நெஸ்லே சந்தைப்படுத்தியுள்ள ஒன்பது வகை மேகி உணவுப் பொருள்கள் "பாதுகாப்பற்றவை, உடலுக்கு ஊறு விளைவிப்பவை' என இந்திய உணவுப் பாதுகாப்பு மற்றும் தர நிர்ணய ஆணையம் தனது ஆய்வுகளுக்குப் பிறகு ஜூன் 5-இல் அறிவித்திருக்கிறது. மேலும், கடந்த ஆண்டு ஜூலை மாதம் "மேகி ஓட்ஸ் மசாலா நூடுல்ஸ்' என்ற புதிய உணவுப் பொருளின் விற்பனைக்கு அனுமதி கோரி விண்ணப்பித்திருந்த நெஸ்லே, அனுமதி கிடைக்கும் முன்பாகவே அதைச் சந்தைப்படுத்தியிருப்பது சட்டத்தை மீறிய, தண்டனைக்குரிய செயல் என்றும் தெரிவித்திருக்கிறது.
1982 முதலாகவே சுமார் 32 ஆண்டுகளாக நெஸ்லே நிறுவனத்தின் "2 நிமிட நூடுல்ஸ்' இந்தியாவில் சந்தையில் இருந்தும்கூட, இதுநாள் வரை இந்த உணவுப் பொருளின் பாதுகாப்புத் தன்மை குறித்து மாதிரி ஆய்வுகள் நடத்த வேண்டும் என்று தோன்றவே இல்லை என்பது ஆச்சரியமும், வேதனையும் தருவதாக உள்ளது.
கடந்த 5 ஆண்டுகளாகவே, பதப்படுத்தப்பட்ட உணவின் கேடுகள் குறித்த விழிப்புணர்வுக்கு ஒரு சில பத்திரிகைகளும், ஊடகங்களும் மேலதிகமான கவனம் தந்து வருவதோடு, இந்தப் பொருள்களின் பாதுகாப்பு குறித்துத் தனியார் அமைப்புகள் நடத்திய ஆய்வு முடிவுகளையும் வெளியிட்டு, எச்சரிக்கவும் செய்தன.
இந்தியாவில் சந்தைப்படுத்தப்படும் மென்பானங்கள், பாக்கெட்டுகளில் அடைக்கப்பட்ட உணவுகள், இறக்குமதி செய்யப்படும் பழ வகைகள் என பலவற்றைக் குறித்தும் எச்சரிக்கை செய்யும் கட்டுரைகள், ஊடக நிகழ்வுகள் இடம்பெறவும் செய்தன.

மற்ற நிறுவன நூடுல்ஸ் குறித்து மாதிரி ஆய்வுகள் நடத்தும் முயற்சிகளில்கூட மற்ற மாநிலங்கள் இறங்கவில்லை. அனைத்து நிறுவனங்களின் நூடுல்ஸ் மசாலாக்கள் அனைத்தும் ஆய்வுக்கு உள்படுத்தப்பட வேண்டும்.
எத்தனை கோடி ரூபாய் செலவழித்தாலும் ஏற்படுத்த முடியாத உணவுப் பாதுகாப்பு விழிப்புணர்வை இரண்டே நாளில் ஏற்படுத்திவிட்டது நெஸ்லே தயாரிப்பான 2 நிமிட நூடுல்ஸ். ஒவ்வொரு வீட்டிலும் இது குறித்த பேச்சும், அச்சம் கலந்த விவாதமும் கடந்த இரண்டு நாள்களாக நடந்து கொண்டிருக்கின்றன.

சென்னை பெருநகரில் ஆவின் பால் குறைந்த விலையில் பெறுகின்ற வகையில் மாதாந்திர பால் அட்டைகள் வழங்கப்பட்டு வருகின்றன. இந்த அட்டைகள் 16 ஆவின் வட்டார அலுவலகங்கள், 49 பால் நுகர்வோர் கூட்டுறவு சங்கங்கள் மூலம் வழங்கப்பட்டு வருகின்றன. சென்னை பெருநகரில் மாதாந்திர பால் அட்டைகள் மூலம் நாளொன்றுக்கு 7.15 லட்சம் லிட்டர் பால் வழங்கப்படுகிறது.
புதிய மாதாந்திர பால் அட்டைகளைப் பெற வழிமுறைகள் எளிதாக்கப்பட்டுள்ளன. புதிய ஆவின் பால் அட்டைகள் பெற விரும்பும் நுகர்வோர்கள், வட்டார அலுவலகங்கள், பால் நுகர்வோர் கூட்டுறவு சங்கங்களைத் தொடர்பு கொண்டு அதற்குரிய விண்ணப்பங்களைப் பூர்த்தி செய்து அளிக்க வேண்டும். விண்ணப்பத்துடன் இருப்பிட அல்லது அடையாள சான்றிதழ்களின் நகல்களை இணைக்க வேண்டும்.

