சென்னையில் நிலம் வாங்கித்தருவதாக 40 கோடி ரூபாய் மோசடி செய்தவரை மூன்று ஆண்டுகளுக்குப் பிறகு போலீஸார் கைது செய்துள்ளனர். சாதாரண ஸ்கூல் பஸ் டிரைவராக இருந்தவர், போலீஸிடம் சிக்கும்போது சொந்தமாக ஹெலிகாப்டர், செயற்கைக்கோள் போன், வடமாநிலங்களில் கம்பெனி என வசதியுள்ள தொழிலதிபராக வலம் வந்தது விசாரணையில் தெரியவந்துள்ளது.

சென்னையை அடுத்த கேளம்பாக்கத்தைச் சேர்ந்தவர், வெங்கடரமணன். 57 வயதாகும் இவர், சில ஆண்டுகளுக்கு முன்புவரை அந்தப் பகுதியில் உள்ள தனியார் ஸ்கூல் ஒன்றில் பஸ் டிரைவராகப் பணியாற்றினார். இவரது மனைவி, அரசுப் பள்ளியில் ஆசிரியராகப் பணியாற்றுகிறார். வெங்கடரமணனின் பெற்றோரும் ஆசிரியர்களாகப் பணியாற்றி ஓய்வுபெற்றவர்கள். வெங்கடரமணனுக்கு மூன்று குழந்தைகள்.

ஸ்கூல் பஸ் டிரைவர் வேலையோடு, ரியல் எஸ்டேட் தொழிலிலும் வெங்கடரமணன் கால்பதித்தார். அதில், வருமானம் அதிகரித்தது. அதனால், ஸ்கூல் பஸ் டிரைவர் வேலையை உதறித்தள்ளினார், முழுநேரம் ரியல் எஸ்டேட் தொழிலில் இறங்கினார். சென்னை ஆழ்வார்பேட்டையில் அலுவலகம், சொகுசு கார்கள் என பந்தாவாக வலம் வந்தார்.

இந்தச் சமயத்தில், பிரதீப்குமார் என்பவர், காஞ்சிபுரம் மாவட்டத்தில் 35 ஏக்கர் நிலம் வாங்கித்தரும்படி வெங்கடரமணனை அணுகியுள்ளார். அதில், 1.70 கோடி ரூபாயை ஏமாற்றியதாக பிரதீப்குமார், சென்னை மத்தியக் குற்றப்பிரிவு போலீஸில் புகார் கொடுத்தார். அதன்பேரில், போலீஸ் உதவி கமிஷனர் முத்துவேல்பாண்டி தலைமையில் தனிப்படை அமைக்கப்பட்டது. போலீஸார் விசாரணை நடத்தி வந்தனர்.
இதற்கிடையில், சென்னை வேளச்சேரியைச் சேர்ந்த கே.ஆர்.வி. ப்ராபர்ட்டீஸ் சி.இ.ஓ குமார், சென்னையைச் சேர்ந்த கிரண் வர்கீஸ் தாமஸ் ஆகியோரும் வெங்கடரமணன் மீது மோசடிப் புகார் கொடுத்தனர். மூன்று புகார்கள் தொடர்பாக தனிப்படை போலீஸார் விசாரணை நடத்தினர். போலீஸார் தேடுவதையறிந்த வெங்கடரமணன், வடமாநிலத்துக்குத் தப்பிஓடிவிட்டார். அவரது கூட்டாளிகள் முத்துநாராயணன், கமலேஷ், சஞ்சய் ஆகியோர் கைதுசெய்யப்பட்டனர். ஆனால், மூன்று ஆண்டுகளாக வெங்கடரமணன் வடமாநிலங்களில் தலைமறைவாகவே இருந்துவந்தார்.

ராஜஸ்தான் மாநிலத்தில் கொள்ளையர்களைப் பிடிக்கச் சென்றபோது, இன்ஸ்பெக்டர் பெரியபாண்டியன் துப்பாக்கிக் குண்டுபாய்ந்து பலியானார். இதனால், வடமாநிலங்களில் தலைமறைவாக இருக்கும் குற்றவாளிகளைப் பிடிப்பதில் சென்னை போலீஸார் கூடுதல் கவனம்செலுத்திவருகின்றனர். வெங்கடரமணன், மஹாராஷ்டிராவில் தலைமறைவாக இருக்கும் தகவல், உதவி கமிஷனர் முத்துவேல்பாண்டிக்குக் கிடைத்ததும் அங்கு செல்ல முடிவுசெய்தனர். உடனடியாக, சில நாள்களுக்கு முன்பு முத்துவேல்பாண்டி தலைமையில் இன்ஸ்பெக்டர்கள் ஜானகிராமன், ஆனந்தபாபு, சப்-இன்ஸ்பெக்டர்கள் கமல்மோகன், யோகேஷ்வரன் மற்றும் போலீஸார் கஜேந்திரன், செந்தில்குமார் ஆகியோர் மஹாராஷ்டிராவுக்குச் சென்றனர். அங்கு வெங்கடரமணன், ஒரு நிறுவனத்தை நடத்திவருகிறார் என்ற தகவல் கிடைத்ததும், அந்த இடத்துக்கு போலீஸார் சென்றனர்.



உதவி கமிஷனர் முத்துவேல்பாண்டி தலைமையிலான தனிப்படை போலீஸார், வெங்கடரமணனைப் பொறிவைத்து மடக்கிப்பிடித்தனர். பிறகு, சென்னைக்கு அழைத்துவந்தனர். வெங்கடரமணன் மீது 40 கோடி ரூபாய் மோசடி செய்துள்ளதாகப் புகார்கள் வந்துள்ளன. அதில் முதல் குற்றவாளியான வெங்கடரமணனை, துரிதமாகச் செயல்பட்டு பிடித்துவந்துள்ளனர். அவர்களை சென்னை போலீஸ் உயரதிகாரிகள் பாராட்டினர்.

இதுகுறித்து போலீஸ் வட்டாரங்கள் கூறுகையில், “வெங்கடரமணன், சென்னையில் ரியல் எஸ்டேட் அலுவலகம் நடத்தியபோது மஹாராஷ்டிராவைச் சேர்ந்த பெண் பணியாற்றியுள்ளார். போலீஸில் வெங்கடரமணன் மீது நிலமோசடி புகார் கொடுக்கப்பட்டவுடன், வெங்கடரமணன் மஹாராஷ்ராவுக்குச் சென்றுள்ளார். அங்கு, அந்தப் பெண் உதவியுடன் கம்பெனியை நடத்திவந்துள்ளார். மேலும், மும்பையில் இந்திரா ஏர் பிரைவேட் லிமிடெட் என்ற பெயரில் ஹெலிகாப்டரை வாடகைக்கு விட்டுள்ளார். இதற்காக, 6 கோடி ரூபாய் மதிப்பில் ஹெலிகாப்டர் வாங்கியுள்ளார். போலீஸ் தேடுவதையறிந்ததும் மும்பை, மஹாராஷ்டிரா என வடமாநிலங்களில் தலைமறைவாக வாழ்ந்துள்ளார். அதற்கு, ஹெலிகாப்டரைப் பயன்படுத்தியிருக்கிறார். பல சொகுசு கார்களும் அவரிடம் இருந்துள்ளன. தலைமறைவு வாழ்க்கையால் அந்த கார்களைச் சிலர் கைப்பற்றியுள்ளனர்.

போலீஸிடம் சிக்காமலிருக்க, செயற்கைக்கோள் போனை வெங்கடரமணன் பயன்படுத்திவந்துள்ளார். இதனால், அவரைக் கண்டுபிடிப்பதில் சிரமம் இருந்தது. தற்போது, வெங்கடரமணன் குறித்த தகவல் கிடைத்ததும், அவர் மஹாராஷ்டிராவில் நடத்திவரும் நிறுவனத்துக்குச் சென்றோம். வெங்கடரமணனின் புகைப்படத்தை அங்கு காட்டியதும், அங்குள்ளவர்கள் அடையாளம் காட்டினர்.

வெங்கடரமணனிடம் போலீஸார் விசாரித்தபோது, நான் ஏமாற்றியதாக என் மீது புகார் கொடுத்தவர்களுக்குப் பணம் கொடுத்துவிடுகிறேன். என்னை விட்டுவிடுங்கள். தற்போது சென்னையில் கோடிக்கணக்கில் எனக்குச் சொத்துகள் இருக்கின்றன. அதைக்கூட புகார் கொடுத்தவர்களுக்கு எழுதிக் கொடுத்துவிடுகிறேன் என்று கூறியுள்ளார். வெங்கடரமணனைக் கைதுசெய்ய, அவர் பயன்படுத்திய செயற்கைக்கோள் போனை போலீஸார் பறிமுதல்செய்துள்ளனர். தொடர்ந்து, அவரது சொத்துகுறித்த விவரங்களைச் சேகரித்துவருகின்றனர்.

