக்கைகள் கூறுகின்றன. இந்நிலையில் சமீபத்தில் வெளியான நைட்பிராங்க் ரியல் எஸ்டேட் ஆய்வு அறிக்கை 2011 ரியல் எஸ்டேட் வளர்ச்சியுடன் ஒப்பிடும்போது சென்னையில் வீட்டு விற்பனை 56 சதவீதம் வீழ்ச்சியடைந்துள்ளதாக மதிப்பிட்டுள்ளது.

இந்திய ரியல் எஸ்டேட் தொடர்பாக ஆண்டுதோறும் ஆய்வுகள் மேற்கொண்டு வரும் இந்நிறுவனத்தின் அறிக்கை கடந்த வாரம் வெளியானது. முடிவடைந்த 2017 அரையாண்டில் இந்திய அளவில் ரியல் எஸ்டேட் எப்படி இருந்தது என்பதை இந்த அறிக்கை ஆய்வுசெய்கிறது. இந்திய அளவிலும் வீட்டு விற்பனை கடந்த ஆண்டுடன் ஒப்பிடும்போது சரிவடைந்துள்ளது. 2,44,686 ஆக இருந்த வீட்டு விற்பனை 2017-ல் 2,28,072 ஆகச் சரிவடைந்துள்ளது. அதுபோல புதிய வீட்டுத் திட்டங்கள் 1,75,822லிருந்து 1,03,570 ஆகச் சரிவடைந்துள்ளது.

இந்திய அளவில் கடந்த 7 ஆண்டுகளில் இல்லாத அளவுக்கான மோசமாக 38 சதவீதம் சரிவடைந்துள்ளது. புதிய வீடுகள் கட்டப்படுவதும் 78 சதவீதம் சரிவடைந்துள்ளது. இந்திய நகரங்களில் ஹைதராபாத்தில் 2017-ம் ஆண்டின் இரண்டாவது அரையாண்டில் வெறும் 940 வீடுகளே விற்பனையாகியுள்ளன. இந்திய அளவில் இது மோசமான வீழ்ச்சி. அதற்கடுத்த இடத்தில் அகமதாபாத் இருக்கிறது. அங்கு 2,916 வீடுகள் விற்பனையாகியுள்ளன. 3,200 வீடுகள் விற்பனையுடன் சென்னை அடுத்த நிலையில் இருக்கிறது. கடந்த அரையாண்டில் வீட்டு விற்பனையில் பெங்களூரு 8,384 வீடுகளுடன் முதலிடத்தில் உள்ளது, இந்தியாவின் வர்த்தகத் தலைநகரான மும்பை 7,490 வீடுகளுடன் இரண்டாம் இடத்திலுள்ளது.

சென்னையைப் பொறுத்தவரை கடந்த 2017-ன் முதல் அரையாண்டைவிடவும் இரண்டாம் அரையாண்டு தேக்கமடைந்துள்ளது. இந்த ஆண்டில் ரியல் எஸ்டேட் ஒழுங்குமுறைச் சட்டம் அமல்படுத்தப்பட்டது, மணல் தட்டுப்பாடு, அறிமுகப்படுத்தப்பட்ட ஜி.எஸ்.டி., 2016-ன் இறுதியில் மத்திய அரசு மேற்கொண்ட பணமதிப்பு நீக்க நடவடிக்கை இவை எல்லாம் 2017-ன் ரியல் எஸ்டேட்டைப் பெரும் பாதிப்புக்கு உள்ளாக்கின.

2017-ல் முதல் அரையாண்டின் புதிய வீட்டுப் பணிகள் தொடக்கம் 6,035. இது 2016-ன் முதல் அரையாண்டைவிட 220 எண்ணிக்கை கூடுதல். ஆனால், 2017-ன் இரண்டாம் அரையாண்டின் புதிய வீட்டுப் பணிகள் தொடக்கம், 2016-ன் இரண்டாம் அரையாண்டைவிட 1,600 எண்ணிக்கை குறைவு. இதிலிருந்து 2017-ன் தேக்க நிலையைப் புரிந்துகொள்ள முடியும். அதுபோல சென்னையின் ரியல் எஸ்டேட் வளம் மிக்கப் பகுதியான தென்சென்னைப் பகுதியில் புதிய வீட்டுப் பணிகள் தொடக்கம் 19 சதவீதம் சரிவடைந்துள்ளது. அதுவே மேற்குச் சென்னையில் 47 சதவீதமாகச் சரிவடைந்துள்ளது.

2017-ன் வீட்டு விற்பனை 2016-ம் ஆண்டின் வீட்டு விற்பனையைவிட 14 சதவீதம் சரிவடைந்துள்ளது. ஆனால், 2017-ன் முதல் அரையாண்டு வீட்டு விற்பனை 2016-ன் இரண்டாம் அரையாண்டைவிடக் கூடுதலாகத்தான் இருந்தது. அதே நேரம், 2017-ன் இரண்டாம் அரையாண்டின் விற்பனை இதுவரையில்லாத வகையில் வீழ்ச்சியடைந்துள்ளது. அதுபோல ஒவ்வொரு பகுதிக்கென நிலவும் சந்தை விலையிலும் 3 சதவீதம் அளவில் வீழ்ச்சி அடைந்துள்ளதாகவும் இந்த அறிக்கை தெரிவிக்கிறது. இந்த விலை வீழ்ச்சி வரும் ஆண்டில் வீடு வாங்குபவர்களுக்குச் சாதகமாக அமையும் எனவும் எதிர்பார்க்கப்படுகிறது.