Chaos in medical PG counselling, government scraps process

CHENNAI: The state health department has scrapped the postgraduate medical counselling process that was held over the past three days, following allegations of discrepancies and lack of transparency.

A fresh phase of counselling will be held over the weekend.

More than 6,000 MBBS graduates aspiring to pursue a PG degree were vying for 800 seats available in the third phase of counselling held over three days since June 2.

Out of the total 1,200 PG seats available, Tamil Nadu was left with 600 seats after surrendering the other half to the All India Quota, along with the 100 seats surrendered by private medical colleges and 100 All India quota seats that fell into the common pool.

More than 12,000 candidates had appeared for the entrance out of which 6,000 were eligible to attend counselling.

Several candidates alleged lack of transparency. "Vacancies in different specialities were not revealed until the last minute. When the seats were finally displayed, it was allotted to candidates who were not eligible," said an applicant.

The doctor explained that MD seats in dermatology were displayed on the second day of counselling, and one of the seats was given to an "ineligible" candidate who was related to a politician.

"Limited seats that were available in some specialities were casually allotted to candidates in the same community while the deserving ones were skipped," he said.

Another candidate alleged that the coordinators at the venue did not give satisfactory replies when asked about the discrepancies and the students were asked to leave the premises. "We had to approach the health secretary," he said.

Extending support to the candidates, Doctors' Association for Social Equality general secretary Dr G R Ravindranath said the state government should order an investigation into the irregularities that took place in the counselling.

A senior health official said the counselling process was held with transparency and since candidates expressed their complaints, the directorate of medical education has decided to conduct fresh counselling.

NTR health university to join hands with Harvard Medical School for setting up laboratory

NTR University of Health Sciences (NTRUHS) will soon become one of the few institutions in the country to have a Human Leukocyte Antigen (HLA) typing and cross-matching laboratory. Accordingly, the Harvard Medical School (HMS) will provide technical know-how for the lab to be set up by NTRUHS at an estimated cost of Rs. 2 crore to Rs. 3 crore.

The laboratory will come in handy for the implementation of the Cadaver Transplant Programme (CTP), also called ‘Jeevandan’, under which tissue-typing is done to ensure compatibility of organs.

Besides, it can generate income for the government by rendering HLA typing and cross-matching services to the needy beyond the ambit of the CTP.

NTRUHS Vice-Chancellor and Chairman of the Appropriate Authority for Cadaver Transplantation (Andhra Pradesh) T. Ravi Raju during his recent visit to the US met Ajay K. Singh, Associate Dean for Global Education at HMS, who suggested a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for taking the project forward.

Dr. Ravi Raju conveyed the same to Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu through the top brass of Department of Health, Medical and Family Welfare and got a positive response but it is yet to reach the stage of signing MoU.

“The proposed laboratory will save precious time while ascertaining the types of organs of donors and recipients,” Dr. Raju said. He also expressed hope that the government would seize the opportunity at the earliest.

According to NTRUHS Director (R&D) G. Krishna Murthy, the lab will reduce the State’s dependence on the NIMS.

Plus Two toppers file case against MBBS admission norms

A group of 16 students who cleared their Plus Two examinations this year have filed a petition in the Madras High Court Bench here challenging the State Government’s decision to permit students who cleared the examinations in the previous years to compete with them for admission into medical colleges this year.

The petitioners claimed that such permission would only benefit students who passed out last year since the number of centum scorers in science subjects was high in 2014. When the matter came up before Justice S. Vaidyanathan on Friday, he directed the Registry to club the petition along with two similar cases pending in the principal seat of the High Court in Chennai.

Petitioners’ counsel Isaac Mohanlal pointed out that 2,710 students had scored centum in physics in 2014 as against just 214 students this year. Similarly, the number of centum scorers in chemistry and biology was 1,693 and 652 respectively in 2014 but the corresponding figure for this year was only 1,049 and 387.