தலைமறைவாக இருந்த வெங்கடரமணன், போலீஸுக்கு பயந்து சில மாதங்களாக ஹெலிகாப்டரைப் பயன்படுத்தாமல் இருந்ததால், அது பழுதடைந்துள்ளது. மேலும், ஹெலிகாப்டரை இயக்கும் பைலட் ஒருவரை வெங்டரமணன் வேலைக்குச் சேர்த்துள்ளார். அவருக்கு மாதச் சம்பளம், இரண்டரை லட்சம் கொடுத்துள்ளார். அவரிடம் விசாரித்தபோது, அந்த பைலட் மத்திய அமைச்சர் ஒருவரின் தூரத்து உறவினர் என்று தெரிவித்துள்ளார். அதுதொடர்பாக தனிப்படை போலீஸார் விசாரித்துவருகின்றனர். நிலமோசடிப் புகாரில் சிக்கிய வெங்கடரமணனின் வாழ்க்கை, ‘சதுரங்க வேட்டை’ சினிமாவின் நிஜம் போல இருப்பதாக போலீஸார் தெரிவித்தனர். அதாவது, நிலத்தை குறைந்த விலைக்கு வாங்கி, பிளாட் போட்டு அதிக லாபத்தைப் பெறலாம் என்று, புகார் கொடுத்தவர்களிடம் வெங்கடரமணன் கூறியிருக்கிறார். மேலும், வாங்கிக்கொடுத்த இடத்தை வேறு நபருக்கு விற்கும்போது, குறைந்த விலைக்குக் கொடுத்துள்ளார். அதிலும் லாபத்தை வெங்கடரமணன் பார்த்துள்ளார். லட்சக்கணக்கில் மோசடிசெய்து, ஆடம்பரமாக அவர் வாழ்ந்துள்ளதாக போலீஸார் தெரிவித்தனர்.

புதுக்கோட்டை நகர புதிய பேருந்து நிலையம் இரண்டு திடீர் விஷயங்களால் இன்று திணறியது. காலை ஒன்பது மணிக்கு புதுக்கோட்டை மாவட்ட கட்டுமானத் தொழிலாளர்கள் அனைத்துத் தரப்பினரும் பேருந்துநிலையத்தில் ஒன்று திரண்டு போராட்டம் நடத்தினர். கிட்டதட்ட ஆயிரம் பேர் கலந்துகொண்ட இந்தப் போராட்டத்தால், மூன்று மணி நேரம் போக்குவரத்து பாதிக்கப்பட்டது. அவ்வளவு பேரையும் கைதுசெய்து, அருகில் உள்ள ஆயுதப்படை விடுதியில் உள்ள சமுதாயக் கூடத்தில் தங்கவைத்து மாலையில் விடுதலை செய்தனர்.

இந்த பிரச்னை முடிந்து ஆறுமணி நேரம் கழித்து அடுத்தப் பிரச்னை ஆரம்பித்தது. ஊதிய உயர்வு கோரிக்கைகளை நிறைவேற்றக் கோரி, தமிழ்நாடு போக்குவரத்துக் கழக தொழிற்சங்க நிர்வாகிகள் தமிழக அரசுடன் நடத்திய பேச்சுவார்த்தை தோல்வியில் முடிந்ததைத் தொடர்ந்து தமிழகமெங்கும் பேருந்துகள் இயங்கவில்லை. இதன் பாதிப்பு புதுக்கோட்டை பேருந்து நிலையத்தில் உடனடியாக தெரிந்தது. பேச்சுவார்த்தையின் போக்கை உடனுக்குடன் தெரிந்துகொண்ட மாவட்ட தொழிற்சங்க பிரதிநிதிகள் வேலை நிறுத்தத்துக்கு தயாராக இருந்தனர்.

மாலை 6 மணிக்கு சென்னையிலிருந்து வந்த தகவலையடுத்து, மின்னல் வேகத்தில் பேருந்துகள் இயக்கப்படுவது நிறுத்தப்பட்டது. இந்தத் திடீர் வேலை நிறுத்தத்தால், புதுக்கோட்டைக்கு வந்த கிராம மக்கள் வெகுவாகப் பாதிக்கப்பட்டனர். பாஸ் எடுத்து அரசுப் பேருந்தை மட்டுமே நம்பி பயணிக்கும் பள்ளி மாணவ மாணவிகளும் வேலைக்குச் செல்லும் பெண்களும் ஆண்களும் பேருந்து நிலையத்தில் காத்திருந்தனர். இதனால் இரவு எட்டு மணி வரைநிரம்பி வழிந்த பயணிகளால் மீண்டும் பேருந்து நிலையம் திணறியது. புத்திசாலியான மாணவ மாணவிகள் அருகில் உள்ள டீக்கடைகளில் மொபைல் போன்வாங்கி, தங்கள் அப்பா, அம்மா, சகோதரர்களுக்கு போன் செய்து தகவல்களைச் சொல்லிக்கொண்டிருந்தார்கள். கொஞ்ச நேரத்திலேயே அவர்களது உறவினர்கள் மோட்டார் சைக்கிளில் வந்து அழைத்துச் சென்றார்கள்.

ஒரே கிராமத்தைச் சேர்ந்தவர்கள் நான்குபேர்களை ஏற்றிக்கொண்டு விரைந்த அந்த மோட்டார் சைக்கிளை போக்குவரத்துக் காவலர்கள் கண்டும் காணாமல் இருந்ததோடு, 'கவனமா போங்கப்பா' என்று எச்சரிக்கை செய்து அனுப்பி வைத்ததை இன்று பார்க்க முடிந்தது. அதே சமயம் ஆட்சியாளர்கள், அதிகாரிகள், பேருந்து ஓட்டுநர், நடத்துநருக்கு எதிராக மக்கள் எரிச்சலுடன் முனுமுனுப்பதையும் கேட்க முடிந்தது. "அமைச்சர்களுக்கும் அதிகாரிகளும் சொகுசான காரில் போறாங்க.. வர்றாங்க. நாம படுற கஷ்டம் அவங்களுக்கு என்ன தெரியும். அவங்களும் இந்த பஸ்ல நெருக்கியடித்து போய்வந்தாதான் தெரியும்" என்றவர்கள், போக்குவரத்து ஊழியர்களையும் விடவில்லை. "இப்படி திடுதிப்புன்னு மக்களை 'அலங்க மலங்க' அடிச்சுதான் சம்பளத்தை உயர்த்திக் கேட்கணுமா?" என்று கொந்தளித்தார்கள்.
  அதேசமயம் தஞ்சை, திருச்சி, மதுரை போன்ற ஊர்களில் இருந்து புதுக்கோட்டைக்குப் பேருந்துகள் வந்து போய்க்கொண்டிருந்தன. நகரப் பேருந்துகள் சுத்தமாக இயங்கவில்லை. இப்படி காலையில் கட்டுமானத்தொழிலாளர்களின் போராட்டத்தால் ஸ்தம்பித்த புதிய பேருந்து நிலையம், மாலையில் தொடங்கிய போக்குவரத்துக் கழகத் தொழிலாளர்களின் வேலை நிறுத்தத்தால் புதுக்கோட்டை திணறிவிட்டது.

கடந்த ஆண்டுவரை மாணவர்கள் தேர்வறைக்குள் கால்குலேட்டர் கொண்டு செல்லத் தடை விதிக்கப்பட்டிருந்தது என்பது குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது.

Medical physics programme gets AERB nod

Course is an inter-disciplinary one

The M.Sc. Medical Physics programme offered by the Department of Medical Physics of Bharathidasan University has been recently approved by the Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB).

The Department has been offering the course specialised in radiation technology applied to cancer therapy in collaboration with GVN Hospital, Tiruchi since 2006.

The course is an inter-disciplinary one that bridges physics with medicine and biology for applications in healthcare particularly in radiation cancer therapy. Due to increased health care awareness in India, several hospitals have installed state-of-the-art equipment for diagnostics and therapeutic treatment of cancer patients, and there has been increasing demand for well-trained medical physicists and radiation safety officers in the country, a release from the university said.

To address the shortage of skilled work force in these fastest growing areas of cancer radiation therapy, Bharathidasan University is also engaged in training PG students as qualified medical physicists and radiation safety officers.

G. Gopinath, Registrar, said medical physics was one of the fastest growing areas of employment for physicists. They play crucial roles in radiology, nuclear medicine and radiation oncology. These fields use very sophisticated and expensive equipment, and medical physicists are responsible for much of its plan, execution, testing and quality assurance.

K. Jeganathan, Head, Department of Medical Physics of the varsity, said the minimum syllabi prescribed by AERB included practicals in the university and the hospital. Successful completion of the programme and one-year internship in radiation therapy, meeting AERB criteria, will help post graduates qualify as medical physicist and get employment in medical institutions.

On successful completion of the programme, the students will have to pass an examination conducted by BARC-DAE to become eligible to be appointed as Radiological Safety Officer in medical institutions, he said.

Lack of employment demand, deemed universities increasing seats cited as reasons

Tamil Nadu has the most number of engineering colleges with less than 30% intake of students this year. The State has 526 colleges of which 177 have enrolled only 12,399 students this year, according to Satya Pal Singh, Minister of State for Human Resources.

The Minister provided the information in the Lok Sabha in response to questions from eight members, who sought details of the number of colleges that had enrolled less than 30% of its total intake in the last three years and what steps the government had taken to remedy the situation.

The Minister said the All India Council for Technical Education did not offer the option of converting engineering colleges into arts and science colleges. Closure itself depended on voluntary application furnished to the Council.

In Tamil Nadu, while 140 engineering colleges had less than 30% of its sanctioned intake in 2014-15, the number rose to 142 colleges in the following academic year. In 2016-17, in 177 engineering colleges only 12,399 were enrolled against a sanctioned intake of 77,509.

Principals blame AICTE

Though the government has tried to absolve the Council of blame, engineering college principals do not agree. The Council had, in the past decade, eased the requirements for setting up an engineering college, spawning more institutions to circumvent the restriction on intake.

This led to more students enrolling in colleges, but many were not skilled enough to be employable, says V. Venkatachalam, principal of Sengunthar Engineering College. “The AICTE opened the market and colleges increased intake without considering the demand-supply ration. Job opportunities have reduced gradually and poor skilling have led to students joining the college as faculty in some cases,” he says.

While the Minister has said that the AICTE has introduced skill development centres or vocational education institute, engineering educators say it will take a long time before there can be a turnaround.

