Family members of people who had lost their lives, or were crippled, in the suicide bomb attack that killed former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi have sought permission to meet governor Banwarilal Purohit to register their protest against the state government’s decision to release the seven life convicts in the case.

“We have sent a letter to the authorities of Raj Bhavan, seeking appointment to meet governor Banwarilal Purohit to air our views regarding the cabinet’s decision to release the seven convicts. We will strongly oppose their release,” said Abbash, coordinator of the victims’ families. He was son of Samdhani Begum, who was killed in the suicide bomb blast. Begam, a widow, was president of the South Chengalpet Mahila Congress.

3 doctors, lawyer booked for forgery

The city police have registered a case against six people, including three doctors and a lawyer, for forging documents to get bail for a local resident, who was arrested in July for selling narcotics.

M Zackariya, a lawyer, Peer Mohammed, office assistant at the Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital (CMCH), Dr TCR Ramakrishnan, who runs a clinic at New Siddhapudur, Dr S Usha, senior civil surgeon at CMCH, Dr Mansoor at CMCH and Mohammed Shahib, elder brother of the accused Mohammed Shikas, have been booked.

Kattoor police had arrested D Joy Immanuel, 28, a native of Bengaluru, Mohammed Shikas, 22, of Saibaba Colony, Jilbykhan Ali, 24, of Kuniyamuthur and Mohammed Anaf, 22, of Ukkadam on July 24 for selling opioid drugs in Coimbatore. Police also seized six bottles (each 2ml) of pethidine hydrochloride and four bottles (each 2ml) of diazepam injections from the four-member gang. They were remanded in judicial custody.

Meanwhile Zackariya, who appeared on behalf of Mohammed Shikas, filed a petition seeking conditional bail. It said that Shikas was an epilepsy patient, whose marriage was fixed. The lawyer submitted medical certificates from a doctor and also a marriage invitation. However, suspecting foul play, judge C Sanjai Baba ordered an investigation about the veracity of the medical certificates and marriage invitation. The investigations revealed that Peer Mohammed had fabricated the doctors’ certificate and the marriage invitation .

Power supply to be suspended for maintenance

‘Surgical Strike Day’ in univs not must: Centre

A UGC circular to higher educational institutes to observe the ‘Surgical Strike Day’ on September 29 stoked a political row on Friday with the opposition accusing BJP of politicising the issue and the government  saying that it’s all about “patriotism and not politics”.

“Where is politics? This is not politics but patriotism. Students needed to be informed about the surgical strikes, and what military and civil works soldiers do. The ministry issued a programme only on the basis of suggestions received from teachers and many students,” HRD minister Prakash Javadekar said.

He said it was not mandatory for universities and institutions to celebrate the 2016 cross-border raid by commandos on Pak terror pads. “An advisory and not a direction has been issued to universities.”

The UGC had on Wednesday written to the institutions to observe “Surgical Strike Day” with a request that the “activities undertaken may be uploaded on the university activity monitoring portal on UGC website”.

Will Centre celebrate Surgical Strike Day for demonetization, asks Sibal  Senior Congress leader Kapil Sibal sarcastically asked whether the UGC would “dare” to celebrate November 8, the day when demonetization was announced in 2016, as ‘surgical strike day’ as well.

“UGC directs VCs of all universities to celebrate 29th September as Surgical Strike Day. Is this meant to educate or to serve the BJP’s political ends?” Sibal tweeted. “Will UGC dare celebrate 8th November as Surgical Strike Day depriving the poor of their livelihood? This another jumla!” the former HRD minister said.

In UGC’s communication, institutions have been asked to invite ex-servicemen to sensitize the students about the sacrifices made by the armed forces in protecting the borders.

The letter also stated that “students shall pledge their support for the armed forces by writing letters and cards, which may be produced in both physical and digital format. These letters and cards will be shared with PRO, defence and PIB for publicity across various media, including social media”.

Reacting to the UGC’e letter, M Jagadesh Kumar, vice chancellor, JNU said: “Observation of ‘surgical strike day’ on September 29, 2018 by universities is a welcome move to pay our tributes to the armed forces. JNU is proud of our defence forces as the officers who graduate from India’s six major defence institutes are our alumni.”

வழக்கமாக ஏடிஎம் இயந்திரத்தில் கார்டை நுழைத்தால் பணம் வெளியே வரும். ஆனால் புனேவில் கொழுக்கட்டை வெளியே வருகிறது.

நாடு முழுவதும் கடந்த வாரத்தில் விநாயகர் சதுர்த்தி உற்சாகமாகக் கொண்டாடப்பட்டது. மகாராஷ்டிர மாநிலம், புனே சஹாகர் நகரைச் சேர்ந்த சஞ்சீவ் குல்கர்னி இதில் புதுமையைப் புகுத்த நினைத்தார்

ஏடிஎம் போன்ற இயந்திரத்தை உருவாக்கிய அவர், அதில் நுழைக்கப் பிரத்யேக கார்டுகளையும் உருவாக்கினார். கார்டை நுழைத்தால் கொழுக்கட்டை வருவது போல இயந்திரத்தை வடிவமைத்தார்.

அதில் எண்களுக்குப் பதிலாக மன்னிப்பு, அன்பு, அமைதி, அறிவு, பக்தி, சேவை ஆகிய வார்த்தைகள் பொறிக்கப்பட்டன.

இதுகுறித்துப் பேசிய குல்கர்னி, ''கலாச்சாரத்தையும் தொழில்நுட்பத்தையும் ஒருங்கே கொண்டுசெல்ல மேற்கொள்ளப்பட்டுள்ள முயற்சி இது'' என்றார்.

இந்த இயந்திரத்துக்கு ஏடிஎம் (Any Time Modak- எந்த நேரமும் கொழுக்கட்டை) என்றே பெயரிடப்பட்டுள்ளது.