“Many students were able to score high marks last year due to relatively easy question papers set during that year. It was not the case this year. Last year many students could not gain admission in MBBS course since the number of centum scorers was very high. Those students had to be content with studying dental courses in various colleges in the State.

Jayalalithaa declares assets worth Rs. 117 crore

Every time Chief Minister Jayalalithaa declares her wealth, it doubles.

As on Friday, the AIADMK supremo has declared assets worth Rs 117.13 crore. She has movable assets worth Rs. 45.04 crore and immovable assets worth Rs.72.09 crore.

When she filed the affidavit in Srirangam for the 2011 Assembly elections, she declared assets worth Rs 51.40 crore, against Rs 24.7 crore in 2006.

In the affidavit she furnished before the Returning Officer on Friday along with the nomination papers to contest the R.K. Nagar by-elections, Ms. Jayalalithaa stated that her deposits amounted to Rs. 9.80 crore. She had invested Rs 31.68 crore in five firms, including Kodand Estate, as a partner.

The current market value of residential building ‘Veda Nilayam’, 81, Poes Garden in S.No1567 of Teynampet Village, measuring an area of 10 grounds equalling 24,000 sqft with a built-up area of 21,662 sq ft, is Rs.43.96 crore. The property was purchased by Ms. Jayalalithaa and her mother on July 15, 1967 at a cost of Rs. 1.32 lakh. She owns commercial buildings in four places including Poes Garden in Chennai and Sri Nagar Colony, Hyderabad. The current market value of Ms. Jayalalithaa’s agricultural land measuring 14.5 acres in Jeedimetla Village in Ranga Reddy District in Hyderabad, Telangana, is Rs. 14.44 crore.

Nine vehicles, including two Toyota Prado SUVs, a 1980 model Ambassador car and 1990 model Contessa have a current market value of Rs.42.25 lakh.

Gold articles weighing 21280.300 grams seized by the police were lying with the Treasury, Karnataka Government (in the DA case).

Therefore the value could not be ascertained, she said.

In 2013-2014, the total income shown as per the income tax returns filed by her is Rs. 33.32 lakh.

Ms. Jayalalithaa has no dependents.

டில்லி மெட்ரோ முதன் முதலாக டிரைவர் இல்லாத ரயிலை அறிமுகப்படுத்துகிறது

புதுடில்லி: டில்லி மெட்ரோ ரயில் சேவை முதன் முதலாக டிரைவர் இல்லாத ரயிலை அறிமுகம் செய்கிறது.

தென்கொரியாவின் சாங்வான் நகரில், அந்நாட்டு தொழில் நுட்பத்தில் வடிவமைக்கப்படும், டிரைவர் இல்லாமல் ஓடக்கூடிய இந்த ரயில், டில்லி மெட்ரோ ரயில் கட்டுப்பாட்டு மையங்கள் மூலமாக இயக்கப்படும்.

இந்த ரயில், டில்லியில் மஜ்லிஷ் பூங்கா-ஷிவ் விஹார் மார்க்கத்தில் 59 கி.மீ., தூரமும், ஜனக்பூரி மேற்கு-பொட்டானிக்கல் கார்டன் மார்க்கத்தில் 38 கி.மீ., தூரமும் தினமும் பயணிகளை சுமந்து செல்ல காத்திருக்கிறது. இதில் டிரைவருக்கு என்று தனியாக கேபின் இல்லை என்பதால் வழக்கமாக டிரைவரால் இயக்கப்படும் ரயிலை விட கூடுதலாக 240 பேர் பயணம் செய்ய முடியும். அதாவது ஒரே நேரத்தில் 2,280 பேர் பயணிக்க முடியும்.

பாதுகாப்புக்காக, ரயிலின் உட்புறமும், வெளிப்புறமும் சி.சி.டி.வி கேமராக்கள் அமைக்கப்பட்டு, மெட்ரோ ரயிலின் கட்டுப்பாட்டு மையங்கள் மூலம் கண்காணிக்கப்படும்.இந்த ரயிலுக்குத் தேவையான ரயில் பெட்டிகள் தென் கொரியாவிலும், இந்தியாவில் பெங்களூருவில் உள்ள பி.இ.எம்.எல் நிறுவனத்திலும் வடிவமைக்கப்படும் எனவும், இந்த ரயில் சேவை 2016 ல் நடைமுறைக்கு வரும் என்றும் மெட்ரோ ரயில் அதிகாரி ஒருவர் தெரிவித்தார்.