Several factors contributed to fall in admissions, says M.S. Mathivanan, vice-chairman of the consortium of self-financed engineering colleges of Tamil Nadu. “Some colleges are closing as there is no employment demand. Another reason is deemed universities have increased the number of seats and students prefer them or even autonomous colleges where results are liberal.”

The AICTE recently reduced the teacher to student ratio to 1:25 from 1:20, but it may take a long time for the effect to percolate as colleges are struggling to pay the salaries to the existing staff. He faults the State government for delay in reimbursement of fee of Scheduled Caste students.

“Classes started in July but we have not yet received the money. We are not able to pay the salary to teachers because of this. Since it is free education more students join but we have a problem in paying salary to the staff,” Mr. Mathivanan says.

Fingers are pointed at AICTE for permitting colleges to increase the number of courses. “Whoever had accreditation could increase intake. As a result colleges have gone for increase in intake. New colleges have also been allowed to commence. We find that nearly 20% of students are not interested in engineering in a given institution,” says S. Kuppuswami, principal of Kongu Engineering College.

Hyderabad: Refused biryani, 10 attack hotel owner

Hyderabad: Ten persons under the influence of alcohol attacked the owner of Lucky Restaurant at Alkapuri on Wednesday night after he denied to serve them biryani, citing shortage.

The victim, Syed Ali Raza, claimed that the suspects barged into the hotel and threatened him. The LB Nagar police arrested four persons related to the case —Venkatesh Yadav, Srisailam Yadav, Santosh and Ramulu, who are doing real estate business in the city.

Lucky Restaurant is located on Alkapuri X Road at Nagole. On Wednesday at around 11.45 pm, four persons entered the hotel and asked for biryani. When Raza told them that the food is also not available, they picked up an argument with him. A few minutes later, others joined the group and started assaulting Raza.

“They first damaged the furniture and threw away the utensils and later attacked me with vessels,” said Raza. The whole episode was recorded in the CCTV.
Raza, who suffered severe injuries on his head, alerted the police.

“We have arrested four persons in connection with the attack on the hotel owner. Further investigations are on to verify the role of the second group. Based on the evidence, the investigation will proceed,” said N. Prakash, SI of LB Nagar.

Meanwhile, residents of Chromepet have warned that they would agitate against officials’ apathy over restoring the escalator.



CHENNAI: Physically challenged and senior citizens are left in the lurch after an escalator at Chromepet railway station had stopped working two weeks ago.

“The escalator at the western side of the foot overbridge (FOB) connecting Chromepet railway station with GST Road has not been working for last 15 days. Due to this, senior citizens and physically challenged are left to suffer,” V. Santhanam, president, New Colony Residents’ Welfare Association, said.

The escalator had been used by residents of the New Colony, Lakshmip-uram and Shastri Nagar among other neighbouring areas. On any given day, nearly 25,000 to 30,000 commuters are using the foot overbridge, V. Santhanam added.

One of the railway engineers said that the maintenance works on escalators are entrusted to a private contractor. “The private firm has given subcontract to another firm and monetary disputes between two contractors have held up the restoration works,” the official added.

Meanwhile, residents of Chromepet have warned that they would agitate against officials’ apathy over restoring the escalator.

The impact will be felt most by Telugu speaking people as a large number of visas and green card applications are issued to people from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

Hyderabad: The proposal being circulated in the Department of Homeland Security of the United States government to end the provision of granting extensions to H-1B visas holders waiting for their green cards (permanent residency in the United States), is causing some amount of insecurity among that section of the Indian diaspora. If the proposal goes through, it could put the visa status of between 5,00,000 and 7,50,000 Indians in jeopardy.

The impact will be felt most by Telugu speaking people as a large number of visas and green card applications are issued to people from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. These two states send the most number of students to the US every year. Furthermore, when these students pass out of American universities, they prefer to work in the US rather than return to India.

K. Pradeep is a software engineer based in Chicago, who entered the US as a student. He does not think it’s time to press the panic button yet.

“As of now, no government agency has officially expressed the intention of deporting people. Immigration attorneys are key people who can educate and create an impact to a certain extent. However, people of Telugu origin are not getting much help from immigration attorneys. If the Indian government doesn’t intervene and lobby at the proposal level itself, it cannot be of much help at later stages.”

Techies in the US are certain that any law that the Trump administration will bring in cannot be done at the drop of a hat, but will take at least two years.

According to a widely circulated LinkedIn post among the Telugu diaspora by Rajiv Khanna, Managing Attorney of Immigration.com, discontinuing H-1B extensions beyond six years is easier said than done.

“The law that permits, in fact mandates, the availability of extensions beyond six years is clearly binding upon the Trump administration. The idea that is being floated that there are occasional uses of the word “may”, which permits the government to implement or not to implement the extension provisions is incorrect,” Mr Khanna posted.

Taking away the H-1B extensions by Executive action is going to be extremely difficult if not impossible, he added.

Telugu diaspora keen on staying in US

The Telugu diaspora is keen on staying in the US. Jay Challa, head of the business group of the American Telugu Association, recently said that there are a lot of business persons from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana in the United States and the government will certainly not shut its doors completely to skilled labour, considering the fact that the country has to be economically competitive.

Lasya Reddy, whose green card is in the processing stage, said, “If this becomes a law, certainly I will be deported. However, I have a couple of years to get the next extension. While the fear is not as much as is being portrayed, there is a sense of insecurity among us. Most of us postponed our plans of purchasing a home as we will not be able to pay the mortgage immediately if something goes wrong.”

“This is going to be a slow poison. Every time a person goes for a visa, they are thoroughly scrutinised and there are a lot of factors based on which they get extension. There is a possibility that the extension for a lot of people will be stalled over the next two years. But deportation in one go may not happen, said P. Venkat, who works in Philadelphia.

CHENNAI: IndiGo on Wednesday announced six new flights and five additional frequencies on its existing domestic network.

Effective February 1, IndiGo will connect Chennai for the first time with Udaipur, Varanasi, Patna and Lucknow.

Five additional flights on the Ahmedabad-Chennai, Chennai-Thiruvananthapuram, Thiruvananthapuram-Chennai, Chennai-Ahmedabad and Jaipur-Chennai sectors are also being introduced.

IndiGo will also introduce a direct flight on the Patna-Varanasi, Udaipur-Jaipur and Jaipur-Chennai sectors as well. Booking for these flights are open.

The company recently announced the introduction of ATR aircraft to its fleet and four new destinations - Colombo, Vijayawada, Rajahmundry and Tirupati - to its network.

Sanjay Kumar, chief commercial officer, IndiGo, said, "With soaring demand on these sectors, we are hopeful that these flights will prove to be popular among our customers."

Gundri students can now get home early

 ERODE: A day after TOI published a report on the gruelling daily schedule of school and college students living at Gundri and 26 surrounding hamlets in Erode district, Tamil Nadu school education minister K A Sengottaiyan, who hails from the district, ordered officials to do a ground check. The minister told this correspondent that he ordered transport officials to divert a bus to pick up students at 3.30 pm from Kadambur, where the school is situated. He also ordered the school authorities to allow students from Gundri to leave at 3.20 pm to catch the bus.
TOI reported on Thursday that children from the region had to leave home for school around 5 am to catch the lone bus to Kadambur, 19km away, and they get back home at 10 pm.

The announcement has come as a big relief for people of the region. "We are happy that our children will come back home at 5 pm instead of 10 pm," G V Ravichandran, a parent told TOI. He said the state government had finally woken up to their long-pending plea after the news report appeared.

A total of 32 students, 18 of them girls, studying Class XI and XII in the government higher secondary school at Kadambur, besides 18 students, including seven girls, studying in the Government Arts and Science College in Sathyamangalam, 54km from Gundri, take the dawn bus and return late at night. If they miss the bus, it means an arduous trek through the Sathyamangalam Tiger Reserve.

When told about the children's ordeal, Sengottaiyan said on Wednesday that he would convene a meeting with transport department officials on Sunday to discuss the issue. However, on Thursday he contacted education and transport officials and passed the necessary orders. He said the possibility of operating buses suitable to school timings was being explored. The transport officials told the minister that they would operate a bus at 3.30 pm to Gundri from Kadambur. The minister also ordered Erode district chief educational officer (CEO) R Balamurali to ensure that students from the Gundri region are allowed to leave their classes at 3.20 pm to catch the bus.

"I have helped the students to return home before dusk," Sengottaiyan told TOI. He said he will check the possibility of operating another bus at 8 am.

Balamurali confirmed that he has received the order. "I have given directions to the school headmaster based on the minister's order," he said. Transport officials said they have directed the bus driver and the conductor to pick up Gundri students even if they come at 3.30 pm.

தமிழ்நாடு அரசு போக்குவரத்து கழக ஊழியர்களுக்கான 13-வது ஊதிய ஒப்பந்தம் தொடர்பாக 47 தொழிற்சங்கங்களுடன் போக்குவரத்து துறை அமைச்சர் மற்றும் அதிகாரிகள் ஏற்கனவே பேச்சுவார்த்தை நடத்தினார்கள்.

சென்னை குரோம்பேட்டையில் உள்ள போக்குவரத்து கழக பயிற்சி மையத்தில் 11 முறையும், சென்னை பல்லவன் இல்லம், தேனாம்பேட்டையில் உள்ள தொழிலாளர் நலத்துறை ஆணையர் அலுவலகத்தில் 10 முறையும் பேச்சுவார்த்தை நடந்தது.

இந்த பேச்சுவார்த்தைகள் அனைத்தும் முடிவுகள் எட்டப்படாமல் தோல்வியில் முடிவடைந் தது.

போக்குவரத்து ஊழியர்களுக்கு அடிப்படை சம்பளத்தில் இருந்து 2.35 காரணி மடங்கு ஊதிய உயர்வு கொடுக்கப்படும் என்று அரசு தரப்பில் கூறப்பட்டது.

