A US woman was quarantined in an aeroplane bathroom for three hours after testing positive for Covid-19 halfway through a flight from Chicago to Iceland, according to media reports. Marisa Fotieo was on an Icelandair flight on December 19, en route to Switzerland with her brother and father. Fotieo said her throat began to hurt halfway through the trip so she went to the bathroom to perform a rapid Covid test which confirmed she was infected, WABCTV reported. Before the flight, Fotieo told CNN she took two PCR tests and about five rapid tests, all of which came back negative. But about an hour and a half into the flight, Fotieo started to feel a sore throat.
“The wheels started turning in my brain and I thought, ‘OK, I’m going to just go take a test,” Fotieo said. “Immediately, it came back positive. ” Foti- eo is fully vaccinated and has received the booster. When she got her results in the aeroplane bathroom, she said she started to panic. “I was nervous for my family. . . I was nervous for the other people on the plane. I was nervous for myself. ”
Fotieo ran into a flight attendant who calmed her down and told her she would try to rearrange seats so Fotieo could be seated alone. “When she came back, she told me she couldn’t find enough seating. I opted to stay in the bathroom because I did not want to be around others,” Fotieo said. A note was then put on the bathroom door saying it was out of service, and that was Fotieo’s new seat for the remainder of the flight. Fotieo and her family were the last ones to get off once the plane touched down in Iceland and she was shuttled to a hotel where she began her 10 days of quarantine.
