Ahmedabad : The Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSHSEB) approved a new rule mandating that students’ surnames be written at the end in general registers (GR) and school leaving certificates (LC) for classes 9 to 12. This move follows a request from the education board to the state education department, which has now officially granted approval. In June, the Samagra Shiksha office issued a circular implementing a similar format for classes 1 to 8. The change aimed to resolve discrepancies in student name formats across various documents such as Aadhaar cards and school records, particularly during the generation of unique student IDs. Previously, surnames were listed first in school records, which led to confusion and mismatches during verification processes. The updated rule is now applicable to all schools in Gujarat.