காலை 11 மணிக்கு தொடங்கிய பேச்சுவார்த்தையில் தொடர்ந்து இழுபறி காணப்பட்டது. டிரைவர்கள், கண்டக்டர்கள் பணியில் ஈடுபட்டிருந்தாலும், பேச்சுவார்த்தை தொடர்பான விவரங்களை தொழிற்சங்க உறுப்பினர்களிடம் அவ்வப்போது கேட்டபடி இருந்தனர்.

இந்த ஒப்பந்தத்தை அ.தி.மு.க. உள்பட 30-க்கும் மேற்பட்ட தொழிற்சங்கங்கள் ஏற்றுக்கொண்டன. தி.மு.க. உள்பட 13 தொழிற்சங்கங்கள் ஏற்க மறுத்துவிட்டன.

எனவே பேச்சுவார்த்தையில் இருந்து தி.மு.க. உள்பட 13 தொழிற்சங்க நிர்வாகிகள் வெளியேறி அதிகாரபூர்வ ‘ஸ்டிரைக்’ அறிவிப்பை நேற்று இரவு 8 மணியளவில் வெளியிட்டனர். இதையடுத்து இயக்கப்பட்ட ஒரு சில பஸ்களும் ஆங்காங்கே நிறுத்தப்பட்டன.

பஸ்சில் இருந்த பயணிகள் நடுவழியில் இறக்கி விடப்பட்டனர். இதனால் அவர்கள் செய்வது அறியாது திகைத்தனர். பஸ் டிரைவர்களிடம் வாக்குவாதத்தில் ஈடுபட்டனர். டிக்கெட் கட்டணத்தையும் திருப்பி கேட்டனர். ஆனால் சில கண்டக்டர்கள் தர மறுத்துவிட்டனர்.

வெளியூர் செல்லும் பெரும்பாலான பஸ்களும் இரவில் இருந்து நிறுத்தப்பட்டன. இதனால் வெளியூர் செல்ல திட்டமிட்டிருந்த பயணிகள் கடும் அவதிக்குள்ளாகினர். கோயம்பேடு பஸ் நிலையத்தில் கடும் குளிரையும் பொருட்படுத்தாமல் தங்க வேண்டிய நிலை பலருக்கு ஏற்பட்டது. அதிக கட்டணம் கொடுத்து ஆம்னி பஸ்சில் பயணிக்க வேண்டிய நிர்ப்பந்தமும் பலருக்கு ஏற்பட்டது.

பஸ் டிரைவர்கள் போராட்டத்தால் அசம்பாவித சம்பவங்கள் நடைபெறாமல் தடுக்கும் நடவடிக்கையாக போலீசார் உஷார்படுத்தப்பட்டனர். பஸ் நிலையங்கள், போக்குவரத்து பணிமனைகள் பல்லவன் இல்லம் போன்ற இடங்களில் போலீஸ் பாதுகாப்பு போடப்பட்டது.

சென்னை ராஜீவ்காந்தி அரசு மருத்துவக்கல்லூரி முதல்வர் (டீன்) ஆர்.நாராயணபாபு, ஓமந்தூரார் அரசு மருத்துவக்கல்லூரிக்கு பணி இடமாற்றம் செய்யப்பட்டார். மேலும் ஓமந்தூரார் அரசு மருத்துவக்கல்லூரி முதல்வர் டாக்டர் ஆர்.ஜெயந்தி, சென்னை ராஜீவ்காந்தி அரசு மருத்துவக்கல்லூரி முதல்வராக நியமனம் செய்யப்பட்டார்.

இதனையடுத்து ராஜீவ்காந்தி அரசு மருத்துவக்கல்லூரி மருத்துவமனையில் முதல்வராக டாக்டர் ஆர்.ஜெயந்தி நேற்று பொறுப்பு ஏற்றுக்கொண்டார். பொது மருத்துவமனை புதிய ‘டீன்’ ஆக நேற்று பொறுப்பேற்ற டாக்டர் ஆர்.ஜெயந்தி, உடனடியாக தனது பணியை தொடங்கினார். பின்னர் மருத்துவமனையில் சிகிச்சை பெறும் நோயாளிகளை சந்தித்து குறைகளை கேட்டறிந்தார்.

அப்போது டாக்டர் ஆர்.ஜெயந்தி கூறுகையில், “நோயாளிகள் நலனுக்கு தேவையான நடவடிக்கைகள் எடுக்கப்படும். ராஜீவ்காந்தி அரசு பொது மருத்துவமனையின் வளர்ச்சிக்காகவும், இங்குள்ள மருத்துவ வசதிகளை நோயாளிகள் எளிதில் கிடைக்கவும் பாடுபடுவேன்”, என்றார்.

டாக்டர் ஜெயந்தி 1986-ம் ஆண்டு டாக்டர் பட்டம் பெற்றார். கடந்த 2016-ம் ஆண்டு முதல் முறையாக திருவண்ணாமலை அரசு மருத்துவக்கல்லூரியில் முதல்வராக பொறுப்பேற்றார் என்பது குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது.

CBI books former AMU VC for alleged irregularities in appointment

The CBI action has come nearly 10 years after Ahmad had resigned from the position in 2007. He was the Vice Chancellor between 2002 and 2007.

The CBI has booked former Vice Chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University Naseem Ahmad in connection with alleged irregularities and cheating in the appointment of an official in the university in 2005.

The CBI action has come nearly 10 years after Ahmad had resigned from the position in 2007. He was the Vice Chancellor between 2002 and 2007.

The case pertains to the appointment of Shakaib Arsalan as Assistant Finance Officer in the AMU in 2005 in alleged violation of provisions of the AMU Act and rules, officials said.

The CBI has registered a case of criminal conspiracy, cheating and provisions of Prevention of Corruption Act against Arsalan (now Joint Finance Officer), Beg now Finance Officer and Ahmad, they said.

It is alleged that the vacancy for the post of Assistant Finance Officer and Deputy Finance Officer were advertised by the AMU on January 1, 2004 for which 22 candidates had applied.

Among the 22 candidates, nine were found to be eligible for the post of the AFO which did not include Arsalan, the preliminary enquiry of the CBI into the allegations has found.

Arsalan submitted a representation that his degree of Chartered Accountant is not being considered equivalent to a post-graduate degree in the shortlisting process whereas an AMU notification recognises these degrees as equivalent, it alleged.

He requested for his consideration for the interview held on February 3, 2005, it said.

The then Deputy Finance Officer Yasmin Jalal Beg allegedly in violation of laid down procedure recommended the candidature of Arsalan for interview on the grounds that CA degree is the optimum qualification for any finance person and if a CA has applied for the position of the AFO, he will be an asset for the department.

It has surfaced during the CBI PE that Beg had put the note even though the file was not marked to her, the CBI alleged.

The note was forwarded through registrar and approved by Vice Chancellor Naseem Ahmad, it alleged.

The CBI PE also found that there was one more candidate with a CA degree with 60 per cent marks and several other candidates who had scored over 55 per cent marks in PG examination as per advertised eligibility conditions of the University, the FIR said.

Arsalan in his representation had concealed that he scored less that 55 per cent marks in CA examination and misled the officials by enclosing his part one marksheet which showed 55 per cent marks, it alleged.

Beg concealed that there was one more candidate with a CA degree and recommended Arsalan’s candidature as part of the “criminal conspiracy”, it alleged.

Based on the interview Arsalan’s was one of the three candidates recommended for the position of AFO which was approved by the Vice Chancellor on behalf of the Executive Council.

The CBI found that the Vice Chancellor can use special powers on behalf of the Executive Council of the University but such decisions mandatorily should be reported to the Council which was not done in the meeting held on October 4, 2005, the FIR alleged.

“It has thus revealed that the then VC Naseem Ahmad though not competent to relax the qualification deviated from the advertised qualification and approved the candidature of Shakaib Arsalan to be called for interview for the post of Assistant Finance Officer in AMU. Further the relaxation and deviation in the matter of appointment was not reported to the Executive Council and neither ratified from them,” the FIR alleged.

Fodder scam case: Lalu Yadav tells court ‘it’s cold in jail’, judge says then ‘play tabla’

Prasad, known for his funny liners, said in the court, "It is very cold here (in jail)".

Even in the midst of proceedings to decide the quantum of sentence in a fodder scam involving RJD chief Lalu Prasad, the leader did not miss to crack a funny when he told the judge that “it was very cold in jail” to which the judge replied play ‘tabla’.

A special court earlier deferred the sentencing of Prasad in the fodder scam case till tomorrow when it is likely to decide whether to pronounce the quantum of punishment over video conference or in court.

Prasad, known for his funny liners, said in the court, “It is very cold here (in jail)”.

CBI Special Court Judge Shiv Pal Singh, hearing the csae, was quick to reply, “Then, play tabla (musical instrument)”.

During the course of proceedings in the packed court room, the judge told Prasad that he had read the latter’s record and had vigilance remained tight, such a thing (fodder scam) would not have happened.

The judge further commented that the RJD chief did not act promptly on which Prasad in his characteristic style said “I am also an advocate.”

Prasad is an LLB from Patna University.

The judge also informed Prasad about the contempt notices to RJD leader Raghuvansh Prasad Singh, Prasad’s son and former Bihar deputy chief minister Tejaswi Yadav, Congress leader Manish Tiwari and RJD leader Shivanand Tiwari.

On this, the RJD chief requested him to drop the notices.

Before being taken away from the court room, Prasad urged the judge to think with a “cool mind”.

When the judge said he could opt for video conferencing for hearing on arguments on the quantum of sentence tomorrow, Prasad requested for personal appearance. The judge said he would decide tomorrow about it.