வியாழக்கிழமை காலை மும்பையில் இருந்து ஜெய்ப்பூர் சென்றுகொண்டிருந்த ஜெட் ஏர்வேஸ் விமானத்தில் பயணித்த சுமார் 30 பயணிகளுக்கு காது, மூக்கில் இருந்து ரத்தம் வழிந்ததால் பதற்றம் ஏற்பட்டது.

கேபின் அழுத்தத்தை முறைப்படுத்தாததால் இந்தப் பிரச்சினை ஏற்பட்டுள்ளது. இதனையடுத்து விமானம் மீண்டும் மும்பைக்கே திருப்பி அனுப்பப்பட்டது.


இதுகுறித்துப் பேசிய விமானப் போக்குவரத்து இயக்குநரக அதிகாரி, ''மும்பையில் இருந்து ஜெய்ப்பூர் சென்றுகொண்டிருந்த ஜெட் ஏர்வேஸ் பி 737 விமானம் 9 டபிள்யூ 697, இன்று (வியாழக்கிழமை) மும்பைக்குத் திருப்பி அனுப்பப்பட்டது.

பயணத்தின்போது விமான அதிகாரிகள் குழு, கேபின் அழுத்தத்தைப் பராமரிக்கும் பொத்தானை அழுத்த மறந்துவிட்டது.

இதனால் சில பயணிகளுக்கு மூக்கில் இருந்து ரத்தம் வடிந்தது. விமானத்தில் மொத்தம் 166 பயணிகள் பயணித்தனர். அவர்களில் 30 பேருக்கு மூக்கில் ரத்தம் வெளியேறியது; சிலருக்கு காதில் ரத்தம் வடிந்தது. மற்றும் சிலர் தலைவலியால் அவதிப்பட்டனர்'' என்று தெரிவித்தார்.

பயணிகளுக்கு முதலுதவி

சம்பவத்தை ஜெட் ஏர்வேய்ஸ் உறுதி செய்துள்ளது. இதுகுறித்துப் பேசிய அதன் செய்தித் தொடர்பாளர், ''அனைத்துப் பயணிகளும் விமானத்தில் இருந்து இறக்கப்பட்டு விட்டனர். பாதிக்கப்பட்டவர்களுக்கு முதலுதவிப் பணிகள் நடைபெற்று வருகின்றன.

சம்மந்தப்பட்ட விமான அதிகாரிகள் குழுவின் மீது விரைவில் விசாரணை நடத்த உள்ளோம். பயணிகளுக்கு மாற்று விமானத்தை ஏற்பாடு செய்துவருகிறோம். சிரமத்துக்கு ஜெட் ஏர்வேஸ் வருந்துகிறது'' என்று தெரிவித்துள்ளார்.

முன்னாள் பிரதமர் ராஜீவ் காந்தி கொலை வழக்கில் சிறையில் உள்ள பேரறிவாளன் உள்ளிட்ட ஏழு பேரை விடுவிப்பது தொடர்பாக தமிழக அரசு முடிவு செய்யலாம் என உச்ச நீதிமன்றம் சமீபத்தில் உத்தரவிட்டது. இந்நிலையில், அந்தச் சம்பவத்தின் போது இறந்தவர்களின் குடும்பத்தினர் தாக்கல் செய்த மனு கடந்த திங்கள்கிழமை விசாரணைக்கு வந்தது. அப்போது, மனுவைத் திருத்தி, 3 வாரத்திற்குப் பிறகு புதிதாகத் தாக்கல் செய்ய நீதிபதிகள் உத்தரவிட்டனர்.

இந்நிலையில், சென்னை சேப்பாக்கத்தில் இன்று (வியாழக்கிழமை) செய்தியாளர்களைச் சந்தித்த பேரறிவாளன் தாயார் அற்புதம்மாள், “பாதிக்கப்பட்டவர்கள் ஒரு குழு போன்று செயல்படுகிறார்கள். இந்த வழக்கால் நானும் பேரறிவாளனும் தான் முதலில் பாதிக்கப்பட்டிருக்கிறோம். பாதிக்கப்பட்டோர் பட்டியலில் என் பெயரே இல்லை. எனக்கு அதுதான் வருத்தம். என் மகன் மற்றும் என்னுடைய வாழ்க்கையே போய்விட்டது.

ராஜீவ் காந்தி கொல்லப்பட்டது தாங்க முடியாத துயரம் என்பதை வெளிப்படுத்தியிருக்கிறோம். இந்த வழக்கில் விசாரணை நடத்தி உண்மையான குற்றவாளிகளைக் கண்டறிந்தார்களா? எங்களுக்குப் பொருளாதாரச் செழிப்பு இல்லை. இருந்தாலும், சட்ட ரீதியாகப் போராடுகிறோம்.

உண்மை குற்றவாளி யார் எனத் தெரியவில்லை என்று என் மகனே வழக்கு தொடுத்திருக்கிறான். என் மகன் வாங்கி தந்த 9 வோல்ட் பேட்டரி தான் பெல்ட் குண்டு செய்யப் பயன்பட்டது என்பதை இன்று வரை நிரூபிக்க முடியவில்லை. குண்டு தயாரித்தவர் இலங்கை அரசின் கட்டுப்பாட்டில் உள்ள டிக்சன். அவரை விசாரிக்க அனுமதியே கிடைக்கவில்லை. இந்த வழக்கால் நான் தான் முதலில் பாதிக்கப்பட்டவள். எழுவர் விடுதலையை எதிர்க்குமாறு தாங்கள் நிர்பந்திக்கப்படுவதாக பாதிக்கப்பட்ட சிலர் சொல்கின்றனர்” என அற்புதம்மாள் தெரிவித்தார்.