WhatsApp becomes ‘outdated’ for many Indian users

The chat app became obsolete for many users as of midnight on 13 January.



The app also claims that the user is on a beta testing program and offers the user an option to leave the program.

Earlier only some users reported that their WhatsApp was facing some kind of issue around the first week of January, but the problem seems to have spread to more users from the midnight of 13 January. Many users of the chat app have taken to social media platforms to express their frustration.

The users claim that WhatsApp is asking them to update the app to continue using the service. The option to update the app comes after opening the app and the message that they see on their screen says 'This version of WhatsApp became obsolete 0n 13 Jan, 2018. Please go to the Google Play Store and download the latest version.' But, according to users, even after going to the Google Play Store, they are not able to download the latest version of the app, as there are no updates available. The app also claims that the user is on a beta testing program and offers the user an option to leave the program.

Tapping the opt-out button doesn't do anything, according to various users on Twitter. The problem seems to exist mostly for Xiaomi smartphone users as those who are complaining appear to be using Xiaomi devices. Some claim that the app is not working even after re-installing it. But one cannot be absolutely sure if it is only in Xiaomi phones or other phones as well.

According to a report on Techook.com WhatsApp has acknowledged the problem faced by its users and said that the problem is being fixed. WhatsApp has issued a statement which read, "It was a problem with how our app is distributed, which is not under our control”.

The Facebook owned app had also suffered a global outage on New Year's eve and the service was restored only after a few hours later.

Reliance Jio is world's 9th largest mobile publisher in non game revenue category

Reliance Jio is the 9th biggest mobile publisher in non-game revenue category worldwide in 2017, the only Indian company in the top 10 list, states the Sensor Tower Store Intelligence report.

A mobile publisher is a company that owns and runs a mobile website or app that dedicates space to display advertising in exchange for money.

Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited or Reliance Jio is an LTE mobile network operator and a wholly owned by Mukesh Ambai's Reliance Industries.

Sensor Tower Store Intelligence report, brought out by San Francisco-based Sensor Tower, presents top mobile apps, games and publishers worldwide in 2017. The report states that mobile users spent nearly $60 billion in apps during 2017 on the App Store and Google Play.

Reliance Jio is the only Indian company mentioned in the list. The company, which was founded in 2007, disrupted Indian telecom market by rolling out 4G data scheme during the summer of 2017.

The Sensor Tower data states that Tencent is the world's top earning mobile publisher in terms of both non-game and mobile game revenue in 2017, with the aforementioned Tencent Video and Honor of Kings as its standout apps in those categories.

Sensor Tower helps developers and companies through its App Store Optimisation (ASO) and Store Intelligence products to get vital keyword and competitive data so that they can improve visibility, performance and ROI.

As per a Trai report released on Friday, Jio has subscriber base of 15.2 crore at a time when India's total mobile subscriber base plummeted from 120 crore in October 2017.

When contacted by DH, Reliance Jio officials didn't comment on the development.

Bhogi+fog effect: Pollution levels higher than last year in Chennai

Chennai: The Bhogi celebrations by Chennaiites increased the pollution in several pockets of the city on Saturday. Pollution levels in Valasaravakkam, Thiru-Vi-Ka Nagar, Manali, Ambattur, Kodambakkam and Anna Nagar increased to an all-time high level bringing acute breathing problems to local residents.


The 24-hour ambient air quality monitoring 15 zones of Greater Chennai Corporation by Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board (TNPCB) on Saturday showed that almost all localities witnessed a sharp increase in Respirable Suspended Particulate Matter (RSPM) than last year on Bhogi day.

Valasaravakkam topped the list with pollutant level of 386 RSPM followed by Thiru-Vi-Ka Nagar (353), Ambattur (343), Kodambakkam (339) and Anna Nagar (270). However, last year Ambattur recorded highest RSPM of 306, while Thiru-Vi-Ka Nagar, Manali, Royapuram and Valasaravakkam recorded 276, 237, 234 and 234 of RSPM.

Only two stations - Shozhinganallur and Alandur - that witnessed 185 RSPM and 135 RSPM last year had the pollution levels lower than last year. This year Shozhinganallur witnessed 141 RSPM and Alandur saw 135 RSPM of pollutants.
North Chennai usually witnesses higher levels of pollution, but this year South Chennai suffered. “The motorists got camouflaged in the smog and it was difficult to spot the vehicles without their headlights on. I almost escaped an accident due to poor visibility, as it was difficult to ride surrounded by thick smog,” said S. Ilavarasan, a resident of Tambaram.

Though the overall status of gaseous pollutants- sulphur dioxide and nitrogen dioxide was found to be well within the ‘prescribed standards’ of 80 micrograms per cubic meter, according to TNPCB, real-time Air Quality Index (AQI) showed severe pollution levels reaching PM 2.5 early morning. After around 9.30 am, the smog got cleared off, but the pollution levels remained stable until late evening.
Though TNPCB officials claimed to have carried awareness drive to educate people on pollution-related problems through pamphlet distribution and announcements, nothing seems to have changed on the ground as people were still seen burning plastic waste in several localities.

“I could only smell smoke all over the city while I came out for a morning walk. We have been practising these cultural practices for years and it did not cause such problems, but the issue is concerning now,” said Munna Khan, a resident of Valasaravakkam.