The fodder scam relates to fraudulent withdrawal of Rs 89.27 lakh from Deoghar treasury 21 years ago.

While the sentencing of Prasad was deferred for tomorrow, the arguments on quantum of sentence of IAS officer Beck Julius, political leader Jagdish Sharma, former treasury officer Krishna Kumar Prasad, fodder transporter/suppliers Gopinath Das and Jyoti Kumar Jha, ended today.

On a plea by three former IAS officers—Beck Julius, Phoolchand Singh and Mahesh Prasad—-the court directed to lodge them in the higher division of Birsa Munda jail where RJD supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav is given.

In all, 16 persons along with Yadav were convicted in the case on December 23 while six others, including former Bihar chief minister Jagannath Mishra, were acquitted in the case.

RBI all set to release new Rs 10 note

New Delhi: The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) is all set to issue new Rs 10 notes in a new avatar.

The revamped 10 rupee notes will be released under the Mahatma Gandhi series and have chocolate brown colour base, media reports have said.

The new note will bear the picture of the Konark Sun Temple.

Reportedly, the RBI has already printed around 1 billion pieces of the new Rs 10 note after getting design approval by the government last week.

Last time the old Rs 10 note got revamp was in 2005.

Following the demonetisation of Rs 1,000 and Rs 500 notes November 2016, the central bank had introduced Rs 2,000 notes and new Rs 500 notes.

In August last year, the RBI also launched the Rs 200 note with an aim to make it easier for the common man to transact in lower denomination currencies. Alongside, the central bank also introduced Rs 50 note with a new look and additional security features.

Prior to the introduction on the new notes, India has currency denominations of Rs 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 500 and 2,000.

As such, in the lower end of the denomination series, Rs 200 had been the missing link.  The Rs 200 bill bears motif of Sanchi Stupa to depict India’s cultural heritage.

The base colour of the note is bright yellow.

மருத்துவ கவுன்சிலுக்கு மாற்று: மத்திய அரசின் நோக்கம் என்ன?

இந்திய மருத்துவ கவுன்சிலுக்கு (எம்.சி.ஐ.) பதிலாக, தேசிய மருத்துவ ஆணையத்தை அமைக்க மத்திய அரசு எடுத்திருக்கும் முடிவு அதிர்ச்சியளிக்கிறது. இது தொடர்பான மசோதாவை, மத்திய சுகாதாரத் துறை அமைச்சர் ஜே.பி.நட்டா மக்களவையில் தாக்கல்செய்திருக்கிறார். நாடு முழுவதும் உள்ள தனியார் மருத்துவர்களும் அரசு மருத்துவர்களும் இதற்கு எதிராகப் போர்க்கொடி தூக்கியிருக்கும் நிலையில், நாடாளுமன்ற நிலைக்குழுவுக்கு இம்மசோதா அனுப்பிவைக்கப்பட்டிருக்கிறது. இந்நிலையில், மத்திய அரசின் இந்த நடவடிக்கையின் பின்னிருக்கும் நோக்கம் என்ன என்பதை நாம் பார்க்க வேண்டியிருக்கிறது.

இந்திய மருத்துவ கவுன்சில் சட்டம் (எம்.சி.ஐ.) 1933-ன்படி, இந்திய மருத்துவ கவுன்சில் 1934-ல் உருவாக்கப்பட்டது.1956-ல் கொண்டுவரப்பட்ட புதிய சட்டத்தின்படி, இது சட்டரீதியான, தன்னாட்சி அதிகாரம் படைத்த அமைப்பாக ஆனது. மருத்துவக் கல்விக்கான தரத்தை நிர்ணயித்து, நாடு முழுவதும் சீரான கல்வித் தரத்தைப் பேணுவது; புதிய மருத்துவக் கல்லூரிகளுக்கும், மருத்துவப் படிப்புகளுக்கும் அங்கீகாரம் வழங்குவது போன்றவை இந்திய மருத்துவ கவுன்சிலின் பணிகள்.

இந்தச் சூழலில், இந்திய மருத்துவ கவுன்சில் ஊழல் நிறைந்த அமைப்பாக மாறிவிட்டது என்றும், மருத்துவக் கல்லூரிகளைப் போதிய அளவுக்கு உருவாக்க நடவடிக்கை எடுக்கவில்லை என்றும், மருத்துவக் கல்வி வியாபாரமாவதைத் தடுக்கவில்லை என்றும் பல்வேறு காரணங்களைக் கூறி, அதை ஒழிக்க முயல்கிறது மத்திய அரசு. அதற்குப் பதிலாக தேசிய மருத்துவ ஆணையத்தை உருவாக்குவது அரசின் திட்டம்.

டாக்டர் ரஞ்சித் ராய் சௌத்ரி தலைமையிலான குழுவின் பரிந்துரைகளை அமல்படுத்த உச்ச நீதிமன்றம் அறிவுறுத்தியதால், இந்திய மருத்துவ கவுன்சிலை ஒழித்துவிட்டு, மருத்துவ ஆணையத்தைக் கொண்டுவருவதாகக் காரணம் சொல்கிறது மத்திய அரசு. உண்மையில், இந்திய மருத்துவ கவுன்சில் சட்டத்தில் திருத்தம் கொண்டுவந்து, உரிய மாற்றங்களைச் செய்யத்தான் டாக்டர் ரஞ்சித் ராய் செளத்ரி குழு பரிந்துரைத்தது; இந்திய மருத்துவ கவுன்சிலை ஒழிக்க வேண்டும் என்றல்ல!

யதேச்சாதிகாரத்துக்கு வாய்ப்பு

இந்திய மருத்துவ கவுன்சிலின் செயல்பாடுகள் குறைபாடுகள் இல்லாமல் இல்லை. ஆனால், இவற்றை நிவர்த்திசெய்வதற்குப் பல்வேறு ஆலோசனைகள் பல்வேறு அமைப்புகளால் இதற்கு முன்னர் வழங்கப்பட்டுள்ளன. ஆனால், அவற்றை மத்திய அரசு கண்டுகொள்ளவேயில்லை. இந்திய மருத்துவ கவுன்சிலில் 120 உறுப்பினர்கள் இருக்கிறார்கள். அனைவரும் மருத்துவர்கள். இதில் பெரும்பாலா னோர் தேர்ந்தெடுக்கப்பட்ட உறுப்பினர்கள். மத்திய அரசு கொண்டுவர முயற்சிக்கும் மருத்துவ ஆணையத்தில் மருத்துவர்களால் தேர்ந்தெடுக்கப்பட்ட உறுப்பினர்கள் 5 பேர் மட்டுமே இருப்பார்கள். தலைவர் உட்பட இதர 20 உறுப்பினர்களும் நியமன உறுப்பினர்களே. ஆணையத்தின் தலைவரைத் தவிர, மற்றவர்களில் பெரும்பாலானோர் மருத்துவர்களாக இருக்க மாட்டார்கள் என்பது இன்னொரு அதிர்ச்சி. அதுமட்டுமல்ல, ஆணையத்தின் தலைவரை நீக்குகின்ற அதிகாரமும் மத்திய அரசிடம் இருக்கும். எனில், இது யதேச்சாதிகாரத்துக்கும் முறைகேடுகளும் அல்லவா வாய்ப்பளிக்கும்?

மாணவர் சேர்க்கையை ஒழுங்குபடுத்துவதாகக் கூறிக்கொண்டு, மாநில அரசின் உரிமைகளை மத்திய அரசு பறிக்கிறது. இளநிலை மருத்துவ மாணவர் சேர்க்கைக்கு ‘நீட்’ நுழைவுத் தேர்வை இந்த ஆணையமே நடத்தும் என்கிறது புதிய மசோதா. இது என்னென்ன விளைவுகளுக்கு வித்திடும் என்பது நமக்குத் தெரியும். இந்த ஆணையத்தில், மாநிலங்களுக்கு உரிய பிரதிநிதித்துவமும் வழங்கப்படவில்லை. அதிகாரமற்ற நிலையில், வெறும் ஆலோசனைக் குழுவில் மட்டுமே மாநிலப் பிரதிநிதிகள் சுழற்சி முறையில் இருப்பார்கள். அவர்கள் பதவிக்காலமும் இரண்டு ஆண்டுகள்தான்.

இந்த ஆணையம் தொடர்பான கொள்கைகளில் இறுதி முடிவு எடுக்கும் அதிகாரம் மத்திய அரசிடமே இருக்கும். மாநில அரசுகள் இந்த மருத்துவ ஆணையத்தின் விதிகளை அமல்படுத்தியே தீர வேண்டும் என்றெல்லாம் இம்மசோதாவில் கூறப்பட்டுள்ளது. இது மருத்துவ சேவையிலும் மருத்துவக் கல்வியிலும் மாநிலங்களின் உரிமைகளைப் பறிக்கும் செயல். கூட்டாட்சித் தத்துவத்துக்கு எதிரானது என்று ஒலிக்கும் குரல்கள் நியாயமானவை.

இரட்டை நிலைப்பாடு

மருத்துவக் கல்வித் தரத்தை மேம்படுத்தவும், திறமையான மருத்துவர்களைப் போதிய அளவு உருவாக்கவுமே இந்த ஆணையம் எனும் வாதமும் ஏற்கத்தக்கதல்ல. மருத்துவக் கல்வியின் தரத்தை மேம்படுத்த வேண்டும் என்றால், மருத்துவப் பேராசிரியர்கள் பற்றாக்குறையைப் போக்கி, கட்டமைப்பை மேம்படுத்துவதில் கவனம் செலுத்த வேண்டும். சொல்லப்போனால், இந்தப் பணியை முறையாகச் செய்யவிடாமல், இந்திய மருத்துவ கவுன்சிலைத் தடுத்துவந்ததே மத்திய அரசுதான். போதிய அடிப்படை வசதிகள் இல்லை என இந்திய மருத்துவ கவுன்சிலால் அனுமதி மறுக்கப்பட்ட கல்லூரிகளுக்கெல்லாம், மத்திய அரசே நேரடியாக அனுமதி வழங்கியுள்ளது. மத்திய - மாநில அரசுகள் போதிய அளவில் மருத்துவக் கல்லூரிகளை உருவாக்குவதே இதற்குத் தீர்வாகும்.

மருத்துவ நெறிமுறைகள் (Medical Ethics) காணாமல் போனதற்கு, இந்திய மருத்துவ கவுன்சிலைக் குறை சொல்கிறது மத்திய அரசு. ஆனால், மருத்துவ நெறிமுறைகள் மறைந்துவிட்டதற்குக் காரணம் மருத்துவக் கல்வியும், மருத்துவமும் தனியார்மயமானதும், வணிகமயமானதும்தான். அதைக் கட்டுப்படுத்தாத மத்திய அரசு, பெருநிறுவனங்களின் கரங்களில் மருத்துவத்தையும் மருத்துவக் கல்வியையும் மேலும் ஒப்படைக்கும் வகையில் தேசிய நலக் கொள்கையை (2017)கொண்டுவந்துள்ளது. 

மருத்துவ ஆராய்ச்சியை மேம்படுத்தவே இந்தப் புதிய மருத்துவ ஆணையம் என்கிறது மத்திய அரசு. இதற்கெனத் தனியாக இந்திய மருத்துவ ஆராய்ச்சிக் கழகம் உள்ளது. அதற்குப் போதிய நிதியை அரசு ஒதுக்கவில்லை. மருத்துவ ஆராய்ச்சிக்கான நிதியை இந்த அரசு 25% குறைத்துவிட்டது குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது.

யாருக்கு லாபம்?

தனியார் மருத்துவக் கல்லூரிகளின் கல்விக் கட்டணத்தை நிர்ணயிக்கும் பணியை மருத்துவ ஆணையம் செய்யும் என்றும் மத்திய அரசு கூறுகிறது. ஆனால், தனியார் மருத்துவக் கல்வி நிறுவனங்களிலும் தனியார் பல்கலைக்கழகங்களிலும் உள்ள 40%-க்கும் குறைவான மருத்துவ இடங்களுக்கு மட்டுமே கட்டணம் நிர்ணயிக்கப்படும் என்றே இம்மசோதாவில் கூறப்பட்டிருக்கிறது. மாநில அரசுகளின் கட்டண நிர்ணயக் குழுக்கள், அரசு மற்றும் நிர்வாக ஒதுக்கீட்டு இடங்களில் 100% இடங்களுக்கும் கட்டணங்களை நிர்ணயித்துவருகின்றன. இந்நிலையில், அதைப் பாதிக்கும் வகையில் இம்மசோதா உள்ளது. இது தனியார் கல்லூரிகளுக்கே சாதகமாகும். தவிர, மருத்துவ ஆணையம் இல்லாமலேயே, நிகர்நிலைப் பல்கலைக்கழகங்களின் கட்டணத்தை நிர்ணயிக்க முடியும். அதை மத்திய அரசு செய்யாதது ஏன்?

புதிய மசோதாவின்படி, மருத்துவ மாணவர்கள் உள்ளுறை மருத்துவர்களாகப் பயிற்சியை முடித்த பிறகு, தேசிய உரிமத் தேர்வு (National Licentiate Test) எழுத வேண்டும். இந்தத் தேர்வில் வெற்றிபெற்றால்தான் மருத்துவராகப் பதிவுசெய்ய முடியும். அந்தத் தேர்வே, முதுநிலை மருத்துவக் கல்வி மாணவர் சேர்க்கைக்கான நுழைவுத் தேர்வாகவும் இருக்கும் என்கிறது இம்மசோதா.

எல்லாவற்றையும் தாண்டி, ஆயுர்வேதம், யுனானி, யோகா, சித்தா, ஓமியோபதி மருத்துவம் பயின்றவர்களும் நவீன மருத்துவத்தின் மருந்துகளைப் பயன்படுத்தலாம் எனவும், அவர்கள் இணைப்புப் படிப்பு மூலம் நவீன மருத்துவத்தைப் படிக்கலாம் எனவும், அம்மருத்துவத்தில் முதுநிலை மருத்துவம் பயில லாம் எனவும் இம்மசோதா கூறுகிறது. இது தேவையற்ற குழப்பங்களை ஏற்படுத்தும்.

மேலும், தனியார் தொழில் நிறுவனங்கள் லாப நோக்கோடு மருத்துவக் கல்லூரிகளைத் தொடங்குவதற்கு உதவும் வகையிலும், வெளிநாட்டு தனியார் மருத்துவப் பல்கலைக்கழகங்களையும் வெளிநாட்டு மருத்துவர்களையும் தங்குதடையின்றி அனுமதிக்கவும் மருத்துவ ஆணையம் வழிவகுக்கும் என்று பரவலாக அச்சம் எழுந்திருக்கிறது. நாடாளுமன்ற நிலைக்குழுவுக்கு இம்மசோதா அனுப்பிவைக்கப்பட்டிருக்கும் நிலையில், இவ்விஷயத்தில் உரிய நியாயம் கிடைக்குமா என்று இந்திய மருத்துவ உலகம் காத்திருக்கிறது!

சென்னை வள்ளுவர் கோட்ட பகுதியில் அமைந்துள்ள ஆர்.எம்.வீரப்பனின் இல்லத்துக்கு நேரில் சென்று சந்தித்தார். ஊடகங்களுக்கு எந்த முன்னறிவிப்பும் இல்லாமல் திடீரென இந்த சந்திப்பு நிகழ்ந்துள்ளது.


முன்னதாக, நேற்று (புதன்கிழமை) திமுக தலைவர் கருணாநிதியை சந்தித்தார். சந்திப்புக்குப் பின் செய்தியாளர்களிடம் அரசியல் பிரவேசத்திற்காக ஆசி பெற்றதாகத் தெரிவித்தார்.

இந்நிலையில், இன்று எம்ஜிஆர் கழகத் தலைவர் ஆர்.எம்.வீரப்பனை நடிகர் ரஜினிகாந்த் சந்தித்துள்ளார். சுமார் 20 நிமிடங்கள் அவரது வீட்டில் இருந்துள்ளார்.

முன்னதாக, ராகவேந்திரா கல்யாண மண்டபத்தில் இருந்த ரஜினிகாந்த் திடீரென ஆர்.எம்.வீரப்பன் வீட்டில்தான் இருக்கிறாரா? என தொலைபேசியில் கேட்டு உறுதி செய்துள்ளார். பின்னர், அடுத்த சில நிமிடங்களில் அவரது வீட்டுக்கு நேராக சென்றுள்ளார். ரஜினியின் எதிர்பாராத இந்த வருகை அங்கிருந்தவர்களை ஆச்சரியப்படுத்தியிருக்கிறது. வீட்டிலிருந்த அனைவரும் நடிகர் ரஜினிகாந்துடன் புகைப்படம் எடுத்துக்கொண்டுள்ளனர். பணியாட்களும் ரஜினியுடன் புகைப்படம் எடுத்துக் கொண்டுள்ளனர்.

ரஜினியின் அரசியல் பேச்சும் ஆர்.எம்.வீரப்பனுடனான தொடர்பும்..

'பாட்ஷா' ரஜினியின் மிகப்பெரிய வெற்றிப் படம். அந்தப் படத்தின் வெற்றி விழாவில் ரஜினிகாந்த், "தமிழகத்தில் வெடிகுண்டு கலாச்சாரம் பரவிக்கிடக்கிறது. அதற்கு தமிழக அரசுதான் பொறுப்பேற்க வேண்டும்" என்று பேசினார்.

அரசியல் ரீதியாக ரஜினி பேசிய அந்த முதல் பேச்சு அரங்கேறியபோது ஆர்.எம்.வீரப்பன் அதே மேடையில் இருந்தார். அவர் அப்படத்தின் தயாரிப்பாளர்.

யாரும் சற்றும் எதிர்பாராத பேச்சு அது. ஆர்.எம்.வீரப்பன் முன்னிலையில் ரஜினிகாந்த் அவ்வாறு பேசியது அந்த காலகட்டத்தில் பெரும் பரபரப்பை ஏற்படுத்தியது. ரஜினிகாந்தின் இந்த பேச்சால் ஆர்.எம்.வீரப்பன் பதவியும் இழந்தார்.


அதன் பின்னர்தான், ஜி.கே.மூப்பனார் தமிழ் மாநில காங்கிரஸ் கட்சியை ஆரம்பித்தபோது ரஜினி நேசக்கரம் நீட்டினார். ஜெயலலிதா மீண்டும் ஆட்சிக்கு வந்தால் தமிழகத்தை யாராலும் காப்பாற்ற முடியாது எனப் பேசியதும் அதே காலகட்டத்தில்தான்.

எம்.ஜி.ஆர் முதல்வராக இருந்த காலகட்டத்தில் அதிமுகவில் ஜெயலலிதாவும் ஆர்.எம்.வீரப்பனும் எதிர் எதிர் அணியாக இருந்தனர் என்பது குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது.

இப்படியாக, ஆர்.எம்.வீரப்பனுக்கும் ரஜினிகாந்துக்கு ஒரு சுவாரஸ்யமான மேடை பந்தம் இருக்கிறது.

நடிகர் ரஜினிகாந்த் தனது ரசிகர்களுடனான சந்திப்பின் நிறைவு நாளான டிசம்பர் 31 2017-ல் தனிக்கட்சி தொடங்கப்போவதாக அறிவித்தார். வரவிருக்கும் சட்டப்பேரவைத் தேர்தலில் 234 தொகுதிகளிலும் தனது கட்சி போட்டியிடும் என்றும் நாடாளுமன்றத் தேர்தல் குறித்து பின்னர் அறிவிக்கப்படும் என்றும் கூறினார்.

ரஜினி அரசியலுக்கு வருவாரா மாட்டாரா என்ற கேலி கிண்டல்கள் ஓய்ந்து 'ஆன்மீக அரசியல்' அறிவிப்பு தொடங்கி அடுத்தடுத்த சூடுபறக்கும் அவரது நடவடிக்கைகளும் தற்போது விவாதப் பொருளாகியுள்ள நிலையில் நேற்று திமுக தலைவர் கருணாநிதியை சந்தித்தார்.

Free run on Lucknow-Agra e-way to end after Jan 15
 

Come January 15, get ready to shell out ₹500 for a Lucknow-Agra Expressway drive. The 302-km expressway, the longest in the country, will have two toll plazas — one each at Lucknow and Agra side. They will be operated by the Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority. The total toll for a travel from Lucknow to Delhi will be ₹915, since a drive between Agra and Greater Noida now costs ₹415. The exact amount, however, will be finalised soon for a drive between Lucknow and Agra, an official said on Wednesday. “We are in the process of finalising the amount that will be charged up to each exit point on the stretch.

53,000 pensioners in U’khand sans Aadhaar to get their money

Dehradun:The New Year has brought good news for more than 53,000 pensioners in Uttarakhand who were not getting their money from the government because they did not have Aadhaar cards. The state government has now agreed to release their pension.

This follows a TOI report published on December 16 which highlighted the plight of these people, many of them too ill, old or infirm to even make it to Aadhaar enrolment centres.

Confirming this on Wednesday, Major (retd) Yogendra Yadav, director of the state social welfare department, said, “It has been decided to release the pension to the eligible disabled, widow and elderly people who do not have an Aadhaar card yet. However, we hope that these people submit their Aadhaar card details by March 31 in accordance with guidelines issued by the Union government.”

According to documents accessed by TOI, out of 59,081 people who draw disability pension in Uttarakhand, 5,424 had not got a single penny since October 2016. Of 4.2 lakh beneficiaries who draw oldage pension, 36,060 elderly people did not receive it for a year due to lack of Aadhaar. Of 1.5 lakh widows eligible for pension, 12,047 stopped getting it as they had not submitted their Aadhaar numbers.

The social welfare department said that the pensions were stopped after the state government made it mandatory to connect all government schemes to Aadhaar last year.

On the other hand, though, several ineligible candidates were availing of the pension benefit in the state. TOI had reported in July, 2016

that over 8,000 people who were dead continued to get pension in Uttarakhand. Yashpal Arya, minister of social welfare department, said that “while the idea behind having Aadhaar numbers was to ascertain that only genuine beneficiaries were getting the money, we will not let bonafide eligible candidates who are currently without documentation suffer.”

Pensioners welcomed the government’s decision. Neero Devi, a 62-year-old widow whose 30-year-old disabled son Raj Kumar could not get his Aadhaar card made despite several attempts — since the machine could not take his fingerprints or iris scan – got a pleasant surprise when officials visited her house in Rajawala village, 20km from Dehradun city on Tuesday to record Kumar’s biometric details at home.

Court sets aside conviction of mentally ill man

Madurai: The Madurai bench of the Madras high court on Wednesday set aside the life term awarded by a lower court to a person for killing two women in 2005. The court observed that the man was of unsound mind at the time of the incident.

The court also ordered the superintendent of police, Madurai central prison, where he has been lodged, to hand him over to the Institute of Mental Health, Kilpauk, Chennai. The court also directed the judicial magistrate of Uthamapalayam in Theni to deal with him further as per provisions of the Metal Health Act, 1987.

On July 1, 2005, a person named Panneerselvam attacked a woman called Indira while she was fetching water from a public tap at Chinnamanoor in Theni. Another woman, Pushpam, who came to her rescue was also attacked. It resulted in the death of the two women.

The fast track court in Periyakulam on September 24, 2007, sentenced Panneerselvam to life for murder and seven years imprisonment for attempt to murder.

Panneerselvam appealed against the sentence in 2016. The division bench of justices R Subbiah and A D Jagadish Chandira delivered judgment on the appeal setting aside the conviction on Wednesday.

The bench said Government Rajaji Hospital psychiatrist Ramanujam, who examined the appellant in 2005 certified that he was not in a fit state of mind and was suffering from schizophrenia. Thereafter, when the appellant was sent to Institute of Mental Health, Kilpauk, in Chennai for further observation, doctor Gopalakrishnan certified that the appellant showed improvement.

“During cross-examination, the doctor said that a person of unsound mind could not know what he is doing. However, on the basis of the opinion of the visitor’s committee which assessed the appellant’s mental status, the doctor said that he was fit to stand trial. On a cumulative reading of the evidence of both the doctors, the court came to the conclusion that at the time of occurrence, the accused (appellant) was not in a sound state of mind. There was no motive for him to cause the death of two persons,” the bench said.

After counting son among his nemeses, Rajini calls on dad Karuna for blessing

Chennai: In an interesting twist, actor Rajinikanth, who played a crucial role in influencing the outcome of the 1996 assembly election that helped the DMK-TMC combine win, called on DMK chief M Karunanidhi at his Gopalapuram residence on Wednesday to seek his blessings for his political sojourn.

The meeting lasted just 15 minutes. But, Rajinikanth came out a happy man. “I told kalaignar (Karunanidhi) that I have entered politics. He smiled and nodded his head as if welcoming me to politics,” Rajnikanth told reporters later. Karunanidhi, who has retired from politics, is rarely seen in public forums. His son and DMK working president M K Stalin now holds the reins of the party.

That battle lines are clearly drawn between DMK and Rajinikanth was evident from the fact that the meeting lacked the usual cordiality extended to a friend or an ally. There was no smile on Stalin’s face as he greeted the actor at the doorstep and there were no other family member, senior leaders or DMK cadres to greet him. Karunanidhi’s personal secretary K Shanmuganathan was the only other senior person present.

Cryptic in his reaction, Stalin told reporters later, “It is Tamil culture to welcome everyone into our house with a smiling face. There is no surprise in Rajinikanth meeting Karunanidhi as both have met in the past too. DMDK chief Vijayakanth too met Karunanidhi and got his blessings after starting a party.” He added, “There is talk that some party or individual is behind the actor starting a party to take on DMK. But history has shown that those who wanted to demolish Dravidian parties have not survived because Tamil Nadu soil belongs to Dravidian parties,” said Stalin.

For his part, Rajinikanth said, “Kalaignar is the seniormost politician in the country. I respect him a lot. We have a very good friendship. I took his blessings as I am entering politics. I am happy meeting him,” he gushed. Their relationship goes back to 1996 assembly and Lok Sabha elections when Rajinikanth’s one-line slogan for the DMK-TMC alliance that even God cannot save TN if Jayalalithaa won proved a turning point.

“I told Karunanidhi that I have entered politics and wanted his blessings. But, I did not speak politics with Thalaivar,” said Rajinikanth.

  Retd transport staff to get dues before Pongal

Chennai: The Madras high court has directed the Tamil Nadu government to clear by January 11, the pending deficit of ₹204 crore towards the statutory dues, payable to over 7,000 retired employees of the state owned transport corporations.

A division bench of Justices S Manikumar and M Govindaraj also made it clear that the amount should be disbursed to the beneficiaries by January 12, at any cost.

The bench passed the interim order despite the submission of the advocate-general that the state is facing a severe financial crisis.

As on June 22, the state government owed ₹614.91 crore to over 7,000 retired employees of its transport undertakings. Also, it owed ₹5,074.75 crore to its existing employees.

The issue was brought to the knowledge of the court by an 82-year-old retired employee, through a post card. Treating the postcard sent by Mayandi Servai as a PIL, the court hauled up the government which finally agreed to settle ₹1,136 crore in dues.

A direction was passed by the court to settle ₹379 crore by December 15. But when the plea was taken up on Wednesday, the government submitted that ₹175 crore has been released out of the promised Rs 379 crore.

Noting that the court has already given enough time to settle the dues, the bench directed the government to settle the deficit ₹204 crore before the Pongal festival.

High court suspends new vakalat rules

Chennai: A division bench of the Madras high court on Wednesday suspended the operation of new rules mandating that advocates affix photo identity cards on vakalats till March 1.

Justices Huluvadi G Ramesh and RMT Teekaa Raman passed the order on a batch of appeals moved by the Madras high court advocates association, Madras Bar Association and others.

Ordering notice to the suo motu impleaded respondent Bar Council of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry and the high court registry returnable by four weeks, the court directed the Registrar-General not to implement the circular dated December 29, 2017 relating to filing of vakalats/memo of appearance.

The issue pertains to an order passed by a single judge of the court in November 2017 mandating advocates filing cases to affix a valid photo identity card, along with details of enrolment number, residential and office address and contact number, on vakalats.

In view of the order, the registry issued a circular notifying that the rules made in the order would come into force from January 2.

Aggrieved over the circular, the associations have now preferred the appeal. Among other things, the circular stipulated that attesting advocates too need to file proof of identity cards, in addition to residential addresses.

When the plea came up for hearing on Wednesday, lawyers representing the associations contended that the circular has caused practical difficulties while filing cases.

They said the circular was without jurisdiction and contrary to law.

Air fares surge as holiday season comes to a close

Chennai: Flying to Chennai from Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Jaipur, Singapore and Dubai has become expensive in the next few days as there is a rush of people returning to the city after short getaways for Christmas and New Year holidays. Delhi-Chennai fare has reached ₹8,000 to ₹10,000 while Mumbai-Chennai has increased from the usual ₹4,000to₹7,000 and above because of the demand. Students returning after vacation too have contributed to thishike. Fares are low from Chennai to these cities as holiday traffic will increase only during Pongal.

The high demand from holidayers and people who are returning after visiting their friends and relatives have put last minute travellers in a fix. An airline official said, “As the seats are full, the fare slab has increased making it expensive for last-minute travellers, mostly businessmen or those travelling for official purposes, because they have to shell out a huge price.”

Basheer Ahmed of Metro Travels said, “Air fares to Chennai from other citiesin the country and international destinations are also high. A large number of people travel to Delhi, Jaipur, Mumbai, Dubai and Singapore for short getaways. This trend has been seen in the last few years. The numbers were high this time because New Year was an extended weekend. This is causing the fare to go up. People wanting to travel to Chennai are finding it difficult because of this hike.”

A good number of students from other cities who study in Chennai will also be traveling in the coming days. This has added to the fare hike. A Chennai-Delhi one-way fare is in the range of ₹8,500 to ₹15,000 while a one-way fare from Mumbai to Chennai is selling in the range of ₹4,600 to ₹12,000. “The fare may go up further in the coming days, especially for travel during the weekend,” Ahmed added.

Pilots abandon cockpit after fight on flight, both grounded

New Delhi: Jet Airways has grounded two of its senior pilots for fighting inside the cockpit of a London-Mumbai flight of January 1. The commander allegedly slapped the lady co-pilot mid-flight after which she left the cockpit in tears.

After persuasion, she went back to the cockpit after sometime, but reportedly came out again in a huff. This time, frightened cabin crew—fearing for everyone’s safety—requested her to go back to the controls and operate the flight to its destination. Luckily, the plane landed safely. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation has suspended the co-pilot’s flying licence and ordered a probe into the episode. The unprecedented cockpit scuffle happened on 9W 119 soon after Jet’s Boeing 777 took off on its 9-hour journey to Mumbai with 324 passengers and 14 crew members at 10am (UK time) on New Year’s day.

Terming it a “serious issue”, DGCA chief B S Bhullar told TOI, “We have ordered a probe and have suspended the privileges of copilot’s licence pending the probe.”

Captain slapped co-pilot leaving her in tears

“Some time after the plane took off, the two pilots, who are known to be very good friends, had a fight. The captain slapped the co-pilot and she left the cockpit in tears. She stood in the galley sobbing. The cabin crew tried to comfort her and send her back to the cockpit, in vain. The captain also kept buzzing (calling from the intercom in the cockpit) the crew, asking them to send the second pilot back,” sources said. When the cabin crew could not do so, the commander reportedly came out of the cockpit —leaving it unmanned in gross violation of safety rules — and persuaded the co-pilot to return with him to the controls.

“At that time, there was no one in the cockpit, while rules say at all times two crew members must be there,” sources said. If one pilot goes out to go to the lavatory or for some other reason, a flight attendant has to be present. That’s because someone should be able to open the cockpit door for the second pilot on return if the sole pilot inside gets incapacitated.

“Soon after the co-pilot returned to the cockpit, the two again had a fight and the co-pilot came out again. This time, the cabin crew was quite afraid of the fight happening in the cockpit as they feared for everyone’s safety. They requested her to go to the cockpit and fly the plane safely to its destination,” said sources.

Realising the fear among the crew, the co-pilot returned to the cockpit and the plane landed safely in Mumbai just after midnight of January 1-2.

Confirming the fight, a Jet Airways spokesman said, “A misunderstanding occurred between the cockpit crew of Jet Airways flight 9W 119, London-Mumbai, of January 1, 2018. However, the same was quickly resolved amicably and the flight with 324 guests, including two infants and 14 crew members, continued its journey to Mumbai, landing safely. “The airline has reported the matter to the DGCA and the concerned crew members have been taken off flying duties pending investigation that has since been initiated. At Jet Airways, safety of guests, crew and assets is of paramount importance and the airline has zero tolerance for any action of its employees that compromises safety.” Terming it a “serious issue”, DGCA chief B S Bhullar told TOI, “We have ordered an investigation and have suspended the privileges of the copilot’s licence pending the probe.”

The captain of 9W 119 is Jet’s senior-most commander of B-777 and an examiner. The second pilot is also a commander. “Jet had terminated the services of this captain in 2009 for forming a pilots’ union.

Following that action, the airline’s pilots had gone on a strike and the airline had to recall its decision. The captain still heads the airline’s pilots union,” said a source.

Deputy Tahsildar arrested

A deputy Tahsildar was arrested on graft charges here by the directorate of vigilance and anti-corruption sleuths in Karimangalam on Wednesday.

The zonal deputy Tahsildar of Karimangalam Karthikeyan had allegedly demanded bribe of Rs. 1,500 for issuing a no objection certificate for name transfer of an existing electricity connection.
According to the complainant Palaniappan of Marulikarankottai in Karimangalam, Karthikeyan had demanded bribe to transfer the connection existing in the name of Palaniappan’s father to Palaniappan’s name. Police verification for passport to go digital

Under the new initiative, the process will be completed in three to four days

Getting passport from Coimbatore Regional Passport office will be easy as the time consuming process of police verification will go digital soon.

With this, police verification which used to take around 20 days or more will be completed in three to four days.

Under the new initiative, each police station is expected to get a tab which will have an application to do the verification digitally.

“The police department has already purchased tabs to be used for the digital verification process. They are expected to reach stations soon. This will ease the police verification process as nothing will have to be done on paper,” said Regional Passport Officer G. Sivakumar, who assumed charge on Monday. Mr. Sivakumar said that he will request West Zone IG to conduct training programme for the police to use to the tab and the application for digital verification.

The application installed in the tabs will have all the forms that were used for police verification in digital format. Once cleared by the police in the field level, they will be cross checked by senior police officers in charge of the process before sending it to the Regional Passport Officer. Officers involved in the process will use digital signatures to clear each step.

“The digital verification was done on a pilot basis at Vepery police station in Chennai. It was a success. We hope that even the concept of tatkal application will become obsolete when digital verification becomes fully functional,” said Mr. Sivakumar. He said that efforts are being made to set up Post Office Passport Seva Kendra in Tirupur and Namakkal districts. In 2017, the Regional Passport Office which covers Coimbatore, the Nilgiris, Tirupur, Erode, Namakkal and Salem districts issued 1,73,147 passports from the total number of 1,82,751 applications received in normal, tatkal and miscellaneous categories.

கரும்பு விவசாயிகளுக்கு நிலுவைத் தொகை வழங்காத கடலூர் நெல்லிக்குப்பம் சர்க்கரை ஆலையை முற்றுகையிட்ட தே.மு.தி.க. பொதுச்செயலாளர் விஜயகாந்தின் மனைவி பிரேமலதா விஜயகாந்த் கைது செய்யப்பட்டார். இதனை கண்டித்து தே.மு.தி.க. தொண்டர்கள் சாலை மறியலில் ஈடுபட்டனர். அதனால் அப்பகுதியில் பெரும் பரபரப்பு ஏற்பட்டது.
கடந்த நான்கு ஆண்டுகளாக, தமிழகம் முழுவதும் உள்ள கரும்பு விவசாயிகளுக்கு 42 சர்க்கரை ஆலைகள் சுமார் 1600 கோடி ரூபாய் நிலுவைத் தொகை பாக்கி வைத்துள்ளது. இதனை கண்டித்து தே.மு.தி.க. அந்தந்தப் பகுதிகளில் உள்ள சர்க்கரை ஆலைகளை முற்றுகையிட்டு ஆர்பாட்டம் செய்தனர். கடலூர் மாவட்டம் நெல்லிக்குப்பம் இ.ஐ.டி. பாரி சர்க்கரை ஆலையை பிரேமலதா விஜயகாந்த் முற்றுகையிட்டு ஆர்ப்பாட்டம் செய்தார். அப்போது அவர், " இ.ஐ.டி. பாரி சர்க்கரை ஆலை நிர்வாகம் மட்டும் 170 கோடி ரூபாய் பாக்கி வைத்துள்ளது. அதை உடனடியாக விவசாயிகளுக்கு வழங்க வேண்டும். அத்தோடு, விவசாயிகள் கொண்டுசெல்லும் கரும்புக்குச் சரியான எடையில்லை. அதனால் சர்க்கரை ஆலையில் செயல்படும் எடைமேடையை அரசே ஏற்று நடத்த வேண்டும். கரும்புக் காப்பீட்டு தொகையை விரைந்து வழங்க வேண்டும்" என்றார்.
பின்னர், மேடையைவிட்டு இறங்கிய பிரேமலதா விஜயகாந் திடீரென்று சர்க்கரை ஆலையை முற்றுகையிட முயன்றார். அவரை தடுத்து நிறுத்திய காவல்துறையினர், தடையை மீறி சென்றால் கைது செய்வோம் என்று எச்சரித்தனர். இதனால், இருவருக்கும் இடையே பெரும் வாக்குவாதம் ஏற்பட்டது. இதனை கண்டித்து பிரேமலதா விஜயகாந்த் தனது தொண்டர்களுடன் சாலையில் அமர்ந்து போராட்டத்தில் ஈடுபட்டார். அதனால், போலீஸார் பிரேமலதா விஜயகாந்த் உட்பட நூற்றுக்கணக்கான தே.மு.தி.க. தொண்டர்களை கைது செய்தனர். இதனால் அப்பகுதியில் பெரும் பரபரப்பு ஏற்பட்டது.
